Spliting 3d extruded text

I am working on a project that has a 3d 5 letter word. I want to split that extrusion and do various things with each individual letter. After I split the extrusion instead of spelling the word out correctly it adds an extra 2 letters. I have seen tutorials where the word is spelled correctly and no extra letters after splitting the extrusion.  I have put spaces in between each letter with the space bar and no letters are touching each other. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks,
Rchjr

R_Kelly,
Thanks for responding, I figured out what the problem was. I was adding spaces between the letters with the space bar vs. using free transform. Apparantly it does not like the spaces in between the letters used by the space bar if you want to split the text. I just happen to try it again using free transform and it worked.
Thanks again!

  • Can you extrude text in Photoshop Touch?

  • Options to make 3D (extruded) text in AE CS3

Is there a way now to create real extrusions in text/shapes in AE CS3? Or, some other way to create that affect (...where you can actually rotate around a 'real' extrusion)?
I see that AE CS3 should allow 3D objects to be imported, but haven't been able to get that working right.
Could someone outline my options for creating this effect (with brief instructions on how to do that)? Right now, all I've found is ways to import IMAGES from 3D apps (and then import the camera data). I'm just looking for a way to somehow create/import 3D text into AE, and then be able to track video footage and have the text comp'd in (tracked to it). Ya, the old 'Panic Room title sequence' effect. I figure that I may have to just track it 2D (4 point) as a 2D image, if I can't track a 3D object.
I have Cinema4D (XL v7... old) for 3D, and the CS3 production suite (AE, Illlustrator, Photoshop). I imagine there are a few routes I can take (...create 3D object in C4D, create text in Illustrator).
I'm surprised there still doesn't appear to be a way to just extrude (real 3D extrude) text or vector shapes/masks in AE. that would be a really handy feature...

There are three ways that I know of without paying for plugins. Check CreativeCow.com for tutorials. One method is to copy the text layer 50 times or whatever and change the z axis one pixel on each one. The other way involves using the shatter effects, which has built-in extrusion. The third way involves downloading a free custom effect from here:
    http://digitalcontentproducer.com/videoencodvd/revfeat/expertise_encoder_shootout_0109/
It takes a few minutes to get everything installed, but if you follow the instructions on his site, it works very nicely.

  • Extrude text help please

OS X / IIlustrator, I'm trying to recreate the extrude text in the attached , I'm having a bit of trouble in certin areas. These are the steps I have done so far
select text - white fill / black stroke
copy text / move down / transform / reflect
first problem, need to have a gradient from filler to zero opacity. Tried adding a rectangle, placing over bottom text, select gradient 12 to 6 black to white. ( I cannot get the gradient to slowly go to zero opacity ) How do I do this?

What version of AI are you using?
Transparent Gradient Stops are possible in CS4, but only that version. If you are using an older version of AI, you'll need to create opacity masks to get a gradient to fade to transparent.
As Mylenium posted, a basic blends may provide some of the basic extrude values. Or there's always the 3D effect as well. If you use the 3D effect, it's often easiest to not apply a stroke to the object first, since the stroke color will determine the extrude color. And in the "More Options" you should probably choose "No Shading" in order to get solid shapes for the extrude objects. Otherwise you'll get a great many smaller shapes to compensate for the shading. Then use Object > Expand Appearance and fill with gradients.

  • Extruded text missing faces

Trying to do a piece with plain flat san-serif text on a spiral extruding into the distance with the center of the spiral as the vanishing point. When I do this, some extruded faces are created and others do not. Usually teh curved parts of the letters get extruded but the flat surfaces (like the flats sitting on the baseline) do not. Tried both as editable test and as outlines. Same surfaces were missing.
Tested with a much simpler version - 2 lines of text with returns between them so one line was near the top of hte page ans the other near the bottom so the extrusion would use the center of the page as the vanishing point. Similar result but different surfaces were missing.
I know the CS suite is not meant to be a 3d powerhouse but I realy don't have the time (or money) to learn Maya or Blender or similar. I'm decent at Google SketchUp but importing eps outlined into the Pro version yields thousands of unconnected segments. Might as well draw the text by hand at that point...
Here's the extruded outlines - the curved parts of the letters get extruded but the flats do not:
Here's the test using just 2 plain lines of text. This extrudes more faces but lots of flats are still missing:

    Sorry for ommitting some details.
I had tried a range of Prespective from 0° to 90° and extrusion depth from 10 to 100 with no difference in what faces are created. This has been over a period of several weeks so Illustrator has been launched many times and the MacBook Pro has seen a couple of reboots.
This is on an MBPro 2.3Ghz i7 with 16Gb of RAM and MacOS 10.6.8.

  • White lines and missing colour in extruded text

hello, i know this question has be asked many time but i havent found a solution as yet. I am usinf Cs5
I am finding these white lines in t he 3d part of the text and missing colour in the text itself. This occurs when viewing in illustator itself and when saved as pdf and jpg.
I have noticed a solution has been to flatten the image or rastarize it. This does not give me the quality i want, and to me defeats the purpose of doing something in illustror cancels out the ability to resize.
I need a solution ASAP as client needs their logo

  • Spliting up stacked text with JavaScript

I am trying to get any stacked text in my illustrator file that is a single frames  such as with carriage returns such as:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    to be individual text frames.
Is there a split command I can use?
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Im thinking it would start by finding all the textframes that have carriage returns
is the carriage return identified as "\n"
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Duane

I got this awesome code from John Wundes. It would crash illustrator if you had more than one textframe selected. With my modifications it still will not do more than one textFrame with carriage returns.
It runs through the first time looking for textFrames with carriage returns  in my file and when it finds one it goes into the if statement(which is all of John Wundes code.)
But when it finishes with the first textFrame with carriage returns it keeps the first line of text selected and quits when moving on to the second textFrame with carriage returns. Does anyone know why it quits
    //Divide TextFrame v.2.1 -- CS,CS2,CS3,CS4,CS5

// Divides a multiline text field into separate textFrame objects.
// Basically, each line in the selected text object
// becomes it's own textFrame. Vertical Spacing of each new line is based on leading.
// This is the opposite of my "Join TextFrames" scripts which
// takes multiple lines and stitchs them back together into the same object.
// New in 2.1 now right and center justification is kept.

  • 3D Text with Repoussé in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended | CSInsider | Design | Adobe TV

In this episode of CSInsider, Rufus Deuchler, Worldwide Design Evangelist at Adobe, introduces you to how easily you can extrude text in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended to create fully fledged 3D objects. These 3D objects can then be rendered using Photoshop's own Raytracing engine, including cast shadows. This feature lets you add a 3D flair to your 2D images.

When I go into either CS 5.5 extended, the 3d features are ALL greyed out??? What is wrong?

  • Embedding 3D text in Photoshop CS6?

I was wanting to create an image of text embedded in a metal block. Is there any way to use the 3D tools in Photoshop CS6 to create this kind of effect ? I've only been able to extrude text 'up' ( if you know what I mean ! ) rather than down into a negative space. Any help gratefully appreciated !

I wouldn't use the 3D tools to do this.  I'd use the Bevel emboss layer style on the text layer, with Direction set to Down, and set the layer's fill to zero.

  • How to mask circular or cylindrical 3D text with geometry & material options?

Hello, guys, I am back to trying to rotate that text around that planet in After Effects CS6.
I am making one basic assumption — please correct me if I am wrong. (I'm sure you will !) I understand that I cannot have two 3D objects (or in this case, two 2D objects with 3d effects applied) in the same "scene" (as it is called in Photoshop.) In other words, I cannot have the planet and the orbiting text in the same layer, so that the planet naturally masks out the back side of the orbiting text. I am limited to having the planet on one layer and the text on another, correct?
My goal: to make some shiny, reflective, extruded text, make it goaround in a circle with the text on the back side of the circle masked out so that the orbiting text appears to be disappearing behind the planet.
OK, given that the above assumption is correct, I can see two ways to do this, but (so far as I can tell) each method seems to have its advantages and disadvantages:
    1. I can apply the CC Cylinder effect to my text.
    PROS:
    - This effect has a very handy option to render the full cyclinder or just the outside or inside. I chose outside as I want the text to appear to rotate across the front of the planet.
    - I can add a mask to hide some of the remaining visible text when needed.
    - Some built-in lighting controls.
    CON:
    - No material options so I cannot add an environment layer to get those cool reflections that are really going to impress the client. (Yes, I am using the Ray-Traced 3D Renderer.)
    2. I can apply the 3D Rotate Around Circle Animation Preset to my text.
PRO: - I have material and geometry options to make the cool reflections.
    CON:
    - No "Render Outside" option and I understand you cannot add a mask to a Ray-Traced Layer. (Correct?) I suppose I could render those 6 seconds to video and then mask that footage layer, but when the front text is right in front of the back text, it would be a really complex mask to have to make.
Here is what I am talking about:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9FcD-bx-sg&feature=plcp
That boring flat white text that looks like it was cut out of paper is what I am trying to replace with something snazzier.
Any ideas, suggestions? Is there some other way to achieve this goal that i just don't know about yet?
I am using the latest version of After Effects CS6 on a 27" iMac, running OSX7.4.
    Thanks!

    hey carol.
i think the solution that would give you both the results you want and would still be relatively simple to pull off would be to use AE's text tool with the preset you mentioned, and add an animator to the text, controlling the opacity of of the layers.
just synchronize the range selector of that animator to the rotation of the sentence, so that it would make letters fade in quickly coming around the curve, and fade out going back.
if you absolutely must have that splitting of "inside" and "outside", you can try to intersect a white copy of the 3D letters with a black solid along the same plane as the globe is, resulting in a white image of only the front letters, which you can use as a luma matte.
(you would probably also want to condense the alpha of the white letters before the intersection or you'll damage the edges of your letters after you apply the luma matte)

  • Blur animator applied to text is not working

I have some extruded text that I'm trying to blur on.  I've created an opacity animator and added blur, taking the blur up to 300.  But I'm not seeing the blur effect at all.  Is the Ray Tracing render not supporting blur?  Or is there another setting that I've missed?

It can't exactly trace a blurred line. You can make extruded letters blur though. You just have to precompose and blur the letters in other ways.

  • 3d text material settings

finally decided to start extruding text so im slowly learning the ropes.  have a simple phone number i extruded for a logo and have a reddish front with white sides.  trying to figure out how to make the front a glossy kinda reflective surface.
is there a place where i can cheat and get the material settings for this?

    Sadly,
I have a copy of Microsoft Office for the Mac on my Mac's in addition to iWork.  Microsoft supports 3D text and many other graphical editing features that iWork does not.  I find myself switching between Keynote and PowerPoint constantly doing things in PowerPoint them copy and pasting them into Keynote (which I prefer for layout and presentation).  In addition to features like 3D text, I also love MS/Office's image library with its thousands of clipart images and photos all licensed for use in presentations, articles, and on web sites.
It is really funny that I find myself using Pages and Word, Keynote and Powerpoint, and even Numbers and Excel to build my final products.  I bought Photoshop but have never mastered the complexities of the product to produce graphic designs and text layouts.  Photoshop was an expensive mistake for me.  Awesome product but way too complex for me to learn.

  • Pixelated/fuzzy 3D text After Effects

I'm working in After Effects CC and I keep having issues with my 3D extruded text becoming fuzzy and pixelated when it is far away from the camera.
I have tried multiple ray trace settings from a quality of 3 to a quality of 12, but nothing seems to imporve the issue on final export. I've also changed around my anti-aliasing filter from box to cubic and that did not improve the issue either. Is there a font smoothing or quality control setting that I am missing? Or perhaps something elese entirely?
I'm attaching a few screenshots to give you a better idea of what the issues is, but unfortunately I think the screen shots are pretty lo-res.
The fuzziness is particularly apparent around the edges of the bevel.
    Thank you for your thoughts!

The screenshots make it difficult to tell anything, sorry. I uploaded a snippet of the video to youtube to better convey the issue. If you put the video on 1080 and make it full screen, you should notice a distinct fuzziness around the edges of the text.
    Video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhW1zhujWTk&feature=youtu.be
What I mean by "far away" is that within the clip, the text flys past the camera and then settles in the screen -- giving it the perception of depth. Hopefully that clears some of the confusion up.
