Splwow64.exe crash accessing printer properties page

Accessing the printer properties page fails in all instances. Some programs just crash with no error message, others do not crash, yet give the error: "C:\Windows\Splwow64.exe Function address 0x3506b9e2 caused a protection fault (exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all property pages may not be displayed" I have gone through the steps outlined here with no success. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Issues-Troubleshooting/hp-laserjet-1536dnf-MFP-printer-properties-window-flashes/td-p/3086811 I should note that I can still print...I just cannot access the printer property pages under any circumstances. Also, attempting to access printer properties via control panel > devices and printers crashes Windows explorer. Accessing printing preferences from the same location does nothing. Will not open. Thank you.

  • Windows server 2003 R2 SPLWOW64.exe crashing

    Hi All,
    I Hope you can help,
I am running windows 2003R2 at one of my client sites,
They run with an Oracle 10g database, Application server and reports server.
They also use a 3rd party software for label printing called Loftware or LPS,
For some unkown reason the splwow64.exe process keeps crashing and bring the reports and LPS down,
Can someone try and point me in the right place to look to see why this would be happening,
If any more information is needed please let me know.
    Best Regards And Many Thanks,
    Gavin

    Hi,
Based on your description, I suggest you should firstly go to Event Viewer and check if you can find some detailed clues. Meanwhile, please let me know the completed
error message that you can get.
In addition, would you please let me know the Windows Server 2003 R2 that you use is 32-bit OS or 64-bit OS? The Splwow64.exe will load files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
Please compare with a normal computer and check related DLL files if all are OK under the folder.
Then please check and update the printer drivers. Monitor if this issue still persists.
By the way, there is a similar question for Splwow64.exe. The questioner provided a solution. Please refer to and check if it’s helpful for your current situation.

  • Firefox crashes when trying to access Printer Properties

I have a Dell AIO Printer A920. I have never had printing problems with Firefox until I upgraded to Firefox 4. I am having a few problems now. The whole page is not printing anymore even though it is set to Shrink to Fit. I have to adjust the scale in order to get everything and sometimes this does not work either. On Print Preview I only get one or two pages even though the printing job would be four or five pages. In other words, parts of the whole document are missing. What is happening more also is that when I click Print and the Print box come on with my printer's name, if I click print, it would print but if I click on Properties to adjust the settings, I get the error message: Function address OxO caused a protection fault. (exception code Oxc0000005) The application property sheet pages(s) may not function property Then If I click OK, Firefox crashes. I can print OK and go into the properties box with no crashes or error messages from Internet Explorer. I rarely use Explorer because I love Firefox. This tells me that nothing is wrong with my printer but that something is preventing the printer from working properly with Firefox. I can also print from my Adobe Reader documents with no problems.
Could you please help. It would be greatly appreciated.
    Amy
PS: I have been searching in the meantime and the only solution seems to be to remove Firefox 4 and download it again. I am afraid to do this and loose my information. I have hundreds of bookmarks that I use all of the time.

Here is a report of some of my crashes since downloading Firefox 4. I could not fit all of them in here. I had over 26,000 characters and maybe 100 crashes.

  • Cannot access Printer Properties

I have quite a few users who are having a problem when they try to print from FF 22.0. When they try to print a webpage, email, document, etc. and go into the Properties for the printer to change it from Letter to Legal, or Legal to Letter, the item will not print. I've reset the printer in about:config and that didn't help. If I go into the prefs.js and remove the printers, close FF and reopen that helped, however the next day, I get another call from the users w/ the same issue. Is there a fix, or workaround? I don't really have time to edit the prefs.js file every day for 100+ employees.
    Thank You for any help.

Nothing I can see. This is on a Citrix environment as well, so all users are using the same version of FF and same plug-ins, but not all users seem to be affected. I'm looking at printer drivers to see if there could be something there.

  • Windows 7 32-bit and accessing printer properties

A cheque printing device (an HP LaserJet P3005 PCL6 / Troy MICR printer) is installed on a Windows 7 PC and shared.  The printer is installed as a local printer on a Windows Server
2008 Standard R2 server with its port configured to the share name on the PC.
When printing a file from, say, Notepad on the server, the job goes on to the queue, but the printer shows as “Needs troubleshooting” and the job doesn’t print.  Restarting the server’s
Print Spooler server service makes it print.
The same printer is also installed as a local printer on another server that’s running under Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, and printing from there works fine.
I suspect that there’s a communication problem between the Windows 7 PC and the Windows Server 2008 Standard R2 server.
I’ve tried to access the printer’s configuration on the Windows 7 PC to look at its “SNMP Status Enabled” setting, but get “An error occurred during port configuration.  This operation is
    not supported”.
Is the SNMP status the issue here?  Is there a solution?

    Hi,
When did this issue happen? Did it work fine previously? Is the printer shown as online or offline?
Regarding to "SNMP Status Enabled", some printing issues can be caused by this option, you can find more infromation in the link below

This update has fixed some printer performance issue, I suggest you install this update and check if it can make any difference

  • Print properties fail, Dell A920 printer. I require B&W prints only

I cannot access print properties on my Dell A920 printer so as to select B & W prints only. Their is no error on the older Firefox 3.6 and MS Explorer, and my printer works fine with these browser systems
My error message reads on the current Firefox browser:
function address caused a protection fault (exception code OxCo0000005) The application sheet pages may not function properly.

The ColorSync setting will not change the color or b&w setting. There must be another menu where you can select color or b&w.
In theory this setting would be located in the same location on both Mac's. But if you used a CD to install the 10.6 driver versus downloading the 10.7 driver from Apple, then the color setting could located under different menus.

  • Adobe Reader X cannot respond to printer properties number of copies issue

    Hi to all!
I have an issue using Adobe Reader X 10.0.1, 10.1.0, 10.1.2, when select File > Print > Page Handling: Copies = 1, click Printer Properties > Page Setup, specify eg. Copies : 5, it print 1 copy only instead of 5 on Windows platform.
Happen to a number of printers, eg. HP, Epson, Xerox, Canon, Brother printer, etc.
For some reason, Adobe Reader X cannot respond to the No. of copies specified in the printer properties.
Anyone have any solutions or workarounds to solve this issue besides specifying Adobe Reader X : File>Print>Page Handling: 5 copies?
Is there any website, forum, supporting documents, with regards to above scenario?
Please kindly advice, thank you in advance!

    Hi LoriAUC,
    Sorry for the late response!
The users had a habit of going into the printer properties to specify other printer options eg. 2-sided printing, manual feed printing, heavy paper, etc... besides the number of copies inside the printer properties as well. Therefore, they prefer to do all the various changes in the printer properties instead of changing it at the Adobe Reader dialog.
The same method were applied by all the users in Adobe Reader 9.4.7 and there were perfectly no issue at all! All the network printers (23 different brands and models in the network) responded to the printer properties "number of copies" accordingly.
It seems that Adobe Reader X dialog Page Handling: No of copies, cannot synchronise and recognise the "No of copies" specified in the printer properties. This symptom was tested and found to be the same behaviour for different printer manufacturers. Wonder if there is a bug with Adobe Reader X as this issue did not occur for Adobe Reader 8 and 9 versions. The users were using Reader 8 and 9 versions before and there were no complaints until it was eventually all upgraded to Reader X, starting from 10.0.1, 10.1.0 and now 10.1.2.
What do you think could be the cause?

  • SplWOW64 Service APP Crash when Print Spooling from a 32bit Application

Wanted to throw out an informational post to hopefully save some people some time!
The issue that I encountered is related to users running Windows 7 64-bit trying to print from a 32-bit application.
This started as what I thought was a QuickBooks issue and after too many hours of debugging came back to an error with the splWOW64 Spool Service.
If you are in Firefox you will get an "Error encountered while printing" or in QuickBooks you will get about 5 different Cannot Connect to Printer Errors. You can view the error in the Event Viewer from Administrator Tools. The error is an APP CRASH
    related to the sqlWOW64 Service.
To fix this error you will need to Manually Restart the Print Spooling Service from Services. To get there go:
    Start->Right Click on Computer-> Manage
After you have restarted the service (or you can restart the computer) go to your Devices and Printers accessible from the Start Menu. Follow these steps to disable Spooling:
Right Click on the Printer and Select Printer Properties
    Select the Advanced Tab
Click the Radio Button next to "Print Directly to Printer" instead of the top option to spool.
Try to print from any 32-bit application.
If this doesn't resolve the issue and you are using a network printer you may need to update the drivers for the printer manually instead of find
    From the Devices and Printers:
    Add a Printer
    Add a Local Printer
Create New Port -> Select TCP/IP
    Enter in the IP Configuration
When it asks you to Select a printer hit Windows Update to Update the Printer Drivers
After this is complete Select your printer.
When Prompted use the Replace driver option
Make sure the Settings for the printer are the same as listed above
Hopefully this will save some troubleshooting time and Microsoft can get 32 bit print spooling fixed!

If you have an older HP printer, there is a QFE for splwow64.exe.  You can determine which file is causing the process corruption as well if you wanted to narrow this down further.  I assume you already picked up the QuickBooks fix for this issue
    as stated in this post

  • ITunes crashes when changing properties for Printer in Windows XP

I know this has similarly been posted already, but since the post I read had been ARCHIVED, I could not respond to it. (In my experience) Its not the fact that the properties button was pressed on the Print window of iTunes, but that an option in the properties dialog was pressed. Several options ARE available. I have a Dell Photo Printer 720 installed. The software included has several options for printing. The main page has 3 tabs: Quality/Copies, Paper Setup, Print Layout. All of the options work on all of the tabs. The problem comes in when you use the drop down menus from the top of the properties window. (of wich there is a save properties dialog) The drop down windows are basically Wizards to better help you complete your task, by asking you what you want to do. If you can refrain from using thoes drop downs, whatever changes you make to the rest of that window will be allowed. This is definutly something for the design team to look into, even if (for me that is) I can still alter printer properties, from what i understand most people can't access the properties at ALL! Side note, I also have an older HP DeskJet 722c installed on another computer with no problems accesing the properties window. Im sure it has something to do with the fancy drop down windows in the Dell version, as they STAY open until you click the close button.

  • Pages '08 Crashes before printing

Any time I try to print from Pages '08 it immediately crashes.
    Any thoughts?

I believe I've found the solution to this issue, at least on my system. My printing issues started when I installed the HP Device Manager Software to control the scan and copy functions. At that point, printing would not work as described above, and by others. By removing and re-adding the printer, I was able to successfully print in iWork, iLife, Preview, etc. To remove a printer, go to System Preferences-> Print & Fax. Select your Photosmart printer, and hit the minus button below. Then re-add the printer by hitting the plus button.

  • When I click on the Moilla button on my desktop, the firefox start page that shows up has no Mozilla button to access print, history. options etc., it just says mozilla firefox start page at the top. rt page tc.

When I click on the Mozilla icon on my desktop, a mozilla firefox startpage come up that has NO mozilla button to click and access print, history, options etc. Also the whole page automatically shifts down slightly to show only google question box and no address bar. Also, there used to be a place where I could click on most accessed pages, but that disappeared a couple of weeks ago. I have an HP computer and never know what the start page will look like.

    Hey plainmad,
Did you recently upgrade Firefox? I would be willing to be that everything is still there, it's just hidden. Take a look [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36 this article]. It will give you some tips on how to bring back any of the options you might not see.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I have a new 64bit computer to which I have transferred all my files and re-installed all my programsWhen I try to print a page using Adobe Acrobat 9, Firefox crashes. This has never happened before, and does not happen with other browsers.

I have a new computer. I transferred all my data files and installed my programs. Now, when I try to print a page ti pdf using Adobe Acrobat 9, Firefox crashes, and Adobe hangs up.

Thanks for your reply cor-el. I had never heard of nor seen the pref network.http.max-connections until I read about it in some of the replies in this support forum. People were saying 256 was the old setting and a new setting of 48 would correct my problem. When I followed the instructions to get to - see - and change the setting I discovered that my network.http.max-connections was already set to 48. I never did this. The only way I can think of that this setting was changed is that it happened by an automatic update to my Firefox browser. So, the problem I have was probably happening while this setting was at 48 all along. It is still set at 48 and I am still having the same problem. I will try as you suggest and set it to 30 and see what happens. I'll let you know the results. That's again for your response.

  • Print issue with splwow64.exe

We have an application (Acomba 9.57 32-bit) that is sequenced by APPV 5.0 SP2.
Users cannot print inside the software. Also, when the application is started, we cannot print in Adobe Reader or in any applications from Office 2010 32-bit.
By executing the application, it creates a process called «splwow64.exe». It seems to be inside the «bubble» and makes printing not working.
We found out that opening the printer dialog from Word or Adobe Reader before launching the virtualized application, it calls «splwow64.exe» and the application (Acomba) can now print.
Is it possible to make the virtualized application uses a non-virtualized «splwow64.exe» ?

    Hi,
Finally the problem comes from HP Printer Status notification Pop-Ups (SNP) in the Universal Printer Driver. Enable or disable COM isolation mode doesn't make a difference. As said previously, the splwow64.exe process opens when the Appv application is
lauch. When the Appv application (32 bits) prints to the UPD queue, the splwow64 process doesn't seems to look at the HP UPD registry keys under the current user profile. Instead, the Appv apps create new registry keys in the user profile "bubble".
There is one particular key that broke the printing:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HP SSNP\SSNPHwndId
This key is recreate under user "bubble". If this key is deleted in the "bubble", the printing works. But every print jobs recreate that key, so we need to delete again. Strange, but the SSNPHwndId value is the ID of HP Printer Status notification
Pop-Ups (SNP) instance and is NEVER the good one in the "bubble". Everytime the key is recreate, the ID change.
The workaround for now is to disable HP SNP in the printer queue. We get the default print notification window, that is fine. But we are curious if we can do something or is just a bug in appv.
We did all tests with a plain Windows 7 x64 SP1 up to date, latest HP UPD driver. Just in case, we leave this computer outside the domain to be sure no GPO is applied.
    Thanks

If you have set this phone up, then there would not necessarily be a solution here until you have been verify with the provider that everything is provisioned correctly on their end. Since the 3G comes from your cellular provider, if the settings are correct on the phone, then you should work with the carrier next.
