Spool server inactive

Hi,
I have problem with spool server. When I logged into SPAD it is displaying Inactive in QAS.
Pls  help me to resolve this issue.
Regards,
Kris

This is normally done by a basis administrator, so if anyone near, ask him. Else try and have a look at transaction RZ10 (profile maintenance). The profile rdisp/wp_no_spo parameter should first be maintained. If it is, check if it is active.

  • Difference between logical spool server and alternative printer

    Hi All,
We are in the process of implementing load balancing among printers. As of now, they are printing as static printers. I want to know:
    1) Is it necassary to define logical spool servers for printer load sharing or we by using printer load balancing and defining the alternative printer, we would be able to accomplish printer load sharing?
    2) Also, even after going by the help manual, still not able to figure out the correct advantage of logical spool servers.
    Thank You,
    Antarpreet

    Hi Antarpreet,
Logical spool server is at application server level while printer load balancing or what is known commonly as pool printing is something at print server level.
    They are 2 different concepts.
If you mutiple application servers and each one of them has spool work processes then the best way of making sure that printing makes use of these work processes on load sharing basis is to create logical spool server. In a logical spool server you can define 2 application servers or 1 application server and another logical spool server. Then this logical spool server can assigned to all the printers. When you fire a print out dispatcher would look for which of servers in the logical spool server is free and direct printing to it.
In case of pool printing you create a printer pool again consisting of 2 physical printers or 1 physical printer and 1 pool printer. Here SAP is not responsible for load balancing but the actual print server is which will decide which printer in the pool is free and will direct the print out to it.
So logical spool server helps in load balancing at SAP application server level while pool printing does load balacing at physical printer level.

  • SPAD - Spool Server - Set Command Id.

    Dear Experts.
I set up a printer. This printer spool write spool orders in the operating system. Orders are generated spool in background jobs running various programs.
    Example:
    zjob
        Step 1 rsusr100n
        Step 2 rsusr003
        Step 3 resauselect1
So in "Set Command Id" I have defined a command that copies the files (spool spool orders) in another directory.
    Example:
    / usr / bin / cp & F / usr / sec / control / & m / &F;
So far the spool server was static and the process has worked correctly. But by substituting a logical server not all orders are copied to the spool path defined in "Set Command Id".
When we changed the physical server by the logical server  spool orders that come through the same application server that ran the background process are copied to the path.
    Why does this happen?
    Thanks and regards. David Sanchez.

    Dear experts.
I think that it only possible to define "Set Command Id" when "Host Spool Access Method" is  L type ("Print Locally Using LP/LPr" ) and Spool Server is phisical host.
So every spool order generated in same host and can be processed by "Set command id".
    In other way:
    - If Spool server is logical server then some spool orders can not be processed by same host which executed de job. The command included in "set command id" is executed in one application server and it is local proccess.
    - If host access method not equal L then there is not possible to define "set command id".
One solution is n jobs with one step. Or create one develop which merge all spool orders.
    Thanks and best regards.
    David Sánchez.

  • Spool server on Windows 2003 x64 ?

    Hi,
I'm installing SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 on Windows 2003 x64 with MaxDB.
Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 states "For a Microsoft Windows XP host, choose access method C. other Microsoft Windows operating systems are not suitable for local printing, as you cannot set up a spool server on them."
However, by default, there is a spool server defined in my installation of SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 on Windows 2003 x64.  But I see plenty of "Spool / print: Calling program reports invalid handle for TemSe object (magic==X'NULL-ptr')" errors in the system log when the background processes run every night.
Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 talks about a SAP spool server running on "the Microsoft Windows NT/Windows 2000 system", suggesting that Windows systems other than XP are supported for local printing.
Is that correct?  i.e. Has local printing support for Windows 2003 been removed in PI 7.1 ?
I'm surprised, and more than a little confused by this.  I'd appreciate any help/explanation.
    Regards,
    Mark

    Just a follow-up if anyone's interested...
I did try setting-up Access Method C in my NetWeaver 7.1 on Windows 2003 x64 with MaxDB and so far the local printing seems to be working OK. So, either:
    a) The Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 is wrong on this issue.
    b) The Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 is right, and this is an undocumented behavior that might break in the future.
    c) I just got lucky (and I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth).
Also, Access Method G works fine.

Ok I am upgrading from R/3 46C to ECC 6.0, on the 46c system the printers are configured as follow:
Device type          HPLJ4    : HP Laserjet 4 series
    Spool server          sapprod1_PRD_00       sapprod1
    Device class          Standard printer
Host spool access method C: Direct operating system call
    Host printer
    srtroot03.startek.com\srt-dc-c4-sharp
    Host name          sapprod1
On the ECC 6.0 system the printers are configured as follows:
Device Type          HPLJ4    : HP Laserjet 4 series
    Spool Server          srtsapeccdev1_DEV_00
    Server Description
    Host               srtsapeccdev1
    Device Class          Standard printer
Host Spool Access Method C: Direct operating system call
    Host printer
    srtroot03.startek.co\srt-dc-c4-sharp
    HostName          srtsapeccdev1
The 46c system prints just fine, on the ECC 6.0 systems; I can not get the printers to work.  I have made sure that the hosts file on the ECC server has the printer host address, and I get the following error back:
    SAP spool error log

Error during print request output. l_rc = 1
    There may be no printout
The access to the Printer Host is wide open, what do I need to do to resolve this issue.

I have a problem printing documents through spool.
    1. I run a form from Form Builder, execute and select to print from spool

I get this for all print requests from spool. When I print these documents directly, I have no problem. I understand there is some problem with the spool server but do not know what it is.
I also observed that when the spool access method is G - I have no problems in printing.

    Hi Sri,
Try to setup the printer at OS LEVEL.
    then,
    If on Windows---use method C.
    if not,
use method U and map to your printer queue at OS level.
    Hope this resloves this issue.

  • CSS WEBNS 7.2/7.4 ssl balancing and sticky-inact

    Hi,
just two questions in regards of load balancing:
    1) Does the advanced-balance ssl notice if an sslid change is done in the SSL-Session (some clients reinitiate a session after some time)?
    2) Is the sslid-stickiness aware of 1) and keeps the connection for this client to the former server; sticks the client to the same server...
    2) the sticky-inact-timer: is it realy an inact timer which is counting as soon as a session is idle/closed or is it a timer that only get's resetted when the client start a new connection (like the idle time-out at the CSM)
    TIA
    Kind Regards,
    Joerg

    Hi Gilles,
thanks for the reply. My fears unfortunatley came truth.
Is an applicable workaround for 1) advanced balanced src-ip-dst-port? Unfortunaltey only src-ip is not working even if in the training materials is mentioned that adanced-balanced src-ip is possible with Layer3-5.
I had stickiness trouble with it so I changed it to advancded-balancde src-ip-dst-port and got a sticky behaviour but it seems as if the connections get assigned to a different server when the SSL-Session-ID changes even if the stickieness tells the CSS to stick that client to a certain server (inact timout 0).
I guess I've to do some investigations with my customer on this.
Btw we are talking of a citrix webfrontend using SSL as connection method and we are experiencing this problem with broswers and with the citrix client itself.

  • Trigger with spool to a printer

    END;
    Spool off;
    HOST lp -d Laserjet4 /server/file.txt;

  • Create Application Server Group

    Hi,
I have 7 application Servers in my landscape
I wanted to create a group of application Servers 1 and 2 for Spool processes. The application server 1 and 2 already has lot of spool processes
Please let me know the steps of how to create a Server group and assign it to spool related jobs

    Hi,
From transaction SPAD, you have to create a hiearchy of Logical Spool servers.
You need to validate the 2 check boxes "Logical Server" and "Allow load balancing".
For each Logical Spool servers you define the mapping with one physical server and one logical server.
Then for each printer you choose the Logical Spool Server from the top of the hiearchy.

  • Printing from webdynpro

    Regards,
    Vijay.

    Hi Vijay,
I'm not 100% sure - but I think your issue is that you are trying to print directly to the users local printer? And you are trying to use the standard SAP local printer setup to do that?
That uses the GUI as a conduit to the PC - the print driver that pops up in the background when you print from the GUI...
In Web Dynpro - you have no access to that conduit so no ability to directly print.
Think about how any web pages you've visited allow you to print - they all give you a preview - it's up to you as a user to then get those previews to your print device.
have a read of this reference - it may help understand the issue with "auto printing" from a browser
[why printing from a browser is problematic|http://javascript.about.com/od/events/a/print.htm]
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Chris
