Spliting DVD in to two chapters

Hi all
I have just done my first iDVD prodjet, which was my daughters prom. I wanted to make a DVD of about 107 digital photos. All went well in doing the design and burning the DVD. Problems started when we noticed an error in some spellings. I changed the error and re-burnt the DVD - DVD+RW, 4.7GB DVD - no problem at that point, either playing via a TV, Windows Laptop or my iMac. Started to go all wrong when I had to re-burn the DVD again, due to another spelling error. This time when we went to view it, it had split the images in to 2 chapters. The first has 99 images in it and the second chapter has the other 8 images.
What has gone wrong. The only change I have made in the settings is that the audio fades out at the end of the DVD.
Any help will do...........

Lee Harris

Hi Sue
I tryed that.....but its still the same. What I should have said in my first post is that I have two Titles. Title One is split into 99 Chapters and Title Two is split into 6 Chapters.
When played via a DVD player & TV it gets to Title 1/ Chapter 99 then hickup's into Title 2 / Chapter 1. It's the same when played on my iMac. When played via Windows Media Player v10 it halts at Title 1/ Chapter 99
So is it something I have to put up with or am I missing something......

Hi, please help me When I render my project in IDVD, video and audio runs properly, but when I burn it in professional quality and burning is finished there was no audio on the last two chapters, one audio is attached to the clip and the other one is from itunes, pls help

    Hi
    My first two thoughts
    • Shared to Media Browser - BUT as Large or HD - try Medium !
    • audio from iTunes - use to go silent
    - in iTunes
    - Create a new PlayList with needed audio
    - BURN this as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
    - use the files on this CD in Your Movie project - I ALWAYS DO - and only use .aiff ever - never .mp3'
    My notes on this:
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Search not going beyond first two "chapters".

I bought "Leonard Maltin's 2014 Movie Guide" instead of a book because I thought that I'd be able to quickly search for entries. I grabbed the sample book, which had the "A" and "B" entries (which are after the intros, the first two chapters). I was able to search all the text in those chapters, so I decided to buy the full version of the book.
But now when I search, I am only able to search through the "A" and "B" chapters and nothing beyond. I've deleted the local copy and redownloaded the book from iCloud, but with the same results. When grabbing this book on my iPhone, I am able to search through the whole book.
I get the feeling that search is only using the sample book to search from, and this is really hindering the usefulness of a digital versoin of this book.
Is there a way to reindex the book for searching? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I like the idea, but how do I get the book off of the phone? I've deleted the book on the Mac, and I've synced in my phone to the Mac. But it doesn't appear to have pulled over the book onto the Mac. I can see the book on the "On This Phone" tab in iTunes, but it's greyed out and I'm unable to control it.
Any ideas for the best way to move it?
    Thanks!

  • 2 hour DVD with 2 different chapters?

I've never tried this, but I'm wondering if I can create with iDVD 5 a 2 hour DVD with two different movies in it? Essentially, I shot two dance shows and in order to save money, I'm hoping to fuse the two into one DVD whereby viewers can select Show A or Show B and get what will probably be 15 chapters for each show.
The longest iDVD DVD that I've created so far was about 90 minutes, and the quality appeared okay, but I'm wondering what a slightly over 2 hour video might look like.
I have Pogue's Missing Manual for iMovie and iDVD and I'll research the question there, but I'm wanting to get feedback from those who have tried it.
Any suggestions for how to get this project done if it's indeed possible to do so?
    Thanks

Yeah, I need to get Studio Pro eventually. It would be nice to have more custom made wedding DVDs rather than the standard ones I've been using with iDVD.
I was just reviewing Pogue's book on another matter and realized that I can archive a project as a disk image rather than archiving the entire project which creates a huge file. Without thinking, I always thought the disk image was still referencing the source files. (silly me). Now I can create more space in my external drives and still make copies of DVDs when my clients call me months later wanting another copy. Wow, learn something new everyday.

  • DVD player has two control windows, can't press any buttons.

The internal disk drive on my Late 2009 Mac mini has been non-functional for longer than I've had it. However, I've never really needed it until recently. But when I tried using my new external drive (which runs perfectly and is most certainly not the source of the problem) I encounter one of the strangest glitches I've ever had using Macs!
The DVD player uses the old (brushed metal, 10.6-style) control panel in the bottom-right corner... Until I turn on full-screen. Then the GUI changes to a glazed black appearance (10.7-style) and all of the controls are unresponsive. The features can be triggered by the hotkeys (space bar to play/pause, etc.) but none of the actual buttons can be clicked on. The interface still fades in and out with mouse movement though.
But it starts getting really strange when I exit fullscreen again. Now the brushed metal interface has odd white corners as if the alpha channel is being ignored! https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14403620/brokeninterface.tiff And what's more, though I was unable to reproduce this after a few attempts, once it actually brought the normal control window into fullscreen! There were then two contol interfaces, neither of them could be pressed (though the normal one works outside of fullscreen) and the normal one could still be dragged around the screen yet wouldn't fade away when idle!
Now please note that I am running OS-X 10.7.5 upgraded from 10.6 in the past and the DVD player may not have been original to this computer. I am also using SIMBL and Maximizer and have both Quicktime 7 and Quicktime X installed.
There are thus many things which could be causing the issue, but I have no idea what actually is.
Any insight would be appreciated. I can provide more information if nessesary.

    Stan -
Thanks again for the simple but valuable tip.
I'm just going to repeat the relevant sections from my previous post with the screenshots this time:
Below you'll see a snip of how my current folder structure appears. It's identical to yours, except there are no button files in the General Folder. Since you were kind enough to include a file name, I did a search on that specific one and it's nowhere to be found on my hard drive. Hmmm....
I've seen others remark on how... "challenging".... Adobe's instructions can be sometime. I'll admit to having the same feeling when I was trying to download and install all the content files and the 7-zip stuff. Is the answer somehow that I screwed up that?  Note the 7-zip folder right above the Adobe folder. Here's a screen shot of that expanded folder contents:
Does that look like you think it should? Have I not installed or extracted something correctly?
Finally, the only other thing I can think of to give you as much info as you might need is to include a screenshot of where the "Functional Content" stuff got saved. Adobe's instructions about this (if I recall correctly) were that it did NOT have to be installed anywhere specific, but you then had to go into Encore (& Premiere) and through preferences point to this stuff, which I believe I did. But I don't see any button type files in these anyway.
    Other thoughts or advice?
    Thanks!

  • Mastering a DVD-9 to two DVD-Rs

    Hi everyone,
I've seen folks on this forum speak of mastering Layer 0 to one DVD-R, and Layer 1 to another DVD-R, as a way of delivering a DVD-9 project to a duplicator in lieu of a DLT. However, the DVDSP4 manual evinces no technical description of how to do this. When formatting through DVDSP4, it doesn't seem to be an option. Can someone point me in the right direction, in a timely fashion if possible (I just got the ubiquitous "We can't load your DLT masters" message from my client's duplicator this morning -- yikes!).
Thanks in advance for your help --
    Jerome

I believe that the data would survive on an ISO 9660 DVD, if you can make such a thing. Otherwise Mac/PC format should work. You could talk to the replicator, and maybe for peace of mind make the two folders into zip archives, and put those on the DVD-R.
The one time I had to do this was a similar situation, the replicator complained about the DLT. We had done DLT because the disc used CSS encoding, not because it was double layer. I'm not sure about those other settings you talked about, but I know that CSS survives the trip via a layer0 folder.
As I've only had to do this one one shipped disc, it may be worth waiting hear other opinions here too.

  • DVD - no audio, 2 chapters blank

I am having trouble creating a DVD from a 80 minute video with five chapters edited on Final Cut Express. I have crated many others without trouble. The first time, about a minute into chapter 4, the video broke up, then froze, but audio continued. Chapter 5 was fine. I reexamined the original video, downloaded a minute of it where the breakup occurred, and made a test DVD. It was fine. I reedited the chapter 4 with freshly downloaded video. Previewed on IDVD, no problem. Created a new DVD. There is no audio on any of it and Chapters 4 and 5 are blank. There were no error messages. What did I do wrong?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to the forums, Poppa.
It is possible that the original problem wasn´t anything other than errors when burning the DVD. These can occur from DVD media problems (I like Sony, but Verbatim is highly recommended), and they also can occur because your burning speed is too high (burn a disk image, and then use Roxio Toast or Apple´s Disk Utility to slow the burn speed to 1x or 2x).

    Hello all,

  • DVD Menu with Two or More Highlights per Button

I have created a DVD Main Menu in Photoshop CS4 Extended for Premiere Elements 4 as well as editing an existing Premiere Elements 4 DVD Main Menu in Photoshop Elements 6 and run into the same following highlighting problem:
The design of each menu button is such that there is in its Group:
    a. the (%) video for the thumbnail of the video (4:3 solid color block)
    b. frame to go around the thumbnail
    c. Text to go under the framed thumbnail
When I roll the cursor over the button, I want the frame as well as the text to be highlighted. I can achieve one or the other, but not both. I use (=1) for the Text highlight and (=2) for the frame frame, but, no matter what combination or arrangement of layers/layer sets/codes, the result is the same, one or the other (using =1), but not both (using =1 and =2).
Although an Encore DVD Menu creation tutorial suggests that the code species (=2) exists, I have yet to find an existing Premiere Elements 4 DVD Menu where both the frame and the text underneath the frame is highlighted at the same time when the cursor is rolled over the button (showing the =1 and =2 codes or anything else)
I would appreciate any comments on whether I am looking for something that is not possible OR whether I have just not figured out the how to answer.

    Hunt,
When you create your DVD menus with Photoshop and Encore as described, can these menus be loaded into Premiere Elements 4 or any other version of Premiere Elements and do these menus work in Premiere Elements 4 or any other version of Premiere Elements?
If I cannot go the (=2) highlight route, I have thought about creating a text layer (for the title under the thumbnail), simplifying (rasterizing it), then adding a the frame to that layer, and then coding the layer (=1) highlight. But, I have not done that yet.
    SG
Did you really mean ...., named (%) Highlight....in your suggestions or did you mean (=1). I have been through all the how tos and have a good handle on the conventions, except for this one point.
Thank you both. In the final analysis, at this point it is more a "why can't I" instead of "I have to have that dual highlight" to make the effect work. Thank you both for your inputs and am heading back to the programs to explore your helpful suggestions.

  • Burning DVD Without Themes and Chapters

I have an iMovie from my own video that I have edited just the way I want it. It has a title and will be about an hour long when burned. I just want to burn it to a DVD for TV viewing WITHOUT any theme or chapter stuff. iDVD won't seem to let me do that and has already screwed me up twice in the process. How can I bypass that theme and chapter stuff and just burn my DVD? I would like the instant play feature on the disc when it is done.
    I have iMovie 6 and a MacBook.
    Thanks for any help,
    videolou

    Hello videolou,
here's how to create a DVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme"by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    3. Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just un-check the appropriate check box. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software
    4. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

  • Spliting hairs on rules for chapters

It would be OK to put a chapter marker at the beginning of a clip, as long as there is no transition from the previous clip--that is, a marker is OK right after a direct cut.
If you are trying to start a chapter playing at the beginning of a clip with a title, if the title is five sec, then the marker could be at 2.5 sec, even if there is a transition in and out of the title. Or is a title treated like a transition, with no markers allowed? Or would you have to lengthen the title to account for the overlap of the transitions in and out, meaning you have to have about a 7 sec title with the marker at 3.5 sec, if you can have a marker within a title.....
    Thanks! Dale

  • Chapters in DVD not corresponding to correct marker

    Hi-
Used FCEHD to create 55 minute movie with about 20 markers, 10 of which are chapter markers.
Used iDVD5 to create a dvd.
Preview is OK - correctly shows the menu & each of the chapters.
Created disk image to burn to a dvd disk later. When I play the disk image (to make sure all is AOK before burning), the chapters are "off" by 1 marker. In other words, selecting chapter 2 takes me to the spot in the dvd that is marked by chapter 1. Selecting chapter 3 takes me to the chapter 2 spot, etc. The only one that is OK is chapter 1 - it takes me right to the chapter 1 marker. My 1st marker is at 1.01 (1 second, 1 frame) into movie. No markers are "close" to each other. Any ideas what may be happening & how I can correct it? Thanks!

Why do you have 20 markers when there are only 10 actual chapter markers? iDVD will not recognise the other markers, but could potentially be confused by them.
First off, all movies by default have 2 chapter markers, whether you set them or not. One at the very beginning of the movie, and one at the very end of the movie. You will never see the last chapter marker in a menu, but you will always see the first chapter marker (if additional markers exist).
The rule is that you cannot place a marker within 1 second of another marker... meaning that if all movies have a marker at 0:00:00:00 by default, your next marker cannot be within 1 second of that. Same is true for the very end of your movie. Ideally you would not place any marker yourself at the beginning or end of your movie, they are generated automatically. So say if you want a chapter marker at 5 minutes in, that should be the first marker that you set. Then if you send that over to iDVD, you should have two chapters, one at the very beginning of the clip, and another at 5 minutes.
If you don't want a chapter marker at the very beginning of your movie, delete that chapter marker from the iDVD menu, then your first chapter would start at 5 minutes in. The chapter marker still exists at 0:00:00:00, you just have deleted the link to it within the iDVD menu. You cannot replace the link once you have removed it without deleting the movie from iDVD and reimporting it.
So basically remember that there will always be a chapter marker at the beginning of the movie whether you create it or not.

  • Making a DVD with chapters

I'm making a DVD on iDVD with chapters but it won't play all the way through unless it comes back to the menu. I could do it on DVD Pro but it doesn't have the theme I am using on iDVD and it won't let me import it either. iDVD let me make scenes or chapters but not where it supposed to be. How can I change that?
    Thoughts anyone?

  • How can I Burn a Simple DVD with Chapters and Menus out of My Home Videos.

I created an iMovie (unsig iMovie 10.0.2) of my daughter's volleyball season.  I inserted markers separating each game day, hoping these would create chapters in my DVD.  Then I did some research about DVD burning apps and finally downloaded BURN.  With Burn I created a DVD, but this DVD did not have chapters and also did not have a customizable menu.  The whole movie ended up as one 2 hour long chapter.
I have hundresd of family vacation on a hard drive stored and would like to start making iMovies of them to put on DVD for easy watching and forbackup  storing.
What is a simple way I can burn my iMovie with chapters onto a DVD?
My macbook pro did not come with iDVD so I dont have it.
    Thanks.

MY source is HD i beleive. I shot videos with an iPad Mini.
I ventured into this because I offered this DVD to several team parents, so they are waiting for me to give them the DVD.  While I was making it, I added subtitles, showing the game dates, game scores and stats of each player, so it came out really nice.  However, not to concern about quality, i have burt the video in a dual layer dvd in SD.  I dont have a blue ray burner nor media.
This made me want to do the same with my family vacations vieeos, whic now are a bunch of files in a hard drive, sort them by vacation and add titles like lications to actualy be abel to watch them on a dvd someday.
I have apple tv in the family room, but do not use to watch these videos, will look into that. However, I would still want to make the DVD's.
It seems odd how this, basic feature, has been dropped. I guess apple does not want us to use any more discs.
Still hoping I can do this, if not, I will have to gie away the DVDs with the 2 hour long video in a single chapter.
