SplWOW64.exe is freezing up 32bit programs and halting printing on 64bit Windows 7

I work IT for a bank with 600+ PC's (and just as many impatient users) and this issue is driving us up a wall. Here's the low down:
SplWOW64.exe as we know it is supposed to end itself 2 minutes after the last print job is finished. However, it does not. After some time of it not being terminated, it will completely block 32bit applications (like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office, and a few
internal programs) from printing, and can even cause these applications to FREEZE until this process is manually ended in task manager.
These problems are appearing on any Windows 7 64bit machines we have on our network (not all of them that we are aware of, but A LOT of them). All of our printers are also network printers using mostly universal drivers from the manufacturers, but we do
have some printers we use specific drivers for.
We have tried the 2 fixes out in the KB article (KB2815716), and neither have been working across the board for us. I believe the hotfix has worked on SOME of our PC's, but the majority of them are still experiencing this issue.
I can provide screenshots of how some programs are reacting to this process not responding (print button grayed out, freezing the app when attempting to print, freezing apps even when not trying to print) if it will help our cause.

Please correct me if I have misunderstanding:
1. The SplWOW64.exe doesn’t end itself and it will block the 32bit applications like Adobe Reader, office in the 64bit Windows7.
2. The issue only occurs in some of the Windows 7 computers.
Are they are domain-joined Windows 7?
Are there any differences between the normal and abnormal Windows 7 computer?
What specific drivers do you mean in the sentence ‘we do have some printers we use specific drivers for’?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories
and run the printer troubleshooter.
2. Update the printer drivers

    Driver program or print program both r same... u can call either driver program or print progam.
    Modifying the scripts depends upon your requirement,
    basically if u have standard scripts better to copy it to zscript then make the chages like adding company logo or adding the company address or adding the terms and conditon what ever u asked to do then use the same print program write the extra logic in a subroutine in an executable program and call this routine in the script.
    This is the method to modify the scripts with out modifying the print program because sometimes its not advisable to change the print program or
    u can copy the print program to z program and u can add u r extra logic into it

    How big is the database ? How much downtime can you afford ? One option is to install 10.2.0.1 on the target, apply the 10.2.0.4 patch, create an empty instance on target, then export the database from the source and import into target.
    Pl be aware that 10.2.0.1 thru 10.2.0.4 are on sustaining support and 10.2.0.5 is on extended support (if you have paid the extended support fees). Why not upgrade to 11gR2 ?

  • Firefox freezes at random times and I have to end process, restart to use it

    I have no problems with running Firefox.
    I got a new laptop, downloaded Firefox and have had problems with it randomly freezing. It will attempt to load a page, freeze and won't unfreeze no matter how long I wait. I have to open the task manager and end the firefox.exe process to close the program and restart it.
    My initial belief was that I may have downloaded a wrong bit version.
    I'm currently running Windows 7 with a 64-bit operating system. I am running Firefox 3.6.13.
    Any help?

    It sounds like you are getting in a hurry.
    If you force Firefox to close in a hurry, then it won't normally start until you re-start the computer. There are ways around this, but I'm not going to go into them right now.
    None-force way to close Firefox down: Close the program and wait. Do something else. Firefox appears as if it is closed, but it's not. Firefox cleans out cookies and it's cache after you close it. That takes a few minutes. You can't restart it while it's doing house cleaning.
    After it is done, then you can restart Firefox normally. You can watch it in the Task Manager.
    The same applies if you are installing javascript. You have to wait a few minutes.
    As for running it with multiple tabs, I usually have 5 or 6, or more, tabs open at a time. Have no idea what the problem is there. Firefox needs special permission by use of a pop-up option to close with multiple tabs open.

  • Crystal Report Runtime start splwow64.exe on windows 64 OS

    We are using the Crystal Reports runtime in our application. We are utilizing the runtime through the COM interface. Recently a client of us installed our application on windows 2003 64-bit. Now whenever a report is created windows starts splwow64.exe. As i understand this is a process started by windows to ensure compatibility with 32-bit. Normally this process is released when the job is done. However in our case the proces is never released and remains exclusively locked. Other application on the same machine also need this splwow64 process and this is now causing a problem.
    When the other applications on the server start splwow64 first it released when the job is done. It is only when creating a report (pdf) using the CR-runtime, it is never released.
    Any help would be very much appriciated!

    Hi Ronald,
    XI is past it's end of life so nothing we can do to fix it now. Try CR XI R2 ( 11.5 ) with Service Pack 6, it has a better chance of working on 64 bit OS's.
    Go to this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc and download the trial version of CR XI R2 and use your XI keycode, then apply the patches which you can get to by clicking on the BusinessObjects tab above, then Downloads.

    Searching on this dll it appears to be the 32 to 64 bit Thunking spooler that converts 32 bit print jobs into 64 bit jobs ( or the other way around ). CR only supports 32 bit runtime so it may be that your print driver has issues. If you can find one that is 32 bit only but works on 64 bit OS then that will likely resolve the issue.
    Otherwise I suggest you contact the printer manufacture and ask them how to make their 64 bit driver work with a 32 bit app.

  • Player/Software Freezes at 100% complete and locks up my compu

    I'm writing here for the first time to try and get an answer to my issue. I have already dealt with the firmware upgrade issue and that was really frustrating and this is at the same point. I have a 60 GB Zen Xtra MP3 player. I never had issues copying files to my MP3 player before, but recently it's become an issue. No matter what program I use and I have used Creative MediaSource Organizer, Windows Media Player or Real Player, I can't get my files to transfer. What happens is that everything starts off okay, the transfer file status moves fairly quickly, but once it hits 00%, it just hangs and doesn't totally complete the transfer. It ends up freezing up the program and I have to unplug my USB port from my player, otherwise it freezes my computer up and I end up having to shut it off manually.
    I don't want to waste my time emailing Creative's customer support as they didn't help me the last time with the firmware upgrade issue, just sent me some generic email response asking about my warranty. I actually found the solution digging through all the posts, so I hope someone else who has experienced the same issue and has a solution that works, I'm all ears.

    Well, thanks again for your attempts. I keep track of what is loading on my computer, especially at startup. I use the CCleaner program which enables you to either delete or stop any programs you choose at start up. Trust me, I have nothing running in the background when I'm doing this. My computer locks up ONLY when I attempt to copy MP3s from my computer to the player. This ONLY happens once the files status is at 00% and then and ONLY then, it locks up everything, unless I unplug my MP3 from computer, so it has to do with either the player or the software, I don't think it's a computer issue. Like I said before I never had issues until I downloaded and installed the new firmware for my player. Ever since I did that, I can't copy MP3s over to my player.
    I think reinstalling windows is a bit drastic. I think this issue will be resolved by doing something you wouldn't even think of. It reminds me of the firmware upgrade. A lot of people had the same issue of their computer not recognizing the player and it was finally discovered to be because of Windows Media Player version conflicting with the firmware upgrade. This new firmware upgrade has caused nothing but trouble since I've installed it. I'm afraid of what else it may do. I know Creative is supposed to put a patch out for the firmware problem, but I haven't seen it yet. That may resolve the problem, but who knows.
    So, if anyone has the same problem as me and finds a solution, I would love to know about it.

    im trying to upgrade this 9i database 32bits that is in red hat enterprise 3, to other server that has red hat enterprise 5 64bits, but i couldnt make it work. searching i realice that 9i isnt certified by oracle to work in red hat enterprise 5 and im thinking that the other problem is the difference in 32 to 64bits,
    so the next think i want to try, is making the upgrade to 10g in the source server (red hat enterprise 3 32bit) and then move this database 10g to the other server (red hat enterprise 5 64bit), looking Oracle Doc ID "+[ID 341880.1] How to convert a 32-bit database to 64-bit database on Linux?+" i found how to do it, but there isnt clear if the conversion of 32 to 64 can be make it between servers, i mean
    - taking 32bit database and copying to the 64bit server
    - make 32bit database work in the new server
    - convert the database from 32 to 64bit
    does anyone knows if this can be made or the path to make it?

    1.Perform cold backups of the existing Oracle9i
    2.install the 64-Bit release Oracle software on target
    3.Close 32bit db cleanly
    4.Copy 32 bit db files to target
    5.copy initora file (initsid.ora) to the new Oracle home and edit it(If your path will be same as your source than you may not need to edit this file)
    6. Than follow How to convert a 32-bit database to 64-bit database on Linux? [ID 341880.1] << step 9

  • CS4 Design Premium and Epson Printer Driver - 64 bit windows 7

    Have installed the printer driver for Epson R2400 printer. 64bit, windows 7.
    Can print from Outlook, Firefox although it takes about 10 seconds to bring up the print dialog box.
    Can't save or print from Illustrator, Photoshop or Indesign.
    Does anyone know what is clashing? When I uninstall the printer driver I can save files again.

    You should install windows 7 compatible printer driver therefore go to Epson - Select your location from the map, find the > Drivers &  Support link in the top menu, enter the product name into the >  Product Finder field or visually browse by category and device.

  • TS1717 Ever since I downloaded and installed iTunes64Setup.exe  v. 6.0.1, it crashes on my Windows 7 system, with the useless message, "iTunes has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program an

    iTunes64Setup.exe, even after multiple times of uninstalling and reinstalling with even a fresh download crashes with the message:
    "iTunes has stopped working.  A problem [unspecified] caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you IF a solution is available."  I cannot get out of this loop and it renders my iPad HD useless.  I tried calling the Apple Store but was referred by an automated system to this web site.  I tried looking up the problem in the FAQ but it didn't help.

    That is what I thought. Cannot figure out how to turn it off, though.
    However, when I talked to her over the phone, she is definitely using Firefox. I tried to access her Internet Explorer, but it has been deactivated, I believe by Firefox.
    She primarily uses the Internet to communicate with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Her e-mail account is with Yahoo Mail, and she uses Firefox to access it. Occasionally, she uses the web to look up information, and may have downloaded a virus.
    Do you think there's something in Yahoo Mail that conflicts with Firefox? Is there some remnant of Internet Explorer that needs to be deactivated? Could she have a virus?
    Any information would be gratefully appreciated. I live 7 hours away, and can only help her over the phone. I'm trying to develop a course of action that I can use with her. I know a little bit about Firefox, so need your expertise.
