Spotlight can't find anything
Spotlight is getting to be real disappointing. I have messed around with it for weeks trying to get my processor from overloading on it. Now it can't find anything. Files I KNOW are there in my Documents folder do not show up, instead all I see is hundreds of programming files I don't care about. Preferences do not help. Does anyone have a final solution to this problem?
Hard to say since the problem isn't too clear. What do you mean when saying the processor is overheating? Do you mean that Spotlight won't finish indexing? As for not finding anything, it works fine as long the indexing is complete and up to date and you always include system files. Which programming files are showing up? Have examples?

The same on my iPhone 4S with iOS 5.0.1. Must disable the in-Mail search option in General->Spotlight settings menu to make it work again, but you loose all the Mail indexing.

Spotlight can't find file (even after re-indexing)
I have a files right on my desktop that neither spotlight or finder can find in their search results. Don't know when this started happening, but very weird. I've re-indexed several different ways but still no luck. Anybody run into this?

The PROBLEM (which I solved) was that the user (the name with the little house next to it), had had its priveleges changes from Read/Write to Write Only (Drop Box).
I have no idea how or why that happened, but the result was Spotlight couldn't find anything. Once I put the privelege back to Read/Write, everything works fine now and Spotlight is once again all seeing! The priveleges are those little Sharing and Permissions section at the bottom of the Info summary (Get Info).
I am back to using Spotlight again and I've made sure any changes to me (the user) are under my lock and key. -
Finder can't find anything in my library
I am the single user of a new iMac 10.5.1. Finder or spotlight won't find anything in the library
i.e. Hard Drive>Library>"Printer Folder" = cant find
but Users>my account>Library>"Printer Folder" It cant find also.
However all the other folders in my Home it can find????
With Get Info the permissions are identical. I have run Disk Utility, repaired permissions. Funny thing is I went into the Apple Store and their display iMac did the same. Anyone else?It is due to the new way Spotlight handles searching "system files"--see for instance this discussion:

Just follow the directions to add the system files to the result list.

I upgraded my Iphone to IOS6, but now I can't connect it to itunes (10.6.3) because it is not upgraded. However, when I want to upgraded, it says that my computer (imac Mac OS 10.5.8) needs to be upgraded to another version. I can't find anything to help me out.
You need iTunes 10.7 or later.

Since updating to 3.6.1 I don’t get an empty browser window in my tool bar when it opens --- just a list of search engines. I can’t find anything in “Help” or the FAQ’s that seem to address this.
My only choice seems to go back to Safari.I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.

I have an iMac running OX 10.5.8
I need a portable external hard drive to back it up before updating the software to Yosemite but I can't find anything that doesn't require you to be running at least OX 10.6. Is there a suitable hard drive? I'm not very technical and wouldn't know how to do any formatting so I want it to be very basic so that I can just plug it in. 500GB should be more than adequate.Correct. When you purchase devices, they would have stated the OS they needed to work, on the box. This can be overlooked, but it is very important to check when purchasing.
You current OS, is so old, that they technology build into the new devices, is not something your OS understands. It didn't exist when your OS was created, and therefore you need to upgrade the OS to work with the newer technology of these devices.

I want to transfer an audiobook and a movie from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 4S, and can't figure out how. I went to "Help" and it said after connecting the two devices I should "Click Apps," but I can't find anything labeled "Apps" to click. Help?!!
If you have iTunes 11 on your Mac then you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S, that might make it easier to navigate.
Connect the phone to your Mac and select it on that left-hand sidebar, and on the right-hand side of the screen there should be a series of tabs which you can use to select what to sync to the phone. If it's an audiobook then it should appear on the Books tab for selecting/syncing, and films will be on the Movies tab. When you've got the audiobook on your phone you should get an Audiobooks option in the Music app (you might need to tap the '...' tab at the bottom of the Music app to see it). -
I'm getting prompted to update adobe acrobat 9.5.5 which I have deleted. I am currently using 10.1.13. It is still asking me to update 9.5.5 (can't find anything using it) I have tried to cancel the update prompts for 9.5.5, but it only recognizes the 10.1.13 version. Suggestions? Am I missing something? It's driving me crazy!

Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Also, go to Control Panel/System Preferences in Windows/MAC and check whether Acrobat 9 is shown under installed programs list.
You might also try running Acrobat cleaner tool to remove all traces of previous versions of Acrobat:

Then, install Acrobat X again from the link mentioned below:
Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X

I need to reset my security questions but i can't find anything that says reset questions here.
The reset link will only show if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account. If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset - which will normally be by phone as they need to confirm your id and that it's your account.

I can't find anything backed up in Mail !

I open mail, then I hit time machine and I can't find anything backed up! But I can see (and restore) all data backed up since april 2010 when I started using Time Machine.

The only other thing I can think of is, something in your installation of OSX relating to Mail's display in Time Machine is damaged/corrupted.
I'd suggest downloading and installing the 10.6.6 "combo" update. That's the cleverly-named combination of all the updates to Snow Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349 Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.
If that doesn't help, reinstall OSX from your Snow Leopard Install disc (that won't affect anything else), then apply the "combo" again. -
