  • Spool List output display 255 char when the rpt is run in Background

    Hi Friends,
I tried executing a program in Background.. The report output has more than 64 columns ( more than 255 char ) ..
Iam using "REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY" for displaying the list.
    My Problem:
    1. The spool list is truncated after 255 characters when i run in background.
    2. Th output in Spool List is coming in 2 rows ... not very clear ... becoz of that the grid lines are not getting displayed.
    3. I ve not used any Standard - line size for dislaying ..
    4. In foreground i am able to display all the 64 columns... Y not in Background......
    5. My Printer setting is ..X_255 .... only ...
    Requirement:
    1. What should i do to increase the spool list display to more than 255 characters
    2. Or how to save the background run reports output to an excel sheet as how we 'll take the from the foreground.
    Expecting your answers,
    Thanks in Advance...
    Cheers,
    R.Kripa .........
    Enjoy ABAPing ..........
    new upcoming Abaper ....

    Hello Kripa,
You need to perform two actions.
    1. set an appropriate format for the printer you are using. As explained from the previous messages you go to: SPAD -> output devives (type the printer you are using) -> from the menu ..-> goto -> device type -> formats. In there create a new format like Z_65_650
or Z_65_xxxx where xxxx could be up to 1065. This is the length of your report.
When you give your report in background, do not forget to choose the new format you created.
    2. After the spool request is created, you take its number and use it ar a parameter in the following report.
Please copy and paste it in a new program, maybe called ZRSPOSHOWSPOOLLIST.
    It should work then.

  • Download List output displayed

    Hi Friends,
I want to donwload the list output displayed from the Report program with the exisitng formatting structure (displayed).
1)From SAP menu we can click on System –> List –> Save –> Local file to download the file locally.
    2) I want to obtain same functionality as mentioned in point 1 through a button on tool bar.
I dont want to prepare any internal table locally with the same data that is displayed on the screen, in the same formatting structure and Download, which is similar to a local download functionality.
Please let me know ur suggestions.
    Regards,
    Lavanya.

Then you have to  display your  O/p in the ALV   display  ...
so that you can achive  your requirement  ..Because the ALV has the similar icon for downloading to pc  ..etc
by Normal reporting  you cannot get this Option  .in the Application tool bar  .  one  is there as you menioned
From SAP menu we can click on System –> List –> Save –> Local file to download the file locally.
because   by pacing the  icon in  the Apllication bar it will not   call the  path ..etc.  you have to  do the coding  ...instead of that ALV is  best .
But  in the ALV   it is there  in the standard  ALV  GRID    with   Downlaod icon , summation, scroldown ,sorting (A/D) ,etc...
reward  points  if it is usefull ..

  • Spool list output truncated after 255 char

    Hi,
I'm using ALV list(FM: Reuse_alv_list_display) in my report. When it is run in background, the output is sent to spool. The problem is the list is truncated after 255 characters.
Is there any way to display more than 255 characters in spool? So that it can be downloaded to a spreadsheet from spool.
    Thanks

    Hi,
in the report-statement you can define the line-size of your list. I expect, you haven set the line-size!
    Try this one:
    REPORT Zxxxxx line-size 300.
Normaly the program searches the the layout that fits to your selected printer (done by FM 'RSPO_LIST_LAYOUT_FITS').

  • Problem In report output display when i run in the background

    Hi,
In a classical report i am printing around 17 fields  the width of the report out put is around 800 characters.
If i run  the report in the  fore ground it running perfectly. But the thing is when i give large selection is it GETTING ' TIMED OUT ' as it is running more than an Hour.
so i wanted to run it in the back ground to avoid TIME OUT problems.
But when i run in the backgroud   i am not getting  full  out put in the SPOOL request(SIZE of the report output may causing the problem) .
Pls come up with some solutions
    Thanks in advance

    Try increasing the spool length..
Refer this link for doing so.

  • Spool list not available from SM37

    Hi All,
We have scheduled a job and running successfully.
But spool list not displayed from SM37, whereas spool request generated in SP01 at the same time when the job is completed.
We've checked with the developer and they dint find anything wrong from program end.
Kindly suggest what is going wrong here.
    Thanks in advance......

    Hi,
Apply the following SAP notes to resolve this problem:
1372936 - Spool lists no longer displayed from SM37 after SP
1174127 - Job refers to incorrect spool request

  • SPOOL - how to display output list of more then 255 characters?

    Hi,
First of all, I would like to say hi to all of you here, as a new member :)!
I've just discovered this forum - I'm very new and let's say unexperienced in SAP, unlike you :)!
Didn't know where to put my subject (in what folder) so I apologize in advance if I'm mistaken... I work as an ABAP programmer in SAP Core and SAP IS-T and currently I'm worried about this problem:(!
We have these huge reports in IS-T that have to be run in background, because of lot of data. Most of reports are very wide and don't fit in those 255 characters that is SAP standard for spool display. Now I'm dealing with this RFC that has to provide spool display with 800 characters, and this has to be on production by tomorrow:)!!!!!
First I created new format type (ZX_65_800) in transaction SPAD and assigned it to my local printer. I thought this would be enough, but I was wrong. Because when I try to run my programe in background, the system doesn't offer me my format at all :(!
Is there anything else I must do in order to get it.... (I work in Release 620)
If anyone had the same problem, please contact me!
    Thanks,
    BR,
    Sanja

    Hi All,
We have been looking for a solution for what I believe is the same problem, for more than 2 years now. I would just like to verify with you, if your requirement are similar to ours.
    Problem:
    1.     Requirement is to run large HR reports – either standard or with Ad Hoc Query in background mode in a company with more than 50,000 employees.
    2.     Nobody wants printed reports these days.  We want to save the forests. Customers prefer to be emailed an Excel file so they can do further data analysis, filtering, pivot tables etc.
    3.     Reports are running OK in foreground for smaller sections of the organisation, where you send the output to Excel from ALV, or save as a local file in spreadsheet format.
    4.     But large reports for entire company are awkward, tie up your PCs resources, and complex reports accessing many tables can timeout before completion.
    5.     So scheduling these reports to run in background would be the ideal solution.
    6.     However when we access the report output from SP02, we find that most reports (say with more than 13 or so fields) have an output wider than 255 characters and the output of the spool file wraps to the next line in Excel.  It is very tricky to then parse the data back into one row for each employee.  And you have a problem if you output is for 50,000 or so employees, because then you file is 100,000 rows and will not load completely into Excel – limit problem of 65,536 characters.
    7.     We simply want a spool file that does not wrap the data to the next line after 255 characters.
    8.     But how to explain this simple requirement to some technical people. It seems a lot of posts on SDN think we always want to print a spool file.  NO – remember the forests!
    Possible Solutions:
I see a lot of posts here that refer to OSS note 186603, but they don’t mention the target for the output of the spool is to import into an Excel File (i.e. spreadsheet format).  Just search for 186603 or ” Spool request with more than 255 columns”.  There is also a reference to OSS note 313566.  I am not sure if these will work?
I have also seen the suggestions that you need to define a customer printer format that does not wrap the output after 255 characters (create a new format type in transaction SPAD).
Did you find a solution yet to this problem, do the solutions above work, or can anyone else help us!

  • How to display more than 255 chars in background job with ALV Grid ????

    Hi All,
I am using ALV grid with OO.
I have used call screen for ALV grid display. I have to display more than 255 characters in width. While running it, I can see the list perfectly.
But in background mode, the list is truncated after 255 chars.
Can anybody help how to send complete list(width more than 255 chars) to spool.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Neha

    Hi SAP fan,
<b>YES you can run the ALV report in background mode.
To run the report in background do F9 instead of F8, then give immediate and save.
Now goto Sm35 goto job overview and view the job listed
Choose the job and press the spool button. It will show the list created on the next page. When u clcik the list u can see the ALV output.
To see this the job should be in the finished status.
    How to define Periodic Jobs
    1.Execute transaction SM36
2.Define Job name, Job class, Target server
    3.Click on 'START CONDITION' button
    4.Click on 'Date/Time' button
5.Enter Scheduled start DATE & TIME. Check mark 'Periodic Job' field. Click on 'Period values' button and select 'Hourly' or 'Dialy' or 'Weekly' or 'Monthly' or Other period and SAVE. Go back to main screen.
6.Click on 'STEPS' button and enter Program name and Variant under box 'ABAP Program'. Click on 'Print Specification' button and enter Printer name under 'Output device' and SAVE
7.Click on SAVE button until you get message on bottom of the screen that describes 'Job XYZ saved with status: Scheduled'.
8.Click on 'Job overview' button or execute SM37 transaction.
9.Select the appropriate 'Job name', 'User name', 'Job Status' & Schedule date under 'Job start condition' and click on 'Execute' button or press F8.
10.You will now see all your scheduled JOBS.
    <b>Case: 2</b>
You can Run in Background but make sure it is alv list, not alv Grid FM. if you are uisng alv list not problem , but if you are using alv grid then you can code like this..
    if sy-batch = ' '.
    call 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY'.
    else.
    call 'REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY'.
    endif.
if you are using OO alv then write this code..
    CALL METHOD cl_gui_alv_grid=>offline
                    RECEIVING e_offline = off.
        IF off IS INITIAL.
          CREATE OBJECT g_custom_container
                 EXPORTING container_name = g_container.
        ENDIF.
    <b>Case: 3</b>
if you are using OO ALV.
Just before creating the custom container check for the following condition.
    Batch or Web Reporting
    IF cl_gui_alv_grid=>offline( ) IS INITIAL.
    CREATE OBJECT o_custcontainer
    EXPORTING
    container_name = lc_custcontrol
    EXCEPTIONS
    cntl_error = 1
    cntl_system_error = 2
    create_error = 3
    lifetime_error = 4
    lifetime_dynpro_dynpro_link = 5
    OTHERS = 6
    ENDIF.
You can see the output in Spool in transaction SP01.</b>
    Good Luck and thanks

  • Spooling the output of a Query with out displaying the rows

    Hello All,
Is it possible to spool the output of
    a query/dbms_output.put_line with out displaying
the Query output on the console.
In my case, list of rows in the output is huge, I want
to eliminate displaying the output of query
so that spooling will complete faster.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Srini

    You can do:
SET TERMOUT OFFIn your script before doing the spool command.
You will have to write your query as a .SQL script and run it from SQL*Plus in order for it to work the way you expect.
    sqlplus -s username/password @query_script.SQL

  • Convert ABAP list output to PDF without spool

    Hi All,
We have used the FM 'CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF' to convert the list output to PDF. It creates the spool number in SP01 and PDF is getting generated.
But, in our SAP ECC 6.0 server all spools are redirected to printer by default and get printed because it configured like that. We requested BASIS people to reconfigure but they said no for a single report.
So we need to find the alternate solution to generate the PDF without spool. We have searched in sdn, but didnot get any alternate solution.
Please help us in this regard.

  • List-processing: limitations to 255 chars per line?

    Hi,
check the sample code below and if possible, execute it in some of your systems:
    start-of-code
    REPORT  ZISM_TEST52 LINE-SIZE 300.
    DATA:
      line(300) TYPE c.
    WRITE '0123456789' TO line+250(10).
    WRITE: / 'From variable', /.
    WRITE  line.
WRITE: / 'Directly to the list', /.
    WRITE AT 251 '0123456789'.
    end-of-code
As you can see from the execution, when writing something into the char variable (in this case line), and try to put it into your screen, there is a limitation - only the first 255 characters of the variable take place in the resulted list. But, if you write directly into the list, this limitation is missing.
My question is closely related to this limitation:
Is there a possibility to avoid this limitation while putting something into the variable, and after that writing it to the list?
Situation is: I have quite complex report to rewrite (with several lists, and complex header texts for each list), which uses this technique - write to internal table, after that loop at the table and use simple write statement. I would like to save my effort and time and to use a a possibility to write variables longer than 255 chars to the list - if there is any.
So? Is there such a possibility?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ivaylo Mutafchiev

    HI Ivaylo
    Below is from documenation:
Creates a report with col columns per line.
If the LINE-SIZE specification is missing, the line length corresponds to the current screen width. The system field SY-LINSZ contains the current line size for generating lists. The maximum width of a list is 1023 characters. You should keep lists to the minimum possible size to improve useability and performance (recommendation: LINE-SIZE < 132). For very wide lists (LINE-SIZE > 255), you should consult the notes for using LINE-SIZE
    greater than 255.
    Notes
The specified LINE-SIZE must not appear in quotation marks.
If the you want the report list (i.e. the output) to be printable, do not define a LINE-SIZE with a value greater than 132 because most printers cannot handle wider lists. <b>You cannot print lists wider than 255 characters at all using the standard print functions.</b> To print the contents of the lists, you need to write a special print routine that arranges the data in shorter lines (for example, using the PRINT ON addition in the NEW-PAGE statement.
At the beginning of a new list level, you can set a fixed line width for the level using the ... LINE SIZE addition to the NEW-PAGE statement.
Maybe the highlighted portion might be one reason for this behaviour.

  • Display button directs to spool list

    Hi All.
I have a pecuilar problem in t-code ME9A where i am executuing the message output screen without any entries and I am directed to a ALV display of all available message output. Now when i select one output type of a purchasing order and say display message instead of displaying the message the document is stored in the spool list at SP01.
Why is this happening any one please advise.
Also this is only happening to ABSA output type and NEU output type is working fine(i mean it displays without storing in the spool).

  • Display message in spool list

    hii all
theres this program on which iam working. It fetches the data from the database and does further processing. the program is executed in the background. if there is no data selected, the spool list shows the message "list contains no data". What I need to output on thelist is this message " The records in DATABASE table does not exist for further processing". How is it possible to show this?

    Hi,
In your alv report Top_of_page you have to write the following info.
    form top_of_page.
    use write statements.....
    if it_final[] is initial.
write 'The Records in DATABASE table does not exist for Further processing'.
    endif.
    endform.
