Splitting an event with only only clip

Is it possible to split an event that contains only one clip into two events?
Documentation indicates that in an event with at least two clips it is possible, but with only one clip selecting a thumbnail where the split is desired leaves the 'split at clip' option under the file menu grayed out.

If you can find a single frame or group of frames that can be rejected (and are near the point where you want to split), reject them and move to trash. Now you will have two clips, and it can be split into two events.
If you don't want to lose any frames, best option is Quicktime Pro.

  • Counting (interneal timebase)events with only one counter

    Hello,
i am using a PXI-6115 card. This card is external clocked with 8 MHz. But I want to measure only about every second. So I divided the external clock with the internal counter 0. This works fine.
Now my problem. Now I want to know the external clock rate. Is it possible to build a pulse period measurement with only one counter??
I thinking of counting internal timebase- pulses with counter 1 and to start and stop the counter 1 by the output of counter 0.
    Is this possible and how??
    Thanks for help, Ruediger

Yes, there's a way to measure pulse periods with a single counter. The trick is to perform a buffered period measurement and sum the periods. The size of the buffer will determine the quantization/roundoff error.
The source of this error is that you have no control over the initial phase relationship of your external clock and your internal timebase. There's a nominal ratio between the two frequencies, and you'd start by expecting ratio * (buffer size) total cycles counted.
However, your actual count must be an integer, so you'll get either the next-highest or next-lowest integer, but you can't predict or control which one.
Example: If you collect 1 period at 8 MHz using the internal 20 MHz timebase, you'll capture either 2 or 3 e
dges from your timebase, implying a measured frequency of either 10 MHz or 6.6667 MHz.
If you collect 1001 periods, you'll capture a total of 2502 or 2503 timebase edges, implying a measured frequency of either 8.0016 MHz or 7.9984 MHz.
    Notes:
    1. In many cases, you can set up for buffered event counting, using the internal 20 MHz clock as a source and your external 8 MHz as a gate.
The advantage is that the buffered values already represent cumulative time so you don't need to sum them.
A disadvantage would be that the internal 24-bit counter value will roll-over in less than 1 second at 20 MHz. I typically capture periods and then sum in software because I can convert to floating point between capture and sum if necessary to produce both high-resolution and long duration measurements.
    2. You should typically ignore the very first value in the buffer and work only with the others. If you want to capture 1001 legitimate periods, size the buffer for at least 1002

  • How do I split Imovie events?  I find the option in File menu and have selected the part of the event that I want to split before, but the option to split is not bolded (allowed) in the File menu.

I have imported video to iMovie and want to split the event.  I have selected part of the event and when I go to File> Split the event before the selected clip it is not bolded in the menu and it is not an allowed selection.  I had imported directly to an external HD so moved the event to the Mac HD and tried it again. This did not work either.  Any ideas why this option is not available to me???

Use iMovie to move the events to your Movies folder, otherwise you're can't.

an event in one of my libraries no longer has the event icon next to it's name in the browser just the name only. I can't view the clips in the event or import new clips. I've tried deleting the event and nothing. After control clicking the event it shows all the media that has been previously imported. But it does not allow anything to be done to the event including deleting. This showed up at the beginning of a normal import session. This is fortunately the back-up evant.

Did you perhaps mess with the contents of the library in the Finder?

  • Can I switch calendars (Ex. "night shift" to "day shift" cal) with a repeating event, but ONLY for that one event??  It asks "for all events or only this event" if i change the time.  But it changes ALL events when i try and switch calendars.  Any help??

I have 2 calendars set up for my work schedule, a "night shift" and "day shift" calendar.  I've set up repeating events fro Fri/Sat/Sun 3-11pm "night shifts" and Mon/Tues 7am-3pm "day shifts".  But lets say for example that I swap shifts and instead of working nights on Saturday like I normally would, I am now working days.  I want to change that in my calendar.  When I go to change the event, if i change the TIME it asks if i want to change all event or ONLY this event.  no problem....just this single event.  but when i go to change the event from the "night shift" calendar to the "day shift" calendar, it changes ALL the repeating events, and not just that one single event.   can anyone help with this???  am i doing something wrong?  is there a way to do this or not with the new iCal program???  i used to do this and never had any problems.    Thank you!

You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)
Exactly what you you trying to do?

  • How do I split a single event with many clips into multiples events, one event per date?

I archived the video from my AVCHD camera into a Final Cut video archive. Later I imported this into iMovie. All the clips from this archive (spanning several months) are dumped into a single event. If I recall, older versions of iMovie would import video into separate events for each day. Then I would go through and give each event a meaningful name (e.g., "Mary's Birthday").
This is what I would like. Is there a way to split this very long event into multiple events, one for each day that is present in the event?

Not automatically but with imovie 10 you can create new events with any name you like then move clips into them from other events  (Just like FCP 10.1).   See:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov1d890f00b
You can also choose to display clips in an event grouped by date.

  • I want to make a video clip using two still pictures, placing side by side.  I am able to make with only one at a time.

I want to make a video clip using two still pictures, placing side by side.  I am able to make with only one at a time.  Also, I am able to move the picture using Transform.  But unsuccessfull in making with two stills in same clip.  Thank you for reply.

If you want a Picture in Picture effect, stack one still on top of the other with a connect edit. Use Transform to scale and reposition the top image.

  • Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5 Create Storyline with Audio-Only Clips in order to add crossfade transition.

Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.5 – How to Create Storyline with audio-only clips. I'm following exercises in Diana Weynand's Pro Training Series, and this function is greyed out. Trying to create crossfade transition. New Compound Clip can be activated however.

Chapter 7. Page 269. Exploring Audio Transitions. Selecting two audio clips, then control-clicking the clips. The dropdown menu to Create Storyline or (Command G) is greyed out. The function no longer seems to be available. I've found other functions that no longer apply with the latest version in relation to the book, and I assume that this is another one. But I'm trying to follow the book the best I can. I know there's a workaround. I can simply select an edit point and add the cross dissolve (Command T), but I wonder if this accomplishes the requested exercise from the book.

  • HT1229 How do you transfer photos to external backup and keep the photos in events with event name or with description name. Each time I have tried to transfer them they only transfer with a jpg number so you don't know what photos are what.

How do you transfer photos to external backup and keep the photos in events with event name or with description name. Each time I have tried to transfer them they only transfer with a jpg number so you don't know what photos are what. When you have several thousand photos it is difficult to determined what is what.
Why does iPhoto have the ability to put photos in events and to give them descriptions if it doesn't transfer this info with the photo. I want to back my photos up to an external drive.

The simplest way to achieve what you want is to back up the iPhoto Library. That will get everything.
You sem to be exporting from iPhoto to the Finder. The Finder does not have the same organisation capabilities as iPhoto. If you're going to do that you need to understand some of the differences between the two.
Event Name will become  Folder Name.
'Description Name' I guess is the Title you give the Photo
Jpeg Number is the File Name assigned by your camera.
    So: File -> Export
    Set your Kind to Jpeg
    Select your preferred Quality
Check the Boxes at 'Titles and Descriptions' and Location Information
    Under FIlename select 'Use Title'
Click on Export. In the Next Window choose a New Folder as your export destination and then Name that as you prefer

  • Importing footage results in blacked out clips with only lo-fi audio

    Hello,
I have iMovie '08 7.1.4 (585), and I'm running into some trouble importing footage from my Canon Vixia HF20.
I'm trying to import 1080i footage from a full drive (30 GBs or so), and after a "successful" import sequence, half of my clips are blacked out, with only a low sample rate stream of audio present from the clips.
I've done this import about five times now, in different configurations. The USB connection is directly to my iMac (3.06 GhHz w/ OS 10.6.2), and everything is straight forward. I just can't get iMovie to recognize the clips.
I've successfully imported footage before - it just seems like the sheer amount is throwing iMovie off. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I suspected that as well. I've tried manual and automatic importing, but not in smaller chunks. I'll give that a go in the future....
In the meantime, I read elsewhere of an individual who backs up his flash drive camera content as whole disk images, which then are imported to iMovie for editing. Sounds like he had better luck w/ a disk image - plus the use of disk space is a bit more in your favor, versus iMovie's archiving scheme...
I'll report back with my findings. Thanks for your suggestion.

  • Multiple events per date with only one photo each - Unwanted

I have the eyefi wireless sd card in my camera and it is setup to transmit my photos into iphoto automatically, which it does. However, the problem arises in that iphoto creates multiple events for the same date each containing only one photo. I would prefer that iphoto create individual events per date and have the multiples of that date's photos within. I thought I had the settings configured to do so as I have preferences set for autosplit events one per day but I still see events such as - July 3, 2008 - July 3, 2008 - July 3, 2008 - each with only one photo inside.
I am wondering if it is something in iphoto's settings or the way in which eyefi transmits the photos into iphoto.
    Any thoughts?

I do not have a WiFi connection to my camera so can not test but am just guessing
I can think of two possibilities
    - 1 - if you are taking the photos with the WiFi connected then each time you snap a photo it may be being sent which would be looked at as a new import and therefore create a new event - to stop this I believe you would have to not have a full time WiFi connection to your camera or somehow set the camera to send batched - not each one - iPhoto will take each batch into and follow the rules for making events for that batch even if you camera is sending many batches of One photo
    - 2 - You have the preference for making batches set to one every two hours and there is a long time between photos - I'm guessing that #1 is more likely

  • IPhoto Events with video only not showing in Photos.app  with iOS 4.2.1

I upgraded to iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3GS and when I open the Photos.app the videos and the event with the videos in do not show. I have created a new video on the iphone, synched ok with IPhoto but re-sycnhing with iPhone again does not show videos in Photos.app
Has anyone found a fix for this bug?

The same thing happened to me. I was on a mission yesterday to fix it, but didn't get it to work. I have 1 more thing i want to try... but haven't had a chance.
    Has anyone fixed this?
My plan is to unsync photos to remove them from my phone, delete all the photo cache information from the iPhoto Library package, empty the trash, reboot my computer AND iPhone, open iPhoto to make sure they're sorted correctly, and then sync my phone. If that doesn't fix it... i dont know, i might call Apple.

  • Importing m2t into iMovie with only one conversion

Ok, so m2t files have been beaten to death in these forums, but I'm still puzzled. Here's my situation. I have a Canon HV20 and only replay the tape once to avoid wear and save time (really?). So I capture to m2ts. Fine. Now I'd like to be able to use these in iMovie with only one conversion. I can convert the stream to a framed (QT) format like AIC. But I'd like to do this just once. Meaning, when I convert clip.m2t to clip.mov I'd like to drag this to iMovie and have iMovie just "copy" an not import/convert. Can I convert to a format where I can just drag to the media folder in the given iMovie project?
For those watching. My toolchain is
    1. rewind the tape
    2. capture with HDVsplit (win), DVHScap (mac), or whatever
    3. split/clip the m2t files with HDVsplit (win) or MPEGstremclip (mac/win), or HDVxDV (mac) and leave as m2t
    4. convert the m2t clips I want in my movie to QT+AIC
    5. import these QT+AIC .mov clips into iMovie
    6. edit
I'd like to optimize 4 and 5. (And by the way, someone should port HDVsplit to mac.)
    Thanks,
    WL

MPEG Streamclip allows you to export as QuickTime with Apple Intermediate Codec (also QT Player can do this but I prefer MPEG Streamclip for these tasks). I think you should set the resolution to 1440x1080 because that's what iMovie uses internally for 1080i.
I did a quick test and iMovie seems to accept such AIC-encoded .mov files directly to its Media folder. But run some tests through your complete workflow before trusting this will work!
Ok this was helpful. If I take 1440x1080 QT/AIC output from MPEGstreamclip, I can efficiently copy the file in the project. Works like a charm and looks great in iMovie. (I can also now take the 1920x1080 QT/AIC output from streamclip and do the same; not sure what change there. I did a test on a 1:24 length mpeg-2 stream. The 1440x1080 with and without deinterlacing were 700MB and 600MB respectively, while the 1920x1080 is at 800MB. So it makes sense to do 1440x1080 since iMovie handles it fine.)
In summary (hope this helps someone), here's what I do:
    0a. Macbook with iMovie HD
0b. LaCie macos formated external drive drive (hfs+)
0c. Canon HV20 filmed at 1080i (not sure what do with the 24p cinemode)
    1. use DVHScap (mac) to capture the stream from the HV20. This gives file.m2t, for example. This can be viewed with VLC, for example. (on windows use HDVsplit to capture). Copy the m2t file to the external drive.
    2. now use MPEGstreamclip to disect the m2t file. use the 'i' and 'o' to mark inputs and outputs and then "save as". Save this as file_clip.ts for example. The .ts is the same as an .m2t file, so save it as either.
    3. now you should have 1 or more file_clip.ts depending on how many times you do step 1 and 2.
    4. use MPEGstreamclip in batch mode to take the file_clip.ts or m2t files and "export to Quicktime". Select Apple Intermediate Codec as the type compression type. Yank the quality up to 100%. Select 1400x1080 (4:3) as the frame size and click "deinterlace video" (my opinion on the deinterlacing). Save the movie on the external drive as file_clip.mov.
    5. now start a new iMovie HD project and save the project to the external drive. Quit iMovie. open-apple-click on the myproject.iMovieProject to "show package contents". After this you can move your file_clip.mov files to the media directory under this package. A move is best since copy does an actual copy. Move just moves a pointer.
    6. start up iMovie and view the trash can when prompted ("Some stray files were found in the project...."). Now drag the trash files to the clips area in iMovie.
    7. now edit.
This is a nice approach for a couple of reasons. The .m2t files are great storage formats. The conversion from mpeg-2 stream (m2t) to a framed format like QT+AIC (mov) is done +only once+. And the quality is maintained. Also, I can do this all to an external harddrive, which is nice since I'm limited on my macbook.
I don't have HD gear. Currently I archive SD DV to tape and to big harddisks. In the future I would like to continue to archive HD content in its native compressed (non-AIC) form. Obviously this works via DVHScap, right?
Yes. The m2t files are a great archival format. The 1:25 long clip above was only 275MB while the framed formats were 3 times that. The stream saves differences so it's a lot more efficient (but you don't have frames for editing). VLC is also quick as quick for viewing these. DVHScap never drops any packets (mpeg-2) when capture (for me at least). HDVsplit is also great, but only for windows. HDVxDX also worked like a charm.
Well anyway, thanks for the chatter.
    Nate

  • IPhoto events still split on sync with iPhoto1.9.3 (607)

I got the new iPhoto upgrade 9.1.3(607) that was supposed to fix the splitting up of events when syncing to the iPad2. It did not work for me ....still looks the same. Anyone else see any results rom the new upgrade? I synced then rebooted the iPad2 still split the events!

-I took another shot at it tonight.
-I restored the Library from time machine to  a date before the events split
-then I removed all photos (like 10,000)  from the iPad
-Then I resynced with iPhoto but only the last three events (it is one of these with 400 photos from vacation that is being split)
-It went into iPad a synced properly with only three events. the events matched iPhoto's on the iMac.
-I thought I had solved my problems using the latest update of iPhoto and a pre  event spitting copyof iPhoto's Library ! Eureka!
-Then I went ahead and synced the whole iPhoto library which took  hours.
-WHen the Sync finished The vacation event was split up into many small events just like before.
Now I am really puzzled...Apple I need some help here!
