Split and delete unwanted event clips

Just got FCX - haven't worked with FCP since v5.5 a number of years ago.  Learning.
I have some footage (event clip) that is about an hour long and I want to delete about half of the clip (forever - it's old footage and nothing is on it).  I can't see how to split an event clip and delete the portion of the original file that I no longer want. I can reject the offending part of the clip but the source file remains.  If I try and move the rejected part of the file to the trash it moves the whole source file and I lose everything.
iMovie let me do this (it would split the event clip itself).
How do I do it on FCX ?  I will reclamin 15+ GB if I can manage this.
Thanks

deleting parts of media is a standard practise.
Its called consolidating,
say you have imported many files each taking up a lot of your fast editing drive from your camera archives/tapes. (You do have original backups of your media don't you.)
You have used only a few seconds of each clip ( each of which may run to many tens of minutes)
On a "real" editing system you can copy just the used media, not the WHOLE clip (plus definable handles), re-link your timeline to these then delete the unused media. (Not your original media!)
We need a real consolidate in FCPx  ( a decompose batch import would be nice too!)

  • Editing dv clips and deleting unwanted footage?

I just started using imovie and have a question on the editing functions. After I import video from my VCR, I want to chop the clips up. I have played with the imovie editing functions, but everything seems to only HIDE the footage that I chop, and not actually DELETE it. This is rather frustrating for me, since my completed movie will include hundreds of clips and if I can't delete my unwanted footage, not only will it waste tons of memory, but editing will be a nightmare.
Basically what I'm looking to do is import hundreds of clips and edit each one seperately before I start compiling and arranging. When I trim or delete something, I want it to be gone for good.
Is this possible to do in imovie? If not, can someone recommend an economic friendly software that will do this.

I have the same problem. How do I delete all the scrap footage that I no longer want? - permanently? I have edited a 40 minute video down to 3.5 minutes, deleted the scrapped clips and emptied the trash, but my file size is still huge and is eating up my hard drive space. I even tried "Save As..." and still cannot rid the project of many gigabytes of unwanted scrap footage.
I have used iMovie for quite some time. Older versions of iMovie were not like this.
The only option I can find is to export only the selected clips to a single .DV file, trash the entire original iMovie project, and then re-import the saved .DV clips to a new project. What a pain in the @$$. I am not happy... :-|

  • Archive and delete sap event management objects

Team, I need to configure the archiving objects and residence time to Archive and delete EM objects. there are three steps of configuration, and I have never done this before.
Can any one of you help me in setting up this config and the programs that need to run to archive and delete these objects.
I would really appreciate you help and quick response on this.
    Define Archiving-Object-Specific Customizing
Define Residence Times for Archiving or Deleting
Define Settings for Deleting Document Flow
    Thank you!!!

    Hello Steffen,
I was told that it would be possible to display archived and deleted event handlers using BAPI /SAPTRX/BAPI_EH_GET_DATA_GEN. I tested it, but could not verify this statement. SAP Help reads:
"The archiving object /SAPTRX/A0 only supports a technical view in the Archive Explorer of the Archive Information System. This view is similar to the display in transaction SE16."
It would be great if you could help clarify this. Thank you!
    Best regards,

  • TS4002 When I use my iphone to check my email, and delete unwanted email, it still shows up on my computer~ and vice versa. How do I get the doubling up to stop??

It used to work just fine, but now whenever I receive email if I check it from my phone and delete it, it will still be on my computer. If I check it on my computer, when I get on my phone, it's still there. I'm having to go through email and delete it all, on both devices, rather than just on one.
How can I make it so that when an email is deleted from one device, it will also be deleted from the other? I don't know what I did to make it stop doing this, and I've tried several things, on both my phone and my mac, but it's about to drive me crazy!
Thanks for any help you can give!

But the problem is, that it Did used to do this. It synced for a year and a half and now only in the past four months has it not synced...
    Any thoughts?

  • Duplicating and deleting calendar events

When I synced my iPod Touch through iTunes, one event in iCal on my Mac was duplicated on both the Mac and iPod. I manually deleted one of the duplicated events. The next time I synced, the event was deleted altogether! How can I avoid having events be deleted automatically?

    Greetings,
That behavior suggests that the events were not actually duplicated. Instead you were seeing 2 visual representations of the same real event. A ghost of sorts.
First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • Replies to invites and deleting calendar events

This is for Apple and whoever else wants to chime in:
I would like Apple to provide the functionality for me to stop sending replies that accept, decline etc... invites. After the nightmare I went through with the mobile me upgrade (which sent over 1000 emails to people for old invitations when Apple helped me fix it) - I no longer can use ical reply checker. I own my calendar and do not think the software should be deciding without my knowledge and without keeping a copy - who to send emails to.
Also - I want to be able to delete invites off my calendar that I did not create without having the creator send me an update.
Please address these issues - the calendar belongs to me and this is functionality I should have control over. People have been complaining about this for years
    Thank you -

  • How can I see the contents of the "Other" folder and delete unwanted files?

    Cleaning up "Other" folder

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Slow Thunderbird in accessing ISP and deleting unwanted Email's

When I try to download Email, most of the time it's extremely slow. Usually I need to check the Email more than once to get it all downloaded. When I try to delete some Email's, the process is extremely slow. This is also true when I try to move an Email from one location to another.

Have you compacted your folders lately?
Are you deleting from the server as well, or is the inbox full?
Make room, move to local folders.

  • Splitting an iMovie '09 event in Event Library

I guess this was eventually bound to happen--I imported a movie but forgot to create a new event and appended it another event. Is there a way to either split and create a new Event (not project) or better yet, like in Project, duplicate it, then I can split and delete the first half on one and the second half on another?
(On latter idea I was thinking I could just duplicated the iMovie Events folder, give it another name and re-open iMovie--would that work?)

In iMovie, select the first clip that would go in the second event.

  • Once I have published & burnt my DVD can I delete the events in imovie?

    Hi Guys & Gals,
I have just published and burnt my holiday movie through idvd and saved it to my external hard drive. Can I now go into Imovie and delete the events and projects that are in there as I wish to free up space?....
WIll the movie as a whole be saved on my external drive or does it still require the clips from imovie?... This is obviously presuming that I will no be making any further edits on this movie...
    Any help gratefully received....

ah... My "DVD" is three seperate projects so I guess I can't save the "DVD" as a whole but can save the three projects as seperate quicktime movies which means I can then delete the events and projects from Imovie?...

  • How to delete all events from iCal?

Is it possible to select and delete all events from iCal? Or is it simpler to delete the calendar itself? Thanks!

    Sorted now!
To clarify for people like me: type "." in the search bar
Then click on the first item in the results pane
Go to the other end of the list, hold down shift, and click the LAST item
They should all be highlighted now
    Then use Edit/Delete
NB it may take a couple of mins (or ten!) for the items to disappear from your view, particularly if syncing with MobileMe.

  • How do I delete an event from my calendar?

I am having trouble deleting events off of my calendar

    Hi,
I was facing the same problem. In the calendars it will show an indication as from which calendar is it picking it from. For example, if you have synced 2 or more calendars in your iPhone or iPad, you can choose to indicate them through a different color dots that appear next to calendar name if you click on an event. From this you will get to know form where it is picking up the data from. If it is picking from iCloud, the solution is login to iCloud using your computer and delete the event in the iCloud. After doing this go to settings, iCloud. Under iCloud just turn off the calendar option. You will get an option to delete or keep. Select delete. Later turn it on again. Now the event that you deleted from iCloud will go away.

  • Relinking Deleted Audio to Clips

Is there a way to relink deleted audio from clips that were unlinked from their audio tracks that were then deleted? so basically, if I have a clip, cut it and edit it, unlink the video and audio, delete the audio, and then later want to have the audio again. One way would be to drag in the clip, align it with the old clip, copy all edits and delete the old clip, but I have a lot of clips. I thought one option would be to open the .prproj file in a text editor and change it there, as this has saved me hours of work on other applications. Can't find any info though on the file structure, and I could spend the better part of 2 weeks hunting this one down. If anyone has a fix, I would very much appreciate it. And Alt-dragging the source clip from the bin onto the old clip does not bring in the audio.
    Thanks

There's no 'easy' way to do this.  That's why it's best to never delete the audio from clips.  Mute the track if you have to, but leave the clip in tact.
