Spotlight can't find my PDF files.

Hi all,
just bought a ipad mini.
I have downloaded Adobe PDF reader.
I have placed several pdf files on my device.
When I use Spotlight to search for a file, it can't find it.
It does not list any of my pdf files.
In Settings - General - Spotlight Search, all the items are ticked.
I have tried rebooting.
Is there a solution to this problem?
Many thanks
John

As far as I know, it's not possible to search your documents. Read here: iOS: Understanding Spotlight Search

why my spotlight can not find my personal files ? It can find them before but can not find them now,I want to know why?

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Spotlight ▹ Privacy
The list of items excluded from Spotlight indexing is shown (it may be empty.) Click the plus (“+”) icon to add an item to the list. Select your boot volume (under DEVICES) and add it to the list. Then remove it from the list by selecting it and clicking the minus (“-“) icon.
Spotlight will rebuild the index. If you try to do a Spotlight search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, a pulsing dot will appear in the icon. When the dot disappears, the indexing is complete.

  • I can't find the .pdf file after hitting Buy Book

    Hello,
I have made a book, and I am ready to order.
I click on the 'buy book' button, the book assembles, and I get to the Order Book screen.
I then went looking to preview the .pdf before ordering. I followed Old Toad's instructions on how to find it but I can find only "private/var/tmp/folders.502" file. The path specified by Old Toad is not there. I have looked in all the folders that remotely resemble the desired path but I can't find anything. I have tried Spotlight to find a pdf file created today and I don't get anything either. I am using 5.0.4. What am I doing wrong. Thank you in advance.
    Elena
    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I found it. The path was slightly different and I didn't find it the first 5 times through. I guess I need more sleep.
    The path was
    /private/var/tmp/folders.502/TemporaryItems/iPhoto

    Greetings,
The issue is really quite confusing but not impossible to work around. I spent about 10 minutes cursing the gods above and contemplating all manner of evil upon Apple and Adobe until the heavens opened and showed me the light.
    Follow closely...
Solution 1. Move a copy of your Adobe PDF's to an alternate location such as a removable drive (USB Drive, External Hard Drive). I can almost say with 100% certainty that spotlight with be able to search inside of the documents in the alternate location.
Solution 2. In Adobe 7.0 Pro, go to the Advanced menu and use the PDF optimizer to save a copy of your PDF again in the same location as the original with a different filename. For example MyPDF.pdf becomes MyPDFoptimized.pdf.
Both solutions worked for me, so...
Good luck and let me know if this helps anyone else.

  • Spotlight Can't Find My Raw Files

For months now, Spotlight has been unable to find my raw files. If I type .CR2, it finds them just fine, if I type any digit(s) at all before the .CR2, it can't find them. The same problems happen with my older camera that ends raw files .CRW
I'm not concerned with the metadata, just the file by name.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    George

Ah, the difference is between using the "quickie" Spotlight versus the full Command-F, which returns much better results.
Reading what you are getting strikes me as showing that the metadata importer handling your new camera's files is not working quite right. Thus, I have one drive that is searchable with Spotlight, but not indexed (it is a bit tricky to set it up that way). If I do a quick Spotlight search on "4039" my camera raw files that are on the fully indexed drives all show up, but the copy on the non-indexed drive does not. If I do a full Command-F search, with the two criteria of Kind:Canon Camera and Name Contains 4039, then it does show up. So I would guess that your new files are behving as if they are not fully indexed, and that the camera raw support in the metadata importer is lacking for that camera's files. Perhaps your new camera's raw format is just not fully supported yet. Have you run the latest Camera Raw updater from Apple?
Also you might try one of the search utilities that doesn't depend on indexing, EasyFind is free:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/index.html
You might find you like it better. Because it does a brute force search it can be rather slow. If you restrict it to just the folder that contains images, even if the folder is quite large with many sub-folders, rather than having it do a whole drive, its performance is actually quite fast.

  • Can't find my PDF files on my iPad 1

Since upgrading to the ISO5 software on my iPad 1 my pdf files keep disappearing.

    Try these simple fixes first.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
I don't know where you save your pdf files on your iPad but when you say they keep disappearing - with no user action involved? Give an example of how they disappear - the circumstances???

  • Currently use acrobat 6.  getting box that states: can't find adobe pdf resource files... need help

Getting a box that states: can't find
adobe pdf resource files... need help!!!

I get a similar error, but only under the following conditions:  I must be printing to the Adobe PDF printer and printing multiple pages, one at a time, and then it only happens on the second and subsequent print attempts.  That is to say, the first page prints just fine and this just started yesterday afternoon. The specific file referenced in the error does not exist, but why would it work the first time and not the second?  Since it only started yesterday, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling this morning, but it made no difference.  I don't see anything under print properties like job-options and it is a single user, unshared printer.  Thoughts?  I understand the same thing is happening in at least one other of our locations, but no one there has looked into it yet.  This is a BIG problem for me, however, and I need to find an answer quickly.

  • How do I locate non picture files and location? I'm getting low memory and can't find word,PDF etc

how do I locate non picture files and location? I'm getting low memory and can't find word,PDF etc

iPads don't have a filesystem like a computer, Files of that nature must be associated with an App and reside inside that particular App's file space.  So the way to find them is to open the App that opens that file type and look in its file or document list for them.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

  • I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 on Windows XP, SP3

I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 All-in-One.
I have an (obsolete) Windows XP, SP3 computer.  Obviously, no updates from Microsoft
have occurred that might have impacted my Canon Pixma MX479.
When I attempt to send 1 or more pages from a PDF file to the printer, I don't even get the
Canon PIXMA popup that would allow me to cancel the print job.
Yet the Print Queue icon appears in the lower right corner of my monitor.
If I view the Print Queue, the print queue shows "spooling" and does nothing more.
If I attempt to CANCEL the print job in the Print Queue, it simply changes to "deleting -
    spooling".
I cannot cancel the print job that shows NOT RESPONDING via Task Manager, either.
In fact, the only way the Print Queue icon disappears is if I totally reboot my computer!
"Luckily", I can still print e-mails, Word documents, and even my downloaded PDF of my
    bank statement.
So, I was thinking that it was *only* PIXMA'S OWN SCANNED PDFS that could not be
printed ON THE SAME PIXMA 479.
However, I have since realized that I also cannot print USPS Signature Proof of Delivery
PDFs that I received from USPS via e-mail.
So why can I print *some* PDF files, but not *all* PDF files, like I previously could do?
THESE SCANS ARE OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, SO I WILL LIKELY HAVE TO E-MAIL
THE REQUISITE, PREVIOUSLY SCANNED PDFS TO FEDEX TO PAY FOR *THEM*
    TO PRINT THEM.
NOTE: I *have* tried turning the PIXMA off, unplugging it, rebooting the computer, plugging
the PIXM in and restarting the PIXMA - still no ability to print PIXMA-scanned PDFs.
And, I find it very strange that e-mails, Word documents, and some other PDFs print with
no problem "around" "NOT RESPONDING" PIXMA print jobs.
I have owned Canon printers for years, including the MX420, and the MX340.

There may be some security issues related to the USPS PDFs.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

    SAFARI CAN'T OPEN PDF'S ?
I can no longer open pdf files in safari 6.02.  It worked fine up until  2 weeks ago.  The pdf's open in Foxfire and Chrome browsers.
I can also download the pdf and open in acrobat directly.  Safari only shows the file as ASCII characters.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
