I used to have Spotify student, now it's gone back to normal Spotify ($9.99/month). 1. Why did it do this?2. Why do I have switch accounts to free just to go back to Student? (Simply put, why can't you just go from Premium to Student?)

The Student discount offer needs to be renewed yearly.
After 12 months with this offer, you'll start paying normally.
To get back the discount, you just need to re-enter the info you gave one year ago.
Referring to your second question, I don't really know why you need to go back to Free to then get the Student discount, but I think it's because there would be a payment mistake and you would be charged wrongly.

  • Can't subscribe to spotify student by UNiDAYS

    Today i've tried to register for a spotify student subscription by UNiDAYS.UNiDAYS, Student, Premium, 
    Therefore i cancelled by current spotify premium. Then i tried to register for the student subscription but i always get a message telling me that i can't register for the student subscription.
    These are the steps i have followed:
    1. Unsubscribe current subscription
    2. Register at UNiDAYS and verify as a student. (Verified until 19.November.2015)
    3.Go to UNiDAYS and choose the 50% Student discount.
    4.Click on "Receive Discount"
    5. Login into spotify (if not logged in)
    Then the message appeared...
    Account information:
    Name: musicsnatch
    Country: Germany
    Discount by: UNiDAYS.
    Is this a bug ? Is there any other way to subscrube for the student subscription ?

    Hmm that doesn't sound right. If it's still not working today, contact Spotify directly through the online contact form and they will be able to get you on board! If you receive an automated e-mail directing you back to the community just reply to it and you will be connected with an agent that will be more than happy to assist you!

  • Can't unlink Spotify Student from old Account

    Hey, I have an old Spotify account created with Facebook login and a new one via email login.The old account was linked to Unidays for Spotify Student discount, I canceled the subscription and now I have two free accounts. The problem is I can't apply the Student discount to the new account because it says it is still linked to another account.I already made up contact with the Unidays support and I was told to aks here for help as it was a Spotify concern. I still am eligible to use this discount as I am still a student and it's still verified in Unidays. Thank you in advanceErik

  • Trying to get Spotify student discount, but it won't let me pay.

    I've been trying to get the student discount for premium. I've already validated that I am a student at a university. But every time I put in my payment information, it gives me the error:  Oops, seems your card or payment provider is having a bad day. Don't worry, no money has been charged. Try again or use another payment method. I know that my card is working because I've been using it to purchase other things online. It's just not working with Spotify.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

    I was given a free month and asked to try again after that. My free month expired today and I attempted to sign up with my NUS student discount expecting it to fail but it didn't!!! 1) I visited https://www.spotify.com/uk/student/2) I selected get premium with NUS Extra3) I entered my credit card details - and it accepetd them (this was a probelm with multiple cards last month even though they were fine)4) I entered my NUS number and date of birth5) it worked!!!!! Hooray!

  • Spotify Student Discount after email change

    I started my Spotify Premium account with the 3 months for $0.99, but when I originally made my account I used a personal email rather than my university one. The 3 month trial ends on the 16th of this month, and I just changed my email address to my university one. How can I make sure that I get charged with the student discount rather than pay the full $9.99 a month for premium?

    Hello, Ive been on Spotify Premium for over a year, and I have been using the student discount (bless). However, I am now getting charged for the full $10 for premium. I read online that I have to keeping proving that I am a student, which I can do. But, I would like to know where I can "renew" my student discount. Thanks :)

  • Spotify student discount won't accept my college!!

    I've been trying to get spotify premium student discount and when I type in my college it won't let me click the drop down name to my university. Im not sure if it just doesn't work for my school or what is happening! Please help!

    Support usually replies within 24-48 hours.
    If you still have not gotten a reply:
    Did you get a confirmation email from the contact form? It should be similar to "Spotify Support Case #XXXXXXX". If so, reply back to that email and tell them you still need help.
    If you got an automated reply email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it saying you still need help, even if it's from a no-reply address.
    If you never got an email, look in your spam folder to see if there is an email in there. Make sure you are checking the email account you used to sign up to Spotify. You can check the email on your account here.

  • Switched out of Spotify Student

    I've been using Spotify Premium with the student discount for a while, but this month I got switched to paying the full $9.99. That's an issue on its own, but it seems I can't reapply for the discount either even though I'm still in school. What do I do?  

    I just rejoined my medical school class after having been away for a year, and having been paying 10$ per month for premium spotify. I also want to get back to the student discount price, for the final year of med school. It says I need to request manual verification in the student discount FAQ, but then there's no link to where I can ask for manual verification. Can someone from Spotify help me with this? thanks.

    I was using spotify premium and the 60 day free trial however I am now going to school and want to use the spotify student discount. For some reason it would not let me switch premium settings with the same payment information, does anyone know why or what i can do???

    What's the error message you are receiving? 
    More than likely, I think you are experiencing the main bug that doesn't let you apply the discount if you currently have an active premium subscription. If that is the case, then you need to cancel your premium subscription here and wait until your account reverts back to Spotify Free before applying the student discount. 

  • Student Discount no longer applies to me

    So for the last year, I've been using my Spotify Student discount to listen to music with no problem. Today, I check my card statement and it appears that Spotify has charged me $10 instead of the student discounted $5. What's up with that? I'm still a student at my university, I already submitted a screenshot of my schedule this year to appease you scheisters. (completely ridiculous) You want me to pay $10 now that a year has gone by? Great policy. You see, the only reason I use Spotify is because it's $5. There are plenty of more established music services (looking at you, Google Music) that I will use instead of Spotify if you guys decide to keep this braindead policy of jacking up the price on students. Fix this. I'm still a student. You still want a customer. I will jump to Google Music if you charge me $10 a month instead of $5. And if your policy is to cancel the student rate after a year, WHY IS THIS INFORMATION NOT SHARED? It's like pulling teeth trying to get info from this website. 

    i would like to highlight the problem that we are experiencing. We are STILL students. We were never notified about the ending of our contract as a student. the fact that they can just charge us double the amount that we have been paying is f*cking unacceptable. yes, we enjoy musc at a reduced price, but it is unfair for us to be charged without any notification on my account that i would be charged double from now on. Yes, i understand that the saved their asses by having that written in the contract. i think the real problem that i have is the **bleep**ty customer service that they offer, or should i say DON'T OFFER. no way to contact, no way to call, just discussion boards tht we wait to have commented on by other frustrated cusomers. On top of all of this, i should not have to cancel my subscription in order to apply the discount again on my account.

    HelloI just found out that there was some sort of student discount while watching a youtube video comparing apple music and spotify. This student discount quickly intrested me as I have been paying full price for spotify premium for the last year. I went on to the spotify website but was not able to find out how I can redeeme my student discount. After doing some reasearch with no answers I contacted spotify and found out that this is not world wide. If students in the US get a discount I dont know why students in switzerland don't. I think that the spotify student discount should also apply to switzerland so more students can enjoy great music. Thanks

    I got my Spotify Student discount subscription back in April of 2014. I noticed the last few months that I was getting charged the original 9.99 after the 1 year I had Spotify. Do i have to verify that I am still a student or is 1 year the max you can have of the Student discount?

    The student discount has to be renewed every year as it expires after a year, you can just activate student discount again and youll be charged the doscounted cost again :)

  • Having trouble with getting student discount

    I am trying to purchase Spotify premium (for the first time) on my NUS student discount. I click the 'Spotify Student Discount' link on the NUS website which takes me to the 'Sign up now' page. Clicking the sign up now link takes me to a page where I click confirm purchase, then I have to type in my Facebook password, which I do. However, when I click 'Continue' on the subsequent Facebook page that opens I get taken back to the same page as before, rather than being allowed to then pay. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong?

    I dont know if this is the place to post this but I am being charged for a spotify student subscription even though all my accounts still say free and i have no subscriptions. how do i fix this? i only want free i never gave anyone my card details to charge for spotify.

  • Spotify Charing me Full Price - Where did my student discount go?

    I'd been having the student discount price since last year and suddenly, with no warning (which I think is poor business practice but whatever) it's reverted to full price. I went to the student discount page to see if I need to sign up for it again but it says I am not eligible for the student rate, despite still being an enrolled, full-time university. I'm seeing in the T&C that the student discount does only go for 12 months. This seems silly, since most people are students for 4+ years, but whatever. The bottom line is that I wasn't warned of this account switch beforehand. How do I go about either being put back on the discounted price and having the difference refunded to me for this month's charge, or cancelling premium altogether and having all of this month cancelled instead?

    I apologize for the billing change to your account. The student discount can be a little tricky at times. As you saw in the terms and conditions, the student discount needs to be re-verified every 12 months. The problem is that the account cannot have an active subscription while applying the discount. Since you currently have Spotify Premium, you need to cancel it here and wait for your account to revert back to 'Spotify Free' before re-applying the discount.
