Splwow64.exe error

Hi.
Our users are getting all of a sudden the follwing error when they try to print on our Xerox printers:
splwow64.exe - System Error
The program can't start because x2utili6.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
The users are local admins on their workstation, the printers are mounted automatically by GPO, these are Windows 7 x64 machines, it is affecting not all users (i can print myself without any issue).
I have tried restarting the spooler service and delete the C:\WINDOWS\SPOOLER\PRINTERS files without any luck.
The dll file is located in two places:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\x2univx.inf_amd64_neutral_0d51743efa7abccc
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3

Hi there!
I've been getting the same error as well, I'm going to try and give a good run-down of what I've been seeing and what I've done. Note that so far, only 2 confirmed cases out of several hundred (with a few unconfirmed users that we happened to come across
printers printing gibberish pages, hundreds of them (another symptom))
First, we have a print cluster, and the users (DL and DG) are trying to print to ColorQube 9201's and WorkCentre 7435's respectively. Interestingly enough, each user can print to the printer the other user cannot. Both are Xerox printers. And both users
are running Windows 7 32 bit.
Let's start with user DL:
We add CQ9201 and do NOT set it as default printer. Open Notepad, type up something, try to print - the error doesn't come up (note that it says NOTEPAD.exe or POWERPOINT.exe, when running powerpoint, and not splwow64.exe in the title bar) We can then choose
a printer just fine and it prints just fine. If we choose the CQ9201, it does NOT give the errors but will print hundreds and hundreds of "gibberish" pages (ascii code basically) NOW, if we have CQ9201 selected as default printer and try to print, it gives
the error about 3 times (each time you click ok) the print dialog comes up, and hundreds of gibberish pages.
For user DG it is the same thing except you can replace CQ9201 with WC7435. Keeping in mind that DG can print fine to a CQ9201 and DL can print fine to a WC7435.
Troubleshooting Done:
removed/readded printers via name and IP - no change
installed print drivers from xerox manually - no change
tried printing from under a different profile on affected machine - no change (DL was moved to a new machine, problem doesn't exist)
moved x2utilE6.dll from a tested working machine to DL's old machine, replacing the DLL in question, rebooted - no change (I also tried to manually register the DLL via regsvr32 but got the "was loaded but entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found" error
Currently user DG is the 2nd case I've seen DIRECTLY RELATED TO A USER (like said, there have been tickets for printers doing the gibberish printing, and I've wandered by and found and stopped some printers doing that), and I don't have hands on on his machine
(HP8560p) I have hands on on DL's machine which is an IBM T500.
I know I'm missing things and this is likely a complete mess, but we're trying to figure out what is going on and figure it might help to have some more input on the issue as when I was troubleshooting it before, there were zero entries on this in google.
Yours is the first.
Right now, I've just run sfc /scannow on DL's computer and it came back 100% complete - did not find any integrity violations.
OH! and Malware Bytes reports nothing, as does our Corporate AV solution (Mcafee)

  • Save as PDF generates SPLWOW64.EXE error

    Just moved to new Windows 7 box
    Using Frame v 8.0p236
    Have book, used Save as PDF option, click "Set".
    Get a popup box with big red "X" says: c:\windows\SPLWOW64.EXE
    Ideas?
    TIA,
    Theresa

    Stuck files in the queue sounds like a problem I had with Acrobat X. The
    10.0.1 patch broke the Adobe PDF printer, so that it tried to use the
    COM1: port, instead of the Documents or Desktop port. (You can check for
    this by right-clicking the Adobe PDF printer, choosing "Printer
    Properties," then selecting the "Ports" tab.) In fact, it deleted those
    ports! (Here's a link to that problem:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/893/cpsid_89330.html). The result was PDFs that
    would not print, and would be left stuck in the printer queue. The fix
    was to delete the Adobe PDF printer, then run the Acrobat repair option
    to regenerate it. You might want to do this. Following are the
    directions for Windows 7. Windows XP instruction are included at the
    link above.
              *Windows Vista (UAC on, nonadmin user), Windows 7 (UAC on,
              admin user)*
    1. Close all PDF files.
    2. Go to Printers and Faxes (Windows XP), Printers (Vista) or Devices
        and Printers (Windows 7).
    3. Right-click the Adobe PDF printer and click Delete (Windows XP,
        Vista) or Remove Device (Windows 7).
    4. Enter the admin credentials. This step deletes the Adobe PDF printer.
    5. Go to Programs and Features (Vista and Windows 7).
    6. Select Adobe Acrobat X Pro or Standard and click Change.
    7. Select Repair and follow instructions to complete repair.**
    By the way, I don't think this was mentioned earlier, but another cause
    of problems with PDF generation is having more than one installation
    and/or version of Acrobat, Adobe Reader, or the PDF creation add-on that
    comes with FrameMaker installed simultaneously. If you have Acrobat, you
    should NOT have Adobe Reader or the PDF creation add-on installed on the
    same computer, and you should have only one version of Acrobat installed.

    Hi,
    Based on your description, I suggest you should firstly go to Event Viewer and check if you can find some detailed clues. Meanwhile, please let me know the completed
    error message that you can get.
    In addition, would you please let me know the Windows Server 2003 R2 that you use is 32-bit OS or 64-bit OS? The Splwow64.exe will load files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
    Please compare with a normal computer and check related DLL files if all are OK under the folder.
    Then please check and update the printer drivers. Monitor if this issue still persists.
    By the way, there is a similar question for Splwow64.exe. The questioner provided a solution. Please refer to and check if it’s helpful for your current situation.

  • Windows 8.1 issue explorer.exe error on shutdown NOT resolved and painfully slow bootup

    Hi,
    I have a brand new HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 8 64bit. I just downloaded the free update to 8.1. And then problems started.
    First off, the boot up time has almost doubled. Just before the desktop becomes visible, there is a 10 second period where all you see is a black screen. At times this is more than 10 seconds. Then the desktop wallpaper can be seen.
    Secondly, the most annoying problem-, everytime I shutdown or restart , I get an explorer.exe error saying memory cant be read some instruction referenced memory at 0x00000000. ?! What the h-- is this ? I mean is this what we expect to see after updating to
    Windows 8.1 ? This is ridiculous. There is no offical response from the developers either. This is affecting many people all over the world and there is not even any official patch or announcement ?
    I have read similar posts here and none of the solutions work. Someone says edit the registry, someone says remove the bluetooth service from startup ?! nothing and stopping a bluetooth service should not be considered a solution. Why should I not be able
    to use bluetooth just to resolve this Windows 8.1 error ??
    Please fix this problem urgently. And DO NOT ask us to re-install windows... I mean come on.. You think people have nothing better to do than installing/reinstalling Windows throughout the day ?? Bandwidth does not come cheap everywhere in the world either.
    Please release a patch or some guidelines on fixing this problem ASAP.

    Hi, I have checked with that link on HP's site and for my product number it said that my laptop has been tested-Update your System from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
    HP has tested your Windows 8 PC with Windows 8.1 and has created update instructions.
    This is what they say. And I clicked on the Windows Store Icon >> Then I clicked on the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Tile >> Then I clicked Download Windows 8.1 Update ( over 3 GB ) waited for a couple of days >> Then clicked next a bunch of
    times >> Selected some options that it asked me >> Then waited some more >> some more waiting >> and in 2 weeks I had upgraded to Windows 8.1 >> Then the above PROBLEMS started...
    So, as a request to the tech team or dev team, pls fix this issue.

  • I can not resolve a plugin-container.exe error while processing payroll through ADP &have been unable to find the right fix for this. I can send error report.

    I have been receiving this error now for a few weeks and have been through multiple layers of IT help trying to resolve it with ADP/Chase Payroll services. When I go to print pay vouchers I get the plugin-container.exe error and I can not print the vouchers. I can provide screen shots if this would help. Can you please advise on how to proceed to resolve this?

    This is an issue with that plugin crashing, which isn't something we can really resolve for you. Try to disable it, find a replacement, update it, or contact their support

  • Print issue with splwow64.exe

    We have an application (Acomba 9.57 32-bit) that is sequenced by APPV 5.0 SP2.
    Users cannot print inside the software. Also, when the application is started, we cannot print in Adobe Reader or in any applications from Office 2010 32-bit.
    By executing the application, it creates a process called «splwow64.exe». It seems to be inside the «bubble» and makes printing not working.
    We found out that opening the printer dialog from Word or Adobe Reader before launching the virtualized application, it calls «splwow64.exe» and the application (Acomba) can now print.
    Is it possible to make the virtualized application uses a non-virtualized «splwow64.exe» ?

    Hi,
    Finally the problem comes from HP Printer Status notification Pop-Ups (SNP) in the Universal Printer Driver. Enable or disable COM isolation mode doesn't make a difference. As said previously, the splwow64.exe process opens when the Appv application is
    lauch. When the Appv application (32 bits) prints to the UPD queue, the splwow64 process doesn't seems to look at the HP UPD registry keys under the current user profile. Instead, the Appv apps create new registry keys in the user profile "bubble".
    There is one particular key that broke the printing:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\HP SSNP\SSNPHwndId
    This key is recreate under user "bubble". If this key is deleted in the "bubble", the printing works. But every print jobs recreate that key, so we need to delete again. Strange, but the SSNPHwndId value is the ID of HP Printer Status notification
    Pop-Ups (SNP) instance and is NEVER the good one in the "bubble". Everytime the key is recreate, the ID change.
    The workaround for now is to disable HP SNP in the printer queue. We get the default print notification window, that is fine. But we are curious if we can do something or is just a bug in appv.
    We did all tests with a plain Windows 7 x64 SP1 up to date, latest HP UPD driver. Just in case, we leave this computer outside the domain to be sure no GPO is applied.
    Thanks

  • AppleMoblieDeviceHelper.exe - error while setting up the environment...

    I am having problems with iTunes 8.2.1.6 on my Vista PC. I am getting the following two errors whenver I try to sync my iphone 3Gs:
    (1) 16bit MSDOS subsystem: c:\program files\common files\apple\mobile device support\bin\applemobiledevicehelper.exe - Error while setting up environment for the application. Choose 'close' to terminate the application. This error message continues to show up even when I hit 'close'.
    (2) iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try later.
    I have tried running both iTunes and applemobiledevicehelper.exe in administrator mode and that does not help. I have also tried reinstalling iTunes.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Sahil,
    To address your scenario, while creating the configuration, select all the required agreements to create one configuration and then deploy.
    Alternatively, you can also apply the latest patch MLR (10.1.2.3)

  • Getting NTVDM.EXE errors in itunes - keeps crashing

    Every time I start itunes I get a "16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem" error. Message reads...
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntvdm.exe
    Error while setting up environment for the application. Choose 'close' to terminate the application
    I then have the option to close or ignore it. If I ignore it I can still access the app store and stuff but when I go to sync my iphone itunes locks up and I have to go to task manager to end the program. What do I do? (this started with the latest itunes update... now I can't even update my iphone because it goes into a permanent backup loop (I have had to kill it after 12 hours a few times!)HELP!!!

    I don't have an answer for this, but from first principles here are some things to try.
    Since the problem occurs when you plug in your iPad there may be a problem with Apple mobile device support.
    Try removing iTunes and related programs using this method:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    Then reinstall.
    In case there really is a problem with ntvdm.exe, try running the system file checker:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
    And finally, in case other software is interfering with it try using MSConfig to check for conflicts.:

  • Java.exe Error while running Tomcat

    Hello,
    I encountered a very strange Java.exe error while testing my servlet.
    Here is the screen dump of the aforementioned error:
    http://www.shelleysauction.com/db07-22-02.jpg . The error's message is
    as follows: "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into
    drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1."
    Would appreciate any help; I don't claim to be any good at this stuff.
    All of the information on that page is derived from a database on a
    remote intranet machine (including input type, title, descriptions,
    etc.). I am not sure if it is a server-side error or a client-side
    error as my computer is running the server; another computer is not
    possible--I'm a lowly summer intern hired to build a servlet that
    interfaces with a database, and I'm not a good programmer.
    The only thing I can think of is that I recently began using the
    com.oreilly.servlet.* package for its Base64Encoder, Base64Decoder, and
    MultiPartRequest methods. That form was working fine for weeks before
    then.
    Jennica Humphrey

    Hello all,
    Thank you for your help. I was using the MultiPartRequest class in the com.oreilly.servlet.* package so I could add a "section" that allowed users to upload CSV files to the database. It required, I think, that an opening FORM tag would have the following attribute: enctype="multipart/form-data"
    Now, I made a HtmlGenerator class that writes the HTML for me, with all sorts of methods like html.startTableCell( String stylesheet, String align, String valign, String width ) so I could just type html.startTableCell( "palepurple", "left", "top", "50%" ); ... made reading my own crap a lot easier.
    Anyway, I had html.startForm( ) and html.startUploadForm( )... the only difference was that the upload one had the enctype="multipart/form-data" attribute and the first one didn't. Now, my DoPost() method was supposed to determine if there were "regular" parameters passed on by the form and if there were "MultiPart" parameters... with code like this:
    // Initialize MultipartRequest.  This is required for file uploading.
    boolean isMulti = true;
    MultipartRequest multi = null;
    try {
         multi = new MultipartRequest( request, "..\\..\\Files", 10 * 1024 * 1024 );
    } catch( Exception e ) { isMulti = false; }
    Enumeration paramNames = request.getParameterNames();
    // Attempt to initialize parameter names.
    try {
         if ( !paramNames.hasMoreElements( ) ) paramNames = multi.getParameterNames();
    } catch ( Exception e ) {
         /* Ignore */
    ***code snipped out***
    if ( isMulti )
          paramValues = multi.getParameterValues( paramName );
    else
         paramValues = request.getParameterValues( paramName );This was working fine, but after submitting "regular" (not uploaded) forms 3 or 4 times, it'd give me that error. Then I decided to change html.startForm() to work exactly like html.startUploadForm()--in effect making every form a MultiPartRequest. It works fine, without any errors. Do you know what was going on?

  • Svchost.exe errors after installing iTunes 7.0.1.8

    I have two computers that starting throwing svchost.exe errors immediately after installing iTunes 7. First it happened on my desktop. In preparation to reinstall Windows XP on my desktop, I prepared my laptop to use while my desktop was out of commision. I installed iTunes 7 and immediately I started getting svchost.exe errors. I don't have the blaster worm on either machine (already checked). My desktop is behind three firewals, runs Norton, and I already did a full virus scan on both.
    This is causing significant problems as my computer can't see the network, outlook can wig out, and in general my machine is unpredicatable. I hate to think that installing iTunes 7.0 leads to the need to reinstall Windows. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate any help.

    I changed my "Startup Type" for "Terminal Services" from "Disabled" to "Manual". Resolved issue.
