Splitting for Cable Box and Router

Okay so heres the situation. Right now in my room there is only one cable connection in my wall. That was used to connect my small TV box (not the huge HD box, just the secondary ones that get put in several rooms) so I could watch FIOS in my room. The router for the wireless in my house was right down the hall plugged into the wall and running smoothly. Now i would like to bring the router into my room, except there is only one connection. I have a splitter from verizon, and have tried connecting both the cable box and the router using it. The cable still works perfect when i do this, but the router only turns on and wont allow me to connect to the internet. I have tried resetting it and everything, but nothing works. Is there a reason this isn"t working, and any solution?
Thanks,
Jason

Are you sure that is a Verizon supplied splitter and not one the installer might have removed from a prior cable installation?
Verizon uses MOCA between the ONT and the router and between the router and the STBs.  MOCA operates at frequencies over 1Ghz and requires splitters rated to 1Ghz.  If that splitter is not rated 1Ghz, it won't pass the MOCA signals.
Check the splitter.  If you don't see any rating on it or it is rated upto 850Mhz, you need to replace it with a 1Ghz splitter.
If it is rated 1Ghz, then this isn't your issue.
What happens as a test if you leave the router where it is at and install the splitter in your room, leaving one tap empty.
Do VOD and widgets work on your STB?  i.e. can your STB get to the router through the splitter?
Try both taps.  One or both taps on the splitter could be bad.

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

  • Wrong cables from tv socket for youview box and tv

    Hi there,
I have received my tv box and can not set it up because the cables coming out of my tv socket are two satellite cables (the one with the screws). I have an aerial cable as well. Is there something I can buy to link these cables together or does bt provide this equipment?
    Thank you, Alexandra

    Unless I'm reading this wrong......
You have a wall mounted faceplate that has satellite screw connections
    One serves a sat dish
    One serves a traditional aerial
If that's the case, then a male or female (you'd have to check) one of these would do the trick
    A satellite to coax converter
You screw one of these in to the wall mounted plate and plug a coax cable in to this.

  • ATV3 - setup without HDMI.  One available is being used for cable box.

What is the best way to hook up my new Apple TV3.  Just arrived and can't believe I have to wait and figure this out.
I do not have a HDMI slot available.  Our TV has one HDMI slot that is being used for our cable.
What are the best options ot look at to get this all to work?
    Potential options include
    1.  Splitting HDMI (if this works and is possible).  Best way to do this?
    2.  Switching my cable over to component (not sure I want to do this).
    3.  What else?
    Many thanks

Switching your cable box to component video (NOT "composite") is an outstanding idea. You will also have to connect audio cables between your STB and TV. As long as the analog hole remains available, you will not notice any loss of quality compared to the HDMI connection. Just configure your cable box to output 1080i or 720p all the time, whatever is appropriate for your TV. In fact, I have a Sony TV that emits loud pops when changing channels while the cable box is hooked up to it via HDMI, but it's nice and silent when using the analog connections.

  • How do I set up Airport Extreme with cable modem and router?

    Hi--
I'm having a house built and all of the wiring for TV, phone, and internet will be centralized in a closet. The cable modem can be placed there as well. In one room in the basement I want to use my Airport Extreme for my iMac and USB external hard drives. In another location of the basement, I'd like to set up a Time Capsule for another desktop and USB printer. If the cat5e comes out of the wall at each location, I "think" I need a router at the closet location. I also thought I might need an Airport Express upstairs on first or second floor to boost signal for my laptop. The house isn't that big so maybe that's overkill. So beyond the router question, do I want to set up a roaming network and have the Airport Express connected via ethernet or just wireless if the thought is that I need this? Finally, if I should connect cable modem to router to Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, etc., in what order and ports does the equipment get connected? Many thanks!!

Welcome to the discussions, Forum Girl!
It would be best to position the cable modem and main router in the central location like the closet if possible. The other devices would connect via ethernet to the wall jacks in each room.
If you could setup a "roaming" wireless network as you mention, this will give you better wireless performance and coverage. This is the way commercial establishments like airports, businesses, etc. are configured for wireless.
The order of connection would go something like this: ethernet connection > cable modem >main router>devices. Devices could be computers, routers, a backup device, etc. Since the Extreme has only 3 LAN ports for ethernet connections, you will also need to plan to install an "ethernet switch" near the location of the main router to provide enough ethernet jacks. If you are planning to use DirectTV, etc or your audio/video devices require ethernet connections (most new products do for updates and extra features), be sure to plan for that as well.
Make sure that CAT5e or CAT6 wiring is run so you will be able to take advantage of faster gigabit speeds.
Finally, it would be a good idea to work with an IT specialist to go over your plans to make sure all the bases are covered. This would be money well spent.

  • Any tutorial for building adapters and routing services for JBI container ?

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post
is there any tutorial for Sun JBI container ?
I want to know how i can build/deploy JBI components like adapters and routing service for Sun JBI container .
another question is that , is it based on OpenESB ?
    thanks

You can find a white paper on writing a JBI service engine here:
    http://java.sun.com/integration/reference/techart/DevelopingAServiceEngineComponent-1-2.pdf
Also, there is a lot of information on JBI and Open ESB here:
    http://java.sun.com/integration/
You ask if the Sun JBI container is based on Open ESB - it's actually the other way around: Open ESB is based on the Sun JBI container. The JBI container is a JSR208-compliant implementation, and Open ESB builds upon that implementation to add full ESB capabilities.
    hope this helps -

    Hi,
For your requirement you can define your Order Type Dependent parameters OPL8 as:
Production Version : 1 Manual Selection of production Version.
In this case every time when you creat your Production order System will ask for the Production version to be selected. You need to select the PV manually then only you can proceed further.
This setting is applicable only when the Production Order is Created.
It will not effect the Planned Oredr creation via. MRP Run..
    Hope this helps..

  • Uccx script, que for three minutes and route offsite ?

    Good afternoon,
i am trying, to get a call in que for three minutes to route somewhere, ultimately offsite...script editor seems way to input driven for a wait x and go to here step..is there a simple example, and i have googled to death the web, of a real script that has a current wait duration =x then go to off site number around out here?
    it would be much appreciated.
    thank you

It's unlikely that you will get exactly a three minute cut-off. The way most do this is to check the Current Wait Duration (in seconds) using the Get Reporting Statistics step every time you loop through your queued loop. Following the Get Reporting step you would use an If statement to evaluate if the variable is >= 180. In the True branch you would use a Dequeue and then a Call Redirect step. In the false branch you would continue your nomal queued logic.
    Select Resource
    -Selected
    -Queued
    --Label: QUEUED LOOP
--Get Reporting Statistic (Current Wait Duration)
    --If contactWaitDuration >= 180
    ---True
    ----Dequeue
    ----Call Redirect
    ---False
    ----Nothing
    --[normal queued prompt/MoH/etc]
    --Goto: QUEUED LOOP

  • Digital Signature for Inspection Plan and Routing

    Hi,
Can someone please help me on the topic of how to activate Digital Signature for inspection plan changes. I need to activate Digital signature functionality for inspection plan or routing. Please guide me to any link or shared documents on this topic.
    Thanks
    Vineeth

    Hi Vineeth,
Standard SAP does not support this. Though I came across similar situation for maintenance plan, where we used BADI for this.
Try to go through DIG_SIGNATURE_MAINT_PLAN. Consult with a good ABAPer if he can modify it some how for inspection plan.
The links below may help you to understand the functionality [http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/SAPMDM/E-SIGNATUREforMaintenancePlants-MasterData(ECC6.0)] & [http://www.consolut.com/en/s/sap-ides-access/d/s/doc/YN-IF_EX_IPRM_DIG_SIGNATURE~~~~~~DIG_SIGNATURE_MAINT_PLAN]
In SAP, check BADI_DIG_SIG_RES_REC_PROCESS, if anything can be done here.

  • Suggestions for Cable Modem and Wireless Router

    Hey everyone!
I have the new iMac and would like to have a faster wireless router. Currently using an old D-Link Wireless G router and would like something like the Time Capsule (as it has Airport Extreme in it) or Netgear Rangemax Dual Band Wirless-N Gigabit Router. My problem is, my Internet is through my cable company, so it comes into the house as a cable connection. It appears that these two combos would still require the use of a cable modem.
Any suggestions to keep the equipment down to one piece? If not, any suggestions for a cable modem so I can return this old one to the cable company?
What would be the best/quickest wireless router?
    Thanks for your help!

Go to your ISP's web site and do a search from your ISP for compatible cable modems. Then buy the capable modem your ISP says that is comp[atible. On the new cable modem find the Serial number & MAC address, make then call your ISP tech help desk and tell them the new modem you got and he/she will ask you that information. When the ISP tech says they can see/ping that new cable modem then it will work. Then connect a new cheaper Airport Extreme and any external USB2 hard drive to connect to that new Airport Extreme. I say this because Apple put out and Update a little while ago that will allow an external connected to an Extreme as a Time Machine disk.
PS: Remember the old trick of checking you Ethernet cables. I can't count how times I have seen professionals install all new high speed switches, routers, etc. and wonder why no speed is seen. Then after numerous trouble shooting they discover they used the old 10 Base T cables and just changing the cable solved their problem.
Just make sure you do this one at a time starting with getting the ISP compatible cable modems list to know what cable modem you can buy (to save that monthly ISP rental fee). Then you can get the going as long as so speak with your ISP tech to give them that new cable modem Serial number and MAC address so they can register it with their servers.
This will be to easy as long as you do things in step.

  • AirPort Extreme   Cisco cable modem and router

    Hi all,
I have a Cisco cable modem/router which is being connected to an AirPort Extreme without any problems. I disable DCHP on the Cisco and connected to the WAN port of the AirPort with an ethernet cable.
Now I have a home office with several computers, nas drive, etc and the configuration is somewhat complex to have it messed up. I share a house with another two and while I was away for the weekend one of them decided to wipe off all my AirPort Extreme configuration.
I don't wanna go throught that again so I'm looking for options to having two separate wifi networks, one for home users (Cisco) and my office (AirPort). Since I can't run a cable between them, how can I get internet connection on the AirPort from the Cisco? I don't think joining/extending the wifi from the Cisco is an option since I want two separate wifi networks.
I've somewhat managed to get it working by using a Netgear WNCE2001 to connect wirelessly to the Cisco and to the AirPort with a network cable. The AirPort is then set up to create a new wireless network, configured as DCHP only with a range different than the Cisco. Everything works fine apart form the downloading speed goes in waves, really slow. Upload speeds are fine though. If instead of the Netgear WNCE2001 I connect both routers with a network cable everything is perfectly smooth (same settings on both).
All I can think of is one of those pairs network-through-mains and hope they do the job connecting both.
Is there any other way to have two separate wifi networks sharing the same interrnet connection?
Many thanks for any help you can give.

Thank you for your answer, I'm ordering a set of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004INVKP4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8 &psc=1 and hope they do the job.
I'll get back and tell if they work, might be helpful for others.
    Thanks again.

  • Can anyone suggest an international GPS nav app that offers map and POI downloads for offline access and route search?

I'm going to be in the UK with an American phone, don't expect mobile data, and I'd like to use this app instead of the £30 up charge for a rental GPS... I've seen the free Navfree and the cheap as free MotionX Drive, but have read Navfree has some spotty routing and MotionX won't allow regional (or even whole city, ftm) map downloads.

At $90 for the UK maps this is a too pricey for the use case. In case it wasn't clear, I'm visiting the UK short term so I shouldn't spend more than the £30 to hire a GPS nav system.
Thanks for the suggestion! Any other ideas?
