Spool area full on Mac 10.6.6 with LaserJet CM1415

I am longer able to print to my LaserJet CM1415.  I presume that is because of the error message saying "Spool Area Full".  I tried deleting the printer, and adding it back again, but this did not have any effect (I still get the "Spool Area Full" message).  Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Have y'all reset the printing system?:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

I keep getting an error message that the "spools are full". Where do I find them and how to empty them?

You may be able to determine the reason for this error by examining your Mac's logs with Console. To do that find the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
    Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem. To do that choose Clear Display from Console's toolbar. Leave Console running while you choose Print from iPhoto again. Examine any new entries logged in Console. If there are any, copy and paste them in a reply.

  • Spool area full

    Hello there,
we are having an printing issue with one of the devices. The printer won't print. Instead, we the following message: Spool area full. The printer was deleted and reinstalled. Didn't change the situation. Anybody out there with a solution? Thanks for the feedback.

I went into the printer tech support & they worked through my issue successfully so this may be relevant - try your own printer tech support
On the printer, press the Ink Management button ( - for Touch Screen Models - the button on the touch screen that has all the colours), then press Test Print, press Print Quality, press Mono Start.
Follow the instructions on the printout and on the display of the printer. You may need to clean several times before you notice any improvement.

  • 6500A doesn't print. iMac w/OS 10.6.7. Message says spool area full.

My 6500A stopped printing from my iMac, although it does the test sheet fine.  (Test sheet can be requested OK from the computer, not just on the 6500A.)  OS is 10.6.7.  Thought problem was a low-ink warning, but installing the new cartridges hasn't gotten printing back.  HP Utility shows reception of the file and (briefly) a message that printing is 98 percent complete.  Then a moment later it stops, displaying a message that the "spool area" is "full."  The printer goes to "idle" and any indication of the file disappears.  Turning printer off (wait) and then on again hasn't corrected problem.  Is there some way to clear this spool area, so that the 6500A will actually print?  Thanks for any advice.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

What do I need to do differently?

The late, great Pondini was investigating that issue before he passed away.

I think there might be information there on how to reset Time Machine to do a full backup. I think you basically have to reset it and start over.

  • Where is the printer spool file on my Mac ?

I have a Mac Pro with 10.5.2 - and I print with 3 large Epson printers.
I had a print that started to print (Photoshop CS3)- and I saw that it was not what I wanted. I canceled the print in the Epson icon (on the dock) - and I shut down the printer and reset it.
But, when I turned the printer back on, the print started again.
Where is the file that holds prints - the printer que or printer spool file - on the Mac?
I have looked everywhere, and I cannot find such a folder anywhere. Anyone know where it is??
    I used the CUPS tool
    http://127.0.0.1:631/printers
to finally get rid of it, but I still would like to know where that file is kept.

Unfortunately, even though when Apple announced Handoff and Continuity and said Bluetooth 4.X was required, not all Macs with Bluetooth 4+ are compatible with Handoff. If the checkbox in System Preferences -> General isn't there, your Mac isn't compatible with Handoff. You can confirm that by going to "About This Mac" under the Apple Menu and then selecting "System Report." Then select Bluetooth in the upper left and see if your Mac is Handoff compatible. I'm typing this reply on a 2011 MacBook Air with Bluetooth 4.3.1 and running Yosemite but it's not compatible with Handoff.
You still will be able to make and receive phone calls on your Mac as long as your iPhone is within Bluetooth range. You can set that up in the FaceTime preferences. That's part of Continuity.
I have seen some instructions + software on the Web to enable continuity on Macs with Bluetooth 4+ that otherwise aren't compatible with Handoff. You'll have to do a web search if that's something you're interested in learning about.
    Wish I had better news.

  • How do I chat between users that are under one .mac/MobileMe family acct?

How do I chat between users that are under one .mac/MobileMe family acct? We are all under one account, but in different locations, using iChat 4.0.5 and OS 10.5.4. Thank you.

The only way is to create separate accounts under either AIM or Jabber (for example Googletalk). Then everybody logs into iChat with a different user and you can have full iChat functionality (except encryption which works only if you have different .mac accounts). If some members of your family have already a gmail/googlemail account then they can use this account information to log into iChat if you create a Jabber account with the gmail user information. Otherwise go to www.aim.com, request a screen name and use this user information to create an AIM account in iChat.
    Have fun.

  • Scracht disks are full

When Im using ilustrator or photoshop i have a little window saying
¨Could not complete the command because the scratch disks are full¨
    I have a 639,79 GB capacity
    Available 620.59 GB
    Used 19.2 GB
    Under about this Mac
    i have 13 GB
how can I do to fix this?

Instability is only a problem when programs run out of room completely and they are trying to use it as a scratch at the time such as in this case. That said often the space is preallocated so it wont be an issue anyway.
    The speed is degredation is
    a) partially due to fragmentation which happens as a partially filled disk is continually used rather than the amount of data on the drive. It's possible to have 0% fragmentation and 100% full
    b) drives will read faster at the outer areas of the drives (which spin faster in a relative sense) than at the centre of the drive platters. Depending on your formatting and drive type this may or may not be noticable.
specifying a percentage that should remain empty is meaningless as it will depend on how big your drives are, if they are raided at all, what they are used for etc. I wouldn't completely fill a system drive as this will cause problems but i also wouldn't waste 150Gb of space of a 500Gb drive for no good reason.

  • I am getting an error message that reads "Cannot ____ because the scratch disks are full. How do I go about clearing this? I have a Macbook. Thanks.

I have only had Photoshop elements on my computer for less than a month (free trial). The past few days I am getting an error message whenever I try to do anything that reads "Cannot __ because the scratch disks are full." I do not know how to fix this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If your program is Photoshop Elements (any version) you have posted in the wrong forum. Somehow your thread has been posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing).
Please re-post your thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum or wait for a moderator here to see your thread here and move it from here to there.

Think about.....Sounds like you do not have enough free hard drive space for editing. In your Photoshop Elements Mac case, please check out Photoshop Elements/Preferences/Performance and the Scratch Disk area.

  • I can not get the new updates because my start disc and hard drive are full, I need 1.98 GB.

I can not get the new updates because my start disc and hard drive are full, I need 1.98 GB.

Some folks recommend OmniDiskSweaper to allow you to review your stuff to find possible candidates to throw away.
Even if you throw away some stuff and your desired "1.98GB", then what?  If that's the number you need for the update, you'll just use most or all of the reclaimed space with the update and you are right back to where you started.
You don't specify what kind of machine you got but presumably it's a mac pro since you posted in the Mac Pro community.  In which case just get yourself another drive or two and move stuff around to free up your boot drive.
[Perhaps you should hurry too since I expect hdd prices might be going up due to possible impending hdd shortages.]
Finally, if some of those updates are major system updates you want extra drives for backups because I always recommend you never do major updates to your system without backups to that system.

  • Trying to figure out how to clear out the spool area for my HP printer on my 2009 IMac?

HP advised that I should clear out the spool area for my printer.  How do I do this?

    Hi patricia m.
I'm sorry to hear that you are encountering difficulties in clearing the spool area for your printer. It is rather "windows-centric" language as Mike indicated.  I believe that HP Support would have been referring to resetting your printing system and I have included a document on how to do that.
If you find after resetting your printing system that issue hasn't been corrected, please post some additional information and I would enjoy helping you resolve things.  I would need to know what model/product number of HP Printer you have, the version of Mac you are running, how the printer is connected (wireless, USB) and the issue you have encountered.
