  • I need help with a print spooler error message

Out of the blue I lost my printer connection.  When I look at my printer menu there is no printer listed.  When I try to add or install a printer, I get some odd message about a printer spooler is not running.  Restart the machine.  I've tried unhooking the printer, rebooting, unhooking from the power source.  I even went into some area as an administrator and found the print spool task and when I clicked on the start button there was no action.

This is a MS Windows issue. Try this:
    Right click on My Computer
    Select Manage
Double click on Services and Application
    Double click on Services
Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on it
    Click on Dependencies tab
Check what dependencies the print spooler has, if any you may need to click on + on those dependencies to more dependencies
Go back to the Services list
On each of the spooler dependencies, double click on it
Make sure it is set to Automatic in the Startup Type drop down menu
Now click on Start to start the service
    Click OK
    Now try and print.

  • Spooler SubSystem App error message when printing

I am having troubles printing with my HP Photosmart C4450 printer. The printer will not finish printing a job and will come up with the "Spooler SubSystem App" error message. The printer remains "frozen" after this message appears on my computer. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer witht the latest driver, downloading all the associated updates and running the HP Print Diagnostic tool to no avail. The spooler is indeed set to automatic and is started. I am running Windows XP on my computer. Any insight into this problem is appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tried with system PLD?

  • I'm getting the "spooler subsystem app has encountered and error" message

Greetings. I have one XP machine wired to a router, and one  Win7 Laptop connected wirelessly.  I install the printer driver for the Deskjet D2530 on the XP machine, and I can print. Then I install the printer driver for the Deskjet D2530 on the laptop, and go to "add Printer". I see the printer on the network, try add it, and the installation completes. Then when I attempt to print, the error message comes up on the XP machine.
The next step was to try the "hp print and scan tool'. I ran it on the XP machine and NFF; on the Win7 laptop, it said there was a driver conflict and that I should uninstall the printer driver software, and install the "full featured" version. I did that, and no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Microsoft has a fix for this on XP operating systems:

  • Cannot add printer...Error message Print Spooler not running

just purchased HP with vista.  I had a HP Photosmart 6525 that did work at one time and then it stopped.   Thinking the printer was the problem, I bought an HP 5660 and i get the same error messages.  It did work to begin with but has stopped.  I have unplugged and replugged in everything.  Tried downloading drivers again and keep getting errors.  I get an option to download the drivers from windows update or windows/INF/oem.inf.  It does not matter which I choose as I keep getting a message that windows found driver software for your device but encountered an erro while attempting to install it.  On of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time.  When I go to add on a printer I get the message that Windows can't open Add printer.  The local print spooler is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine.  I have restarted the machine many times and gone through the help with the spooler and there is nothing there to be spooled.    I have downloaded and run the print & scan doctor, but that did not help.   thanks for any and all help

The spooler is part of WIndows, if it is stopped (or broken), no printer will work.Try clear and restart the spooler (this page may help: http://hpanswers.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-print.html and if this doesn't solve the problem, you need to reinstall Windows (or run a system recovery to reset Windows).

  • HT3500 I keep getting an error message that the "spools are full".  How do I access the spools and how do I empty them?

I keep getting an error message that the "spools are full". Where do I find them and how to empty them?

You may be able to determine the reason for this error by examining your Mac's logs with Console. To do that find the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
    Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem. To do that choose Clear Display from Console's toolbar. Leave Console running while you choose Print from iPhoto again. Examine any new entries logged in Console. If there are any, copy and paste them in a reply.

  • Error message: thunking spooler APIS from 32 to 64 Process has stopped working

Having this same problem with my HP ENVY 7645. Troubleshooter keeps telling me to uninstall and reinstall software. I've done this 3 times now and still get the error message. Any solutions?

    Hi @bembolroco
I don't believe this is an HP issue, but I did find something that might help; Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 process has stopped working.
I feel this is an issue with the operating system as it seems to be effecting many printer brands.

  • I keep getting blue screen and error message to remove this file from system. spooldr.sys

HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n    w/operating system     Windows XP Professional
I installed the printer in February and the disk did not finalize the setup process.  I went online and
down loaded the drivers and software that was offered from the HP website.
The printer works, but as the months have gone along, I keep getting updates for the printer and
the system needs to reboot and it does automatically.
Now I am getting a blue screen with a critical dump error message.  HP error reporting keeps sending
the same message back to restore to earlier date before the updates.  That worked for awhile.  Now
HP Error system says that malware has corrupted and needs to remove system file     spooldr.sys
Is this in your driver software.  Spooldr is the system that caches pages of data for printing in chronological
    order....
Can I uninstall my software and drivers and change to the plain & simple, print and scan to prevent the
spool driver from loading to my system?

Thank you for your input.  But, It is amazing that you can tell me that I was infected with  rootkit.
Without information as to how to fix, your information is after the fact and useless.
I used the Safety Scanner provided to me by HP.  A full scan didn't detect any Malware in any files on my system.  But the last screen dump provided the information that   spooldr.sys  was corrupted and  needed
    to be removed.
Coming into HP Form, I did read on the HP website that my system Windows XP Professional was not listed
and noted that the software may have not been just what I needed.  This was the reason for the question
about uninstalling and reinstalling less of the program.  I really don't need my printer to print backward and
that is all I see that it is doing that other printers don't.
Besides, Kudos goes to the person from HP who sent the email,  suggesting I used the HP Update software and drives recommended  for my computer system.  Computer, printer is working, back to normal and hasn't taken a dump since, I uploaded  software and drives for Windows XP Professional.

  • Acrobat XI: Printing to networked printer fails without error message

    I'm using Windows 8 Professional.
When I use Acrobat XI Professional or Reader XI to print to a networked printer, Acrobat and Reader throw up the Progress dialog, showing the document is getting spooled. However, nothing appears in my printer's status window and nothing gets printed. There are no error messages.
When I use Windows 8 Pro's Reader app to print to the networked printer, it works just fine.
I thus have a workaround, so not all is lost.
However, how do I diagnose why only the Adobe applications on my computer can't use the networked printer?

    Thanks for the advice.
The problem is not solved.  This is what i have tried.
    Attempt 1.
Log-in as Administrator via  "CRTL-ALT-DEL" twice at the Welcome window.
"Repair" Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installation.
    Same failure as described earlier.
    Attempt 2.
Log-in as Administrator via  "CRTL-ALT-DEL" twice at the Welcome window.
    Uninstall Acro XI Pro.
    Run :  acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p1_040612.zip
Log of "cleaner" shows deletion of very many, but ot all, Registry Acro-associated keys.
At end of uninstall and cleaner processes, re-start machine.
Log-in again as Administrator via  "CRTL-ALT-DEL" twice at the Welcome window.
Disable Norton 360 and Webroot Secure Anywhere prior to Acro XI Pro installation.
Re-install Acro XI Pro (this time, for "Default" choice, as opposed to "Complete" in previous installs.)
Outcome:  NO Adobe PDF printer.  HOWEVER, both during the "Repair" and re-install processes, a message did flash: "Creating the Adobe PDF Printer".
Both Repair and re-install:  The Adobe PDF printer is not listed under "Manufacturer" when "Add Printer" is executed (see image below).
Proceeding via "Have Disk", C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf,  yields the failure to install the driver previously described, for all ten (10) instance of the Adobe PDF Converter options.
    Thanks for any insights.

  • How can I print emails? Printing Error message that no printers are installed. (Printers are installed.)

When I click File > Print, I get a Printing Error message that no printers are installed. Printers are installed. When I click Yes to install a new printer, I receive a new error message that "Windows can't open Add Printer / The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I updated to the new version of Thunderbird 24.6.0. Using Windows 8. I restarted the machine. I confirmed printers are installed using Control Panel. I do not see any way to restart a print spooler. How can I fix this? Thanks.

The print spooler is a windows service and is required to print. I would hazard a guess you can not print with any application.
What I am saying is I think your windows instalation has a problem, not Thunderbird.

  • Returning error messages to shell with TERMOUT OFF

    Hi all,
I did a search in this forum and I couldn't find the answer.
I am unloading (spooling) a table using SQLPLUS. Since I don't want to display these records on screen I am using set termout off.
But I want to see error messages on the screen. I used whenever sql error exit sql.sqlcode. It is displaying the error messages in the spool file. But I would like to have these on screen so that I can capture all my errors in to a log file.
    Thanks in advance,

There is no setting in SQL*Plus to separate
    errors from other text.
There is a general risk using sql.sqlcode.
The OS may not be able to cope with large numbers,
the returned value may be modulus the maxium
return code allowed. The risk is that the final
value may be the same as a successful return value.
For safety I exit with FAILURE and then
check the output file for the exact error.

  • Spool Error capture question

    Hi,
I am trying to spool data from tables into flat files. I am using the following scripts to accomplish it
    1. A cmd file (windows) that makes a call to a sql file
    2. The SQL file which generates another query file at the run time, depending upon the table name passed to it
    3. The run time query file , that executes the final query and spools the data into a txt file | delimited
    For eg:
    Actual command passed C:\Spool_utility\spool_utility TABLE_NAME
Eg of the spool utility file :
    @echo off
    SET dbuser=XX@YY
    SET dbpw=xxxx
    echo %date% - %time% - Start > %1%log.txt
    echo START
    sqlplus -s %dbuser%/%dbpw% @spool_utility.sql %1>%1.txt
    echo %date% - %time% - Done >> %1%log.txt
    echo DONE
    Eg of the spool_utility.sql
    set echo off
    SET newpage 0
    SET feedback off
    SET linesize 32767
    set pagesize 0
    SET wrap off
    SET recsep off
    SET con off
    SET trim on
    SET trims on
    set verify off
    SET doc off
    SET termout off
    SET arraysize 5000
    SET HEADING off
    set colsep "|"
    spool &1.sql;
Prompt Select * from &1 where some condition
    spool off
    set termout ON
    @ &1
    EXIT
The above file generates a table_name.sql file with the actual table name at run time and gets executed and the output is written to the table_name.txt file.
This works perfectly fine. But the issue is when someone passes some wrong table name or if there is a actual run time error while executing the query , the error with details itself itself gets written to the end spool file.
For eg : if i do this just to generate an error and execute it from command line, the query generates an error and writes the error to the spool file , but at the command prompt where I executed the command I do not see any error and the process seems to have run perfectly well
set xxx on xxx off as above
    spool &1.sql;
Prompt Select * from &1 where rownum><10---this will cause the issue
    spool off
    set termout ON
    @ &1
    EXIT
Eg of spool file generated :
    from     table_name WHERE rownum><=10 *
    ERROR at line 62:
    ORA-00936: missing expression
My question is, is there any way i can capture this runtime error and return this error to my calling sql script spool_utility.sql and then propagate it to the calling command file and do some tasks for eg removing the spool file and writing the actual error to a log file . Basically any way to know at my OS calling level that the entire spooling operation was unsuccessful.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
Querying the data dictionary will work only when the issue is a invalid table name. My question is can i capture any run time error, not only incorrect table name.
If there is any run time error (for eg the one I showed where I used a >< sign which is a invalid operator) the error gets written to my spool file, but there is no way I am able to capture that in my calling sql script and subsequently in the calling command file so that I can do something with the error. For eg if a spool file may get written with error messages, some batch process or user may pick up the spool file and start processing which i dont want to happen. i would like to trap that error or at least be notified of the error at my outer calling sql file or outer command file level, so that I can write the error to a log file and delete the erroneous spool file etc.
