Spoken books

Guten Tag,

If the spoken book has been imported as "Media Kind" "Music", I cannot change it either to Audiobook in iTunes 11.0.4.
I used a quick-and-dirty work-around and reimported the song as a podcast. Then the "Media Kind" can still be changed to "Audiobook" or "Hörbuch".
File>Get Info>Options>Media Kind
To convert the song to a podcast I simply imported it into a new GarageBand '11 project, added the album artwork as a jpeg to the podcast track and used GarageBands "Share" menu to share the podcast to iTunes.
You did not tell your system version in your original post. If you don't have GarageBand '11, try iMovie to share your song as a movie to iTunes.

  • Spoken book on cd

Hello I have a set of cd's that i copied to I tunes so i can listen on my I-pod. How can i get these MP3 's from music to spoken books in the library? Is that only possible if i purchased the items on i-tunes store?
POlease help me because all the titles are running through each other because I tunes didn't regognise the (dutch) book. Thanx for your answers!!

It's been covered here already, but take a look here:
    Converting CDs to iTunes Audiobooks
    That should get you sorted.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • Suffle 2nd Gen Loading Order Podcasts Vs Books & Spoken

When I load a podcast in my 2nd gen shuffle, it jumps to the start of the play list. Perfect when playing back in squential mode. I just hit play three times to jump to the start of the list.
But when I load a spoken book. It shows up at the back end of the playlist. I end up hitting play three times, to get to the start of the play list, Then hitting the back button 20 0r 30 times to get to spoken segment I want.
This seems a little backward to me.
If I change the Genre on the audio book from "Books & Spoken" to "Podcasts", will it jump to the head of the play list when it is loaded?
Or is there another thing to do to get the audio book to the front of the list?
Is there a document that lists the options in "Genre" and how it changes the audio file?

Just tried that and did not work. Also I do understand and have made podcast lists in the app. The problem for me is that when done with the podcasts I can't just reach down and get my Ipod unless my truck is not moving. Think safety of everyone on the roads.

  • Why is everything so complicated???

I have to say I am frustrated with my video iPod. Today I decided to download an audiobook (DaVinci Code). I did so and like soooooo many other people, nothing appears in the Audiobook section of the iPod. I suppose I could live with this but the other issue is that all the chapters are OUT OF ORDER. I have read and re-read the old posts about this problem and frankly, as a novice, I find it overwhelming and more importantly, extremely aggravating. I do not have the time or knowledge to do all the behind the scenes things necessary to fix it. If the chapters on the CD's were in numerical order it wouldn't be so bad but they aren't (some say "chapter _ _ _" and others say "The DaVinci code chapter _ _ _).
I just needed to vent. I feel that for beginners, using the iPod is way to complicated. Thanks for listening to me. Now I guess I'll go listen to my CD's in my car.......

I use my iPod to listen to books all the time. I have found that if I download the books from cds that it often gets quite complicated. (for instance none of the cds of Hilliary Clintons most recent book had her name as author show up ) I get all of my books through audible.... it is a great place. The itunes store uses audible so I am not being disloyal.
You can "buy" a large audible book for $9:95 which is less than I used to rent them for at Books on Tape. The transfer from your library to your iTunes to your iPod is easy. If you want to use spoken books... that is really much easier than feeding cds into the computer etc. I've been there.

  • Restart Ipod without sync? Please help!

Last week, I had a crash on my ibook, so I had to restart the operating system and the programs. This means that the itunes library is now empty, as well as iphoto. My ipod (5th gen) is full of music, spoken books and photos. I am very afraid to connect himnow to itunes, then I think there were will be automaticaly a sync and I will lose everything.

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts for OSX
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac. The procedure is a bit involved but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    iPodAccess Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    PodUtil Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Books & Spoken Word and Audiobooks

I downloaded some books on CD I have to itunes. One I converted to a "true" audiobook using instructions suggested elsewhere in the forums (what a hassle! I will probably just leave them "Books & Spoken Word" in the future). Other books I imported and left "Books & Spoken Word". Problems I'm having:
    1) The "true" audiobook appears and reappears in iTunes under Audiobooks. Even though I couldn't see it in iTunes at the time it did successfulyy sync to the iPod and I can listen to it just fine. I go back to iTunes it's there -- then it's not.
    2) Some the books on CD I loaded show up fine in iTunes and iPod but one doesn't "Italian Immersion". I see it in Genre "Books & Spoken Word" in iTUnes but it is no where to be found on the iPod.
Thanks for any ability to demystify what's going on. It shouldn't be this inconsistent!

As you found out, in order to be in the audio book section of the iPod it needs to be a "true" audio book.
This is done by making it a .m4b file type. No other way.
Once you understand how to do it, it should be fairly simple.
Here's a link if you don't remember how or where you did it -> How do I get my audiobook to appear in the Audiobooks menu on my iPod?

  • How do you move a spoken word book from Music to Books

At some time I managed to include some spoken word books into my Library under MUSIC.  For clarity, I want to move them to the BOOKS section of the Library. Drag and drop does not work and I have not found any other way to accomplish this. If you know how, please answer. Thanks.

Still require some help.    The reply I received did not help me. At least, I was not able to straighten out my iTunes Library to move some audio books out of music. (See answer and my reply to that)
Possibly this means that it is impossible to do the operation. If anyone has a different idea, I would appreciate your input.  Thank you.    6/11/2013

  • I would like to upload an audiobook from cd. iTunes uploads this as music even if I select "books & spoken". How to upload audiobooks?

I would like to upload an audiobook from cd. iTunes uploads this as music even if I select "books & spoken" as "CD info". How to upload audiobooks?

Thanks, but the given instructions (Audiobooks on iPods) do not apply to iPhone/iPad 7.0.2 on iTunes/Win 11.1.1.11. The software asks whether to import the CD, select the media type (and there is no "Audiobook" to select") - and starts importing. All the book appears among the music files.
-Or... once it has happened, is there a way to move it to audiobooks?
    OK

  • Spoken text as book not music.

I've transfered audio study guides from Tape to my ITunes and IPod. Problem it comes up as music. And when I play my IPOD in shuffle mode, it plays parts of my study guide when I want to listen to music. I know I can create a seperate list of songs and shuffle within that list, BUT I WANT TO CLASSIFY MY STUDY GUIDE TRACKS AS AUDIO BOOKS INSTEAD OF MUSIC. AND HAVE IT SHOW UP IN MY AUDIO BOOK LIST. Anyone know how I can do this?

    Hi CDW1215,
If you are having issue importing audio books because of the play order, you may find the following article helpful:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Import songs from CDs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12486
    Join CD tracks
When you import songs from a CD into iTunes, you can group songs so they always play together (even when you’re shuffling songs).
Insert an audio CD into your computer’s CD or DVD drive, and click No in the window that appears.
When the songs on the CD appear in the iTunes window, hold down the Shift key to select the ones you want to join.
Click near the top-right of the iTunes window, and choose Join CD Tracks.

  • How can I make a book/podcast listening playlist for a blind person?

How can I make a book/podcast listening playlist for a blind person? How can lots of content be loaded, so that no navigation is required, for hundreds of hours of enjoyment?
I wanted to create a single playlist with hundreds of hours of books and podcasts for my grandmother who is blind. Then I planned to use something like the app CarTunes which basically makes the touch screen simply a gigantic pause/play button for an already created playlist.  This is perfect for a blind person. The problem: Apple no longer allows you to have a playlist with Audible Books and Podcasts. I have tried; but the podcasts and books are stripped from the playlist. It seems like all podcast and book players require navigation. (How aggravating!?)
Any help in creating hundreds of hours long spoken (selected between books and podcasts) audio content playlist for a blind person would be much appreciated!!!!

Well, good news and bad news. I found out how to tell iTunes that all my music videos are, in fact, actual "music videos" and categorize them as such. In the "Get Info" screen for a track, there is a dropdown selector where you can pick the "meta" type, such as "Music Video", "Home Video", "Movie", "TV Show", etc. This allows iTunes and iOS to think they are all music videos and play them in the same list.
Unfortunately, this is not compatable with my third party device, which is now refusing to play my music videos in a playlist and will only play them one at a time (in a single-track infinite loop no less). Very frustrating!

  • CD songs load as Audio book tracks. How can I get them into  music library?

    Greetings.
Strange. Some songs I've imported into iTunes from CDSs load into the Audiobooks folder. I can't drag them into the music folder. In one case, one song from one CD - but not any of the others - will only import as an audiobook. I can't even import it from my
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can get the songs into the music library?
    Thanks.

    In iTunes 8:
Select Track(s) > right click > get info
    Options tab > Media Kind
if you want the track to appear in Music select Music or Audiobook if you want it in the Audiobook tab.
It's also useful to set the Genre of audio books to something common (spoken, audiobook etc)

  • Buying a Book via Aperture is the worst experience I've ever had

I have given up trying to buy a book via Aperture forever. I've wasted an entire day trying to get this done, and Ive gotten nowhere, I have spoken to Apple Photo Services numerous times and followed everything they said to the letter and on four occasions it has failed to "Upload to files to the server"
I have checked my account, tried different payment methods, tried different ISPs (one being a 100mbps synchronous fibre MPLS circuit, so it's nothing to do with speed), I have deleted the Aperture keychain entry, exported the book to a separate library, even tried it on a different machine and still nothing.
I now have 4 orders currently "processing", at £58.94 each, so currently Apple have over £200 of my money authorised for transfer.
It is a real shame that Apple ignores these forums, and that Aperture is such a neglected program. At least I am not trying to run a business using this POS.
Part of me wants to go on an Aperture training course just to shout at someone from Apple.
Anybody know of a good 3rd party book printing services that can use the PDFs output by Aperture?

Once the book is printed you then have the frustration of tracking the book from the printworks near Prague, travelling for approximately 3 hours a day, eventually taking about a week to travel the 900 or so miles to the UK, if it gets stuck in Germany on a Friday evening it will not move again until the Monday morning.
Only one class of shipping is supported "Snail speed" it would be very nice to opt for a faster speed.
However once the book is handed over to the final recipient the obvious pleasure they get from it is fantastic compensation for the niggles.

  • Oracle 10g book 'A Beginners Guide'

I am trying to work through this book from Oracle Press/McGraw-Hill/Osbourne ISBN 0-07-223078-9 but it does not come with the sample data. I have spoken to Oracle in Australia and they say it is not actually an Oracle book, just their name all over it. Does anyone have any idea on where I can get the sample data?
    TIA Regarsd Peter

Hi Jens, what McGraw Hill could have put in their book somewhere (preferably at the start) was that the sample data they were using is from the 10g sample data base that you can chose to install at setup time. The next problem was that some of the tables are public synonyms so I was not necessarily able to see them as tables depending on whop I was logged on as. (as opposed to using desc) The download URL you pointed to is actually the sqls etc but anyway I have it figured and going like a rocket. Thanks again for your input and I hope it helps some others.
