Split-Screen (Preview Pane) View in Mail

Within Mr. Jobs keynote video back in January, he demoed a split screen view in Mail while viewing your inbox. This view shows a preview pane beneath the message. Yet I found no where in the settings to achieve this.
Am I missing something?

Nope, you are not missing anything. Its not there (yet).

  • How to access Attachments directly in Preview Pane view

    Hi,
    i've designed a xsltView on a SharePoint list using the standard preview pane in sharepoint designer. Attachments to list items are displayed in a row named 'Attachments' with a paper-clip icon. Is there any way to access the files in the attachment directly
    in the preview pane? Any xsl or java script solutions would be great.
    I've tried so far to access it with a little java script
    <xsl:for-each select="ViewFields/FieldRef[not(@Explicit='TRUE')]">
    <tr>
    <td nowrap="nowrap" valign="top" width="190px" class="ms-formlabel">
    <nobr>
    <xsl:value-of select="@DisplayName"/>
    </nobr>
    </td>
    <td valign="top" class="ms-formbody" width="400px" id="n{position()}{$WPQ}">
    <xsl:if test="@DisplayName='Attachments'">
    <script type="text/javascript">var url = "%MYSITE/LISTNAME%/Attachments/"+"<xsl:value-of select="@ID"/>";</script>
    <td><a href="javascript:document.location=url">CLICK</a></td>
    </xsl:if>
    </td>
    </tr>
    </xsl:for-each>
    the xsl:for-each block is the part where the table for the preview pane will be created. In the
    xsl:if test="@DisplayName='Attachments'"
    block i try to build the url path to the attachments. Usually the attachments are stored like. ...mysite/listname/Attachments/[ID]/...
    The Problem is, that i don't receive the proper ID Value, i get a string like '2445-5456-35464-234' (for example)
    The next Problem would be to get the prober name of the attached files.
    Does anyone know a solution for that. Maybe there's a simple line of xsl to do this.
    thanks and best regards,
    Matthias

    Hi Matthias,
    Please add below code within a column in the XSLT list view to display attachments of each list item.
    <SharePoint:AttachmentsField ControlMode="Display" ItemId="{$thisNode/@ID}" EnableViewState="true" FieldName="Attachments" runat="server" />
    Let me know if you have any question.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Preview Pane missing

    Hi there.
    My MD is missing his preview pane.
    I have tried to double click at the bottom where it should be, but its not there.
    At the bottom, is just the end of mail, its hard to explain, but there is no bar to double click on to get the preview pane back up.
    Is there another way to do this?
    I have tried quitting mail, restarting, and re-sizing the mail window, but all to no avail.
    Anyone got any other suggestions?

    My Preview Pane suddenly went missing, too. One moment it was there, next moment I looked up and it was gone!
    The real PITA though is the total lack of reference in Mail Help, not only on how to open a Preview Pane, but not even acknowledging that such a thing exists. I've searched on everywhere key word I can think of and zip, nada, nowhere.
    If anybody knows how to open a preview pane in the Mail app, PLEASE post it here.
    Without a preview pane, it's virtually useless.
    This is my first real disappointment with MacBook. As a tech writer I find the MacBook Help documentation pretty pathetic.

  • Left column is a preview pane

    I want create a view with the Preview Style for a list created from an excel import.
    From what I can tell, the left column must be a (linked to) column.
    The first column is Date, which is the item I want to appear  in the left column.
    When the list is created, it selects the first text column to be the (link to with Edit)
    I could creat a list manually, then copy in the data from the spreadsheet,
    But I still need to know how to make the data appear in the left column.

    Hi Dale,
    By default, the Title(linked to item with edit menu) column is used as the left column in the view which is in Preview Pane style.
    If we create a list by importing the spreadsheet, then the first column will be set as the Title(linked to item with edit menu) column and display in the left in Preview Pane view.
    What did you mean by “how to make the data appear in the left column”?
    If you want to display the data in left column, then you can put that column as the first one in spreadsheet and then import it to SharePoint.
    Or you can change the formula of the left column to display other column values in the left column.
    Please refer to the link below for detailed steps:

  • Mavericks mail - classic view with preview pane on the right

    I'm going to have to start using Mavericks, but the main reason I have resisted is the fact that Widemail doesn't work there. What I want seems simple. The "classic" mail view where I have column headers and a preview pane on the right, rather than underneath (screens are wider than they are tall... duh). It seems that mail in Mavericks can do one or the other, but not both. Is there any setting, addon, or third party client that will let me have both at the same time?
    Thanks

    I remember now that was the one but there was an alternative if you want to try that instead: http://www.macworld.com/article/140962/2009/06/movemail_previewpane.html

  • Moving Mail Message Preview Pane to Right of Screen Like in Entourage

    Hello,
    Would anyone be able to tell me if I can move my Mail Message Preview Pane to the right side of the screen like I can do in Entourage? I prefer the message preview screen on the right side instead of at the bottom as is the default in mail.
    Thanks,
    Ppsychling

    Ppsychling,
    Unfortunately, that is not an option. The only choice that the user has regarding the Preview Pane is to show or hide.
    Your valid feature request should be made through Mac OS X Feedback.
    ;~)

  • Hide/Disable preview pane in Mail

    Previously one could double-click the border seperating the preview pane from the list of messages to hide the preview pane.
    In the Mail application in Mavericks this border is no longer visible. How can I hide the preview pane in Mail on Mavericks?

    Hi,
    If you switch to Classic View in Mail Prefs, drag the Horizontal Splitter down to the bottom of the screen then switch back to Modern View, the Preview pane will be gone from both views.

  • Mail preview pane filling up with unnecessary info !

    "Crossed over" to Macbook and loving it, but... having set up Mac Mail with my Gmail account, I find that the preview pane for each message has dozens of lines of routing information before it gets to the actual email content. For example, 10 lines headed "received"with info about SMTP etc, authentication details and all that kind of stuff. So much so that the message itself ends up below the bottom of the screen, which kind of defeats the purpose of a preview pane. Any suggestions???? I would really like to resolve this as I started out using Entourage and found it kept freezing when I attached files to emails, so it would be nice to find some part of the Mac system that works as efficiently as Outlook on my old Windows PC - not that I am nostalgic for it!!!

    Hi timinbrazil & welcome to the forums.
    I see those when I have 'Long headers' enabled in the 'View/Message...' menu - toggle off to hide.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts In Mail Without Preview Pane

    Greetings, I like using any mail client (Mac or Windows or Linux) without the preview pane being open. This means the email in the Inbox is shown in list form, and opening an email means double clicking it to view it in a new window. However, on Mac there seems to be no keyboard shortcut to move to the previous or next email, which means I have to close the email, then double click the next email and becomes somewhat tedious.
    If the preview pane is open the up and down arrows (or the three finger swipe) moves to the previous or next message, but this doesn't work if the email is open in a new window.
    Does anyone know a keyboard shortcut that will work when an email is open in a new window?
    Thanks in advance.

    Yeah just want to agree that this is big flaw in Mac Mail.  Reading mail in preview pane is flawed to me for two reasons... one is that if you single click a message in your list (let's say to file it or flag it), it instantly gets marked as unread.  A lot of times this is NOT my intention.  So i accidentally mark stuff I haven't read thoroughly as unread.  Even more dramatic is that if you are clicked on a message in your message list (in the inbox, for example) and you press the delete key, it deletes the message (as it should) and then instantly highlights the previous message in your inbox... thus marking it READ!  ugh.. certainly not my intention, and caused me to mistakenly think messages were read (when they weren't) so often, I switched to having messages open in their own window.  I actually really have come to like this... i keep the mailboxes and message list in one monitor and then open the individual mail message mostly full screen in a 2nd monitor.  But now that leaves me without the ability to quickly go to a previous or next message from that individual mail message.  WHY???  As others have mentioned... just about every other mail client (including MAIL on iPhone!!) has buttons in the toolbar of the message window for NEXT or PREVIOUS message!!

  • Documents saved in firefox format cannot be viewed in the preview pane. Why? Also, I don't want my documents changed to another format. How do I change back?

    Documents in Firefox format do not open automatically in the preview pane. Why? Also, I don't want my documents changed from the original format. How do I change them back and how do I keep this from happening again. I don't want to have to select a different format every time I try to open a document. That is a pain in the neck. I want to "click to open" and the document be in it's original format. If necessary I will go back to one of the other browsers I have used in the past. As I don't want multiple browsers on my computer it would be necessary to uninstall Firefox. I like it so far other than you all hijacking my documents and altering the way they open. You also might want to remember that even the "legitimate" folks on the internet are seen as predatory, i.e., gathering information, tricking us into installing crap we don't want or need, and in some cases, requiring a specific program to open a specific document. I'd be working very hard to show you are trustworthy. If you have a solution to this and it is complex then you will be wasting your time and my time trying to explain it. You guys created this so, if I'm going to use Firefox, you fix it on your end. FYI, if I have to uninstall Firefox I will, when asked, strongly recommend against using your service. Thank you.

    Do you mean PDF documents?
    The installer was supposed to add Firefox as an ADDITIONAL viewer for PDFs, not as the DEFAULT viewer. Sorry you were affected by this glitch and hopefully they will figure out why some systems get changed this way.
    You can try this fix suggested by a user in another thread:
    # Open Adobe Reader / Acrobat*
    # Edit->Preferences
    # In the Categories column click 'General'
    # Near the bottom of the page click the button marked 'Select Default PDF Handler'
    # In the dialog, select 'Adobe Reader XI' (or Adobe Acrobat, as the case may be) and click 'Apply'
    # A Windows Configuration screen will appear. Allow it to do its stuff (takes a few minutes), then restart your computer when prompted.
    Does that work for you?
    ''*'' If you do not have Adobe Reader 10 or 11, you can install it from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/

  • Changing Views in Leopard Mail...2 Pane view as opposed to default?

    Does anyone know how to get Apple Mail in Leopard to have the 2 pane view as opposed to the default 3? In Tiger I had it, but I can't remember. Before Leopard all my information was in vertical columns I much prefer that view...thanks!

    Do you mean you want the preview pane gone? You can double click the little divider between the upper list and the lower preview to toggle between showing or hiding the preview area. Or you can drag it to resize it however you like.

  • Moving views and split screen (AS3 games development issue)

    How do you move the workspace dynamically using AS3 (say in a platform game where the viewable area pans around the player)?
    One suggestion was to make everything move relative to the player:
    Is there a way to group all movie clips together, without creating and iterating through an array?
    For example there could be one holder movie clip which all viewable objects (apart from the background image) are attached to.
    Each of the objects could have x and y coordinates relative to the holder movie clip.
    I don't know how to do this though.
    Is there a better way (i.e. changing the x and y offset of the workspace dynamically)?
    Say if one was to make a multiplayer game where each level is over 4000x4000 px in dimensions.
    How do you split the screen with AS3 so that each player has their own view of the level?
    Thanks in advance for any replies

    After doing some further research I found that a genius named Bryan Heisey has invented a an opensource virtual camera using actionscript 3.
    I.e. a movie clip stores a snapshot of its current position as bitmap data which it draws on to the stage.
    After hours  of painful trial and error, I've modified the Actionscript 3 version of VCam, to be contained in an external actionscript file and to support split screen mode.
    I'm not sure if I've ironed out all the glitches out yet though as my trial version has expired and I'm still waiting for delivery of the registered version .
    I'll try and have a tutorial up and running in a week or 2...

  • Marking "Read" When Viewing in Preview Pane

    Hi,
    Just upgraded to Leopard... I'm trying to find a way to set Mail so that when you just scroll through the email message list and are viewing in the Preview Pane it doesn't automatically mark the message as "Read". I don't want it to show "Read" unless I actually OPEN the message... Is there a way to do this?!
    Thanks!

    I'm disappointed that Mail on the mac has not added options to control Marking as Read When Viewing in the Preview Pane. I'm using Mail 3.6 (latest as of July 2009) on 10.5.7, and this is still not supported. I have just finished switching to a new mac from a PowerBook G4 867 which I purchased in 2002, and I moved Entourage v.X (not even 2004 or 2008) app and mailboxes over to my new macbook pro. Then I used Mail 3.6 to Import Mailboxes from Entourage. I also imported contacts to Address Book and calendar items to iCal, etc. Finally I can leave Entourage behind --> Not necessarily.
    Entourage v.X and Windows Outlook have had this feature for at least five years. Why has this feature been skipped in Mail all this time?
    Previewing a message is not the same as Reading the message. Situation one: I like to use the up/down arrows to scroll quickly through messages, and consider which are the most important. Oops, now they're all marked Read! Situation two: Occasionally I click on the wrong message. Oops - it's marked Read now.
    Simplest solution: Provide an on/off control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read - on or off
    Richer solution: Provide timer control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read After 'n' seconds: - <n>
    At least give us the Simpler boolean solution.
    I found several threads on the same topic marked as Answered/Resolved. The workaround of getting rid of the preview pane is a poor workaround compared to what has been requested though it seems to be all we have so far. Admins should close the dangling threads only after posting a note indicating why.
    TruePreview was proposed as a solution in one of the threads, but I have not tried that. If others have tried and are happy with it, please let me know.
    Thanks...Alan
