Sporadic iPhone4 syncing/charging

My iPhone4 only charges and syncs sporadically with my MacBook Pro. Sometimes it will charge very slowly and sometimes it even drains the charge while connected. I have reinstalled the phone software which seemed to work briefly but then it reverted to the same problem. Any ideas?

it now only charges with a mains connection.

  • My iphone4s will charge but not sync when connected to my macbook pro, using the latest itunes

My iphone4s will charge when plugged into my macbook pro but will not sync. I am using the latest version of itunes and I already tried restarting both the computer and the device. What gives??

After days mucking around this worked for me..
For Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver from the shortcut menu.
Click "Browse my computer for driver software."
Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
Click the Have Disk button. (If the Have Disk option is not  present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device  if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)
In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.
Use this window to navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called  "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see  "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program  Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.
Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.

  • IPhone syncs/charges only after restart

Hello. I am having some troubles getting my iPhone to sync or charge when connected to my iMac G5.
The phone will not sync, iTunes doesn't recognize that it is connected, AND it will not charge at all. I can plug it in and unplug it as many times as I want. The only way to get the phone and computer to sync/charge the phone again is to restart the iMac, log-in, and then plug the iPhone back in - then everything works great again for 1 more sync/charge session. If I unplug the phone from the iMac, I have to restart again before my next sync/charge. It has been like this since I upgraded (clean install) to Leopard on the iMac.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
Also, after I restart and log-in I have to start iTunes before plugging in the iPhone otherwise iTunes never automatically launches with the phone is plugged in.
    iMac G5, Leopard 10.5.1 (Clean install), iTunes 7.6, iPhone 8GB 1.1.3

Not sure if this has anything to do with the new download, but Thursday I downloaded the '08 updates (yeah...I am slow getting to it), anyway... while I was downloading the updates my phone of course was charging from the computer. After the download was finished I turned my phone off and plugged the phone into the wall charger. Charged fine... well last night (Saturday) I had to recharge my phone, but once I connected my phone to the wall charger it would not respond and/or start charging. Tried to plug it into the computer and it said my USB port was overloaded. I was ticked... needless to say I tried again this morning with no luck. Left my phone off for a few hours still nothing. Called tech. support and the guy asked me to try it again on the computer and read what the error said to him.....low and behold it started charging... on the pc and then on the wall charger. I have no idea why it started to work. I was happy it did, but has anyone else had this issue?

Can't get iphone4 to charge or power up

What kind of solution are you looking for alexandrescotti? other than the obvious fact that you dropped it and it's not working? There is no solution for hardware problems, only going and getting them fixed. If you dropped the phone and it stops functioning correctly after versus it stops functioning correctly from nothing, it's a little obvious as to why.
If you didn't drop your phone and it's not working then go to an Apple store and have them take a look at it. If you dropped your phone and it's not working you can try and bring it back to get fixed, but if it's showing signs of physical damage they most likely aren't going to fix it, but you can give it a try anyways.

Did the Firefox installation finish without problems?
    You can check:

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

  • IPhone 3Gs will not sync/charge on my mac OSX 10.4.11

My new iPhone 3Gs will not sync/charge on my mac OSX 10.4.11, but will charge on my friends OSX 10.6.7, what do I do?

Call AppleCare and ask them if they still have an available copy or check on Amazon, eBay, etc. If your computer will support it you will be better off buying a retail copy of Snow Leopard instead.

  • HT201444 iphone4 wont charge or power up or turn on.

My iphone4 wont charge and wont turn on...Ive tried different chargers and still the same result.

Could be a battery problem or some other hardware problem.
Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Multiple iPad Mini Sync/Charge

Will this http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/eecf/ Sync/Charge 26 iPad Minis? i will be using a 2.3 GHz Retina MBP with Apple Configurator to Sync them.

The Mondo hub shows an output of 4A.  If you have 28 devices plugged into it, it will provide less than 143mA per port (probably less because the device itself uses some power).
That is a LOT less than what is required to charge iPad minis which need at least 1A.  In fact, it is a lot less than you need for most standard USB devices, which assume 500mA for a standard port.  Hubs like this are not made to provide charge current, but this one has so little that, with more than 8 devices, even syncing might fail spectacularly because it is so underpowered.
For the kind of application you want, you should really get something more professional, such as the hubs sold by Datamation Systems.  Just look them up on-line. I think some are even available on Amazon, but they have other choices that may not be there.  They are more expensive but they assure 2.1A and the right kind of sync current for every port, which is enough for iPads as well.

  • TS2634 Problem with original sync / charge cabel

Hello. I have problem with my original sync / charge cabel. I have two ipod touches. 1st and 4th generation. From start my cable works great with my 4thG iPod but when I charge 1stG iPod several times then my 4thG iPod said that accessory is not supported. Now on 1stG it's working fine but I am not able to charge my 4thG iPod. Help me with this.
    Thank you
    John J.

    See the not-charging topic of:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    Have you tried another cable?
Another charging source? Does iTunes see the iPod when you connect to your computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.

I have tried the reset described above but it said to connect to a charger (it was plugged in).
Please help!!! I have less than 20% charge left.  Had the exact same problem a couple of months ago with my original phone which was under warrantee.  This one is not!

  • 6 Port iPad sync/charge/storage Solution

We are working on a large deployment across a number of workgroups at different locations. The ideal size of the wall mounted sync/charging/storage solution would be 6 port.(1 for each Workgroup, which would hold 4-6 devices)  It doesn't look like Datamation or Ergotron has anything like that.  Has anyone seen one that might be the size we are looking for? Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Bonesaw1962,
I haven't seen anything that small. Most wall mounted cabinets I've seen hold 15-20 and are charge only (no syncing). Here are a few that I've used or have heard good things about when I was researching charging cabinets: Anthro Charging Cabinet (we have a bunch of these in our school district...need the extra hub for syncing), Lock N Charge iQ Wall Cage (this one syncs and charges), Bretford Core 10s (doesn't look like this one syncs so you'd need a hub for that), Griffin MultiDock (I have their old version which offers both syncing and charging... but looks like the new one doesn't)....
    Hope this helps. Good luck!
    ~Joe

  • HTC DROID INCREDIBLE DESKTOP SYNC & CHARGER FOR 2150 mAh BATTERY

While I await my HTC DROID INCREDIBLE I did what I always do when buying any mobile device; I ordered the largest capacity battery so I never have to put up with the low batt message. Talk to people all the time & they are always having to charge their batteries cause they never get the extended battery. Anyway, two 2150 mAh batteries with backs, are in route to my house. Question is, where is a desktop/sync charger for this phone that  will also charge these larger batteries
I will be needing to sync w/my PC. Like the desktop docking station style. Easier to see too.
    Anybody looking into this one???
Oh yeah, Yes, I gave up the iphone. To much inconsistency about the truth of whether Verizon was getting it. Jobs may have said it's coming to providers but as usual, no date.
Yes, I know about LTE. My antique E815 is dying & so was my patients
Hope this Incredible is a good one. I did notice the touch screen was excellent. That impressed me
Found this Sync/charger online. Company says it will accommodate the 2150 mHa battery while docked plus charge the second 2150 mAh battery too. Not sure I believe them.  I asked them if it didn't work can I return it. They told me yes but there would be a restocking fee. I replied, "You are guaranteeing me it will work but if for some reason it does not you are gonna charge me a restocking fee???" They said, "Yes". Don't like the sound of that.
    http://www.thinkhtcincredible.com/htc-droid-incredible-desktop-charger-10078.html

i don't think that will work. the micro usb port on the phone is on the lower left side of it.....RIGHT where it appears the dock you posted has side grips for the phone. this looks more like a universal type of dock that would work.....if htc hadn't put the port on THE SIDE of the phone (don't get me started on this....i just dont get why they didn't put the port on the bottom???). i suspect that there is no real dock for the inc because the port is on the side and our homescreen doesn't go to landscape mode (don't get me started on that either). there are some decent universal stands that i've seen....but nothing that the phone will just plug into.
