Split X2 after Win 8.1 upgrade shuts down after 5 minutes and has to be hard booted to start up

This has become extremely annoying. I upgraded to Win 8.1 after I bought the X2 just before Christmas. if I leave the X2 for just a few minutes, it will either go into sleep mode or just completely shut down (no way to know which it will do and how long it will take). In any event, it has to be "hard booted", in the sleep case, holding the on/off button down until it shuts off and then restarting, in the "just off" case, just pressing the on/off button to start it again.
In either case, tons of crap regarding all of the applications - Explorer, Word, Excel, Chrome, Outlook, that had to be shut down (unexpectedly).
I did not change the power scheme and it has been reset (probably more than once) to try and correct the problem.
Thanks for anyone that can help me solve this really annoying problem.

Hi SSteveX2,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I can imagine that would be a frustrating with the random shutdowns. How long do you have it set before it goes to sleep? There are a couple of things to check. Start by running a System File Check to see if encounters any corrupt files. Another option is the using the HP Diagnostic Tools to see if it discovers any issues with your hardware. Run the System Test – Extensive Test.

  • Apps shut down after a few seconds, apps shut down after a few seconds

Hi. I have an iPhone 4S running iOS5.1.1. Since the update, all of my apps, including messeges and email, close after a few seconds. I can't send messages, or use any of the apps. I have reformatted the device several times, and also done a fresh install as a new user. I still have the same problem. Can anyone give me suggestions?

Thanks. Tried this and still not working. I can't even send a lengthy sms or email, as EVERY app shuts down after a few seconds. Sometimes it even fails to launch. The battery life is less than 4 hours, even after turning off 3G, wi-fi, bluetooth and cellular data.
It must be a hardware problem, as the phone gets extremely hot as well.
Apple are far from helpful. Their customer service is dreadful, if you live outside of the States. No telephone or email support. Time to flush the phone and buy a Samsung Galaxy 3.

  • B460 lost WiFi adaptor after Win 7 professional upgrade??

Got a new B460, WiFi once worked in Win 7 home but after upgrade to Win 7 professional, I can no longer see anything related to WiFi, i.e. when I press Fn+F5, I only see the "bluetooth" icon (hardware button on), and also under Device Manager -> Network adaptors, there's only the Gigabit Ethernet Controller.  Wired connection works fine, just that everything associated with WiFi seems to be lost.  Anyone any clue??  Anyone can help?  Appreciated very much!

let me ask that, if you don't have any disk, how come did you upgrade your operation system?
run one key theater to burn recovery disks so you can use.
or just shut down your computer and press one key recover button to perform clean windows installation.
you can download drivers from here ( check your d volume for drivers )

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with sleep or shut down after upgrade to Windows 10. Try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. Here is a document that shows how to update drivers that are not working correctly with Windows 10. HP has been working closely with Microsoft on the development of Windows 10. I hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Why it takes long time to shut down after i upgrade to OS X ver 10.8.2?

why it takes long time to shut down after i upgrade to OS X ver 10.8.2?

Can't really say, but I see this occurring on all of my Macs since the 10.8.2 update and keep reading about it at several other Mac user boards.
Bottom line: it's a general problem, but more of an inconvenience, than a serious problem. Probably will be solved with the next update.

  • IBook shuts down after upgrading from 10.3.3 to 10.3.9

Hi...I tried upgrading an old iBook G3 700 MHz from OS X 10.3.3 to 10.3.9 (combo). Now it won't finish
starting up. I press power, I do hear the chime and get to the point where the first screen with
the simple apple logo shows, but then after 5 seconds it shuts down again. I do hear the disk
    going briefly during this time.
I booted with the hardware diagnostics CD that came with the machine, and all tests passed OK
    - both the quick tests and the extended tests.
Wanted to just try reinstalling from the Panther CD set that I have, but I've found that I can't
boot from those CDs - does the same thing, shows the apple logo, then shuts down after 5 seconds.
I tried restarting in single user mode, it doesn't seem to get very far - I get the black screen, it
prints about 5 lines of information, then one line saying "Using 983 buffer headers..." and then
it shuts down. Seems like it's not getting far at all into the boot process.
Any thought's on what to try next? Wish I could just reinstall, wiping the slate clean, but even
    that doesn't work!
Thanks in advance for any help...
    - Bruce

    Success! This is so bizarre...
I have two Mac laptops, the iBook 700 MHz that's having the problem, and a newer
PowerBook G4. A few days ago I wanted to recharge the iBook...I've been very diligent
up to this point to use the correct charger with each laptop, the one that each came
    with.
I got lazy this last time...plugged the charger for the newer PowerBook into the
older iBook. Then I did the upgrade, and then I shut down the machine. It was after
that that I had problems restarting.
I got suspicious just now and looked at each charger. Thought they would be
interchangeable, but on looking at them the charger for the older iBook says output
is 24v 1.875A, while the one for the PowerBook is 24v 2.65A.
Knowing that there's a PMU (Power Management Unit) in these machines and that it
has settable parameters, I thought, what the heck, plug the correct charger back into
the iBook, just to see what happens. Voila, it started up OK!!!
    What the heck ?!?!
I'm pretty well versed in computers (work with Unix and Linux regularly, love the
Mac OS X command line!), just don't understand everything that goes on under the
hood with the Macs these days.
Just to get some final closure on this problem, can anyone explain why doing what
I did resolved the issue? I'd really like to learn from my mistakes.
Thanks to Rhonda and S.U. who responded so quickly for my plea for help!

Currently I have a deadline and this is now in crisis mode.

  • My hp dv6700 shuts down after 1 second. i recently upgraded the processor to intel t7500.

I recently tried to upgrade the processor of my HP dv6700. I upgraded to an Intel T7500 and after reassembling the laptop and trying to power it up, the laptop shuts down after 1 second. The computer turns on, the fan makes a brief noise, and then the machine shuts down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey, did you apply thermal paste to the new CPU? It may be shutting down because none of the heat it getting blown out by the fan. The thermal paste is a conductor of heat to allow it to be transferred to the copper which will get blown out of the laptop by the fan.
I also have a DV6700. May I ask how a motherboard melts down? I have had absolutely no problems with my laptop, and I've had it for 5-6 years.

  • HT4623 My iPhone 4S keeps shutting down after I upgraded to iOS7

My iPhone 4S keeps shutting down after I upgraded to iOS7

This has happend twice to me in the past 12 hours since I just updated to iOS 7.0.2, but did not happen after I updated to iOS 7
Last night the operating system crashed to the Apple symbol (a reset) when browsing the settings menu.
Perhaps it's a bug with the movement tracking? Seems to be connected with sudden movements (I noticed it shut off when I quickly lifted the phone up to look at the screen) - perhaps the background parallax is glitching the system to a software reset? If my problem persists I may temproarily disable the parallax to see if that mitigates the resets.
To be clear, the update to iOS 7 didn't precipitate this problem, and I updated to iOS & on the day of its release (9/18).
This used to happen to me sporadically on my iphone 4s on iOS6, usually when my battery was anywhere at 40% to 5% - though I suspect that was because I was due to re-set the battery by completely draining it.
Is anyone else having this issue with their iPhone 4S?
I'm using a Verizon iPhone 4s 64 GB, still in excellent condition.

Like others I've been hit with the same audio and device shutoff issues after upgrading to the latest version of the Muvo TX FM software (.22.03).
    What a fricking pain!
After reading a lot of the boards and stuff I finally was able to revert to .9.0, but not before trying everything under the sun.
Starting with a player that had nothing on it I did the following:
    - reinstalled .22.03 so I had something that my PC could copy files on to, etc...
    - using Windows Explorer, formatted the device to FAT, instead of FAT32
    - Attached device in Recovery mode (holding play button long enough while connecting to USB port, that the device came up listed as in recovery in the device manager dialog.
    - launched .9.0 install (MuVoTXFM_PCFW_LF__9_0.exe)
This time I didn't semaphore timeout and it got past allocating tables and completed the install. My tests of the device seem to indicate things are working again.
    Hope these steps help others!

  • Macbook Air 11" shuts down after few minutes running

My Macbook Air 11" from mid 2012 shuts down after few minutes running, it is a laptop with very light use. The first time this happen was trying to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, after this I read it was maybe an overheating and definitely the case was hot, after this I placed the computer right in front the AC to finish the upgrade, finally I successfully upgrade the OS but the problem continue. I bring my Mac to service and now they said it is a Video Card problem, it doesn't make to much sense for me. Can somebody let me know if this could be a Video Card problem?

At what point is the shutdown occuring? As soon as you launch the install app?
If so, I would trash the install app file, and re-download it.
First, you might try running a Repair Permissions & a Verify Disk from the Recovery Partition. It is always a good idea to do this before any major software update/upgrade.

  • Why Power Button blinks after overnight ShutDown. Restarts Shuts Down?

Funny enough, My APC shorted out from another piece of equipment that went bad. Blew my room circuit breaker as APC smoke arose. Learned lesson, 'Dedicate your APC to your Computer(s) only! Testing showed I fried my Mother board! I bought and replaced the exact Motherboard version. Ran the 'Hardware Disk' all systems nominal, reset fan speeds. Hooray! Back in business!... 10 days later, I shut the Computer down. The next morning, the Power Button was blinking erratically. Not showing normal codes! Able to start up- fans, sys, monitors fine. Then, 'click', power supply shut off. Did the usual unplug power and peripheries, pmu, batt.. Time enough to run Hardware disk to know CPU, memory, drives, fans ok... Shut Down! BEFORE I GO TO REPLACE THE POWER SUPPLY, Are their any other thing I can check, i.e. Power Management, suspect Connectors, Power Button?? ANY IDEAS? PLEASE HELP! An Intel Mac Pro will be next but the changes and upgrades will put my Studio in Gremlin ****! THANK YOU!

    >  think this is normal.  Any vaguely recent  think this is normal.  Any vaguely recent ...
Sorry - this is not normal...let me clarify....when I click 'Start' -> Shutdown -> select 'Shutdown' or 'Hibernate' from the drop down list, and press enter... It does shutdown or hibernate as appropriate, BUT IT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTS BACK UP.  This is not normal behavior.  When you shutdown, it should indeed power off and stay off, until you press the power button again.  That is normal.
The last physical contact with the computer is pressing enter on the "Shut Down Windows" window...I do not close the lid, move a mouse, or anything else...I merely watch it shut down or hibernate, and start right back up...
Please note, I have attempted to search for a solution, but I don't know the 'specific' terms to look for...as shut down or hibernate doesn't fail, it succeeds, it just 'turns back on' or 'boots back up' as if a ghost pressed the power button to turn it back on....
My advanced power settings are set to:
When I close the lid - do nothing
When I press the power button - hibernate
When I press the sleep button - sleep (I never use sleep)
I am sure the power button itself is not malfunctioning, because when I press the power button in Win XP, it indeed Hibernates, (before starting back up)  If I 'shut it off during POST' and press the power button, it comes on as normal.
    Any other guesses?
