Split pictures into a new event?

I took two sets of pictures, one last night and one today. When I imported the pics into iPhoto, I was hoping it would split them into two different events, since they were taken on different days, but it imported them all into a single event. How can I select a range of pictures in this event and split them into a new event?

While viewing the photos in the Photo mode of iPhoto with the View ➙ Sort set to By Date Command-click on  the photos you want to put in their own Event and use the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.

  • How can I get photos that are tagged in the people tab into a new event? I am using a PC and Elements 12?

Please help very frustrated trying to make a video for my parent's 50th anniversary. I have hundreds of pictures tagged in my mom and in my dad stack of pictures on the "people" tab. Is there anyway to drag them into a new event?

  • How can I import pictures into an existing event?

I am loading up my new MAC with various photos on CDs and would like to be able to import them into specific existing events, instead of creating a new event and dragging it to merge with another. How can I do this?  If not, is there an easy way to merge events without dragging from one end of the list to another - hard when you have a couple of hundred events.

You can't.  All import will go into a new event.  Then you can drag that event onto the Event you want to put the photos in and that will merge the two.

Where are you importing from – a camera or computer? If you are optimizing at import, make sure the background processes are completed. (Command-9)

  • Iphoto combined pictures into a single event

Iphoto took it upon itself to combine all my pictures before a certain date into one event. After that date and before another date, the thumbnails are missing. After that second date, everything is fine.
    I have trashed the plist,
    restored from a backup
and rebuilt the library using iphoto and iphoto library manager.
Iphoto library manager gave me some good results but left duplicates in the one large event and didn't split a lot of the events properly.
    Any other suggestions?

Since rebuilding the library didn't help you'll have to resort to regrouping the photos manually back into Events. One method is to create Smart Albums based on specific time frames. Then select the photos in that smart album and create a new event with them.
When that's done you can create a new library, open the old library in the Finder, go to the Originals folder and drag the new Event folders into the new iPhoto library. That will at least give you the events you created and leave out those duplicates (just import the new events that you created).

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Why can't I copy a picture into a new folder from iPhoto?

I have always been able to copy pictures from iPhoto and then copy them to my desktop or into new folders as I pleased. Suddenly, while trying to simply copy from iPhoto and then paste them into a new folder, the pictures do not appear. I've tried exporting them as well but for some reason, a select few pictures just don't appear. I can see them in iPhoto and I can even locate the original file with the Reveal in Finder option but I still can't copy into a new folder. I'm a bit perplexed. Any help you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.

If you want to export from iPhoto use drag and drop or the file -> export command. This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
if I wanted to paste into a different event in iphoto.
    You can't do this.
When you duplicate a photo you're creating a version (or virtual copy) of the photo. Both the first and the virtual versions point back to the same Master. The Master lives in the Event.
You can have different versions in Albums, as these too are virtual. A shot can be in any number of Albums and use no extra disk space. Having a shot in two Events uses double the disk space.
If you're determined to have a shot in multiple events then export the shot (file -> export) and then import the exported version back into iPhoto.
At heart,  Events are organisation for those who can't really be bothered. They are automatic - based entirely on Date and Time the camera records the photos as taken. You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways.
Now it's time to look at albums which are much more flexible than Events as an organising tool.

  • ICal Converts my appointments into blank New Event

    Hi guys,
First this problem happens only since I upgraded to Mountain Lion (version 0) and only on my Macbook pro.
So whenever I create a new event in iCal, after I've filled all the infos (name, location, hour, ...) whenever iCal synchronizes it changes my event into a blank new event.
This does NOT happen when I create a new event on my iPhone (iOS 6).
Can you please help me ?
Hope you can help me with this because that's a major problem in my daily job.
Thanks a lot for your answers

I can't find a calendar.cache file on my Tiger machine at home. Maybe it's different in Leopard. The cache for iCal in Tiger will be in the same place as Leopard: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.ical (it's a directory). The ~ indicates your home folder, the path starts there with your own Library folder, in case you weren't sure. Try moving the cache directory or appending the name to !com.apple.ical (I use the exclamation mark but anything will do), rather than deleting it first. Then, if you need it, just move/change it back. As for the main problem, I'm not so sure, but try this (it's Tiger/Leopard but might be applicable) http://www.zeldman.com/2008/01/11/usability-problems-with-mac-sync/. If you get your calendars back, do a backup - File/Back up Database...

  • How do you print all the photos in your flagged file? I don't want to make these photos into a new event.

I want to order several photos. I have flagged them and there is no option to select all and order the prints. I don't want to create a new event with these photos, as I want them in their original event files.
How are multiple photos ordered/exported for printing?

Go to your Flagged Photos Smrt Album on the Left.
Command - a will select All
Then File -> New -> Album

  • Split PDF into several new files

I have a .pdf file that I'd like to turn into three separate .pdf files. I know I can do this through screen capture, but the image isn't as sharp as the original text. How can I create new .pdfs from portions of the original one?

Alas, the sections I want to split the .pdf into don't break down neatly by page. For instance, the first section is only part of the first page, and the second section bridges two pages.
Is there any way I can create page breaks for each section and then extract pages?

  • How can I drag pictures into the new Pages so that they are inline where I release the drag?

Back in the day, like last week, I could drag in a picture and if I was holding command when I let go, the image was inlined exactly where I released.  Now that functionality seems to be gone - or maybe I just don't understand how to access it.

Thank you. That worked. I was able to open 1 window with multiple tabs. Thanks cor-el!

  • How to send edits into new event?

    Hello there,
I imported several videos into a new event. What I am trying to do is to edit specific sections of the videos and then rearrange them to make a single movie.
I started making edits to one of the video, but realised that If I continued I would have hundreds of little clips to move around. What I would like to do is send all my edits as separate clips into a new event to make it easier and less messy. Is there a way to do it quickly instead of exporting them one by one to re-importing them into imovie?
Sorry if this question was already asked, I searched but found nothing.
    Thank you in advance.
    OSX 10.9.5
    iMovie 10.0.3

No.  Events are to import original media into. in this case your input videos.  What you could do is to split the videos into pieces using Quicktime Player and afterwards import those into an event.
I'm afraid I'm not really clear why you want to put the edited pieces into a new event?  You must have created them in a project timeline so why not rearrange them there, delete the bits you don't want and complete and share the movie.   If you want to re-use the same pieces in another movie, keep the project and when you want to use them again copy the bits you want to re-use into the new project.

  • How to make New Events appear at TOP of page, not Bottom?

When I import photos, they are automatically put into a new Event. That's great. But that Event appears way at the bottom of my long events list, even though my Events are shown chronologically with the most recent events right at the top. I have to drag the new event all the way through dozens of older events in order to bring it up to the top, where I can figure out which other event folders those new images might belong (ex: "family photos, Fall 2008").
This isn't the biggest problem in the world, but I'd love to know how to set iPhoto to create the new event at the top of the list instead of the bottom. Any help? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In the View->Sort menu select Descending. However that will also have the photos in the Photos mode be sorted descending. In the Event mode you can sort the events in one direction and the photos in those events in the other. In the Photos mode both the Events and photos are sorted the same direction.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do I create a new event from a section of a long video clip

When I try to select a section of a long clip and drag it to a new event in the iMovie event library, the whole clip moves into the new event.  Isn't there a way to just select and move a section to the new event?

This does work, but the process is crushingly difficult for my mother. (Try to explain to a 60 year old that you need to reveal the clip in finder. Trim it, save it, trim it, save it, etc for each part of the video. Then re-import those clips into iMovie and delete the original large file from your events). This could have been accomplished with one keyboard shortcut or menu command.
I'm opposed to creating projects to organize events because it doesn't make sense when creating a Christmas montage to open a project and look for a clip then find it in the events when you could otherwise just look through Christmas 1984 and pull the clip you want. It creates a dual paradigm.
More than anything I want to attract Apple to this glaring flaw in their product. I can't see the downside of in-app splitting of events which was a feature of iMovie v9. Why remove it entirely? I know it's a rarely used feature, it could have been suitably hidden to avoid accidents. It wouldn't frustrate the average user, but it has confused the ever-living **** out of my mother.

  • Importing photobook pages into a new photobook

I've got a lot of experience working with PSE project files but I can't figure out how to take a page from an existing PSE project file and copy it into another project file. I've tried dragging and dropping (doesn't work), and can't seem to find a menu command for importing a page from a PSE file. does anyone have any advice?

    Here's what I've figured out....
For me, there's no real reason to have an Event called "Photostream May 2012" (or whatever the case may be). I think it just ends up taking up hard drive space and kind of ruins the flow of photos events I have in iPhoto.
BUT, I do like the ability to take photos on my iPad and then import them into iPhoto without having to connect my iPad physically to my iMac.
SO, I simply go into Photostream and select a group of photos that I would consider one "event" and drag them to "Events" at the top left section of iPhoto. This imports the photos into the "May 2012 Photo Stream" event (or whatever the name of the Photostream even may be that month.)
I then create a new event (Event-->Create Event), and drag and drop that Photostream into the new event. The new event is now a separate, individual event, not a Photostream event which can cause issues when you want to later import additional Photostream photos into iPhoto.
If you have multiple events you want to import, basically do the same thing. You can either split them in the Photostream event or split them from within the new event.
Until Apple changes the functionality of how a new event is created when you drag a set of photos from Photostream into iPhoto, I think we will have to use these additional steps. (I also think this is one of the reasons why the there is a function called "Create Event". At this time, I can't think of any other reason why that command exists.)
