Split Mac Mini image

hello,
I have a question, and if anyone out there could trhow me a bone you'd be doing me a huge fav..... can a mini mac image be split? I im on the process of buying a new mini mac and I would love to split my image either on 2 42-inch HD TV's or get 2 monitors. I dont know if there is a VGA imput on and HDTV (2009 model)? If thats the case, could I hook up one monitor (HDTV) through an hdmi cable and the other monitor (HDTV) through a VGA cable? or what would be the best way (image quality) to split the image?
Given the case that I can hook up 2 monitors, how do I split the image? How do i not end up with two exact same images?
I appreciate any help ANYONE can give me!!!
cheers,

¡Hola Panchito, te doy la bienvenida otra vez a las discusiones de Apple!
What you are referring to is an extended Desktop, where the Mac's graphic user interface is spread over two side by side displays. The other option is called mirroring, where both displays show the same image and the Desktop is contained within just one display's width.
A new Mac mini has 1 HDMI port and 1 mini DisplayPort. Most HDTVs have had HDMI ports for a few years now. I suggest that you use HDMI. You would just need an HDMI to HDMI cable for one display, and a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter plus an HDMI to HDMI cable for the other display. That would use both of the mini's video ports to power your displays with digital audio and video through HDMI cables.
I am just wondering about the size. You may find that a good resolution for the 42" HDTVs may make text and such too small to view comfortably. Perhaps someone with more experience with large HDTV displays can comment.

  • Mac Mini 2011 with i7 processor, but stuttering images?

    Hi there,
Finally I've gone and got a Mac Mini for my HDTV, I got the 2.5 GHz model, but upgraded the processor to a 2.7 i7 one. It also has the AMD Radeon display which I thought was meant to be top of the range....
But as I'm watching video on my TV I'm seeing occassional stuttering images. It's not the flickering screen problem that I've seen reported elsewhere where the screen goes black for a second. This is like little split second freezes, or like a frame has been skipped.
It's not just on digital files I watched from my iTunes library. I've also seen the same thing when playing a DVD in the super drive I also bought with my Mac Mini.
    Other info that may help:
My Mac Mini is connected by HDMI to my Denon 1910 AVR, which itself is connected to my TV via HDMI.
The HDMI cable I've got going from Mac to AVR was the same one I used to have in my Apple TV (last year's model). It wasn't an expensive cable. I don't recall having similar problems with the Apple TV.
My TV is an LG 50Hz (32LH50YD).
In the display preference panel, I've got 1080p selected for resolution, and 50Hz PAL for the refresh rate (PAL is the standard in Australia).
Is the problem with the Mini, with the AVR or with the TV? Any ideas on how to trouble shoot?
    Thanks in advance....

I have the same i7 model and a similar set up (HDMI from Mini to Amp, then HDMI to TV), but I've only noticed this happen once on a downloaded TV episode (standard def).  I assumed it was something to do with the content I was watching or due to having a lot of stuff running in the background.
Have you checked Activity Monitor to see if there's anything eating up CPU while you're watching?
Is the problem repeatable at the same point in the same DVD / download? Or is it random?
Have you tried viewing the content with different software?  I use Plex for all my content viewing, except stuff downloaded directly from iTunes.

  • Mac Mini / 23" Display / 10.5 - Screen resolution splits in half

    Hey All,
I'm using a Mac Mini with a 23" aluminum display.
Recently installed Leopard on it, and now I'm having a really funny issue:
When I try and restore a window that has been minimized to the dock, the window does restore as its supposed to, and then for a split second, the display seems to swap the left and right side of my display. It almost looks like the image slides to the side 50%. So the pieces of my screen that were at the edges of the display, temporarily meet in the middle.
    It then switches immediately back.
I think this might happen at other times too, but its 100% reproducible when restoring a minimized window.
    Any thoughts?
    Best,
    Robert

I reported the same problem in another thread before.
I also have a G4 Mini, and I also have this exact same issue with a 3rd party (Dell 24") screen. It's not related to the screen or output (happens with the DVI and analog connection) but probably a memory issue with the video chip (out of memory maybe?)
It seems to happen only at the highest resolutions (I run 1920x1200, and have also seen it happen at 1920x1080). 1680x1050 and smaller works fine.
I hope it's a bug that can be fixed, since Tiger had no problems at all.

  • Mac Mini distored image on wake from sleep with HD TV

I've got a Mac Mini that does this when it wakes from sleep:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlqYc8qH7ps
The image is distorted for several minutes and eventually corrects itself. It happened in 10.6 and now happens in 10.7, it's actually worse in 10.7
The Mini is connected to a Vizio 55" LED LCD TV via HDMI. I've had the logic board replaced twice and the RAM has also been replaced.
If I change the resolution setting it also fixes the image.
I was able to test it on another TV also a Vizio but different model. That was in 10.6 and the problem happened there too.
Once the image is fixed it runs fine. Though I do find that movies play a little stutteringly particularly noticeable via slow pans but that may not be related to this issue.

It is standard Mountain Lion error due to the networking ability which is comparable to wet string. (actually that was lion.. it dried out some with Mountain Lion.. higher in the hills perhaps!!)
    See C12 and C17

But many people are suffering the same issue..
And the above is even a little out of date.. you might need to do a reset to the TC.

  • Is it possible to do an image file restore in a Mac Mini running Windows 7 in Parallels?

I recently purchased my first Mac, a Mac Mini.  It will have Windows 7 installed with Parallels.  I will probably sell my current Dell laptop Ebay prior to receiving my Mac, and have done a complete data and image file backup to an external drive.  My question is, when I am in Windows 7 on my Mac, will I be able to utilize Windows Restore to load my .iso image from my external drive?   I'd like to have it looking just like what I had on my old Windows machine.  I will have the 1TB fusion drive on my Mac, so space isn't an issue.  My goal is to eventually migrate most of my files and data over to the Mac OS, after which I will only keep a few programs such as Office 2013 in Windows.   Will I have to resize my Windows partition to accomodate this, or will Parallels or Mac OS do this automatically for me?  I'm totally new to the Mac world, so I apologize if these questions have already been answered elsewhere.

Not all virtualization engines are the same.  I would consult with Parallels if that is going to be the one of choice.

  • My Mac Mini won't allow me to install a new image (2011, i5)

Hello. My original HDD for my Mac Mini died so I replaced it with a new one. I have downloaded Mavericks and 'burned' the image to a USB stick. When I turn the Mac Mini on and hold down 'Option' to get to the selection screen, I choose the Mavericks image and then this happens:
    http://i.imgur.com/69wIn63.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/n7KXDH8.jpg
It won't allow safe boot, either.
Any clue as to what I can do to remedy this? I really need the machine back up and running as I do all of my development on there. Thank you in advance.

I created a bootable USB stick with a Mavericks image I downloaded from the App store. I was able to reimage my Macbook just fine; my MacMini kept throwing the above error. I've attempted to boot the MacMini and do a 'Command + R' and partition the HDD, erase it, and download Mavericks directly online, but when it seems to be working, it reboots and gives me a folder icon with a '?' in it. I'm kind of stuck and getting quite aggravated

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
If you have two displays attached, then the function to change from mirrored to extended Desktop will appear in System Prefs/Displays.

  • TS3195 My mac mini (Snow Leopard, v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone 4, iphone 4s or ipad2 in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview but it does in iTunes.  I am at a loss for importing photos, short of emailing them.  Glitch with OS X 10.6.8 ?

My Mac Mini (v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone as a device in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview although, iTunes does.  I am at a loss for importing photos other than emailing them to myself. Same problem with my iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad2 and New iPad. Is this a problem with OS X 10.6.8 as I read some posts claim? Please help.

I was able to import photos in iPhoto and Image capture when I was running SL 10.6.8 on my older MacBook.
Did you try quitting everything, restart the Mac and then try again?
Are there any updates at all for the Mac? I was helping one user not all that long ago and there were updates for her Mac software that had nothing to do with the OS and when she downloaded the updates - the iPad was then recognized in iTunes.

  • How do you make a floppy image on a mac mini?

I tried the following to make a bootable floppy image and it would not even read in a virtual machine.  I have Oracle Virtualbox.  I am using a Mac Mini 2011 with 4GB of RAM.  I have tried making a blank floppy and copying to it by dragging and using the Terminal, but neither works.  Here are the cmds I used:
    dd if=/dev/zero bs=1024 count=1440>floppy.img
Then I mounted and erased the image file in Disk Utility.
    cp -Rpv /Volumes/Untitled/ /Volumes/UNTITLED\ 1/
The above command copied all the files from the floppy to the image but the image wouldn't read on the virtual machine.
    Thanks,
    ericgsch

It's an old thread, but searches still retrieve it. For what it's worth, look at (for example) http://kb.parallels.com/en/4794
The procedure to make an image of a floppy disk is basically as follows:
Put your disk in your floppy drive. Open Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, select your floppy drive, select New Image, select "read/write" and no encryption, then Save (wherever you want the image to be). Then (in Finder) you might want to change the filename extension from .dmg to something else, like .flp or .fdd, depending on what you want the image for. For VirtualBox, you might want .img.

  • Distorted Images in Slideshow when using Philips Screen on Mac Mini

Photos are distorted (horizontally stretched) when a slideshow is run independent from the preferences (tried them all). However, the full screen edit mode displays the images correctly. The problem did not occur with the previous analog screen.
    I'm using the following Mac Mini (PowerMac10,2, PowerPC G4 (1.2), 1.33 GHz)
with the latest iPhoto version 6.0.6 under 10.4.9 and with a Philips 200WS 20" screen (DVI port) running the the native resolution of 1680x1080.
    Mac Mini G4 1.33 GHz, 1GB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Philips 200WS screen
    MacBook 1.83 GHz, 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I actually just encountered the same exact problem today. I've had a Mac Mini connected to a 42" TV for the past 6 months, and I always used ARD to view the screen (rarely via the TV).
Today, I moved the machine to a new location, one which leaves it headless, and now ARD displays a black screen. I don't know if it has to do with the Mini not knowing what resolution to present, since it doesn't have a display connected to it, but it's definitely causing a problem- I no longer have the 42" TV, or any display, for that matter, to use!

  • My mac Mini has problem rendering images and video

    THE PROBLEM:
My mac mini has problem rendering JPEG image. There are strips on the images. Other images such as GIF, PNG, TIFF, and BMP are displayed nicely.
The images shown in the links below illustrate the problem:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/terencewong/71481156/
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/terencewong/73360989/
(Please note that this image is grabbed from my faulty Mac Mini and saved into TIFF. For uploading purpose, I converted it into JPEG on ANOTHER computer.)
For movies, AVI can be playback without problem. But when it is converted to MPEG, it looks like an untunned TV channel.
    FIXES TRIED:
I did erase and install 3 to 4 times using both the install disc and my Tiger Family Pack. All ended up with strips on the JPEG images and the generated MPEG movies.
I've also tried to flash the firmware to 113-xxxxx-124 using ATI's october 2005 universal ROM update, however, the ROM Revision shown in System Profiler is still 113-xxxxx-116 no matter how many time I reboot the system.
    INVESTIGATION:
Yesterday, I did some research and got to know that JPEG and MPEG are using DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) for decompression. And the ATI Radeon 9200 chip provide such a transform on hardware basis, which free the CPU from doing something else. Feel free to point out my inaccuracy.
    HARDWARE SPECIFICATION:
I bought the Mac Mini in the last Februray.
The system Boot ROM version is: 4.8.9f1
Display card is ATI Radeon 9200
    Chipset Model: ATY,RV280
    Revision ID: 0x0001
    ROM Revision: 113-xxxxx-116
    A POSSIBLE CONCLUSION:
I suspect that it is this part of the chip (the DCT) that is faulty.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Many thanks!

Assuming that your display is tightly connected, thus the problem is not caused by something as simple as that, the fact that a full erase and install has not removed the problem would, I think, point to this being a hardware issue, and given that everyone's mini (with the possible exception of some of the latest ones) has the same video chipset as yours, and do not suffer the problem that you appear to, it seems very likely that your mini has a fault which is in need of repair.
If you have an Apple Store nearby, I would take it there to have it checked out - at the very least they should be able to replicate your problem using an in-store display, and if not, thusly suggest it's something external to the mini and concerning your display or something very unusual in the immediate environment of the mini. If you don't have an Apple Store in reach, I'd take the system to an Apple authorized service provider since at the present time it is under warranty.
