Spotify made hundreds of copies of my local files

so i got a new macbook yesterday. set everything up, they did the data transfer from my old one, spotify works fine. i go to add a new local file to a playlist of mine, and i see that it says i have over 350,000 tracks, 29 months worth, taking up 1.9 tb. i know that cant be right, so as i scroll through the local files i see that theres hundreds of copies of most songs in there. almost every song in my local files, which was fairly large and disorganized to begin with, now has over a hundred copies. this is insane, and i dont wanna have to go back and delete all but one of every track i have there. any help?

Hello!
Firstly, please verify on other device if the playlist has all those songs.
Generally the maximum number of songs is about 10,000 tracks per playlist.
If you don't see the songs, then I'd reccommend you to restart your macbook or to close and reopen the Spotify client.
If you see the songs, then I'd reccommend you to contact support here so they can help you sort out the problem, as they can revert playlists to previous states.
If you receive an automated email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it, even if it's from a no-reply address.
Support usually answers within 24-48 hours.
Hope this helps! ♫

  • Spotify won't play local files in newer version (w/o ffmpeg-spotify)

    Hi,
I have recently updated Spotify from AUR to version 0.9.4.183-1 (updated 2013-10-10) and I'm not able to play local files anymore (I was before). Package maintainer says that the major changes in the last version is that ffmpeg-spotify is not needed anymore to play local files (and so it has been marked as outdated), so I guess it has something to do with this fact. Actually, having or not having installed ffmpeg-spotify does not make any difference.
Just for the record, I am using PulseAudio, and when I try to play a local file, I can see in the log the following message:
    19:03:25.415 I [audio_driver_linux.cpp:18 ] Using PulseAudio
    Yep, that's all.
Is this happening to anyone else? Does anybody knows how is Spotify supposed to play local files without ffmpeg?
    Thanks a lot.

Well, funny enough, I've found the solution the minute after I posted the question. To play local files, the necessary package is ffmpeg-compat (in official repo). So I guess this should be added as a dependency of the spotify AUR package?
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Better Import of Local Files to Integrate with Your Music

I switched to Spotify because it let me import my local files. With "Your Music" this has the potential to get even better.
Spotify would be amazing if it scanned your local files and added those songs, albums, and artists to the Songs, Albums, and Artists sections in My Music automatically.
Even better, my local files are not exactly local, they're stored on an external drive, and I've love to have Spotify be able to switch to a Spotify version if the local version is not available (i.e. when I'm not connected to the drive) or it's just taking a long time to load.

If we could do this to better integrate local files with the Your Music album and artist views, I could migrate away from using iTunes on my desktop.  It would be nice as well for this to integrate into the search function.  I actually use the search function more than the other parts of the Your Music view (even though I love those views and gladly welcome them) because it's faster.  If local files could integrate in there (for things that aren't on Spotify), I would never use iTunes.
For example.  I want to listen to [Band A] that isn't on Spotify.  I go to the search bar, type in their name, it appears on the results just like something on Spotify.  I click on their name and am taken to an artist page to see all of their albums that are stored on my computer.  This is different from the filter search for local files because that search does not give an option to better narrow down results to see only one album or all albums by one artist.

  • Spotify won't sync local files

When I download my playlist to my android (Sony Experia ST27i) all my local files are unplayable. They do appear on the phone, but when I try to play them it says ''the song is not available''.
One more thing: when I am on the computer, my phone won't show under ''devices''.
I have followed every instruction but nothing works...
    Please help!

    Galaxy S5. Android version 4.4.2.
None of these methods work. I, too, have tried disabling all firewalls and the antivirus software. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the phone and desktop applications repeatedly. I have updated my router firmware and turned off all router firewalls and enabled UPNP. Offline mode is disabled on the phone.
If I uninstall and reinstall the phone app, then close then reopen the desktop application, the phone DOES show up under devices. The large button on the desktop that says Sync with this device is visible when I click on the device. However, the button doesn't work and nothing changes. If I do any navigating within the phone app, the phone disappears from the devices on the desktop and never comes back until I reinstall the android app on my phone.
The playlists that I made on the computer that are only containing local files (created specifically to try to fix/assess this issue) do show up on the phone. I have selected "download" on the phone, but the local files never download.
People have been complaining about this for so many months without resolution, it's very frustrating.
EDIT: I am also running the desktop as an administrator on Windows 7.
The spotify version running on my desktop is 0.9.14.13.gba5645ad
    The mobile version is 1.7.0.830

  • How do i remove local copies of my iCloud files from my iPhone?

I have a 32GB iPhone 5. I've been using iCloud since its beginning and it does a great job of keeping everything in sync across all devices, but the more I use it, the more I see it taking up space.  How do I remove all of the local/hard copies of my iCloud files from my device without deleting them from iCloud, also? Particularly, i've noticed that, in Keynote on iOS, my presentations will have the cloud icon, showing that they are available for download, but not actually on my device... once i download a presentation to my phone, how to i remove the actual file from my phone, while keeping my icloud copy available for future download? I would love to be able to do this with all of my iWork files on iOS, as it would save me a few gigs of data storage on my iPhone.
in similar fashion, is there a way to remove the local files from my Photostream on my iPhone, while keeping them available to view in a "streaming" fashion? As it is now, if i take an HDR photo and save the HDR and the standard to my camera roll, it then uploads both images to Photostream, which is great, but then i have another copy of both images stored locally on my phone in my photostream folder... this means if i hit the shutter once i wind up with four 8MP images stored on my device... that adds up fast. I understand that people want the security of knowing they have a hard copy backup, but I would love to have the option, at least, to keep my photo stream from being stored on my iPhone/iPad... I want to be able to stream my pictures, just like i stream my music with iTunes Match.  Does this make sense? Does this option already exist and i've just missed it?
Any help with either of these will be a HUGE help, and very appreciated.

Now, when I go to work in Lightroom 5, I have no pictures.
Could you provide more details? Is this the copy of your catalog, or the original catalog? Are you sure you didn't accidentally open some other catalog? If you try the catalogs under File->Open Recent, do you find your photos?

Backups will work properly if you restore the catalog file and the photos to their ORIGINAL locations.

  • Spotify won't sync local files to iphone

I've had local files synced for a long time, but today all tracks appeared as greyed out. I reinstalled the app and now when I press the offline switch nothing happens and the tracks remain greyed out. I've tried everything I have found on this forum: I am connected to the same wi-fi network (which has worked before so there is no problem there), I have about 7gb storage free on my iphone, I have tried reinstalling (several times) both spotify on my iphone and on my mac, I haven't updated the spotify client since this last worked (I went back to version 0.9.15.27 a while ago which did work for local sync). This is probably the most important feature for me so if this isn't getting fixed I will have to end my subscription.

Just follow this instructions (exactly) for you to be able to sync local files from your desktop to your iPhone. Note: This feature is for Premium users only.Using the desktop app, add local music files you want to sync to a playlist.Log into Spotify on your iPhone using the same WiFi network as your desktop.Tap the menu button ().Tap Your Music.
    Tap Playlists.
Tap Local Files, or the playlist containing local files from your computer.Select the playlist containing the local music files and press the Available Offline switch at the top.
A green arrow will appear next to the tracks when syncing is complete.

  • Can't sync local files.

Spotify refuses to sync local files. It will sync every other song but wont even attempt to download local files onto my iphone. They stay grayed out.
IMy iphone and mac are conneced to the same wifi. I have the most recent mac and iphone version of spotify. I just did a clean reinstall of both. I also checked to make sure that I have the most recent IOS and OSX version, and I do. I am using a macbook pro retina 13 inch which I just bought and an iphone 5.

Hi, I have had this problem for such a long time and it has been driving me mad. I couldn't sync my local files that were in my playlist to my iPhone or iPad, for example Fifth Harmony's song 'Worth It'. It was in my local files but wouldn't download and sync even if the playlist was avaliable offline. Yet theiir singles 'Sledgehammer' and 'BO$$' were syncing because they're on Spotify.
Also both my Apple products weren't showing under the devices section even if they were under the same WiFi.
However I have fixed my problem; it is due to the firewall in my HP laptop. I went into my laptop's search bar and typed in 'firewall'. I got a promt for allow a programme through firewall. I clicked on the controll panel for this and I had to change my settings for Spotify as it was only ticked in one box and not both like iTunes is. As soon as I clicked on this and saved the settings, I went back into Spotify and straight away my iPhone 5s appeared under my devices and my playlists that were containing my local files started downloading and syncing.
Hope this helps anyone else with this problem!!

  • Making us able to add LOCAL FILES to the new "Your Music"

First of, I'm a huge fan of the new layout.
But as the title says I'd like to add my own beloved local files to the "Your Music". I don't see why this shouldn't be a possibilty. This way I don't need to have one master playlist, I can just have all the music I like under "Your Music -> Songs".
Also, as suggested earlier, changing the font size could be usable to many people.

Simply put: give us a totally seamless integration of local files and subscribed albums/songs in "your music" or whichever name you choose ... Call it "the bucket" and I don't care, I'm here for the functionality, not the marketing.
I mean: ONE container, with all items displayed (album covers and so on), searchable and playable exactly the same way.
I'm a long time music passionate, and I have a personal collection of hundreds of CDs, which majority is unavailable on spotify. So ATM I'm using iTunes (and iPhone Music app) to listen to my ripped own stuff, and spotify for all the rest. Sounds like a no-brainer to anyone? It's not impossible, iTunes does that exceptionally well.
This is THE ONLY aspect that actually prevents me from subscribing.

  • Local files, a big disappointment.

Spotify is a superb program for listening to music, and i have used it for years. last two years as premium user on a different account. But one thing keeps bothering me, and now it is so bad that i have no choice but to consider going over to something else than Spotify.  LOCAL FILES, FOLKS! Yeah, some of us still uses mp3 files, for different reasons. And trust me on this one, people that still uses mp3 files are people that really likes to enjoy music. That means, we want to be able to see all the information about the song we are listening to, and see the album art. Be it Spotify song or mp3 file. BUT WAIT, WE CAN'T DO THAT! Sure, Spotify supports your old mp3 files, you can import them, and you can listen to them. But i dare you to try to do something like changing the artist name, album and release. Or god forbid, the ALBUM ART..... Because thats when the real problems kick in. Today i found myself a good song i wanted to add to my Spotify playlist, only to find that the artist wasen't on Spotify. Well, fair enaugh i said i'l just get the mp3 file, it will be allright. Let me tell you this, it aint. it aint allright at all. I noticed there werent any album art on it, so i manually downloaded the cover art, and added it. For adding it, i tried doing it via windows media player, VLC and mp3 tag. All of them worked for windows, but when put the song in my local files folder, the album art didn't show on Spotify. Actually, it showed a completely different cover art than the one i added, and for a whole different artist as well.... Besides that, none of the information like artist, song name, album and such that i put in the meta data was showing in Spotify as well. So dear Spotify, PLEASE, just PLEASE do it properly....I think it's normal to expect that a service that you actually pay for, every month, should work properly. Therefore it makes me very dissapointed that a feature that is so important to me, is made in a such a bad way it is. It does not work like it should, at all.  So, Spotfy. Will you now please remember that people also listen to music that isn't on Spotify? So when you give us a option to still listen to that music, with Spotify, please make that function as proffesional and good as the rest of the software is. Thank you. Or not.

    Did Desktop version >> 0.9.x work properly for you? <<   Just curious . . . .

  • Local files won't sync/download

I'm making this question because all the guides I've found are horribly outdated. I have some songs I want to be able to listen on my phone, so I moved them to my local files, created a playlist to test it (because I've seen it's the only way to do this, but that's okay) and the playlist does appear on my phone:
http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o638/lawraWeltreich/uqxLbE9NxZbRzLqqIq9Tgby7QOK77aJT-32hHMUUqtE_zpsgpoth1rk.png bue when I open the playlist and attempt to sync/download it, it's greyed out and nothing happens: http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o638/lawraWeltreich/lPIJUpEORUYcnRaulgyEwtSfJdjrNa3vSN1dmgbzZ-A_zpsp77dk7lf.png I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or the feature to sync local files to my phone is no longer implemented.  either way an aswer would be greatly appreciated.
    ----------------------------------------------------------- EDIT1:
on my computer this is all I see. not sure if I'm doing something wrong or I'm not seeing something http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o638/lawraWeltreich/Sin%20tiacutetulo_zpsph8untuo.png AGAIN, an answer, ANY answer, is all I want. If the feature is been removed, or if this is a known issue, or if there's a workaround, it's OKAY. I just want an answer so I can stop investing my time in this. I can always just move the mp3 files to my SD card but I would prefer to be able to use Spotify for this.

Okay, so  this is how I do it:I have one or more songs in my local files tab in the Spotify Desktop AppI select these songs, then I right click them, and I select "Make a new playlist"I save the playlist, and then I go over to my phone and open the app, to see that playlist I've just created (Your problem here could be that you disabled the Automatic Sync in the Android Settings, therefore your device won't ask the Spotify servers if you had made a new playlist on your desktopI click on the playlist, then I turn the "Available offline" switchNot so short after, the song(s) are on my phone. As far as I know, this is the only way to have your own music from your computer on your phone, you have to download it.EDIT: You might want to wait some time after you turned the switch to on. My phone keeps saying "Awaiting for download" when I turn it on, because some of my songs are not on Spotify and my computer somehow uploads them, and it's weird and I don't know how or why, but it works.

  • How to get access to the local file system when running with Web Start

I'm trying to create a JavaFX app that reads and writes image files to the local file system. Unfortunately, when I run it using the JNLP file that NetBeans generates, I get access permission errors when I try to create an Image object from a .png file.
Is there any way to make this work in Netbeans? I assume I need to sign the jar or something? I tried turning "Enable Web Start" on in the application settings, and "self-sign by generated key", but that made it so the app wouldn't launch at all using the JNLP file.

Same as usual as with any other web start app : sign the app or modify the policies of the local JRE. Better sign the app with a temp certificate.
As for the 2nd error (signed app does not launch), I have no idea as I haven't tried using JWS with FX 2.0 yet. Try to activate console and loggin in Java's control panel options (in W7, JWS logs are in c:\users\<userid>\appdata\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\log) and see if anything appear here.
Anyway JWS errors are notoriously not easy to figure out and the whole technology in itself is temperamental. Find the tool named JaNeLA on the web it will help you analyze syntax error in your JNLP (though it is not aware of the new syntax introduced for FX 2.0 and may produce lots of errors on those) and head to the JWS forum (Java Web Start & JNLP Andrew Thompson who dwells over there is the author of JaNeLA).

  • IPhone doesn't appear as device and sync of local files has stopped working

Oh my god!! why is it so complicated to do something that simple. Add a feature that lets us add our own mp3 directly in spotify with spotify managing them as itunes would (saving in right directory with renaming etc. Make people use your app instead of itunes) And automatically sync the content with devices. It's just too complicated now.. go to prefs add a custom source folder, put all the songs there.. go back to main screen and try to find the iphone (that never appears, I don't even know how to look for it). I never succeeded in adding my mp3. Now I can't see my device anywhere either. I added the song on the desktop app, but with some pain (first tried with itunes source but that doesn't refresh automatically and even if I restarted the app nothing appeared) so I chose the 'folder' source (quick and dirty way to add songs). I added the song to a playlist and tried to sync with my phone (on the same wifi yes).. no nothing happens, the song is there (on the phone) but greyed out (when I click on it it says content not synced, connect the phone on the same wifi bla bla bla) I don't know why it's so complicated.. From the beginning of spotify it never has been userfriendly, even when the phone appeared in device I always had problems and gave up. Hurry up guys! Apple released there own fully integrated streaming service so if we can't play our songs in the same app we will use the one that let us do that. Hopefuly some day we won't have to do this anymore if the streaming services get common and used by everybody, it will put some pressure on artists and they will see that this is the future. Sorry if I may appear rude.. It's getting late and I'm tired.Keep going guys you're doing a great job. But please fix this asap. I'm starting to have a lot of songs that are not on spotify :( And no I don't want to reinstall the iphone app. I don't want to loose my preferences and have to sync my 10gb songs all over again. (Yes I only use spotify localy, I don't have an 'unlimited' data package). Bye :) and as Bon Jovi would say.. ♫♫♫ Have a nice day! ♫♫♫

Until just recently, connection between iPhone app and Windows (7) app has worked fine. I've been able to sync local files to my mobile device. Since two-three weeks ago it hasn't worked. Some Windows updates have been installed and Spotify app has been upgraded. I know I'm on same WiFi and that the iPhone has memory space for the sync, and I'm doing the exact same procedure as always before. I've also tried on both my jobs WiFi and at home. Any ideas?

  • Changes made in LR 1.3 to psd files are not reflected in ACR 4.3, Bridge 2.1.1.9, or Photoshop CS3

I have repeatedly imported several psd images into LR 1.3, made changes in the develop mode, and saved metadata to file manually in addition to having the auto write metadata option on in LR and ACR. Any changes I have made in LR are not reflecting in Bridge previews or in ACR or Photoshop. I don't believe I should have to utilize the write to xmp options (even though I have been) since the files in question are psd and the metadata gets written directly into the file. If I delete the photo from LR, and even delete the LR catalog (new user trying to make it work with 1 photo at least before importing all images) and re-import the psd to LR it appears with the changes and can backlog in the history panel to it's original state upon import into LR. I would have to be in LR though to know that anything was altered as the other Adobe programs will not display the changes.
If anyone has any help - I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks,

    LR 1.3
    Bridge 2.1.1.9
    PS CS3 (updated last week)

I don't think the problem lies in the name. LR is after all meant to function as a data base of images and be a companion program to PS - with PS doing the heavy editing lifting. I do understand that PS is a pixel editing file and LR is not. I like the idea of the non-destructive editing that LR has to offer and for a lot of image "developing" I prefer LR's interface to ACR.
In my humble opinion, I just think that the Photoshop family of products should all be able to read the same metadata. If I am starting in LR with a psd file (with layers) and I continue to process the image further in LR and save the metadata - therefore saving the changes - I want to be able to open that same file (not another copy) in ACR, PS, or Bridge and have those changes reflected. The only way to do that currently is to export the file and when you do that you lose the PS layers and the LR history panel or another way around it is you can have edit copies of the same file. If at a later date you wanted to go back and change something, you can't just pull out a layer in PS or undo a history state in LR and with the multiple copies of essentially the same image you end us with any editing history scattered amongst multiple files. I already keep 2-4 (original, psd, jpeg print, jpeg web) files for one image which I think is more than adequate. Which is why I find the current set up so frustrating. For now I have just settled for exporting jpegs so I can see the changes.

  • Backing up Local File Server to a remote File Server - Best way?

    Hi all,
I am building a project for my University Dissertation which is based on the implementation of an ISO 27000 compliant virtualised environment.
I have three sites ( offices ) each with their own local file server, that i would like to back up every 24 hours to remote primary data centre.
The primary data centre will be based in office 1, and the secondary data centre will be based in office 3.
As this is only a project, and not a real life implementation, all the machines sit on the same network, running on the same physical host, but i need to show the process of backing up the 'local' file servers to the 'remote' ones. Each site will have its
own file server in the data centre.
every 24 hours, the primary data centre will backup the data to the secondary data centre ( this is so i can introduce the idea of business continuity into the project).
Is anybody able to direct me in the right direction for backing up my local servers to a remote server?
Below is my high level diagram, that illustrates what i am doing.
    Many thanks in advance
    Aaron

One way that I have seen many organizations implement is to simply install Microsoft Distributed File System.  You can set up a hub and spoke configuration where the 'master' copies are in the hub location from which you want to backup.  Then any
place the needs copies is a spoke off the hub.
Another possibility would be to use Microsoft's BranchCache capability.
Either one is part of the operating system.  I can't say specifically which would work better for your situation without getting more detail.
