Splitting Midi To different tracks

Hey,
Is there anyway to split a midi part to separate channels. Let me explain - Say you have you sequence a kick snare and hihat on one midi part. Then is there an option to split each part to there own channel (so the kick will be on one track and the snare will be on its own etc).
Sounds complicated but this means you could then mix down better and add different parameters to each part. I know you can do this in Cubase so was wondering if there was something similar on Logic.
Cheers.

There are several ways to deal with this. If you are using something like BFD, Superior, etc - make a multi instance of the virtual instrument. In the VI assign each drum to a different output bus, then each drum will come up on a seperate channel in your mixer..
If you were using a stereo instance - would be to mute all drums, but the kick, and record that to audio, then the snare, hats, etc. One at a time, that way you have complete control over it. You can go back later, and replace the snare, change pitch etc. without disturbing the rest of the mix.

  • Splitting midi commands among different tracks

Some time ago, someone posted a technique to split different midi parameters among different tracks in the arrange window. It was for an orchestral score, done this way to get tight control and automation on the parameters.
I've looked for that post for several days, but cannot find it. Does someone know who posted it?
    I'd appreciate any help.

  • Splitting midi tracks?

I start by creating a new project and a single software track
I then choose a drum kit from the media library
with the Caps Lock on I hit Record and bash out some different drums on my computer keyboard.
With the track and region selected I choose Midi / Separate Midi Events / By Note Pitch
and the midi notes separate on to different tracks
But they still behave like one track
If I click Solo or Mute they all highlight.
When I open the mixer there is only one channel strip
    Not ten separate channel strips
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks

You are not doing anything wrong here: this is how Logic works when you do a "split by note pitch". The result will be multiple Arrange tracks that all 'talk' to the same Instrument channel.
If you need to make them truly independent, you may have a couple of choices:
Create some new duplicate tracks and move the regions to those
    or (maybe)
Use multi-output Instrument Channels and Output Aux channels to get the 'separation' you need.

  • Separate Midi Drums To Different Tracks?

    Hi,
I have just programed my midi drums on an instrument track.
Is there way to separate the snare, kick drum to separate midi tracks other than manually doing so?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Darren.

Make copies of your drum Instrument track (shift+return) - copy/option drag the regions to the copied tracks - select highest and lowest not in the Inspector of your regions - so kickdrum lowest/highest note C1/C1 - snare D1/D1 - and so on.
Even faster way is to go to the region menue in the Arrange->Split/seperate->separate different pitches (translated form my german menue)
every note will be split up into a new region so you'll have a region with kickdrums/snares and so on.

  • 2 midi controllers on different tracks..

    Hello,
I have two midi controllers, both usb going into logic pro 9 and a mac pro. Can you play both on different tracks at the same time and get different instruments for each piano and play them together at the same time and even record. How do you do it?
I know that this might be a difficult question to explain on a forum or maybe not. So if you can lead me to a web page, video, or link, or just even answer it here. That would be so helpful.
Thanks so much for you much needed help.

I'm sorry to say that, but this putting the forum into a mess when you toggle your posts like: "I'v got it" - "I did not" and the post is marked as answered when it is not...
    Well, try next:
    1. Set your external controllers to different midi channels say ch.1 & ch.2.
    2. Set the Logic Software Instruments midi channels to match the external controller channels ( i.e ch.1&2 ).
    3. Go to Logic Settings -> Recording and enable "Autodemix by midi channel if multitrack recording" which will switch Logic into a "live play" mode.
    4. Arm the tracks of the Software Instruments you want to audition or record.

  • Splitting midi parts

    Hi All,
can anyone tellme how to split midi parts up, i.e. if I got a midifile which has a brass section in one part but I would like to split the parts up trumpet/saxes/trombone/baritone etc. and use diff. instruments to trigger the sounds.
Is there a quick way to do this.
When I used to use Digitalperformer there was a v. good split notes facility which would allow you to send selected notes to a new midi channel etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    James B

I assume your original MIDI file is outside of LOGIC and has each part on a unique MIDI channel (Format 1, I think). If so, import the file and it should send each MIDI channel to a separate track such that there are as many regions as there are MIDI channels from the original.
I import the MIDI file using (APPLE-I) or File>Import . My system does this "breaking out" of the MIDI file automatically. There may be a preference setting of which I'm unaware, however.
If the file is currently in LOGIC, you could Export the File (as Format 1, I think) and then re-import the file.
    Hope this works for you,
    Mitch

  • How to make Different Tracks in a Recording

    HI there ...
I'm just starting to make my way around GarageBand ...
I have to do a recording tomorrow ... its an audition for a pianist. He's going to have to play some solos, scales etc ... all told it will be about an hour and a half of recording or more ...
What I need to know is ..... Every part of the audition has to end up as a different track on the cd I make of it. For example the ten scales has to play would each be a track number ... his solo piece another number and so on.
How do I mark tracks on the recording? Also ... if I set up the recording and just press record every time he plays ..... am I going to have enough space in the one project to record everything? I thought I read somewhere that garageband has a limit on the number of bars that it can record.
Thanks so much for any help .......

I just looked at Amadeus Pro on the web .... Does it do recording too?
    Yes
How many tracks can it do ....
I don't think it's actually specified, but lots. (Actually I don't think this is what you are talkin aboujt, it can do numerous simultaneous tracks for mixing down: but yes, you can split a single recording into separate ones.)
If I record on GarageBand ... can I use Amadeus to
    edit the GarageBand file? ...
Yes - first export to iTunes then drag the file from iTunes to the desktop and then drag that to the Amadeus Pro icon in the dock.
.... Cut sections out ... Mark tracks .... and burn a
    CD? ....
Yes, yes and yes. The program is still in beta and I haven't actually tried the CD burning facility, but in any case you can burn audio CDs from iTunes.

  • Audio and Midi Jumping/Swithching Tracks in Arrange Window

I've had an issue with audio and Midi information switching tracks in the arrange window. Granted, I'm new with Logic. But as I'm working in an audio Track (let's say track 3), I happen to undo a record pass or delete something, and the next thing I know, all the tracks have jumped up one -- so the Midi drums in track 10 are in nine, playing the piano insert. The Midi Piano is up in 8 doing nothing (because track 8 is an audio track), etc. etc. etc. Very annoying -- even when the tracks are frozen.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I've had this happen in the past.
What version of Logic are you working on?

  • How can I get 2 different track from iTunes playing on 2 different stereos?

We are remodeling a part of our home and decided that this would be the time to install a whole house audio system. We would like to use our iTunes library as a source and be able to play different tracks in different parts of the house (also called zones)
To put it in a slightly different fashion. I could have a dedicated Mac Mini with my iTunes library and it would feed tracks with meta data to 3 stereos in various parts of the house. Each stereo independently select tracks or playlists.
iTunes purchased tracks need to work as well.
    Thank you all....

What you need is to use one Mac (or PC) as a server (and storing all the music) and then one of the following in each room connected to that rooms HiFi system.
Sonos ZonePlayer see http://www.sonos.com this is the most expensive option but is regarded as the premier multi-room solution.
Roku SoundBridge see http://www.rokulabs.com (I have three M2000 SoundBridges myself)
    Slim Devices Squeezebox see http://www.slimdevices.com
Apple TV see http://www.apple.com/appletv (unlike all the above this will require the use of a TV)
With these, different rooms can play different tracks at the same time with them all stored on the single computer.

  • Is there a way to select multiple track sections from different tracks and join them to make the chorus on iPhone?

I am currently using the iPhone to record my vocals on top of professional beats, or riddims as they are called in the dancehall world. Is there a way for me to select multipe voice sections from different tracks, copy them and then paste them later in the project. I don't want to record the chorus more than once. Normally what I do is sync the project to my wife MacBook Air and then from there edit it but I would like to avoid this. Also, I use the earpods microphone to record my voice and of course it doesn't come out professional quality but it is decent. Do you recommend a microphone that plugs to the iPhone or should I get an interface? Thanks for the help.

You can either copy and paste single regions or duplicate sections, if you want to copy regions
    from different tracks in parallel.
See: Extend a song with song sections
Adjust the length of your sections in a way, that the regions you want to copy from different tracks are together in a section of your song.
Add a copy of a section:
Open the song section controls, choose the section you want to copy, then tap Duplicate. The copy is added after the last section.
Tap Done to close the song section controls.
After copying the section, move the new section to the end of the song:
    Change the order of sections:
Open the song section controls, then tap Edit.
Drag a section up or down in the list by the handle on its right edge.
When you are finished, tap Done.
Tap Done to close the song section controls.

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

  • When clicking an audio clip on the timeline in Premiere Pro CC 2014, it duplicates it on a different track and makes it impossible to work.

I'm experiencing a disturbing issue as it actually prevents me to do the work in Premiere. I will put as much info as possible:
    1) Project started on a different computer (the editor), PC with Premiere Pro CC,
    2) Now opened on my Imac with Premiere Pro CC 2014,
    3) I am not editing, simply trying to move audio clips on different tracks to export audio tracks only,
    THE ISSUE:
    1) Here is my timeline:
    2) When I select an audio clip to highlight it, Premiere creates a duplicate on a different track:
Note that the clip highlighted in the previous screen cap is the duplicate and I didn't click it, Premiere highlights it as soon as it is duplicated.
    3) When I click out of the timeline or scroll up or down on the timeline, the duplicates disappear. However, when I try to move the original clips, it doesn't do anything, they are stuck in place.
    ANTICIPATED ANSWERS:
    1) You work on 2 different computers with 2 different versions of Premiere Pro CC, what do you expect? --> The amazing thing about Adobe CC is that it shouldn't be an issue and now I have to deal with it in this way,
    2) Try and save an updated version of your project from your computer. --> Already done that.
Thank you for your help. I usually use the customer support chat but I am on the other side of the globe and it is now closed. This issue prevents me to work so I need to solve it quickly.
    Kind regards,
    Aurelien

This sounds to me like it could be a graphics related problem are you on the latest driver. Something else you could try, start a new project and import the one from the PC into that rather than directly opening it in the MAC

  • Split data into different fields in TR

I have a flat file with space (multiple spaces between different fields) as a delimiter. The problem is, file is coming from 3rd party and they don't want to change the separator as comma or tab delimited CSV file. I have to load data in ODS (BW 3x).
Now I am thinking to load line by line and then split data into different objects in Transfer rules.
    The Records looks like:
    *009785499 ssss BC sssss 2988 ssss 244 sss 772 sss  200
    *000000033 ssss AB ssss        0  ssss   0 ssss 0 ssss 0
    *000004533 ssss EE ssss        8  ssss   3 ssss 2 ssss 4
    s = space
Now I want data to split like:
    Field1 = 009785499
    Field2 = BC
    Field3 = 2988
    Field4 = 244
    Field5 = 772
    Field6 = 200
After 1st line load, go to 2nd line and split the data as above and so on. Could you help me with the code pleaseu2026?
Is it a good design to load data? Any other idea?
    I appreciate your helps..

    Hi,
Not sure how efficient this is, but you can try an approach on the lines of this link /people/sap.user72/blog/2006/05/27/long-texts-in-sap-bw-modeling
Make your transfer structure in this format. Say the length of each line is 200 characters. Make the first field of the structure of length 200. That is, the length of Field1 in the Trans Struc will be 200.
The second field can be the length of Field2 as you need in your ODS, and similarly for Field3 to Field6. Load it as a CSV file. Since there are no commas, the entire line will enter into the first field of the Trans Structure. This can be broken up into individual fields in the Transfer Rules.
Now, in your Start Routine of transfer rules, write code like this (similar to the ex in the blog):
    Field-symbols <fs> type transfer-structure.
    Loop at Datapak assigning <fs>.
        split <fs>-Field1 at 'ssss' into <fs>-field1 <fs>-field2 <fs>-field3....
        modify datapak from <fs>
    endloop.
Now you can assign Field1 of Trans Struc to Field1 of Comm Struc, Field2 of Trans Struc to Field2 of Comm Struc and so on.
    Hope it helps!
