Spotlight Dead Alias removal help

Hi.
I recently discovered that some of the WMV files that used to be on my machine, are still found by FINDER. These are dead alias files that I can't seem to actually remove.
Any suggestions on really good cleaning utilities that go system wide?

Hi Aaron, I can recommend some system utilities, you can try Cocktail or OnyX.
But could you be more specific about your issue? These are alias files which should delete easily.
Is the issue just that spotlight still lists them or they are actually are on your hard drive? Can see you see them in Finder or are they invisible? If they are invisible, you can use either Cocktail or Onyx to "show invisibles" in Finder and delete them. If it is only an issue with Spotlight then you may want to re-index.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

OBIEE Customization - Removing Help (?) icon Across OBIEE11g Application

Hi,
I am using OBIEE 11g and I need to remove 'Help' (?) icon across OBIEE Application. Can you pls. guide me to achieve it.

Instead of removing I would suggest to replace the icon with some other icon
look for the file loc
OFM\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\msgdb\uicomponents\obips.ToolbarHeader.xml
replace ? mark icont with . or dot icon

Upgrading to Mavericks, the spotlight search is removed.

After upgrading to mavericks the spotlight search is removed from Pages, Numbers that i know of. Applications is ticked in Prefrences for Spotlight.

On start up - loud pop, burning smell, dead Mac. Help, please!

This morning when my wife tried to fire up her heretofore reliable G5, there was what she described as first a popping sound followed by the smell of something burning. The smell went away quickly, but the computer now seems to be dead. My guess after looking through the forum is the power source. But having learned the hard way about making assumptions I'd like to run it by people (this forum) who know a lot more about my Mac than I do!
Does this sound like a power source issue, and if not what else can it be? Assuming the power source is the problem, how do I determine the correct replacement? I know the computer is a G5 2.0, but I'm not sure of production date, etc. that I might need to know to get the right replacement. Finally, where is the best place to get a replacement power source, hopefully without paying more than the value of the machine?

OK, before we go any farther, is the flat-liner G5 liquid cooled?
Actually, specific model information would probably help. Remove the big side panel and look at the tiny label at the bottom of the side of the computer. That will have, among other things, the serial number and some information as to the configuration of the computer when shipped. Using the serial number, you can get more specific information on the unit at

(It also appears that the first three digits in the serial number conform to the year and week of production. (310 means tenth week of 2003, for instance).
Usually, a popping sound followed by a burning smell means a capacitor. Those who have experienced such over the years recognize the smell of cooked electrolyte, as opposed to the smell of roasted magnet-wire varnish that accompanies a transformer failure.
While the power supply is the most-likely culprit, it could be a cap on the logic board or a PCI or video card. The good news is that such failures are usually easy to spot by visual inspection. That being said, not all capacitors are visible, like, for instance, everything in the power supply assembly.
While it would probably be relatively easy for an experienced person to diagnose, it probably is not something for the inexperienced to tackle.

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM first, if that doesn't help try a cleaning disc.....and then buy an inexpensive external burner. Slimline super drive failures are all too common.
To reset the SMC
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Try a reset:

Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard Text Box Enter Space is Removed -- Help

Got a new computer at work with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and it is taking some getting use to (came from Acrobat 7 Professional).
I need some help with the text box tool. When I create a text box and use the enter key and click out of the text box the space is removed where I hit enter. I googled around and if I use cntrl and then hit enter the space will stay there. How do I get around this so I do not have to hold cntrl everytime. Plus if I go back into that text box and add another space it removes the space from before so I would have to add the spaces in again. I hope this is a setting I have messed up. It is quite annoying and hopefully someone can help me out.
I am on Windows 7 Professional if it matters.

I've reported this as a bug a number of times since Acrobat 9 was released and so far they have refused to fix it in Acrobat 9/10/11. I had never heard of the Ctrl+Enter workaround, so thanks for that.

Processor removal help: G5 liquid cooled

I am looking for some help on removing the heat sync/ processor on a dual 2.5 with the liquid cooled unit.
The 8 CPU Heatsink Allen screws 2.5 mm. that sit in the "Lagshields" are loosened, but the CPU unit still is being held down by more fasteners?
Which other fasteners ( the torx screws?) need loosening to be able to lift the CPU unit free of the board ?
Has anybody done this that can remember the procedure.

Thanks to all who provided help on this. I did in the end get a copy of the Service Source for the model I was working on (a late 2004 2.5 dual LCS Heat Sink model) which made all the difference. This document is essential. Thanks to a discussion user who had a copy! In my case I needed to replace a blown PSU (not an overly difficult task for anyone who is proficient in removing and replacing components)
While I understand the logic for Apple to not make this document too readily available I disagree with this strategy. There is nothing overly technical in this document and in the end people will be lead down the wrong pathe (and do more damage) if they cannot get good info. In my case I found all kinds of miss-leading info about how to pull the processor unit for my machine. Some said remove all the screws, others said just 4 screws (in fact there are 8) Some said don't do it it is complicated, others said it is no more difficult than an air cooled unit. Oddly Apple's site only showed the Service Source document for the earlier air cooled models, which is only helpful to a certain degree.
My point is that too keep things a mystery by not allowing good info to be had causes more harm. Maybe that's the intention ? Anyway I am big fan of Open Source, collaborative sharing of ideas etc. So forums like this are a big help.

Removing help icon from LoginProvider

I am new to Sun Portal Server 7.1 Update 1, and am looking for a way to remove the 'help' icon from the LoginProvider for the devauthlessanonymous user. I am making use of the Developer's Sample portal that comes bundled with the product, and want to eliminate all icons that appear in providers/containers/channels.
Within PSConsole, for the have updated the helpURL property to be "" instead of the default en/desktop/login.htm, per the Portal Server 7.1 Technical Reference guide. After doing so, the icon remains but instead directs the user to login to the web server doc root (e.g. /porta/docs).
Are there any other parent provider/container/channel helpURL fields that I need to update as well, or do I need to enter a different value for the helpURL field in the LoginProvider for the devauthlessanonymous user?

Remove Help Icon

Hi,
I am customizing the TopBar View and I was wondering how you would remove the help icon?? I want to keep the link but not have the image.

What I usually do is check the element in the browser's developer tools - for e.g. Chrome's "Inspect Element". This way I can identify the id of the element in the ADF Faces source file (.jsff).
In the folderViewer case the element id was "cilhelp" and the tag in the .jsff is below

Email alias use - help suggestion doesn't work

When sending mail from my .Mac account (via Safari), I can use either my main account or one of two aliases as the "From". When in Mail (2.1.1), I can only use the main account (the aliases don't show up) - tried the action button help, but it's already checked.
I recently upgraded from an older Mac. Thouht I had copied everything, but something got messed up as this did work on the old Mac. Tried the Help suggestion, "Get Prefs, put alias names in Account Info Name Fiekd, etc" - didn't work. Went back to old Mac to get com.apple.mail.plist file, but it isn't there. Any ideas?? Suggestions appreciated.

Create a new account in Mail for each alias: enter garbage in the POP details (different for each one), but the correct details for SMTP, and give the alias as the address. Make sure that in the 'Advanced' tab, 'Include when automatically checking for new mail' is not checked but that 'Enable this account' is. You may find it better to send using the ISP you are connected to the new with rather thann .Mac.
Now the aliases will appear in the drop-down.
