SPLIT: Wake-on-LAN on the MSI K7N2G-L

Did you have any luck with that ? --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=65638.0
I'm trying to recycle my old computer having that mother. I good like to have it as a linux server but being able to wake it up from internet using WOL.
But for now I'm happy if I can only do that from the LAN.
Anyone have any idea if this is possible with this mother ?
I tried enabling all the IRQ in the power managment setup, but didn't work. The only difference was that my computer wake up at midnight everyday :P (probably at 00:00).
Any tip will be appreciated.

  • How to Enable Wake On Lan over the Internet??

Hi, I am using RV220W with the latest firmware, I want to make "Wake on LAN" work for my NAS, I found the following description on Internet:
"If you wish to use Wake On Lan over the internet you will need to set up your destination firewall/router to allow "Subnet Directed Broadcasts". Most routers and firewalls disable this option by default.
You will then need to allow traffic through on your firewall/router on a specific port. The choice of ports is up to you."
So how can I enable "Subnet Directed Broadcasts" on RV220W??
    Thanks.

    Hi Jasbryan,
If RV220W doesn't forward UDP to a broadcast address, could you ( i.e. Cisco) provide a tools for sending WOL Magic Packet to the LAN on Router Device Manager page?
I see many routers also provide this tools from their manager page.
    Thanks.

  • MSI G70 Dragon Edition 2 and wake on lan

    Hi everybody.
Does G70 laptop support wake on lan feature ?
Or how i can get wake on lan feature for this laptop.

Here I reply to myself : I think this will be useful to other people, whatever the motherboard model.
So, I just SUCCESSFULLY have been able to wake up my PC from the LAN
    Here are my conclusions :
1- There's nothing in the motherboard documentation that explicitly indicates that it's supported. But it is !
2 - I didn't need to connect the LAN card to the motherboard (didn't need any WOL connection)
3 - I have a patched Windows XP. But its standard drivers for my network card weren't enough. I had to install the updated drivers from the manufacturer (admtek).
4 - With these drivers, I could then access, from Windows devices setup tool, to the network adapter APM properties, and I could "Allow Device to Bring Computer Out of Standby".
    5. Inside the BIOS, a few things to setup :
    Power Management Features
    -> IPCA Function : Enabled
    -> Power Management / APM : Enabled
-> Set Wake Up Events ... Wake Up On PME# : Enabled
Actually, this means that there is no explicit need for a "Wake On LAN" configuration. It all goes through PME# (i.e. direct PCI) wakeup events.
    6. Then it works :-)
The excellent free tool available at
    http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/
does the job at the remote computer side (when fed with the valid MAC and IP addresses).
I'm very pleased... but I wish MSI had somehow indicated that the motherboard is WOL capable !

  • MSI 645 Ultra and "Wake On LAN" ???

    Hello,
This question is aimed at the following people :
    - Someone who owns a MSI 645-Ultra motherboard, and who has some experience about it's "Wake On LAN" capabilities,
    or,
    - Someone at MSI who knows the detailed specifications of this motherboard (related to its "Wake On LAN" capabilities).
I own a "MSI 645 Ultra" motherboard for some time now (more than a year). It's based on SIS 645 chipset.
Currently, I'm trying to make the computer boot on demand, through the LAN.
So, I have an appropriate network card : its based on Admtek AN983, it supports "Wake On LAN" (WOL), and a WOL cable was included.
About the MSI 645 Ultra motherboard, I looked at the documentation, and, surprisingly, I didn't find any mention of the WOL feature.
Too sad, this "modern" motherboard doesn't support WOL feature ??
The doc says there is support for WOR (Wake on modem Ring), and there is a WOR connector. But no WOL connector.
So, what's the status of this motherboard, regarding WOL support ??
    - Is it internally supported, without the need of a WOL connection, directly through  PCI and PME signaling ?
    - Can I use the motherboard WOR input connector, and plug the network card's WOL into it ?
    - Is all of this non sense ??
Thanks in advance for your clarifications and tips.
Technical replies are welcome (I have a solid networking background)

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (WAKE On Lan with Realtek)?

Hello can the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B) WAKE On Lan with the Realtek card?
It does not appear to work for me and there is nothing in the BIOS.
My WOL packets wake up other PC's.
    Please Help.

    Hello !
Go into Bios Setup, Integrated Periphals, and disable the nvidia Lan, but let the Onboard LAN enabled.
Now go to PCI Configuration, Wakeup Events, and enable wakeup on PCI event and wake on LAN.
Check in Boot Order Menu if you can select the realtek onboard Lan as first booting device, push it in first place.
Another Option could be using the nvidia Lan, its reported to work with wakeon lan.

  • Wake on lan

I just purchased the MSI K7N2G-L/NFORCE2 board. I noticed it said it had WOR(wake on ring), but I didn't see a WOL (wake on lan). Is it possible to hook this up?

i have not tried it but the option is listed in win xp's device manager. double click the nvidia network controller listing. goto -advanced- click on -wake on lan from power off- check to see if its enabled or not. i think its enabled by default. hope this helps.

  • Wake-on-LAN for 6712

I want to enable wake-on-LAN for the onboard LAN controller on my system, which has a KT4AV MS-6712 motherboard.
Is this possible, and if so, what BIOS settings do I require?  I have tried enabling the PME (Power Management Event) on the Integrated Peripherals page, the ACPI standby state is set to S3/STR, I have enabled USB wakeup from S3 (that doesn't seem to work either), and Wake Up On Ring and Wake Up On PME and Resume on KBC are all enabled.  The system _does_ wake on a keypress.  In Windows WP, I have enabled "Allow this device to bring the system out of standby" (or words to that effect).
I watch the lights on the Ethernet hub flicker when the other system calls, but my system doesn't wake.
    Thanks,
    Phil Atkin

Hello! This is I know a difficult question, but first things first. I'm downloading the English manual from here. What manual have you got? The quickie/mult lingual might be too quick when it comes to BIOS.

  • Wake on Lan not working properly?

So as far as i'm aware Windows 8 supports wake on lan whilst the device is either in sleep or hibernate (not completely off) and so far it works fine when in sleep mode (no randomly turning on like lots of people have been saying) but nothing happens when in hibernate. Is there any particular reason why this may be?

Qualcomm Atheros AR8162/8166/8168 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30). Set to recieve packets
and i think i've made all of the nessasary changes to BIOs and my router (Belkin) to allow WoL (seeing as it works when sleeping)

    Hallo Forumreaders,
WOL (Wake On Lan) works only through a router when it is capable to forward to broadcast LAN-IP-adres.
In my consideration only the good old BEFSR41 is capable to forward to the broadcast adres for example 192.168.1.255 (SM: 255.255.255.0)
Because there is no IP-adres in powerless PC's the "Magic Packet" (which WOL realy is) MUST be send onto your LAN by means of the broadcast-adres.
Other routers are  NOT able to sumit a adres like 192.168.1.255 in a subnet of 255.255.255.0 because they are NOT allowed to use any broadcast-adres.(they can get trouble by means of a broadcaststorm!!!)
So do not get rid of that old router you have!!
    More info;
The "Magic Packet" contains the MAC-adres of your recipient host and wil trigger the powersupply of that PC.
For Internet WOL, try http://www.dslreports.com/wakeup, submit your IP-adres of your home, your MAC-adres of your PC and klick on "Wake up".
Looking for an application for on a USB-stick, download the small tool; http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-gui.aspx
    Hope I helped,

  • Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too

  • Automatic Wake On Lan/Sleeping Arch Box?

I have my home (media) server setup that runs Arch and it does multiple things, it's the media server for all the XBMC clients in the house along with being an Apache/MySQL/CouchPotato/SickBeard/SABnzbd server. The thing is that about 50% of the time (usually between 2am and 10am and possibly during the day) it isn't really utilized and is just sitting there idle. Is there a way that I can have it go to sleep and have my router (Linksys e3200 soon to be flashed with DD-WRT or I may build one out of a Raspberry Pi) or something else automatically send a "magic packet" to wake it up whenever something tries to make a connection to it? Or would it just be easier to keep it on 24/7? I'm trying to reduce my electric bill a bit and was looking at getting a 4-bay NAS for this reason (considering the one I was looking at consumes 35w active and my pc probably consumes ~400w) but the thing is they're about $500. So in the long run it would definitely save me money but in the short run it would cost me a hell of a lot more than just leaving the pc on all the time.
    Suggestions?

For  the first part I don't really know but I imagine it can be really simple, perhaps just running a script with cron?
There's a whole section for Wake on Lan in the wiki of both Arch and DD-WRT:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wake_on_lan
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WOL
Again a script would probably do the job using the wol package. If you want to put it to sleep automatically when it's idle for a certain amount of time then checking cpu utilisation is easy:

  • Set Lenovo Wake On LAN BIOS Settings

According to http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/wmi_dtdeploymentguide.pdf, under "Set a single BIOS setting on the local computer", I have to set the property "Wake on LAN” to "Disable" in the Lenovo_SetBiosSetting instance in the root\wmi WMI namepspace to disable Wake On LAN in the BIOS.
However, there is no such property in the Lenovo_SetBiosSetting instance and creating the property WakeOnLAN in the Lenovo_SetBiosSetting instance has no effect on the Wake On LAN BIOS status.
Does anyone know how to use WMI to set the Wake On LAN BIOS status for Lenovo computers? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

Back to the memory timings, i'm planning to get 2x 256 pc 2700, so, how can i set the timings?
Pick up ddr 3200 is same price if not cheaper right now than 2700 (for your K7N2 Board)
The timings are in the Advanced Chipset Features then you will see it Memory Timings default is [By SPD] its best to leave it there but if you want to tighten them just set it to manual and go down the list adjusting them to your liking.
