Split Track Audio Output Problem

I'm trying to make a split track audio output as one requirement of the deliverables list on my current job. Dialog goes left, music right.
But even though I set up my sequence as two track mono, and have pre-panned the tracks all the way to the left (A1) and right (A2), I seem unable to make a quicktime that will play them as discrete tracks.
Inside Premiere, they play back properly -- A1 is coming out of the left speaker, A2 out of the right. No bleed or overlap.
I'm exporting them as quicktime, 2 mono tracks, ProRes 422. But when I play back the resulting quicktime -- voila, the tracks have been re-mixed together without my consent!
I've tried Media Encoder, with the same results.
FYI, In the "Channel Layout" section I've tried clicking both "mono" and "discrete" without any improvement. I feel like the problem might be that I'm choosing "Stereo" from the "Channels" popup, but there is no option for two channels that are not in stereo. It goes from mono to stereo to 3.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. Especially if they arrive soon!  : )
(Using Premiere Pro 2014.1 on a MacPro Quad Core 2.93GHz machine with 16GB of RAM.)

i'm experiencing the same issue since today.
very loud (nearly ear damaging) glitches on crossfades on audio channel. doesn't matter if mp3, aif, or wav.
plus one channel of stereo sometimes randomly gets louder on transitions for a short time.
is still there in export. no matter if directly from premiere or via media encoder. (export as prores 422 with uncompressed audio). disabled native ppro import in AME, didn't help
cleared all media caches and preview files, didn't help.
not using preview files for export.
read alot about this bug being in older version here on the forums, but it is still there in CC 2014 v8.0.1

  • Mac mini audio output problems

This is similar to a problem that appeared before, but with a different twist.
On 4 July all was well. On 5 July I switched on and there was no "chord" from the Mac. When I collected my mail - no sound from my speakers (which are part of my screen). Logged on to a couple of sites - no sound.
The System Profiler, under the "Audio (Built In)" category, says: "No Built-in Audio." I know that's wrong because it's always worked before and when I plug my headset in it works fine.
When I go to the Sound preferences panel in System Preferences, it finds the headset but if I unplug that it finds nothing.
I tried running the hardware test (by putting in the OS X install disc and holding D during startup.) It couldn't find a problem.
So, as far as I can see, audio output is fine for the USB headset output but not for the others. Is there a simple fix? The nearest Apple store is about 200 miles away and I don't fancy the idea of posting the Mac off.
(And I think it's still under warranty for a couple more weeks.)
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

hello mini users with the "no audio output" problem
it seems that there are faulty output jacks in the macbook and the mac mini
there are two things you can try:
i tried everything and began thinking about what new software i had installed. it was "macam" which enables you to use older webcams on OSX. i needed that to use my webcam on skype.
macam installs a file called "macam.component"
if you have the same, do this - take that file out of:
    (your hard drive)/library/quicktime - macam.component
and just put it on your desktop
restart, then in your sound pref's choose your audio output (if doesn't work restart again)
the first time i took it out, i had my sound back instantly, another time i had to choose audio output in sound prefs. you kind of have to try different things. after you get your sound back, you can put back "macam.component" to use your webcam.
it seems macam causes the problem, the two can not work at the same time.
the second thing: if you dont have "maccam" try plugging and unplugging output jack a few times and restarting until you have sound.
the problem still could be with the OSX 10.4.10 update / quicktime...or maybe even a hardware problem like others with macbooks were saying (with the red light), not sure.
people with macbooks and who have the red light on, say to use a paperclip to turn off the switch inside.
my mini does not have a red light on. i tried using a paperclip but it doesnt work.
hope this helps, beleive me i feel your pain!!!!
what good is a computer without sound?
extremely annoying problem that i hope apple looks into and fixes

  • Audio output problem - using M-Audio Fasttrack

I had been using Logic Express (7.2.3) without any issues until recently plugging in a mic through my M-Audio Fasttrack.
I don't remember the exact chain of events - but at some stage, the software instrument outputs were no longer audible played either through the M-Audio, with earphones attached to its output, or through the laptop.
Even after disconnecting the Fasttrack, resetting the audio driver to 'built-in-input' and rebooting Logic Express, I still can't get any audio output from the software instruments. They aren't muted and the volume is turned up. Audio output from other programmes is working fine.
Can anyone give me any tips on how I could resolve this/suggest what I might have done to screw the audio up and what I need to do to undo it?
    Thanks,
    Antony

    this is actually really simple
i just had the same problem with my m-audio and called support
when you plug in the m-audio fast track mac automatically sets the input and output through the fast track. To fix this you need to create an aggregate device. heres how:
click the finder in your dock
    then click applications
in applications a utilities folder should appear...click that
in applications click Audio MIDI Setup
at the very top of the computer screen where it usually says what program is open it will say Audio MIDI Setup ..next to that click Audio
then click open aggregate device editor
you need to click the + to add a device
in the aggregate device screen it should say aggregate device.
below that check the option built in output
then check the option fast track (or device your using) the one that says 2 under the IN category and 0 under the OUT category.
    click done
now open logic express (reopen if already open)
    then click preferences
    audio
under device tab the device option needs to say aggregate device.
    click apply changes
    and your done!
    hope it works!

  • Split track audio glitch

    Hello all,
Just switched from FCP7 to PP 2014. A lot of my video work deals with split track delivery and post. In FCP 7 I would bring in a Pro Res file and have the left track on audio track 1 and right track on audio track 2.
In Premiere 2014, I learned how to replicate this. The problem is that when I pan track 1 all the way to the left I get major distortion on my second track. When I pan the second track (right Channel) to the right the distortion continues. We have two edit suites and I was able to replicate this on both systems.
I thought it was a Pro Res issue, but turns out that I was able to replicate this using PP's own color bar generator. I also experimented with other sequence settings like 29.97 vs. 59.94.
    Here's how to do it:
    1. In PP go File>New>Bars and Tone. Hit Ok to create this file.
    2. In the Project bin, right click on the Bars and Tone and select Modify>Audio Channels...
    3. Set number of audio tracks to "2" and Channel format to "Mono".
    4. drop into a timeline and pan track one to the left. You should hear distortion on the right or 2nd audio track. Pan the 2nd track to the right and its the same.
The odd thing is that if I pan everything to 99%  either way, all is good on both tracks.
I called Adobe and was told that they would look into this as they could not replicate this. I was told I would get a call back in 15 min. 3 hours later I am here sending this out to the community.
This is something that needs to be fixed if I am to use PP at all. Anyone else able to replicate? I am open to any ideas as I have gone through all the settings that I know of. Also, I tried turning off OpenCL with the same results.
Additional issue I found is audio level jumping up when another track comes in. I have a stereo track of music play on track 1. A little into the song I place another audio mono track on audio track 2. I pan the Stereo track to the left and Mono track to the right. When I hit play, the music is at say -12db. Once the playhead hits the mono track, the stereo track jumps up in level even though the mono track is panned to that side.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

  • Audio output problem in Mountain Lion

I just downloaded and installed Mountain Lion on my late 2008 MacBook Pro 15 inch. And I ran into a problem with the audio output of my computer. The first thing I noticed when I logged in after I installed OS X Mountain Lion was that the speaker icon in my menubar was gray, I didn't give it much though since that just means that the audio is turned to the lowest level which is mute. However later I decided to watch a video and plugged in my headphoens, when I attempted to adjust the volume using the volume keys on my keyboard the volume indicator showed up however everything was grayed out, at the bottom was a circle with a slash meaning that the output device is missing or non operational.
I had encountered similar problem before, and last time I solve the problem by repeatingly plugging in and pulling out my heaphone from the headphone jack to reset the actuator. However this time the computer clearly recognises which audio output device is present since the option in the Output panel in Sound in System Preferences switches between built in speaker and headphoen when I plug in and pull out my headphone.
I have consulted a friend of mine and he suggested me to restart my computer. I am about to attempt this however I am still open to all definitive solutions to th

I also have exactly the same problem as FiddleMonster.
I get no audio from my firewire audio interface (Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP) upon installing Mountain Lion on my iMac (Summer 2009) today. As FiddleMonster said, so far, no firewire audio is coming out. Tried to restart, plug cable off and then on again... Not working.

  • Split track audio in Premiere CS5

    Greetings all,
I'm getting acclimated to working in Premiere CS5 after years of editing on Avid Media Composer and Symphony.  There are of course similarities and differences, some of which I can figure my way through and others where I'll need to ask for help.  Here's one.
Suppose I have a piece of video that was shot split-track.  On channel 1 we have the lavaliere mic worn by an interview subject.  On channel 2 we have the on-camera mic so while searching I can hear the interviewer's questions which aren't so audible in the interviewee's mic.  In the final edit I wish to discard channel 2 and center-pan channel 1.  On an Avid the audio channels are on separate tracks on the timeline - you can literally remove the channel 1 or channel 2 audio clip and then use a pan tool to take the remaining audio clip and pan it as desired (typically center-pan is what you want with an interviewee but in fact you have infinite choices between full-left and full-right).
How do we approach this issue in Premiere?  I'm sure this has been addressed before but after a lot of searching I guess I don't know the correct search terms to find it.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
    Peter

    Thanks Colin (and Jim).
It's amazing how wedded one becomes to a particular way of working, and how unusual it feels (after nearly 20 years) to start using a different platform.
For anyone who has NOT used Avid (the Meridian and pre-Meridian versions, anyway): imported materials are literally split up into components and stored/handled separately; thus, video ends up in a video file and each audio track ends up in a separate mono .wav or .aiff file, so when they're brought into a sequence they are quite literally individual and totally independent tracks.  One major disadvantage of that generation of Avid is that materials need to be imported and reprocessed into Avid media; they don't come in natively.  Newer generations of Avid (I believe) have improved this.
Premiere's handling of native clips, where stereo audio is just that instead of individual and independent tracks, is an alien concept that takes getting used to.  Modifying the clip to treat audio channels as "mono" is exactly what I was looking for.  The "fill left" and "fill right" effects, while they would work, seem a little bit more limiting.
Thanks, incidentally, for not saying "RTFM."  I have the download of CS5 and there ISN'T a FM nor can I find pdf FMs as an additional download anywhere.  So I'm stuck with tutorials (none of which seem to cover this) and the help files (which don't cover this unless you already know the name of the function).  My oh my do I miss software suites with complete read-'em-in-the-tub printed manuals!
    Thanks again,
    Pete

  • Split Track Audio

Ever need to provide the client (networks most often) with a split track master of your show...with Stereo mix on Ch1 and Ch2, and Music and Effects on Ch 3 and Ch 4? Well, here is how you do that:
    http://proapptips.com/tips/article.php?story=20060721234257115
This really only works if you have a capture card. This will not work over firewire.
    Shane

Ah...thanks Jerry. I forgot about that. Never tried it because of the yuckiness. If you care to share how to do that (iffin you know) I will add that to the tip.
You know, I got my monitor...but the HD/SDI card wasnt' installed, and it required that the motherboard be replaced with the one supplied. So I took it to Sony and they installed it for free. Woo! But then I bring it home and connect it to my Decklink HD, and can only get an SD signal out of the card. So I move the card to the other slot and turn on the monitor and...and...nothing. No power. So, back to the shop it goes.
Man I have bad luck with equiment.

  • How do I create a split track audio recording (2 outputs)?

I am trying to create a two-output track for use with IEM and house sound (right channel with some instrument tracks to house; left channel with click & choral voices to IEM only). I don't know how to assign the output to L or R in Express. I've seen some online answers in Pro, but they don't work the same.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to have to think about instrument numbers when I'm creating music.
"Create with next" requires you to:
    1) Highlight the last used instrument (highest by number)
    2) Have another (n+1) instrument ready to go in your Environment
If you fail at step #1, you'll get a duplicate, and if you fail at #2, you'll get some other type of track entirely (maybe a bus, a master fader, etc.)
Maybe I'm old-fashioned or something, but when I want a fresh track, I just want a fresh track... I don't want to have to think about existing track numbers, or the state of the Environment That's why I use "Create" and "Create Multiple," and I haven't found much use for "Create with next."
But, hey, really, I'm glad it works for someone!

  • Audio output problems... PLEASE KILL ME?

I have an Edirol FA-66 (which I love) and I decided it was time to move beyond the 'ol "line out" computer speakers for audio, and mastering w/ headphones.
    In other words, go "legit".
But I also didn't want to have to plug, and unplug my headphones and the monitors from that same jack on the front of the FA-66, so I went shopping for some monitors that have "digital-in" and utilize the Edirol's digital-outs (plus I wanted to utilize the digital sound quality). So I plunked for the Edirol M-15 micromonitors. And they're pretty darn decent, especially for the price.
Obviously, the headphone jack is "output 1-2". So I had to crate an aggregate output using output 5-6 for the digital out to the speakers.
    And it worked! Sort of.
In Logic, obviously, I can just switch to output 1-2 to hear things through my FA-66 headphone hack, and then back to 5-6 to hear through my speakers. Not ideal, especially when dealing w/ several tracks, but at least I can choose.
But I can't hear any OTHER computer stuff through my headphones w/ this configuration, not iTunes, nada!
And when I change the output in sysprefs, or using PTH Volume to, say, "internal speaker" I get SOME audio out of that, like iTunes and web, and then the rest of my audio (alerts, etc) out of my monitors via 5-6.
And I can NEVER control my monitor volume via the system volume controls.
    ARGH!!
This is super frustrating. I'd love to have more "on the fly" control over where my sound is coming out of.
    HELP!?
    e

And, yes. I was aware of that set-up you described (aside from not having to switch the front jack) However, more importantly, I was merely trying to utilize the digital-out on the FA-66, as opposed to the 1/4"-1/8" adaptor method.
I think your way of thinking about that is right, but practically speaking that's still not how most people are doing it. The digital output on the back of the interface is really designed to go to a DAT or some other kind of digital piece of equipment, and not to monitors. Since sound has to be converted back to to an analogue signal before coming out of the speakers, it's really just a matter of whether you're asking the interface to do that conversion, or the speakers. If one has much better built components it might make a bit of a difference, but in this case I don't think it will.
If you did try to do it the way I described, I think you'll find that the signal sounds pretty much the same. And you won't have to hassle with configuring your inputs for itunes and your headphones and all that.
There are some interfaces, like the M-Audio Firewire 410, that come with little control panel software that control the Ins and Outs of the device. In that case, you can tell the device to send any signal that is coming from 1-2 of Logic or iTunes to the digital output, or to any output you want. And you can also assign the headphones out to correspond to whatever output you want. I don't think the FA66 has this, but if it does you may be able to assign 1-2 to the digital output. IF it doesn't have this option, and you are really determined to use a digital signal from the interface into your monitors but want an easy work flow, you should look into getting an interface where all of the outputs are configurable in this way. But if I were you'd I'd send the monitors through out 1-2 and be done with it!
Many small interfaces, like the Apogee Duet (which is by far the best two in, two out, portable interface on the market), don't have any digital outs at all. It just has 1/4 inch headphones out, and 1/4 inch left and right monitor outs. It sounds fantastic and many professionals, myself included, use it. So you don't need to have a digital signal from your interface to your monitors to get the very best sound.
    Good Luck!

  • After effects audio output problems (12.2.1 installed)!

I have been having some audio problems lately (last few weeks) with aftereffects.
The main problem is when I try to output audio embedded in quicktimes.
I need to export the audio first to a .wav, import it in AE and use the .wav for final rendering to movie.
    Anyone have the same problem?

I'm on Mac with OSX 10.9.2, CC 12.2.1.5.
I've been using AE for 15+ years, never ever had this problem!
So it is definitily new. I have Prores and Avid Dnxhd installed.
No other soft and it used to work before the few minor AE version updates in the last months.
When I want to export using the AIFF preset in AE it fails, when I custom preset with .wav output it works.
I need to import that file and render the comp. But then it outputs perfeclty in Prores of Avid but with random results, sometimes there is audio, sometimes not.
I have checked the filesl over and over.

  • Can MainStage split the audio outputs from a plug-in to separate busses/out

Take EXS24 or Battery 3 or Kontakt as examples
Only one plug-in instantiated but each drum 'hit' sent to separate outputs from within the plug-in/VI and brought into the mix on Audio/Aux channels for separate processing.
It's easy to set up in ProTools and Logic.
(I don't want to send the output of the channel strip to a bus - I know how to do that)
I've read the manual so many times and can't find any answers.
Does MainStage actually allow this routing ?
    Thanks for any help
    Lee

As far as I know, the only way to do what you want in MainStage is to set up an EXS24 for each output.
The EXS24 does have an option to load with multiple outputs, but I haven't found a way to make it work on my set up.

  • Audio Output problem when connected to car port

Just switched to an iPhone 4 from the 3G model. When I play any audio (music or Pandora)while connected to my car port, I get bits of noise at timed intervals coming throught the speakers. I would say it is about every 2-3 seconds I get this little added noise sample added to the audio stream. My old phone and ipod classic work great so I know it is not the car deck. The headphone mini connector produces clean audio.
    Anyone else have this?
This in addition to the other problems that seem to be inherent in this new device has me thinking about returning the phone tonight.

Well it turns out a hard reset of the phone did fix the audio. My car stereo installer told me to do that and it worked!

I have just bought a Mac Mini intel duo 1.83hz and a Hitachi plasma TV 42inch model 42PD9700.

What am I doing wrong guys?
    thanks

HDMI can carry audio, but a DVI (from the Mac mini) to HDMI cable will not carry audio, just video. So, you'll have to select a different connection. I'm a little confused by your description of the other audio-in option on the TV as "RGB" since that means Red-Green-Blue which could be an SCART video port. This review says the TV has "stereo audio inputs" which, I would guess, are a pair of red & white RCA connectors (an analog connection). You might need a mini-jack to RCA type "Y" cable to go from the Mac mini's headphone port and into the two RCA jacks. Something similar to this:
    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/187082/art/belkin/y-audio-cable-mini-jack.html
The Mac will switch to "digital out" if you plug in a digital optical audio cable with one of those adapters but that doesn't mean the TV is receiving that signal. A digital optical audio cable will not carry analog audio to an RCA jack.

  • Apple TV optical audio output problem only while watching a rented movies from iTunes.

I have our Sharp TV setup via the HDMI outputs from the Appletv and external powered speakers via the optical outputs from the appletv unit. The external speakers work fine with everything else on the appletv but not while watching rental movies from Itunes. The speakers give off a rhythmic ticking sound, no movie sounds, yet the tv does have the sound. Again, I can use the speakers for everything else from appletv. Rent a movie from ITunes and the speakers just tick. Any ideas?

Well, I have seemed to have narrowed it down. It would seem that the problem does not lie on the appletv unit. The sound works fine if "Dolby" is turned off in the appletv settings. The speakers are 5.1, should work. Thinking that the problem is the RadioShack brand converter. Converts the optical outs from the appletv to RCA.... then to the speakers. Something must be lost in "translation". Perhaps it is the quality of the cables. Don't know. Gut says the quality of the converter. Any suggestions for a perhaps better quality converter? Or should I just say screw it and just listen without the Dolby?
