Split or extract pages from a PDF form?

Once I convert my PDF into a form in LiveCycle Designer I am unable to then extract or split pages from the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Does anyone know if this is possible?

LiveCycle PDFs aren't really PDFs so there are a lot of things in Acrobat you can't do with them.

"Adobe XI" does not exist.
There is Acrobat XI (Standard or Pro).
There is Adobe Reader XI.
Acrobat XI Pro (and maybe Standard) can extract pages from a PDF.
Adobe Reader XI cannot extract pages from a PDF.
Once either application is open it is easy to determine which you have open.
The "name" is in the top most "ribbon" of the application window.
From what you've written it appears that you are using Adobe Reader XI.

Im currently running Acrobat Pro XL and the option to extract pages from a PDF document as described in the below tutorial does not appear for me. Please help!

To extract pages, you need to use Acrobat (not Adobe Reader). As I can attest (because I do have both Reader and Acrobat installed on the same computer), it is quite easy to open files in Reader when you mean to open then in Acrobat. So, please make sure you have the right app open. (I pull this one all the time!)
Now, if the Tools menu is missing from Acrobat, choose View > Show/Hide > Toolbar Items > Show Toolbars to make them reappear.

Extracting data from a pdf form

livecycle es2, workbench 9.0
I'm new to workbench and have a problem extracting data from a pdf form submitted to a short lived process.
I have set up the following very simple process :
default startpoint > ProcessForm > exportData > set value > set value > Write Document
The intention is to update the document and write it to disk. So far, each step works except for the 'export data' where I cannot get the pdf to extract to xml.
The Input to the 'export data' step is a variable (myDoc), Data Type: Document, created from the incoming PDF form.
If I write out myDoc it is an exact copy of the incoming document, so I guess the start and finish steps of of the process are OK.
The incoming (PDF) form I was given had no data schema, but I thought I could access the form data by exporting to an xml variable....
Service : FormDataIntegration / exportData
input (PDF Document)    variable : myDoc
output(Data extracted)     variable : myXMLData
Then in the next step (set value) access the xml element I am after ..

Location: /process_data/@groupId      Expression: /process_data/myXMLData/xdp/datasets/data/form1/mainPage/groupId
This is did not work, so I got the incoming form, exported the form data to an xml file, and created a schema using Stylus Studio. I then imported that into the myXMLdata definition. ( BTW - Do I need to specify the root node after importing it ? )
Still not working !
Extra info : The XML view of my incoming form shows I have a minimal dataset definition- is this OK ??

Need to pre-populate and Extract data from static PDF form

Hi Jasmin or Jayan or anyone else that can answer.
I have a requirement to use Digital Signatures. Because of that, the forms must be static PDFs and the form variables will be “document form”. I want to pre-populate the form via an SQL query and custom render process and render it as PDF so that the submitter can apply a digital signature when he/she is done and ready to submit for approvalSubsequent approvers will also digitally sign the form. I know that I will specify the custom render to render only once and thereby preserve the signature(s) on the form. I do, however, need to extract data from the form to control the business process. I cannot access the data in the form the same way I do with an xdp and I also cannot pre-populate the same way I do with an xdp.
Any suggestions on how to attack this?

Parth, one problem with your approach is he will submit PDF and therefore you won't be able to put the PDF in a variable that's suppose to contain just xml.
The prepopulation should be the same. If you start off with an xdp, then you will call a render service that merges data with your xdp to create a PDF.
Now when you submit, you will submit the entire PDF back in the Document Form variable. In Workbench, you can use the FormDataIntegration service to extract data from that PDF that's being stored under Document Form var/object/document and put it in an xml variable. Then you can just use xPath to do your condition.
I'm assuming you'll just pass that same Document Form variable to the next step, because if you do any change to the PDF it'll brake the signature.
Let me know if I missed anything.

When I extract pages from a PDF and go to "Save As", Acrobat completely crashes and disappears. Why?

I work for a remote desktop hosting company, and am having an issue with Adobe Acrobat that we have installed on one of our customer's terminal servers.
The OS running on the customer's TS is Windows 2008 R2 Standard. The customer is running Windows 8.1 on their local PC.
Basically, the customer will open up a PDF within Adobe Acrobat, extract a couple of pages, and go to "Save As" within the new window. At this point, the software will crash and close immediately.
Going through the same process on another Windows 8.1 PC, logged on as the same user onto the TS, the problem does not happen.
It seems that this problem only happens on the customer's PC. We have tried logging on as other users on to the TS from this PC and get the same crashing and closing problem.
Is there an obvious answer to this that I seem to be missing?

I have created a large PDF document with several pages, I have a link symbol on the contents page of the document that relates to several services on different pages within the document. Currently they are identified by having the same link symbol on every page that relates to that particular service. I was wondering if there was any way in which I can create a interactive pdf, when I click the initial symbol link on the contents, it collates all the relevant linked service pages into a single document or guides the viewer to all the pages without having to create a separate pdf document for each service?

Simple answer - no. PDF files cannot reassemble themselves into new documents, nor can you hide pages.

Extract pages in same PDF version as original document

That's it!
It is annoying to extract pages from a PDF 1.3 doc. and have the resulting files be in PDF 1.6.
It is also somewhat strange that the format is not even the native 1.7 format from Acrobat 8.1.1, which I'm using...
The most useful implementation would be to have a choice of output format with the original doc. format set as default.
I would also like a keyboard shorcut for the Extract feature, as requested in other posts...

Optimal application behaviour is subjective based on the user's needs.
My request stems from needing to split PDF documents into single-page documents without altering the format.
Adding a preference setting for the default behaviour would allow all users to have it their way: options to preserve format or save as specific format.
In addition, the save dialogue should contain an option to select the desired format, with the default being set from the preference setting.

I'm not sure what you mean by "enlarge" it. When your recipient views the PDF, they can enlarge the view (zoom in on the PDF) by choosing options from the View menu in Acrobat or Reader.

For starters, you will need Acrobat to extract pages from a PDF. (It's not something that you can do with the ExportPDF service.) If you don't have Acrobat, you can download a free 30-day trial from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.
Then, to extract pages, you would follow these steps:
Click on the Tools panel on the right side of the Acrobat window.
Click Pages to expand that category.
Click Extract.
Enter the page range that you want to extract in the From: and To: text boxes.
Click OK. Your pages are extracted into a new file.
Choose File > Save As to save the new file.
I hope that does the trick!
