Spontaneous restarts since upgrade

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion my Mac Pro has been spontaneously restarting every now and then - I then get an error message that 'your computer restarted because of a problem'. It's happened several times this morning as I tried to uninstall some software. I've run Disk Utility on the HD (it was ok) and repaired permissions but that hasn't helped.
Any ideas gratefully received.
Here is the latest Panic report with headers removed.
Thank you.

Although it's not exactly the same issue, when I AirPlay a live basketball or football game using the Pac-12 Now app on my iPad to my HDTV, the stream shuts off after a certain number of minutes unless I set Auto-Lock to Never.

    Hi,

  • MacBook Pro randomly restarting since upgrading to Mavericks. Help!

Ever since I downloaded Mavericks, my 2010 MacBook Pro is randomly restarting due to a GPU panic. I tried all the trouble shooting suggested by apple support via telephone (updating software, reinstalling mavericks, repairing disks). It is still restarting 4-5 times a day at least. I read it could be an issue with my model of MacBook, but it has been more than 3 years since I purchased it (almost 4 years). It never restarted when I was running 10.6. Why would it all of a sudden start doing this? Anyone have any luck with them replacing the hardware for free even though it was past the 3 years? Please help! I can't downgrade my operating system, as I need to run Lightroom 5 and it is not compatible with 10.6. Thank you!

    tccsp11,
yes, sinve you’re getting GPU panics, your MacBook Pro is probably suffering from the defect described here. It’s a hardware defect, so the problem was always latent; one possible reason for it starting under Mavericks is that perhaps Mavericks switches to the NVIDIA GPU to perform some tasks (for better performance) that Snow Leopard didn’t switch for. One person reported that he was able to get the servicing done gratis, but he lives in Singapore, so I don’t know if e.g. Singapore consumer protection law played any part in that. If you need to run Lightroom 5, then it sounds as though you’re going to need to confirm whether your NVIDIA GPU has the defect or not, so you might as well make an appointment at your closest Apple store to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro.

  • Bluetooth settings for BT Arc Mouse lost on restart since upgrade

Upgraded OSX last night and on restart my Bluetooth BT Arc Touch mouse is not working.
I remove the mouse from the bluetooth settings and, resetting the mouse, it then finds the device and I pair the mouse again.
    It works!
Then when I shutdown my MacBook Pro, next time I switch on the mouse does not work again.  Its showing as "Not Connected" in the bluetooth settings.
    Very, very frustrating.
Have downloaded latest Arc Touch mouse drivers but no fix.
    Any ideas?

    PS.
In menu bar, bluetooth icon states "Bluetooth: Not Available".
    Bluetooth is switched on.
The mouse is blinking red and green which means "Device is discoverable (trying to connect to the transceiver)."

Since upgrading iMac to osx lion I have been experiencing problems in mail, it spontaneously stops receiving and tells me it can't find the pop server and also the biggest problem is that when I send with an attachment the recipient doesn't receive it.
I have to restart mail most times before it starts recieving or recognizes the pop server.
As I said a lot of recipients do not recieve my mails when there is an attachment or when I reply to their email.

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between  Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015

  • Since upgrading my iPhone 4 has been acting erratically.  Finally tonight it has totally died.  Cannot restart, no response at all.  I don't know what to do.  Help!

Since upgrading to iOS 6 my iPhone 4 has been acting up and tonight it has totally died!!!  No response at all.  Please help what can I do?

I suggest contacting apple support...I know in Australia it's 1300 321 456...Not sure what it is for where you are, try this website http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57. Alternatively, if you haven't already, sync it with iTunes. If the iPhone's not been synced before, try holding the power and home buttons down at once. That should reboot the phone. Might sound stupid, but make sure it's fully charged first.

Any remedy for disappearing file folder and applications icons since upgrading to Yosemite?

@Steve_Clairman, if you are looking for the orange Firefox button (abbreviated menus), it will appear if you turn off the classic menu bar:
View menu > Toolbars > ''uncheck'' Menu Bar

Hi Shane.  Not much in the way of thoughts - - but fwiw:
    How is the drive attached?
Can you open large files on the drive with other programs?
Are you running any drive compression or acceleration programs (some drives arrive with these installed)?
Can you reformat the drive and try again?
    Hi Kirby,
I attached the UltraMax Plus with a USB cable. The UltraMax powers the cable so power is not an issue. I can open other files. Also, there is 500GB of files on the drive so I cannot re-format it. Although, I noted I could import the entire Aperture Library. However, I do not want to create a duplicate on my machine because that would be defeating the purpose of the external drive.
    Thanks,
    Shane

  • Spontaneous restarts

Since installing snow leopard, my mac mini ocassionally does a spontaneous restart. The screen goes blue, then a couple seconds later everything restarts again. There are no chimes or anything, I just lose whatever I was working on at the time. Has happened twice in 5 minutes so far this morning.

I'm getting the same logout/start problem. Running a Mac Pro I bought in April (see specs below). This happens randomly when I'm typing on my standard wired Apple A1243 keyboard. It's not a complete restart, and only takes a few seconds, but everything I had opened is closed, and only my "Open At Login" applications are available. Typically, I have Thunderbird open (for email), Palm Desktop, and Firefox (my browser): these are my standard apps, and were the ones open when this just happened again. It happens about once a day, and I had thought I'd hit upon an undocumented key-combination to restart it - but this time I was just typing text on my keyboard.
If it's a conflict with these programs, does anyone else have these open when it happens? (I also just remembered that I had my Brother laser printer turned on when this happened this time - I'll try to see if that is a common element.)
I did not have this problem before upgrading to Snow Leopard.

OK, more problems. Spontaneously restarting, Firefox unexpectedly closing/crashing. I uninstalled Bongiovi but it still shows up in crash reports. I do not want to uninstall memory unless the latest report below definitely indicates that the memory upgrade is for sure the issue:

  • Macbook Pro spontaneously restarting

Since upgrading to OS X 10.9 my Macbook Pro has been experiencing an issue with spontaneous reboots.  There has been no real rhyme or reason for when it occurs, but when it does the entire systems is restarting.
I've taken my system to the Genius Bar for service, and no hardware issues were discovered.  All they could surmise was that something was corrupt in the OS and had me do a "in place re-install" of OS X.  This seemed to help for a while, but after about 10-days the restarts are back.
    Diagnostics performed thus far:
Apple Hardware Test (Quick & Extended) - Both passed
Genius Bar Hardware Test - Passed
    Reset SMC Controller
    Reset NVRAM\PRAM
I saw another user posting to the wrong thread that they too were having issues with spontaneous reboots.
Please post back if anyone has drawn a bead on the issue or resolution.

So I've done a couple of things that appear to have had positive results.
After visiting the Apple Genius Bar again on Monday 12/02, I really only had two choices - 1) re-install Mac OSX Mavericks after having reformatted my HDD; 2) leave my laptop with the Apple Store for more intense hardware diagnostics.  After sitting in the store the conversation lasted about 10-minutes and none of my options were something the technician could do for me during the visit.
Rather than leaving the laptop with them, I chose to complete the re-install myself.  I've also returned my 8GB memory upgrade (supposedly Apple memory per Amazon) and paid a little more for Kingston memory.  Once the memory arrived, I did follow through with the re-install.
Since installing the new memory, and completing the re-install, I believe the problem is solved.  We'll see after a few weeks of burn in time.
I really believe the 8GB "Apple" memory from Amazon was the culprit.  It being the root cause, I think the kernal panics were a symptom and they too caused other problems as the laptop spontaneously rebooted.
Kudos for Amazon!  After I passed along feedback from the Apple Genius Bar that the 8GB memory upgrade was NOT in fact Apple memory, they allowed me to return the memory for a full refund.
    Hope this helps others!

  • Since upgrading to the latest version of Firefox (15.0.1) any keystrokes I enter into the Google search box do not register.

Hope someone can help with this! Since upgrading to Firefox 15.0.1 most, but not quite all, keystokes I enter do not register. I've checked that my keyboard is working and it's absolutely fine with any other applications, including Internet Explorer which I've had to resort to using in order to post this question, as I can't fill in the fields using Firefox.

A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If input boxes work correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
Note that Safe Mode also disables hardware graphics acceleration. Before sorting through all your extensions, if you have noticed performance problems or display artifacts, try disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox (in normal mode).
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
(WIN) orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced<br>
(LINUX) Edit > Preferences > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
