Split by Song Position SPL?

In my ref manual, and in some tutorial videos I watched, you could use a command to split a region at the SPL, instead of having to use the scissors tool. That would seem to be an accuarate method of making a split... however it does not seem to exist anywhere in Express.
Can express do this? .... or is it only available in the LogicPro version? Are there any other options of splitting regions without using the scissors.

Thanks I came to that conclusion also... I did learn that if you select the scissors and hold down and drag a little... a line appears giving you a more accurate cutting point, then you release and it cuts. At first I was just moving the tool and only clicking when I thought I had the point. It was difficult using the scissors icon to know exactly where it was going to cut.
Thanks...brad

  • Playlist Song Position in Memory ipod 7th generation

I recently purchased a 7th generation ipod upgrading from a 4th generation which I had for several years.  With my 4th generation ipod I would frequently listen to a playlist at work in shuffle mode that would have over a 1,000 songs.  This could take about 14 days to completely listen to the entire playlist.  If I didn't use the ipod for 3 or 4 days and then want to continue the playlist exactly where I left off, there was no problem.
I've noticed that with my 7th generation ipod, this isn't the case.  If I pause a playlist then start it again several days later, the last song that I listened to is ready to play but the playlist starts all over again and treats that song as song 1.  However, if I don't wait several days and want to listen to the playlist the next day, the playlist picks up right where it left off.
My question is this:  how long does the 7th generation ipod hold a playlist song position in memory?  Is there a work around to hold it in memory indefinitely?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Shuttle jog wheel to control song position

How do I make a Countour A/V Shuttle XPress USB jog the Logic song position bar ?

The easiest way to control this is to drag the music track in and drop it on the clip where you want it to start. This way, it will show up as a track beneath the video clips. If you drag it in as background, it will fill up all the space, so you have less control.
    This video tutorial should help.

  • Split one song file into 3 parts?

I have a Damien Rice song (Eskimo) that is 3 songs with lots of silence between them all in one track. Is there any way to split the song/file into 3 parts/tracks so that I can have the 3 pieces as separate tracks?
    thanks for any suggestions.

Yes. In the full-length file set the stop and start times, by right-clicking on the track and then "Get Info" > "Options." Then "OK." Then right click on the track and select "Convert Selection to XX" and it will create a new shorter file in your preferred import format.
Do this three times to get the 3 short versions that you want.

  • How do I play Split-track songs?

Hi, how do I play split-track songs in my library. It comes through with vocals and music together. How do I turn the vocals down? I am not sure that I can, but thought that the question should be asked.

You could always play an unchecked song if you selected it and clicked play. iTunes should however skip over any unchecked songs when playing the next song after playback of the current song completes. iTunes 11.0.1 seems to behave properly for me...
What version of iTunes are you running?
Which view are you using when you notice a problem?

  • When i add my own album cover it splits the songs up

when i add my own album cover it splits the songs up making it look like that the songs are from different albums...
it doesn't happen to all of the albums that i've added my own covers to...i make sure that all the TAG info is the same for everything with the exception of the song title. and blank all the other categories by checking the info boxes so that it will erase any info in any of the categories...
it'll show that like one track by itself then like 3 by their self then like 8 and back to one....and once i delete the album artwork it'll go back to looking like it's all from one album which it should.

I had a similar problem. This may sound dumb, but check the case (upper case / lower case) of every letter of the album name and make sure each song is EXACTLY the same (choose one song and do a copy paste to the rest). I don't know why adding album art causes the songs to appear to be from different albums, but once I matched the album name down to the case, I was fine.

  • Shuffle songs position doesn't work

My iPod doesn't work on the shuffle position, just play songs in order. Anyone could help me???

Unfortunately it just flash an orange light on the led but it doesn't show up in iTunes or on the desktop, no error messages.
Now, after many minutes from the connection, an "Ipod" show up in system Profiler in the "Hardware/USB" line, under "Bus USB" and this is what I can read:
    iPod:
      ID prodotto:          0x1301
      ID fornitore:          0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
      Versione:           1.00
      Numero di serie:          000A2700110D49C4
      Velocità:          Fino a 12 Mb/sec
      Produttore:          Apple
      ID posizione:          0x04100000
      Corrente disponibile (mA):          500
      Corrente necessaria (mA):          500
So I start "iPod Reset Utility 1.0.4" but it says "waiting for iPod is ready", but after many minutes the situation does not change, except the intermittence of the orange led.
And "iPod Reset Utility" does not recognize the iPod:
    Name (empty)
    Serial number (empty)
    Software version (Unknown)
Capacity (empty), Used (empty), Free (empty).

  • Is it possible to split a song and use different chords?

Hi there, I have the following question. I see that I can choose a chord type for the song (eg C Maj or C Min).
However, if I want to change this further in the song it changes for the full song.
How can I include a split in the song in such a way that I can use multiple tone types through the song?
I now do this through transponing up and down but that is probably not the proper way.
    Thanks,
    Arnoud

The "Transposition Track" will allow you to transpose selected measures to a new key for all tracks and loops in parallel.  Add the transposition track from the menu bar: Track > Show Transposition Track.
Then command-click in the track to create contro points and drag the line between the control ppoints up or down to transpose that region of the song.
For example, to transpose a part of a song by a fifth:
Or, if you only want to transpose a part of a rhythm track, transpose selected loops in the track for a chord progression.

  • Manually Change Song Position in Playlist?

I know that you can drag and drop songs to re-order them in the playlist, but within iTunes, is there a way to change the song's position in the playlist without drag and drop? If not in iTunes, does anyone know of a third party plugin or program that could do this?
The question seems weird at first so I'll add a little background. I have a playlist with ~1,500 songs in it and I want to quickly change the order of newly added songs to the playlist. Adding a new song to the playlist puts it at the very bottom but I may want to put it in the middle instead and dragging and dropping multiple songs in different spots take a bit of time. Not a huge issue, but it would be cool if there was a workaround

Many Thanks. When I tell you I tried dragging the songs around and "that" sounds fishy, just know that I had to Re-Boot twice just to get iTunes to Open today via Desktop Shortcut. Apparently, my song order attempt coincided with a rare glitch that disappeared.
    Thanks again.

  • Is it possible to split a song in 2 as a whole, and insert a new part in the middle?

Im recording a song, and just realized id like to have an 8 bar drum part in the middle of it, before it kicks in to the other part...
Is it possible to do this or do I have to cut and paste each track indivually?  There are 27 so it would be pretty time consuming this way.
    Thanks in advance.

I have a 10 track recording which needs to be split into multiple songs, is there anyway to do this as a single project?

    Jimi
so you end up with your track cut into multiple songs, then what?
if you copy these to the burn file, and burn it, will the songs appear on the cd as seperate tracks that you named them?
    or just song 1,2,3..?
I have the same situation. I wanted to export to multitrack, but it wouldent let me - MT was grayed out - not clickable.
as I recall NERO had a cd authoring program where you could import those clips we made above, then send them to the cd in that order.
is there no way to do this with soundtrack? or garageband?

  • Changing Song Position in Playlist

I created a Playlist with a Different Song Order but iTunes Alphabetized them after I moved about some screens. Thought they would stay in the order dragged in. What's the secret?
In Copying to a USB for car audio I edited the track #'s as Part of the Song Title to make the desired order - surely that's Not the Only Way?

  • Songs from same album splitting into seperate albums

I have had this problem a few times and have been able to work through it, until now. I have ripped albums onto itunes and had themshow up as 2 or 3 different albums of the same name on in the album art viewer on itunes. Last night I did a Trans-Siberian orchestra album and it did the same thing. I would select all the songs and change the album name to the same one on the ID3 tag, but they would still show as 2 albums- both named the same. It would put 13 songs in 1 album and 4 in another every time. I finally went in and named each info block except song title exactly the same and it finally seemed to take. I itunes i finally got it to show up as 1 album. Here's the catch-- when I exported it to Ipod the stupid thing split the songs up into 3 (!!) albums on the cover art viewer and listed them under the artist that way too. And each of the displayed albums are named EXACTLY the same- no difference in Caps or anything. Anyone have any Ideas?

The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
If the above is not the issue, try this also. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".

  • Deleting everything prior to a spot in a song

I want to split a song and delete the first part. How can I do this?

Do you mean an audio file of a song or a song project with a mix of several tracks?
For a single audio file it is easy. Just select the track with the audio file, position the playhead and use the command "Edit > Split region at playhead". Then delete the cut off part of the region.
For a complete song arrangment, use the "Arrangement track". Define an arrangement region for the part of the song you want to delete and delete this Arrangement region, see:
