Splitting a graphic

Hi there!
I'm using Illustrator CS3, trying to split a vector graphic so that it can be cut on vinyl. (The logo is too large to fit on the vinyl, so it has to be split in two pieces.)
Is there a fast way to split it straight across in a horizontal line? The artwork (I didn't create it) is made up of several layers, all filled shapes.
I was trying to divide the paths individually along a guide using the eraser and then joining the ends with the pen tool, but I haven't had any success with thatit still shows the entire graphic being one piece.
I hope that made sense... if anyone can help me out in any way, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks so much!
Deborah

Deborah,
If the artwork is properly built for vinyl
cutting, then it should already consist entirely of closed, filled paths (no strokes).
To cut that, you can simply:
1. Unlock all layers.
2. Select all.
3. Knife Tool: Press Alt (Ctrl on Mac) and Shift, drag across the artwork.
But if you are not doing the vinyl cutting yourself, you should talk to the sign shop. Some vinyl cutting software can automatically divide the cutting paths to fit the width of the vinyl.
Also, in vinyl assembly, where different colors abut, and where large same-colored pieces have to be pieced, it is often beneficial to provide a small amount of overlap to make assembly easier, and to prevent unwanted "slivers" appearing when the substrate stretches or expands. (Same principle as building traps in print.)
Everyone: this kind of work, by the way, is one of many kinds of common projects which are hugely facilitated by FreeHand's muliple and indpendently-sized page capability (and better cutting tool).

  • Re: Split Text/Graphics in Illustrator

Okay. Back again after a while. So, I've used this split method using the blend tool once since I originally asked this question to do a logo. Now I'm wondering how you can make it work with more complex letterforms. Eg: R, B, A, etc
If you see below, I have an example of what I'm talking about. It's super easy to do the "I" and "S" but not so much for the "R" or similar letter forms. See also the example of the logo for a Forum I read often (FPO: http://www.underconsideration.com/fpo/) - Now in their logo, the letterforms of "F" and "P" are easy enough to create, but you'd have to draw it by hand for the "F" and do the "P" in parts as opposed to using the blend tool method ... from what I understand.
Any tricks, suggestions on getting an exact split line for the more complex letter forms? thanks in advance.

Gday. Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask. I have really no idea what all that stuff means for amps etc. so I have no idea if my PSU is actually capable of running my MSI 560 Ti. This is my power supply. Is it enough to handle the card? System specs:

  • How do I measure the CPU/GPU split of load/usage in Java3D?

    Hello,
Is it possible to measure the split between graphics and CPU usage to find out how much work each is doing, what work is done, and which is doing the most work, for example? If so, how can this be implemented in the Java3D code?
For example, on a particular system, measure whether the GPU is doing the most work, or the CPU.
    Thanks for your help :)

In Linux, you can read /proc/uptime. It does NOT give you the load averages that the command uptime gives. It gives you numerically the amount of time the CPU was idle vs how much time it was spent doing something. You need to read these two floating point numbers one every second, or once every 5 or 10 seconds then do the delta on the change: The maths are as follows:
Read the file in twice in 5 seconds, parse into two floats/doubles:
double[] last;  // the first read of the file
double[] rect;  // the latest read of the file
    double ld = last[1] - last[0];
    double rd = rect[1] - rect[0];
double cpu = (1.0d-(rd/ld)) * 100.0d;This should print the CPU percentage in Linux for that given time frame (5 second updates).

  • Printing graphics object in Landscape or portrait mode

    Hello,
I have a graphics 2d object (a Tree Diagram) which is inside a JScrollPane, and the JSCrollPane is on a JPanel. it's length and width is more than one page. I am using a printable object to print the object. The task I need to do is,
(1). compress the width and length of the diagram, so that if can fit into one page, else split the diagram into pages, so that each part of it can be printed on different pages(page size A4) and then later those pages can be merged accordingly.
I am not able to find, how to split the graphic object(the tree diagram into pages), shoul d I try doing it using x and y co ordinate of the graphic object.

  • Java mapping in ccBPM works in PI 7.0 but fails in PI 7.1

    Hi guys,
at the moment we are upgrading form SAP PI 7.0 to SAP PI 7.11.
In a scenario for processing of incoming orders we use an ccBPM.
In this ccBPM there is an mapping where the original xml document of the order are combined with some
additional information form an web service (multi mapping 2 => 1)
The result of this mapping is processed further to create an sales order in the backend.
The multi mapping an java mapping is used.
Now we are testing the scenario with PI 7.11 and it fails at this mapping step.
in the workflow log following error occurs.
An exception with the type CX_ST_MATCH_ELEMENT occ urred, but was neither handled locally, nor de
    Message no. W8899
I tested the same message on out SAP PI 7.0 system and the whole ccBPM works well.
When I extract the 2 messages from workflow log and paste them into the test tab of the operation mapping of Enterprise Service Builder of SAP PI 7.11, surrounding by the envelope used by multi mappings

the mapping works without error, but at runtime it fails, throwing the error mentioned above.
What could be the reason for this error?
Does the multi mapping change in PI 7.11 at runtime?
Could it be a problem parsing the multi message?
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Raja,
    thanks for your suggest.
I know this issue, the java class files are compiled using jdk 1.5.
    We made some more tests.
e.g. created an dummy ccBPM with two mappings, one two spilt the incoming message in two messages (graphical message mapping) and one to merge this two messages to one message again (java mapping)
the mapping works at design time on test tab, but fails with the same error at rumtime.
Also we tested one single operation mapping with this two mappings (split via graphical mapping and merge via java mapping)
This works also at design time but fails at runtime with a similar error shown in smq2
The error message is Error ST_MATCH_FAIL occured. P1=element-start P2=M
we tried to add the whole incoming message to the trace by
    getTrace().addWarning()
but an trace object is never created in for this step in the workflow log.
it seem whether you can not add trace messages using the command or that the error occures before this command will be used.
    Kind regards

  • Pdf files print with horizontal and vertical lines

All of a sudden, today, when I print pdf files, they print with horizontal and vertical lines.  I thaught it was the computer or printer. So I printed from another computer on the network, and printed to a different printer with the same result.  It is not just that one pdf file either, I have tried multiple files.  HELP.  Does anyone have any ideas?

It is not clear how you are creating the files. It appears that they were created by Distiller from PS files that were created in some way. I also noted that you are using AA8.1.0. You may want to try to update (do all the updates in order) as a possible fix. It may be in the creation process also. Several packages will split large graphics into parts and create the image. I think this is a characteristic of OFFICE 2007 (docx) files - but I am not sure yet. Tell us how you created the files - step by step, including the scan.
If you have the original documents, why not simply print to the Adobe PDF printer. The result would be smaller and a lot cleaner.

  • Do pdf files print differently?

Why did a scanned file print on only 1/4 of the page?

  • Message restrictions

    Hi Y'all,
I have been going through the weblogs for splitting the messages at the message mapping level either by using context or by using the nulti mapping techniques. Also I hear that there is a restriction of not able to use these for Integration Engine based adapters. Is this a true statement if my receiver is a HTTP/Idoc adapter? Or this restriction is only for sender adapters?

    Hi,
<i>by using the message split using graphical mapping and the proxies get to process as indivigual messages.</i>
    >>>Concept of Message split is somewhat different.
If you want to process for e.g all 10 records into 10 different messages, one by one, then you need to use loop with BPM. If so, the use of proxy will not make any difference in your design. So If i suggest, I will go for Proxy with I will send all 10 records in one time with Message structure i.e One root node and inside the proxy , if you want to send the data one by one some tables or wherever, you can build this logic inside the proxy method.
Just I thought to give some hints..

  • Trouble converting PowerPoint 2007 to PDF file

In the past I used Adobe Acrobat 8 to convert my PowerPoint 2003 files to PDF files and it always decreased the file size of my document. I now have PowerPoint 2007 and I tried to convert a PPT file to a PDF file and it made my document about 5 times larger than it originally was! I have no idea how to fix this. Also, I am wondering if this is an issue for converting Word 2007 documents to PDF as well. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

It may depend on the contents of the PPT. I find that the size is typically 3 times smaller for the limited cases I have done. There are some other issues that I ran into with the way that PPT wouls split the graphics into parts when creating the PDF. It did not happen with OFFICE 2003. If you could post an example of a PDF, it might help. Bill

  • Having major  trouble with tiling

Ok I have a graphic that is on 2 sheets (combined make 11x17). Very simple graphic that I want to print. In my mind it should just print what is on aheet 1 on page 1 and sheet 2 on page 2. This isn`t the case persay. It is cuttin off I`d assume the bleed portion though I set up a bleed of 0. I was going to split my image and drag each to fit inside the sheets 'safe zones' but can`t find a way to split a graphic or text box in 2. I tried tiling and for something so simple its printing out like 6 pages and dividing the image all over the place when it should fit perfectly fine on 2 8.5 x 11 pages. I could use some help here. All i want is it to print on 2 pages so i can line them up and glue them together.

My guess from the description is that you have a spread and one image frame crossing the gutter, and that when you print the area in the middle is missing because the printer can't print all the way to the edge of the page. I get the sense that you've used an 11 x 17 frame and want to print to two 8.5 x 11 pages.
If the image is wide enough that each half won't actually fit in the printable area of a letter size sheet, there is no way, no matter how you do the tiling, to make this happen with only two sheets of paper.
Normally, tiling is done with some overlap on the joining edges, to make pasteup easier, which requires even more paper.
Since it isn't clear whether you are trying to put this into a booklet of some sort, or just trying to tile a poster or something similar, it's hard to say what to do, but if it's the poster, just set the printer to tile automatically and let it generate as many sheets as required.
The only reason to want to tile manually, in my opinion is to control the splices so you don't wind up with a seam in a critical place like someone's face. You do that by resetting the ruler zero point to the upper left corner of each tile and printing one at a time -- a real pain.
You can "split a graphic" in two by placing two copies on top of each other, then cropping in opposite directions, but that won't work with a text frame directly. You can, however, copy the text frame and "paste into" another frame to treat it like an image and use the same technique of cropping two copies in opposite directions. Tiling text can be a real exercise in frustration to get it aligned properly, so I'd rethink the design if possible.

  • Handwritten pdf classnotes

My professor handwrites class notes then sends them out as pdfs.
I use to be able to edit by cutting and pasting  separate  words to rearrange on the page
and add space to separate out lines .
cant seem to do it on this newer version i have (2008)

What OS and what new version (like 11.0.06?)? Such editing in Acrobat is not generally done. It might be you could run OCR in ClearScan mode to split the graphic up and then move them around (assuming a split is done), but normally scanned notes (like a lot of scanning printers do) are simply full page graphics. If OCR is not done, then full page graphics is all that you have and they can not be edited with Acrobat. Even with OCR, you may still only have full page graphics (have to try it to see). All you would be able to do is add annotations. Another possibility is to use the Snapshot tool to extract part and start another PDF (or other type document) and include the extraction.
If you are doing something else, please provide the details of what you are trying to do (or did in the past) -- the how and such. An example of a PDF would be useful to post some place for us to see (try Acrobat.com or Dropbox).

  • How do I split a large wall graphic on Illustrator into sections for printing?

I work in marketing and occasionally have to put together graphics on Illustrator.
I am currently putting together a large wall graphic for an exhibition and want to find out how to split it into sections for printing. It has a total length of 5757mm but will need to be split into 6 panels (4x 980mm, 1x 841mm & 1x 996mm)
It would be best for me to design this as one large graphic and then split it, however I'm not sure of the best way to do this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Louise,
There is just room enough for the whole artwork in 1:1 within the Workspace.
You may create it as one entity, then create Artboards for each panel, but the exact way depends on a few things such as whether you are working with overlaps and whether the printer prints to the edge or has a non printing area.
You may need two sets of the artwork with every second artboard on each so that you end up with overlapping artboards for printing/assembly.

  • Mapping Split using the Graphical Mapping Tool

    Hello,
I am a little confused right now... so I turn to you for help!
    I found this excellent blog:
    /people/claus.wallacher/blog/2006/06/29/message-splitting-using-the-graphical-mapping-tool
It details how to do a message split using the Graphical Mapping Tool. WHich is exactly what I want!
But then I found this on help.sap.com:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/42/ed364cf8593eebe10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
    Which states that:
Messages cannot be sent by using different Adapter Engines in a mapping-based message split. This affects configuration thus: All receiver agreements that have a receiver interface from the mapping entered in the key must only be assigned communication channels with the following adapter types:
    -          RFC Adapter
    -          SAP Business Connector Adapter
    -          File/FTP Adapter
    -          JDBC Adapter
    -          JMS Adapter
    -          SOAP adapter
    -          Marketplace adapter
    -          Mail Adapter
    -          RNIF adapter
    -          CIDX Adapter
I have a simple mappling split where I want to take a file containing multiple materials and send them one by one to a PROXY into SRM. To send to proxy I want to use the HTTP adapter which is not listed above. BUT if I read it correctly it will work, as long as I dont try to do the interface determination based on the mapping.
Is this correct, that it will work I mean? I think so but not sure about the wording in the sentence above, and wanted to check before I go destroy my mapping.
    Thanks!
    Nam

    Hi,
If your scenario is simple and straight fwd like from one source to one target then you can split message without BPM. As Priyanka said in the message mapping go to Message Tab and set the target message occurance to unbounded. Then in the Interface Mapping in the target interface section you will find the occurance in the last column, change occurance to unbounded.
While doing configuration you have to go for Enhanced Interface Determination thats it.
Provided you are above sp14, incase of any lowere SP'a you will not even able to activate your mapping program as it will expect ABSTRACT interface to do multimapping.
    Thanks,
