Split audio video tracks on iMovie on iPad 3

This has probably been asked before but I'm having trouble navigating through this new support interface to find the answers.
I have a new iPad 3 with Retina display. When I bought it I downloaded the latest version of iMovie for this iPad.
When I drop a video clip (with audio) into the timeline the video and audio are synced. (linked)
So......
How can I easily unlink (split) the video and audio so that I can shift the audio and have that audio play over a different video clip?
How can I split the video and audio so that I can carry over the audio into the next clip in an L cut?
How can I drop in only the camera audio without any video?
How can I drop in the audio and have it play under a still photo?
These all seem like basic operations needed to have a polished little video.
I KNOW iMovie is not Final Cut but I don't want a movie made by
iMovie on this iPad to be just straight video clips married to the original audio.
There must be a way to do this but it doesn't seem obvious so I hope you can tell me how.
Thanks
Steve

You cannot do any of this in iMovie iOS.
It is just a basic editor that does not have any advanced audio tools.

That is all you can do on the iPad sorry.
It's not built for compex editing.
You could try Avid on iPad.

  • Can QT 7 pro isolate audio from combined audio/video tracks?

I just upgraded to Pro to try to convert small video clips (.mov files) taken on an HP digital camera into an iMovie-compatible format- they will play fine in QT (both audio and video), but there is no separate audio track. No matter what format I save the clips in, they lose the audio portion. Can QT or iMovie solve this?
    G4 tower   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

It sounds (no pun intended) like the file format from your camera is MPEG-1 (muxed). QT can play but not export or convert the audio. Same with iMovie.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your .mpg files to QT formats.

  • Multiple Video Tracks in Imovie?

Hi. I have a piano duet I wish to play with myself. I want to make a movie of me playing both parts, with both video tracks appearing on the screen. Is this possible with iMovie '09?

    Hi Schillim,
    welcome to this forum
as catspaw wrote. iM is a more basic app, not a "real movie maker's" edit application...
if you want more elaborate feature, have a look at FinalCutExpress...
or, you can "pimp yo' iMovie" with plug-ins, for multi-clips have a look here:

  • Are there 2 video tracks in iMovie?

    Hello all.
I am returning to non linear editing, after about an 8 year hiatus. In college I was trained on Media 100 software. Recently I have come back into A/V production work, and currently familiarizing myself with iMovie.
I would like to know if in iMovie, can one have 2 video tracks, and switch back & forth between them. For instance, to edit an interview with an A camera & B camera.
    thanks!

    hey there Ravner,
i'm running FCS2 on my MacBook all but Color & haven't tried Motion yet, but it loaded. so far so good i like that i can edit my HDV footage w/out it converting to A.I.C. which makes for a very large file. the tiny Canvas playback window(4", diagonal) is a bit of a strain but that's why i use a 2nd display.
    good luck.

  • Does Flash Access support encrypting the specific audio/video track in a multirate video file?

    Hi,
It seams that Flash Access supports encrypting the multirated mp4 file. By setting encrypt.contents.video=true, encrypt.contents.audio=true, the encryption process will encrypt all the video tracks and audio tracks inside this mp4 file.
    I am wondering:
Does Flash Access support encrypting the specific audio track or video track by giving the trackID for a specific bitrate inside this multirated mp4 file?
    Thanks in advance,
    Xia Hui

I am not aware of existing or new feature which allows to encrypt particular track. You can encrypt all audio, all video or both.

  • Splitting Audio at Playhead in iMovie '09

    Hello,
I've just upgraded to iMovie '09 from iMovie HD. So far so good - seems to be a more powerful product. However, there is one thing I used to do in iMovie HD which I can't seem to do in iMovie 09.
Basically I would like to split an audio clip at a precise spot. In more detail:
I have an 8 minute movie I've produced from various video clippings and still images. I'm also using two pieces of music as background to this. In all of the video clippings I have adjusted the volume of the background music so that it doesn't distract from the video's sound. However, one of the video clippings contains a sizable portion of someone's speech and I don't want to just duck the background music volume to 0% as I don't want to lose that much from the background music. Instead, I want to be able to split the background music so that it totally stops at the beginning of the speech and resumes again on the following clips. Just to confirm, I know I can reduce the background volume to 0% during the video clip, but I don't want to lose this part of the background music - I need it to play during the following 5 still images - otherwise I won't have enough background music for the entire 8 minutes of visual.
In iMovie HD I used to be able to select "Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead" and this is exactly what I am wanting to do here in iMovie '09. Is this possible?
I have viewed all the iMovie 09 tutorials and done a search in these forums, but can't seem to find my answer.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks,
    Joe.

The answer in that case is to drag the music track in twice. You can trim off the end of the music track by dragging the handle on the end to the left.
Then on the next copy of the music track, adjust the start point by dragging the handle on the left to the right.

  • Split audio/video using Airplay and Apple TV?

I have a MBP and a Vizio TV hooked up with my ATV. They are in the same room in my living roon. The computers on my MBP are great and the speakers on my Vizio TV suck. Sorry, that's not possible.

  • Exporting MPEG 2 files with audio & video tracks COMBINED?

I want to post a film on Google Video. I'm told they like MPEG2 files, but with the audio and video combined.
How can I create an MPEG2 with the video and audio combined?
I've also been told I can change the .m2v extension to .mpg after I've encoded, without causing problems. Their 'uploader application' doesn't like the .m2v extension.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Compressor's standard mpeg2 export presets are set up to create separate audio and video files. Changing a m2v extension to mpg does nothing. You still have a file with only video.
However, deeper in Compressor is the means to create muxed (mixed audio and video) files. Do a search here, it has been discussed a few times.
Still, why not send them an mpeg4 file?

  • How can I display & split the audio & video from the same digitized clip?

I digitized a scene into iMovie that I edited on a professional system which I don't have access to anymore. The whole scene is 1 clip. Now I see a few tweaks that I want to make, so I was hoping to do them in iMovie.
I want to "pull up" the audio in one section - meaning I want to take cut about 20 frames of audio from the end of a shot, and then move all the other audio up to fill the hole. To compensate for the missing 20 frames, I'll cut video off the head of the next shot. Some call this prelapping. Some call it an L-cut. Some call it asymmetrical trimming. Either way, I can't figure out how to do it in iMovie.
My clip appears in the timeline as one track - a single track that contains the video and 2 audio tracks. How can I display the audio that's tied to the video on its own track? Then I think I could split audio & video wherever I wanted and trim things up - but I can't figure out how to do it.
Am I asking too much of this software?
BTW, I never see the option to "Split audio clip at playhead". I'm not displaying clip volume or waveforms. Choosing to display waveforms doesn't show me anything. Maybe iMovie thinks I'd only want to see waveforms of audio that isn't tied to my video-and-audio clips?
Thanks in advance for any help...

    Jordon,
"Am I asking too much of this software?"
    No, you're not.
You first want to select your clip(s) and choose Advanced>Extract Audio.
This will copy the audio from the video clip and place it on one of the two separate audio tracks while lowering the audio level to zero in the original video track.
You can now edit and move the audio independently of the video.
With the audio clip selected, you'll find you now have access to Edit>Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead.

  • IMovie '11 Audio & Video Out of Sync

Hey guys like a lot of other people, I am having a problem with my audio & video synchornization with iMovie '11 on a 2011 Macbook Pro.
The video: Using iMovie '11 9.0.8-  It is 1 hour and 53 minutes long recorded through the Facetime HD Camera (1280 x 720). Audio is recorded through the internal mic.
Audio & Video get out of sync approximately 10 seconds into the video and gets progressively worse.
I have tried detaching the audio and exporting it in different formats. I have tried viewing it in MPEG Streamclip, VLC and Quicktime and it's all out of sync.
It also says "Indicates clip frame rate (24fps) is not a multiple of the current project (25fps)."
    HELP!

Thanks AppleMan1958 for the info. I will give it a try.
I would much rather keep things simple and not have to spend the money and time to learn Final Cut Pro X. It just seems silly for Apple to not include such a simple feature in iMovie 11 and force us to do these workarounds.
I am trying to make some instructional videos for my wife and I am finding I need to purchase more and more items. First a better camcorder to replace the flip with it's limited zoom and poor light ability. So I decided to get the new Canon HF R 400. Then of course a better mike so I got the Zoom H2N. So the room is a little dark so now the CN 160 led lights. Wait now I need an adapter because the Canon doesn't have a shoe to attach the lights. Oh now it seems recording HD  footage means it needs to be transcoded into files that are 6 to 10 times larger so now I need a large external drive. So I guess a workarround in imovie is better than purchasing FCPX.
The good part is that there are people such as yourself on these forums to help us newbies as we blunder along.

  • Multiple Video Tracks

With Imovie HD, just wanted to know if it was possible to have multiple video tracks and how? Also I cant seem to find the 'project library' or any 'advanced' tool section...
    Cheers!!

    Hi
No there are no "Multiple video tracks" in iMovie any version.
If it is the effect "Picture in Picture" Then You can add plug-ins from
third part developer that can give this.
    Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html
    http://www.imovieplugins.com/fxhome.html
But if it is real "Multiple video tracks" You need cheapest and "best" solution
    is FinalCut Express.
If it is so that You shoot/record with multiple Cameras/Simultanious AND Continous
Then You would gain greatly on FinalCut Pro (Studio 2 bundle).
To work with this multi-clip function is Great.
    Yours Bengt W
