Splitting clips for copying

I'm trying to create a smaller project (about 3 minutes) from a larger clip (45 minutes). I use the "split clip at playhead" command at the beginning and end to trim a smaller clip, but find that "get info" for the new, supposedly smaller clip is still showing a size of 9 gigs (the full size of the original clip). When I try to copy and paste the "smaller" clip into the new project the program freezes, apparently because it's still registering the size of the longer clip, maybe not even recognizing the smaller clip. I've tried renaming the smaller clip, which hasn't worked. I may have to re-download from my camera only the footage that I want in the smaller project, but I'd like to avoid that.
Thanks!

You just have to live with that (or re-import). iMovie is a non-destructive editor, which means you should be able to go back to your full length clip at any time.

  • Inserted transition "grayed out" on split clip

    Greetings,
Pretty new user so excuse the question...if repeated, tried to search but found nothing.
I am in advanced tools on my editor and split my video clip and inserted a transition. When I go into my precision editor, I see the transition inserted in the split but it is "grayed out" and not in white like it is usually. Am I missing a step here or doing something wrong? I can't make it work? I do have right next to it, a photo cut-away. (I wanted to split the video, insert the transition before the photo).
I can make the transition longer but again, it's grayed out and I can't see it on the final project.
Thanks for any suggestions and help.

    Again, excuse the newbie here.
Yes, the split clip where I inserted the transition, is there and I can make the transition larger but how do you make the split larger? Is that what you are asking? I want the transition to come before the cut away photo (about 5.6 sec), then play back to the video. The video before is about 2 min in length before the split, or does the transition only work by previous by frame size?
Also, what file do I make a copy of where my movie is held (in preferences when you click on movie folder) to save a copy of this in another area on my HD so if I mess up one copy of the movie, I can go back to the original one and insert it back into the iMovie folder? Thanks.

  • Is there a way to split clips in the Event browser? (audio-synch related)

It seems there is no way to split an event-clip (a clip that appears in the Event browser). You can split Events--but only if they consist of more than one clip. And then you can only split them between two clips. People who have transferred analog video tapes (e.g., Video8) to their computers with the help of iMovie end up with Events that are the same length as their video tapes. So this usually means 2-hour events (consisting of one clip). But iMovie has a synchronization problem for such DV files. This problem would be mitigated by having shorter events. Hence the desire to split events. I thought a read somewhere a workaround for splitting event-clips, but if was a few months ago. I wouldn't think there is any reason we cannot split event clips, other than a preference for non-destructive editing. But a bit of destruction may be worthwhile if it improves synchronization. Does anyone know a way to split clips in the Event browser?

  • Split clip no longer working

    Hello Apple Community,
I would really appreciate the help.  I am half way through editing a wedding video and my split clip function just stopped working.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?  Thank you for the help!

This is happening to me as well, Keith.
Airport Utility can not discover the Airport Express. I've reinstalled AU, as well as pulling the Airport Express from power and plugging it back in. I have not "reset" it yet, as I'm hoping there is a solution without having to lose all my Wifi settings.
    Anyone got an answer?

  • HELP!!!! Problems with saving/exporting split clips in Premiere Elements 13

I have Premiere Elements 13.  I have a 2 hr mp4 file I have set up into 8 split clips and want to save each split clip as it's own mp4 file so I can import it into Adobe Presenter as video for each particular slide.  I need very specific steps as how to accurately select each split clip and save it or export it as it's own mp4 file.  I was given instructions that instructed me to add these gray bars around the clip I wanted to save/export but I am unable to identify how to get those gray bars to activate around the clip.  When I save/export it is saving the entire 2 hr mp4 vs the individual clip.

I have already replied to your latest request for further details on setting the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar.

Again, there are two requirements for selectively exporting a portion of the Timeline content
    a. setting the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar
    and
    b. having a check mark next to the Share Work Area Bar Only option in the export area.

  • Splitting clips problem. Corrupt project?

I have a 3 hour 15 minute project that I finished editing (down from 6+ hours of footage).  Aside from iMovie starting to run quite slow by the time I was adding chapters and titles, everything went well.  After 11 hours of exporting to Quicktime, I split the movie file in half and burned two DVDs.  Everything looks good, except I noticed a section that I accidentally placed the sound off from the video.  An easy fix for just that section, or so I thought.
Back in iMovie, I get the spinning color wheel everytime I move or click anywhere.  But the real problem is that I no longer split clips ... at least not where I intend to.  I stop the playhead where I want to split the clip, and instead of splitting it there, iMovie is splitting the clip anywhere from a half second to 3 seconds after the point I choose.
I'm guessing the project is corrupt since I can create a new project, drag in a clip and it splits just fine.  And if I pull in clips from other events into the corrupt project, the splitting gets screwed up again.
I'm hoping there's a solution rather than having to create a new project.  I used a lot of transitions, and I want to keep the timing exact so I can easily replace the affected portions of the movie file rather than waiting another 11 hours for everything to export.
And yes, I tried all the usual deleting of preferences, moving the project out of the movies folder, etc., etc. and it's still an issue.

    Hi Flagmaker82,
If you are having difficulties splitting a clip as you describe, you may want to try placing the playhead where you want the split, control clicking the clip and select Split Clip from the shortcut menu. The process is similar to what is described for trimming a clip in this article -

  • Splitting Clips within an Event

I have searched everywhere for how to do this but come up short. I have old camera clips in .avi format that I have imported. I want to split portions of a single clip into new and separate events but the split clip and split clip before commands are greyed out. Can I do this or do I really have to create a separate project for each clip segment in order to separate these video segments. Final Cut Express wont seem to import these .avi clips at all, so I can't try doing it there either.

If you highlight the clip and drag the sliders to the middle (or wherever) and 'remove selection', does that work?

  • Splitting Clips

I just can't figure this out. I have a project that currently is made up of 6-8 clips. One clip is rather long, 10 minutes or so. I want to shorten this clip by taking out some dead space in a few sections. Just chopping seconds out of the clip. I can trim to my hearts desire and that's cool. But the Split Clip never becomes an option in my edit menu and I cannot find anything anywhere on how to do this.
Imagine a long clip and you don't want to trim in/out. You simply want to take a razor blade (ala FCP) and make a couple cuts, then delete the offending clip and throw in a transition. Should be easy enough but I'm pulling my hair out????

I have a similar situation. This is designed for new footage from digital sources that has a nice start/stop point to break up clips every time you start and stop the camera.
I am converting about 100 hours of 5-10 year old Hi 8mm analog footage that is in 1-2 hour chunks. The borrowed digital camcorder I am using as a bridge (my newer minDV camera does not have an analog input) breaks the footage into 30 minute clips.
On a newer camera, this footage would end up being 10-30 manageable clips. I can't figure out how to split the clips (actually events I guess) in the events library either. One of the 30 minute "clips" could cross 5 "events," so it would be very handy to have the events separated in my events library rather than only being able to do so in the project library.
    Any Ideas?

Thanks.  I do not have the experience on burning discs from iMovie for the movie after editing (ie for video discs players).  It seems that i cannot find the relevant command in the tool bar for this purpsoe.  Would you please show me the way?
The command is gone because iDVD has been discontinued by Apple. After Apple discontinued iDVD they removed the iDVD burning link from iMovie. I still use iDVD sometimes, only because I have an old copy.

You have mentioned about Handbrake as a converter.  What is the RF no. Again, what is the best rate?  Furthermore, which format is more suitable or the best: H264 or mpeg 2/4?
I don't know what RF means. When I have used HandBrake, I've used presets that apply to what I want to do, so I don't know the meaning of each individual setting. However, it appears that many of them are listed in the HandBrake User's Guide that is linked from the Help menu in the program:

For iMac, except iMovie, what other software is the best for the amateur?  I have read Photoshop.  Can this support m2ts files and user friendly?
Photoshop is not amateur-level software, and although it can edit a video, it cannot burn a DVD. Unfortunately, because I still use iMovie, I haven't tried anything else. You might want to read the reviews of various DVD-burning applications in the Mac App Store.

  • I want to use a clip for idvd

I want to use a clip for idvd for the menu so I want only a part of the clip ( in mark & out mark) is there a way to export or creat a copy for capture scratch only the part of the clip I marked?

If you have I/O marked in the viewer or the timeline only that section will get exported.

  • Split clip with iMovie 09

Importing from a Mini DV Camera,I would like to split my mowie in different event, for instance one for each day. After selecting a part of a clip in my event browser I go in < Menu File <Split clip. But this selection is not active. How to do ?

You need to Delete a single frame, and then trash rejected clips. Note that this will turn .dv files into .mov files, and there will be some quality loss. Use mpegstreamclip (see other postings in this forum) to maintain quality by converting interlaced video to progressive.

  • Split delivery for each schedule line

    Hi,
We have a requirement to split deliveries for each schedule line in the order.
For example: I have an order with one line item which has 2 schedule lines. If the schedule line date on one is 01/29 & the other is on 01/31, and the delivery due list VL10A is run with a range 01/29 - 01/31, it picks both the schedule line & combines them into one delivery.
Is there a way by which we can force them to create 2 different deliveries (as it would if the delivery due list was run for each day at a time).
We created a data transfer routine (deliveries), and populating ZUKRL with schedule line date & that doesnt solve the problem since the routine is triggered once for each sales order line and not for schedule lines.
SAP reverted back that this is standard SAP behaviour to cumulate all due schedule lines into one delivery, but I would like to know if anyone has any other solution ?
    Thanks in advance!

First of all you have to use VL10E to create deliveries, since it creates one delivery item for each schedule line.
Then play with your own delivery role copied from standard profile 0201:
you can trigger 3 different flags to reach your goal:
Cumul. Rule: Rule for calculation of quantity to be delivered
There is a field that contains a cumulated quantity in delivery lists
with item or schedule line views. The quantity at which the list line
(document item or schedule line) is delivered is defined in this field
when it is selected and the delivery process is started in the
background. The value is a default and can be changed by manually
processing the delivery list on the item or schedule line level.
SplitSchedLine: Rule for creating one delivery item per schedule line
In a delivery list in item view with multiple schedule lines, you can
decide for the same document item whether you want to generate one
delivery item per schedule line or whether you want to deliver the
cumulated quantity of the last schedule lines selected.
LimitSchedLine:  Allow constraints on schedule line level
You can use this indicator to limit selection o
         delivery when
         o   Delivery due date and/or
o   Planned goods issue date and/or
         o   Route schedule
does not fall within selection range.
This should help you to solve your problem.
    pls. reward points if helpful
    Regards
    Roberto

  • Split Clip??

Why is Split Clip in the edit menu and mentioned in the help but doesn't work. I make looping backgrounds from stills and usually split the last clip before applying transitions so it will loop seamlessly. Has anyone figured this out or do I need to go back to ilife 06? (I used split clip at playhead alot in 06)

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Split clip works fine for me. It only works in the project window and you need to select part of the clip for it to work, not just simply place your playhead at the point you want to split.

  • How to strech a music clip for the Entire video

    Hello Every-one.
I have a 30 minutes video, and I have a 10 seconds music clip, instead of copy and paste the Music clip, all the way until the end of my video,,  Is there other Techniques so i can apply this 10 Seconds Music Clip for my entire movie.
    Thanks
    Simon

Surely you're gonna have to edit it on the beat so that the extended piece appears seamless.  I'm not sure there's an automated way of doing that.
Use the asterisk key on the numeric pad to tap the beat and leave markers in the timeline.  Cut and edit acccordingly.
