Split a Table of Contents on two pages

Hi everyone!
I would like to split a Table of Contents on two pages after my own wishes. Is it possible? I know that the TOC can be styled but make it split over 2 pages seems impossible. Does anyone have an idea? Thank you for any input!!!

Thanks for the feedback.
It's not my idea.
It's a variant of what Apple explains in the technote:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2127
Symptoms
+When you create a document in Pages, you can add page numbers to your pages, and even choose a numbering format (such as 1, 2, 3; A, B, C; or I, II, III). If you create a table of contents (TOC) for your document, the TOC will always display page numbers as Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3), even if you selected a different format for your page numbers (such as if you chose the letter scheme A, B, C).+
+If your page numbers are not Arabic numerals, your document may be difficult to navigate since the TOC and page numbers won't match. As a general rule, you should use Arabic numerals to number your pages if you plan on including a TOC so that the TOC will reference page numbers correctly.+
Resolution
+If you've used a different numbering format, you can edit your TOC using this workaround:+
_+Export your document as an RTF (Rich Text Format) document (from the File menu, choose Export, then select the RTF radio button in the resulting dialog).+_
_+Open the RTF in Pages (from the File menu, choose Open or drag the RTF file onto the Pages icon in the Dock).+_
_+Manually change the numbers in the Table of Contents section so that they match your page number scheme.+_
_+Please note that some of your formatting may change during this process and may need to be corrected.+_

  • Same table content in two page...

Hi frends in Adobe forms i have two body page..i want to display same table in two page....while iam trying this issue...
i got table content displayed in one page but in the second page table content is not displaying..i think i have some problem in binding...help me out......

    Hi Dinesh,
If u r binding the data to the table in the first page, u can not bind that data again to the other table. Because u can bind the data only once. Next time it ll be empty.
For this u should hv two table in ur context.. eg: *table1* (1:n)  and *table2* (1:n) with same attributes.
Then in the code *fetch the data -> set attributes -> bind with table1 node*..
    then, set_attrubutes for table2 -> bind table2

  • Problem with automatic table of contents in latest Pages 5.1

So here's the deal. I'm using "Bottom text" to automaticly put page numbers on each new page, But I don't want page number on the cover (page 1) or on the introduction page (p2), so I write something else in the bottom text there, and them simply click "start new bottom text here" on page nr 3 (the page where I have the table of contents). This way I get page numbers on all future pages but no on the two previous ones, but the problem then is that the headlines from earlier (the introduction) is left out from automatic table of contents. I tried experimenting, and if i chose "start new bottom text" on page 4 (the one after table of contents) all headlines from there on out disappears from table of contents. How do I fix this? The thesis I'm writing is going to be very long, and I really don't wanna have to do table of contents manually. I also can't have page numbers on the introduction page as this is a major exam thesis and it needs to look very professional and excellent, because my whole grade is depending on it.

An interesting bug, if that is what it is.
It could be you have simply chosen a Section T.O.C. which only does a T.O.C. for the section it is in.
Try adding the initial unnumbered pages as manual text before the T.O.C. starts.

  • How do I create a table of content in a Pages Template (lay-out) document?

    Dear all,
I recently started designing a brochure in Pages, using a lay-out document. The document counts over 100 pages. Now I need to make a table of contents and I just don´t get how to do this...
Any help is more then welcome!
    With warm regards,
    Nina

That sounds more like a book than a "brochure".
You can not make a TOC in Layout mode. The TOC only scans the styled text in the default text area (between the margins) of Word Processing documents and ignores everything else.

  • Why won't table of contents work in Pages

I am creating a songbook with one song on each page.  I have about 65 pages.  I have applied the style "Heading 2" to all song titles at the top of each page.  I went into the TOC tab of the Inspector and where it says "select paragraph styles whose text will appear in the table of contents", I selected "Heading 2" and clicked the box to the right of it so page numbers show up.  I then went to the Insert menu and selected Table Of Contents (a TOC option doesn't show up when I click Sections in the toolbar).  Pages inserted a page in which only one entry shows up on the TOC.  I double checked that all of my page titles were the Heading 2 format and they are.
Why is Pages not making the TOC properly?

    A Textbox is an object.
A Shape is an object (it can contain text as well as images).
    A Table is an object.
    A Chart is an object
The T.O.C. will not scan any of these.
Why are you using tables for a set of songs? Just make the layout multiple columns if that is what you want and then the text can be scanned.

  • Pdf with table of contents from a Pages file

I discovered in a pdf file sent to me that it has a table of contents in the sidebar where thumbnails, and annotations also reside.
When I create a pdf from my pages document this is not available.
In the table of contents sidebar are the words 'No Sections'. How do I create sections for every para styled as a heading so that they show in the table of contents sidebar of the pdf file.
I have been using outline to navigate in the pages file but the pdf would be simpler for me to do under meeting conditions.
    PAM

Your son was probably referring to *Adobe Acrobat Pro*. But I can't see how that would help with the sidebar automatically.
In *Acrobat Pro* it would be a matter of selecting each head to make a bookmark from that and then resave the .pdf file with the bookmarks sidebar showing upon opening.
You can also add and edit bookmarks in Preview.
    +Preview > Menu > Bookmarks > Add Bookmark/Edit Bookmarks…+
I did a further experiment with a Pages document with bookmarks to see if that created the sidebar with bookmarks, but it didn't work.
There are differences in the ways Preview and Acrobat Reader display .pdfs even with what seem to be straight forward settings. I can never depend on a uniform display.
Particularly where PC users are involved.
    Peter
btw When you viewed your Pages document with your TOC did you set the Preview sidebar to show "Table of Contents" in the little icons at the foot of the Preview sidebar.

  • How do I create multiple TOC's (Tables of Contents) in one Pages document?

I'd like to have multiple TOC's (Tables of Contents) in one document. This is useful for me because I'd like to have a TOC for the regular chapters, then a TOC for the procedures, then a TOC for the tables in the document (it's a tech manual that I am writing). How can I do this? Thanks for any help you can render, and have a nice day!

If you haven't used a paragraph style it can't create a TOC but you get the blue box with the message.
    Paragraph used.
It has nothing to do if there is one main TOC or several smaller TOC to do.
It isn't true that you can only have one TOC in a document. Use styles for your titles and headings. I do and it works fine without section breaks.
You also need to tick which tile and heading you want in the TOCs in the Document Inspector > TOC
    Did that.
Thanks to Yvan's quoting from the User Guide, I see where it says each TOC only indexes the material up until the next TOC. Since I had them follow each other, that is why they had no content.
Still it defeats the objective of indexing different material throughout the document if all you get is what is between the TOCs.

  • How do I locate the page I am viewing in the Table of Contents?

Is there a way to open the table of contents to the page that I am already viewing?
If I have searched a document, and I am at some random page, how do I find out where I am in the table of contents?  For example, in the eclipse help system and IBM's "info centers" there is a button that opens the table of contents to the nearest page to where I am so that I can guage the general intent of the pages I am reading, find related content or quickly assess that this is not what I'm looking for.
I think the TOC is really a collection of "bookmarks" in a PDF file and not a true TOC, but I would assume that if they are sequential there would be a function to open the nearest one.  Can someone tell me if that exists?
    Thanks
    Doug

If you are running Firefox 4 or higher on the "old" computer, then:
    (1) Open Help > Troubleshooting Information
    (2) Click the "Open Containing Folder" button next to "Profile Directory"
    (3) Copy everything to a safe place (please note that the copy of your profile does contain your browsing history and saved passwords, so best not to store in on media that you insert into public PCs)
You can copy the bookmarkbackups folder to a USB flash drive, then on your new computer, import your bookmarks from there. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20and%20restoring%20bookmarks Backing up and restoring bookmarks | How to | Firefox Help].
(To clone your entire setup, after you install Firefox on the new PC, you can close it and replace the contents of the new profile folder with the contents you saved from the old computer. That doesn't always work, though.)

  • Creating button that will take you to table of contents pages

I'm using CS4 and have created a 30 page document with a table of contents (TOC) on page 2. On my master page I have previous and next page buttons that have rollover states. These work.
I want a button in the middle that will take you to the TOC page.
I have tried creating a text anchor on page 2 and setting the action of my button to go to anchor but in the button window the text anchors area is grayed out and has 'none' in it.
I also tried to have a button with a rollover state just for show (no action assigned) and putting an invisible hyperlink on top of the button. The link goes to page 2. This only works on the areas where my hyperlink does not overlap the button.
Is there a way around this?

    Hi Sparkgapper,
Is this a Pages question? YOu are in the Numbers for Mac forum.
From your profile, is this an iWork '09 question?

  • Add pages before the table of content into the table of content

    Hey,
I was wondering if someone can help me. I'm writing my dissertation and I have to include an abstract and acknowledgments before the table of content ( written on pages 1 and 2). How can I get pages to include these pages within the table of contents written on page 3?
    Thanks
    Ordidge

You can't get it in the TOC automatically. You can do it manually but you'll loose the updating feature of the TOC so do it when you are certain you are finished with the document.
What you do is copy the whole TOC and paste it in Textedit. Here you can do all the changes you want. Copy it again and paste it back in the Pages document.

  • How can we print the page numbers for TABLE OF CONTENTS form When its excluded from the form page count ?

    Hi Experts,
We have TABLE OF CONTENTS followed by 100 forms with totally 215 pages.
We have checked in the Exclude from form page count option for TABLE OF CONTENTS form in Group level.
The forms followed by TABLE OF CONTENTS form all are using FORMSETPAGENUM rule in footer.
the very first form followed by TABLE OF CONTENTS form the page number starts at 1 of 215 and the last form ends at 215 of 215.
Now i want to print the Page number for TABLE OF CONTENTS form alone.
How can we do that ?  Any thoughts ?
    Regards,
    RAMAN C

    Hi Raman,
I guess, you have included 'Exclude Page Count' option in Table Of Content (TOC) form.
There is a limitation in studio. The page number functions (FORM PAGE NUM OF/ FORMSET PAGE NUM OF) will be ineffective when we select the 'Exclude Page Count' option in TOC form. Hence, you was not able to print the Form Page Count in TOC form.
The only way to print page count is to deselect 'Exclude Page Count' option. Then you can normally print the TOC Page Count in TOC form. However, thiS TOC page count will add to the Total formset Page Count. The Formset Page Count can be controlled through Postransdal using the script [FORMSET PAGE NUM = TotalPages() - 1]

  • Creating a Table of Content (toc)

    Hi
I am very new with Output designer, so please dont mind if it is a silly question.
I have to create a PDF report which has around 15-20 sections. I need a toc (table of content) at first page and at the specified position with page number for each section.
All the sections has some header and detail subforms, so pagenumber is not known at the begining for each sections. I am using xml file as the data file.
So can i use JFPREAMBLE to get the page number for different subforms, and write that on to the toc subform,
i did lot of mind storming but not able to resolve my problem, please help.
    thanks and regards

    Hello,
I was able to create a TOC for a recent customer in the UK.
Took a lot of work, but it worked.
You will have to create a TDF to get the data that you require to be on the TOC, but this is quite easy. The best way is to get the TDF to output the result as a seperate file, and then get the orginal data to call the file as the first thing that you do by using the ^file command
If you would like an example please drop me a line at [email protected]

  • How do I separate the pages in a two-page spread?

I am using an InDesign document I created a couple of years ago as a template to build a similar 50 page 11x17 (8.5x11 folded) document.
While I like working with the two-page spread on my big display, I don't have a printer that prints 11x17, so I want to be able to separate the pages from each other once in  awhile to print it out, but need to know that I can easily return it to the spread state, both for while I continue to work on the doc and for the printer I'll be turning this over to upon completion.
I'm guessing there's a really easy way to do this, but I haven't been able to find it.
    Thank you.

    Some clarification needed:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
While I like working with the two-page spread on my big display, I don't have a printer that prints 11x17, so I want to be able to separate the pages ...
This actually suggests that you do NOT have a double-page spread (which in InDesign consists of two separate pages, which only happen to be viewed side by side) but instead have a single large double-sized page, on which you are drawing the contents of two pages.
If so, that's a huge problem because you created your document the wrong way ... And it's not easily fixed either.
If not, then it would seem you are printing full spreads by default -- it's a checkbox in the print dialog. Simply uncheck it, and you can print one page at a time.

  • Finished script: Use grep find/change to fill in a supplied table of contents

This script is now complete, and has been the subject of most of my previous posts. Just in case anyone wanted to know what the finished script ended as, here it is.
Thanks so much to all. A lot of really helpful folks on this board are very responsible for the success of this task. This script is to be one of hopefully many in the creation of our records. But it's a huge leap forward. Thanks again to everyone that helped.
    Cheers,
    ~Nate
    Task:
Automatically find town names in listings, and fill in table of contents template on page 2 accordingly.
Example of page 2 toc, initially:
Example of a page of content. The town names are what need to be referenced on the TOC:
Example of page 2 toc once script is finished:
Because of the need to include the transaction dates on the TOC (comes as a provided, tagged-text file), a simple Indesign-generated TOC can't be used alone.
This script uses an Indesign-generated TOC that's on a master page called "T-tocGen" ... It then uses grep search and replaces to grab the needed information, and insert it into the page 2 TOC.
The script will update a generated TOC and then search for an instance of a page number, and town name. The generated toc lists all included towns in the following format:
    (line start)## tab townName(line end)
In Grep, this would be (please note, extra \ for \d and \t ... javascript needs that for some reason):
    ^\\d+\\t(.*)$
After the script gets the info it needs from a found instance of the above, it replaces that line with "---", to prevent that line from being picked up once again.
The script with then place the needed page number in it's rightful place on page 2, replacing the XX.
A while loop is used to repeat the above process until there are no longer any instances of "^\\d+\\t(.*)$" present.
Not every town runs every issue, so once the script is done, it removes all remaining instance of "XX" on the page 2 TOC.
    FINAL CODE:
    TOC replace
This script will use grep find/change methods to apply page numbers in
tocGen to the XX's on page2TOC.
// define the text frame of generated TOC
        var tocGenFrame  = document.masterSpreads.item("T-tocGen").pages.item(0).textFrames.item(0);

You are correct but the problem is there are three rows, One row is 100% black, the second is 60% black and the third is 40% black. I want to change the black to blue, the 60% black to an orange and the 40% black to a light shaded blue. In the find/change option you can select the tint you want to find and replace but yea.. does work on table cells.. oddly enough.
