Sporadic outgoing .mac mail

Several times a week my outgoing mail via .mac or .me (doesn't seem to make a difference which I use) fails to send. I get a message that it failed for one reason or another, and usually I just switch to another address with my local ISP or comcast.net and it goes fine. I rarely have this problem with those other addresses so I assume the problem is on the Apple end. I am wondering if this is the case and the Apple servers just occasionally get overwhelmed or some other issue on their end or if there is something on my end that I can address. This problem has been happening for months, maybe much longer so predates 10.5.7. I have not change any of my preferences other than adding smtp.me.com/myusername for the outgoing mail server. Typically the problem goes away in an hour or less so it's more of a minor hassle than a big problem, but still would be nice if it didn't happen.
Trouble shooting steps would be most welcome.

You should probably post your question in the Mail and Address Book forums:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223
Although since you're not on the Verizon network while at work, you probably need to adjust the authentication settings for the Verizon SMTP server. Contact them for details.

Nobody but you sees that photo, it does not appear on outgoing emails.
To remove the picture rather than change it, open Address Book and select your personal card, then from the menubar select Card > Clear Custom Image. Now the system will use Apple’s generic user picture in the login window and System Preferences’ Accounts pane. Mail and Address Book will remain blank until you designate a new picture in Address Book or System Preferences > Accounts.

  • Outgoing Mac Mail always send from the same address?

    Hey y'all -
I use 3 gmail accounts through mac mail for 3 different purposes - all fine. But when I send mail, regardless of what account I send it from, recipients always recieve my emails from the same address? E.G. I send an email from addresses 1 or 2, but when they are received they are from address 3? I've also removed address 3 from mac mail, but recipients STILL see address 3 as the sender. Can anyone help? Would a reinstall of mail be appropriate, if so what would be the effective way to go about it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Stu

    SOLVED IT!
Right, I had multiple email accounts, all gmail, address 1 2 & 3.
All mail went to the right addresses, fine. But when I compose, lets say from address 1 or 2, it ALWAYS ends up being received the other end by address 3. I only find this out until I get a reply delivered to the wrong address.
SO  go to preferences, select one of the problematic addresses, then outgoing mailserver (SMTP:) in this case it will say Gmail. Click it so you get the drop down and edit SMTP list. There is a tab that says advanced. This is where I noticed the problem. On my list of SMTP servers I had one for my microsoft account, and then one Gmail one for all 3 gmail accounts. And what did I find for authentication? the username and password of the problem address that ALL my gmail accounts were sending through. You need to create SEPERATE smtp servers for each and every account, especially when using multiple accounts of the same kind (e.g. 3 gmails!)
This fixed the problem for me perfectly and now my emails send from the CORRECT selected address. HOORAH!
    ALSO...
Regardless weather it by gmail or hotmail you compose from, mac defaults to using the next working server. Before setting up seperate smtp servers for each gmail I just deleted the one that was there and then it started sending from microsoft account etc... just to clarify that it works regardless of account type!

  • Problem outgoing (Mac)Mail

Since a couple of days i can't send anymore emails by Macmail. receiving mail ain't no problem. The settings are already doublechecked by my provider. They said it must be a Mac problem. Anybody else with the same problem or better, the solution? ;-)

Since incoming is working fine, I'd start investigating the SMTP server. Make sure your server address is correct, that you're firing on the right ports, that your authentication method is correct, etc...
I'd get in touch with your host and fill out this form with them on the line, then compare it to your settings.
If that's not an option, you can see if Apple has your email service provider info here.
Since Mac Mail is functioning properly on incoming, it's more likely that this is a server settings issue rather than an issue with the app.

  • How do I mask my email address to my outgoing Mac Mail emails?

I use [email protected] for all of my email.
I have a forwarding email address through GoDaddy that is [email protected] that is linked to [email protected]
My Mac Mail app is configured for [email protected]
I would like to be able to reply to emails through Mac Mail using [email protected]
I have figured out how to do this using Gmail itself, but I would like to be able to do the same using Mac Mail. I think the solution lies here:
How do I add the domain with my forwarding email address into the highlighted dropdown menu?
Any insight would be much appreciated! THANK YOU!

  • Outgoing .Mac mail from Mail program

When I set up my .mac mail account on the Mail program, I can receive pick up mail from .mac but can't send mail. I get a can't locate server error message.
I'm not much of a geek so simple descriptions &/or walk-thrus are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    No error message is provided?
Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 (such as the .Mac SMTP server) but some block it use regardless.
    Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
At the Server Port field, enter 587 in place of 25 and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't work, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.

  • For the past day or 2 mail sent from .Mac Mail is not being delivered.

I have been using .Mac Mail and Apple Mail application on my computer for about 10 months. The past 2 days when I go to .Mac Mail online, compose an e-mail, click on send, get the message that says, "Your message has been sent." The e-mail is also in my Sent folder but the e-mail message is not delivered. I sent an e-mail this way to my Hotmail account, my Yahoo account and even to myself at my .Mac Mail account and none of them were delivered. I tried several times at different times and I just tried again now. Still no good. They never went to any of the inboxes even hours later. Is there something wrong with the outgoing .Mac Mail sever? Or what else can it be?

You didn't say what troubleshooting you did after the firmware update and problem...
    To get started...
Verify your drive with Disk Utility.
Repair permissions with Disk Utility (probably not the issue, but won't hurt)
    Try:
    mailbfr -o
    mailbfr -f
If you are still stuck, you'll need to post more detail about your configuration, hopefully more log detail and the contents of imapd.conf and the output of postconf -n

  • I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account. Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my account every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail. I cannot edit the outgoing server; how can I send emails?

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

  • Can I set my iCloud email as the outgoing mail server for my google apps email account in Mac Mail?

I have a google apps email account from an old client, all my work emails have been going to it for years. As I'm no longer affiliated with this client I'd like to make a transition to using my iCloud account for work. I asked people to use my iCloud address but as they've been using my google apps address for years it's what automatically comes up when they type my name.
I figure the easiest way to make a transition is if I reply to all the emails that arrive at my old address from my iCloud address and gradually they will start using my new address without realising it. But I can't find a simple way to do this.
In Mac Mail preferences > accounts > Google IMAP (my old account name) > Account information > Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) I'd like to set my iCloud SMTP server. But although my iCloud account uses its own outgoing mail server for its own account , it is not in the server list when I select my google account. I've tried to add it to the server list as smtp.mail.me.com but it caused my whole iCloud account to give me error messages until I force quit Mail...
    Any ideas?

In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

  • Disguise outgoing "From" in Mail and/or .Mac mail

Whether I'm emailing from the web or my computer, Mail won't allow me to mask my outgoing name. I want my clients to get emails from my personal account name [email protected] NOT the Mail account name: [email protected] No matter what I try, there's no covering up the mac.com. I'd even send all email with the apple logo at the bottom if I could make it come from keenbee.com.
I use Entourage and GoDaddy (web email) and hate them! The only reason I use them is because I can send using the keenbee.com name. I want to use Mail and .Mac again for email but won't since it makes the company look a bit unprofessional, unestablished and confuses clients when they get an email from [email protected]
To summarize: I won't want to use Mail if I can't change my outgoing name from mac.com to keenbee.com.
I just want to mask my my email coming from mac Mail to reflect the keenbee.com name! Sorry for the redundancy, this has been difficult to explain.
thank you for your time and help!

This will help you do what you want your email to do.
    1. Make sure in entourage you have your mobile me account set up and it is working correctly by pushing mail.
    2. set up an account for your @keenbee.com account.
    3. make the @keenbee.com account you default account for sent emails which actually doesn't help.
    4. forward all of your @keenbee.com mail to your @me.com account. you will have to go to go daddy to do this if that is where your @keenbee.com settings are.
    5. make a rule under your tools menu in Entourage that all of your sent mail go's into your mobileme sent folder.
    6. make sure when you are sending your email you will have to pick from the two accounts you want it to be sent from. After you press new for a new email you will have a drop down menu to which you can choose which account you want it to be sent from. I can't figure out how to make the email you always want it to be sent from default. When ever you have one of the mobileme folders selected it always starts the email with the mobileme account even if you have your other email address pick as default account in settings.
you can make a kinds of rules for your mail which i am sure you are aware of under the tools menu bar.
the reason you are having your @keenbee.com mail forwarded to your mobileme email account is to that it turns it from a pop email to imap email.
When you send out the email from your @keenbee.com account in Entourage it is sending it out in pop. But when you apply the rule to it it changes it to imap email. **make sure when setting up your rules you set them up with the imap setting. Also in the rules there is an outgoing tab. this is where you will setup sent mail rule that will put your sent mail into your mobileme sent folder.
This works for me. All of my email accounts are forwarded to mobileme which I receive in Entourage and i send all of my emails from Entourage out to my clients. Everything is insync.
Only problem is when you send emails from your iphone. Haven't found away yet to send them and make them show up from the email i want them to be coming from instead of the @me.com.

  • Mac Mail, sporadic disconnect

    iMac Intel (21.5-inc, Late 2012)
    8GB RAM
    1TB HDD
    Intel Core i5 2.70GHz
    Mac OS X (10.8.5, Build 12F45)
Mac Mail sporadically disconnects from Office 365 Exchange Server. User also has Gmail account setup in Mac Mail, but does not see the issue with this account. When Mail does disconnect from Office 365, it will reconnect on its own when user tries to send an email. This happens on user's iMac (details above) AND his MacBook Air. These two systems are used in two different locations (laptop at home, iMac on site). This leads me to believe it is not a network connectivity issue. I have rebuilt the prefs, Mail folder (~/Library/Containers/com.mail.apple); by rebuilt I mean, completely trashed all the Mail folder and reset everything up from scratch. I also reset the sync services, and I THOUGHT that worked, but the issue ended up coming back.
I realize is this is *likely* an exchange issue, BUT this it the only person experiencing this issue on our campus. If necessary, I will be submitting a ticket to Apple and Microsoft about this, but wanted to see if anyone here has any ideas.
    Thanks!

    Was this ever solved?

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

Is there a way to add this automatically?
For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".

  • Mac mail - SSL option for the SMTP outgoing mail server - Help!

    Thanks!

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • Mac Mail Outgoing SMTP Settings for Exchange account

I can't seem to get my Mac Mail client outgoing smtp settings correct. I am receiving fine but cannot send. My companies IT person does not have any Mac experience and has asked that I use webmail. Please help.

Thank you sooo much for getting back to me. I am back to trying to figure this out.
I have tried to set it up with the mentioned settings without success.
I think the problem is with the Outgoing Mail Server address that was given to me by the IT person - "webmail.outdoordimensions.com".
Typically, when setting accounts up, I have used an address respective to the web access provider - i.e. "smtp.att.yahoo.com". However, this "Exchange" account is something very new to me.
Thanks again for your help. Also what is "TLS-wrapped"? I didn't find a setting option for this.

  • Mac Mail with yahoo plus account difficultly  with account reconditions and outgoing serving sending problems

I'm not exactly a techy.  I have been having real trouble using YAHOO and now YAHOO PLUS with service useing the MAC MAIL application.  This problem started a few weeks back in LION OS and I had apple support and the guys at the genuess bar give it shot and they always improved things but the problem persisted. I had apple care as recently as last night.  After I got of the phone with the gentlemen I started having problems with the outgoing servier again. We even looked into the keychain for problems.  This morning I downloaded OS 10.8 and MAIL is running better but yahoo is still buggy.  Often either the password is not reconized or the outgoing mail can not be sent from the yahoo server.  If I directly to yahoo.com and use their site I don't have this problem so it must be either a compadablity problem.

It can't be a software conflict, because Mail is only connecting to a mail server for Yahoo!, so there's no software conflict to be had.
Your profile says you're running 10.4.1, and the latest release of Tiger is 10.4.11; is there some reason you haven't updated to that version yet? By doing so, it will also update Mail to correct any bugs or security flaws that could be causing this problem.
Even if that's not the problem, you should try opening Mail while holding down the Shift key. Then Control-click in an empty area of your mailbox list pane and select Get Info from the contextual menu. A window will open and you should use the popup menu to select that Yahoo! Mail account and see if it will connect and tell you how many messages are there, and you should be able to download them from that window.
If that doesn't work, post back with your Yahoo! account settings for the incoming and outgoing mail servers.
