Spotlight failed to index iWork documents

I have noticed that with Lion Spotlight was not indexing the content of iWork 09 documents.  It does find the filenames, but if you search for a term that is inside the document, Spotlight will not find it.  I've tested this thoroughly, creating specifc documents for the purpose, etc, and the result is clear, the content of iWork 09 documents is not indexed, only the filenames are.
I have tried forcing Spotlight to reindex the HD volume, but the problem is still there.  Have run disk verification and persmisisons repaire and still no good.  I can't say if the problem was there from day one I installed Lion (about a week ago) or if it is something that happened more recently.
Is anyone else having similar problems?  Any idea of a solution?

Go to sys preferences / spotlight privacy tab and add your internal drive to the list there, then subtract it after a minute or so. you should see the spotlight indexing indicator after that and the machine will re-index. After that, try again and let us know!

  • Spotlight failing to index all items after 10.5 upgrade

I have found an issue (at least on my computer) where Spotlight does not index all items (in this case folders) on the local hard drive. I confirmed this by searching for a known folder and having Spotlight produce no results when searching for it. I then renamed the folder with a name such as "folder_old" and then created a new folder under 10.5 with the original name. I then moved the contents of the previous folder to the new one and then Spotlight successfully finds the folder. Here's the problem...I am a long time Mac user and I have thousands of folders. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
I also feel Apple should allow users to select if they are searching for a file name or contents prior to the start of the find in the spotlight menu bar. Give the users some options.

  • Spotlight failing to Index drive

I currently have problems, with spotlight indexing drives.
I've gone to spotlight preferences and added the drive using the privacy tab, then removed it to "re-index" the drive but i still see spotlight in the top right hand corner "estimating index time" on the drive.
I've left the computer on overnight with no change.

    HI,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file: com.apple.spotlight.plist to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Spotlight mysteriously re-indexes after some failed searches?

    Well here's an odd one:
About a week ago I had occasion to migrate a "standard" account from one Leopard computer to a fresh Leopard computer where it became the second account on the new machine (after the Admin account). This was done with Migration Assistant and completed without problems.
The original account was inherited from a Tiger 10.4.10 installation on the old machine via a default, "upgrade", install of Leopard.
Spotlight searches of the Home directory of that account worked just fine on the old machine. There is nothing in the Spotlight preferences Privacy list in either the old machine or the new machine. It may be relevant that the old machine was the Powerbook listed in my tag line below. The new machine is a Macbook. I've had no other Spotlight problems on either machine.
Today I had occasion to search for a folder in the Home directory of this account on the new machine. To my surprise, it did not show in the results. OTHER stuff showed up, but not this folder.
So I opened a Finder window and did a Command-f to bring up the search criteria and started playing around with search criteria (specifying "kind" = "folder" for example) to see if I could isolate the problem. Periodically I also retried searching in the regular Spotlight drop down to compare results. The upshot was that it seemed NOTHING in the Home directory of this migrated account had been indexed.
And then, for no obvious reason, and about 5-10 minutes into poking around like this, I discovered Spotlight was "indexing". It had about 20 minutes of indexing to do.
Again, I had not been doing anything in the Spotlight preferences -- just trying different search criteria in the Finder window. So why index now?
When it finished indexing, searches for files or content in the Home directory of this account, either via the Finder window or the Spotlight drop down, all worked fine.
NOW, why should Spotlight decide just at this moment to index this account? The account has been in heavy use on this machine for about week (although I had not had occasion to do searches in it).
And the indexing didn't start until about 5-10 minutes into the search and re-search process trying to explore the limits of Spotlight's "blind spot".
Does Spotlight fail to realize it needs to index a migrated account?
Does Spotlight have some sort of fail safe mechanism where it revisits the need to index things after so many repeated searches or searches with no results?
    Mysterious indeed.

Review the hits from a google search for socket(PF_ROUTE). IMO, something's blocking access, most likely mucked up permissions on the server; however, I don't muck with servers or AD and you might be better off perusing MS's forums for AD info.

  • How do I search iWork documents on my iPad?

I have dozens of Numbers files and when I search they are not returned, also no option in Spotlight to index iWork docs.

I think you answered your own question. I do not use Numbers but I do use Pages. There is no way to search the files in Pages either. You can sort the documents by name or by date. I imagine that Numbers works the same way. What you see is what you get in Spotlight. You cannot add new categories to the search function.

  • Crawler not indexing the documents from repository

    Hi All,
    I've installed TREX 6.1.09 with EP6.(version=6.0.9.0.0 and
    KnowledgeManagementCollaboration 6.0.9.0.0 (NW04 SPS09) on my Windows 2003 platform.
NameServer port is configured in J2EE visual Administrator and also all lights are green in TREX Monitor in KM -> Monitoring.
Now, i created an index and assigned my newely uploaded Portal.par as a Datasource to it. One more thing, i logged into the portal as as Administrator and all this has done successfully.
But when i check in the TREX Monitor, i see both index and its associated queue are idle and also indexing of document is not taking place.
When i checked ApplicationLog it gives me the XCrawler error like below
"Error  4/25/06 7:33:03 PM  XCrawlerService  Failed to create crawler task index2_FileNet - com.sapportals.wcm.service.xcrawler.XCrawlerException: The SQL statement "SELECT "XCRW_TASK_INDEX" FROM "KMC_XCRW_TASKS" WHERE "XCRW_TASK_ID" = ?" contains the semantics error[s]: type check error "
Sir, i've already done all the work around given in the Discussion Forum but could not got my problem solved.
Plz. guide me where i'm wrong in configuration ASAP.
    Lot of Thanks in advance

    hi Mridul,
This is a quite an exception that occurs in sp9. I experienced the same exception and so does most others. The solution is to upgrade to sp14.
This has been suggested by Mr.Noufal in his weblog. Read it
An installation that kept me searching
Also the thread he refers in his blog
    Re: XCrawlerException with index
So the thing you need to do is apply the patch and upgrade it straight away as it will work afterwards.

  • All my synched iWork documents no longer open on my MacBook

I have Keynote and Pages on my third gen iPad and on my MacBook pro. Last week I did the app store upgrade for Pages 4.3 build 1048 and Keynote 5.3 build 1170. My MacBook is running 10.7.5. First it seemed to move all my synched documents from their original homes to a Mobile Documents folder in my Library. The real problem is that none of them will open on my MacBook. I get a message that says "Unable to open "filename" because its filetype isn't supported." This happens with every synched iWork document, both Pages and Keynote. Get Info show that they've all had "-tef" appended to the normal .pages or .key extension. Deleting the .tef doesn't help but in Pages it tells me the the required index.xml file is missing. This was all working fine until I allowed the upgrade, which ironically was supposed to improve iCloud performance. changing the extension to .zip and back didn't work either.
I'm trying to download an effected file from iCloud but it's pathetically slow today, over an hour into it and only 7 MB so far.
    Any suggestions?

    Exactly the same problem here!

  • Spotlight hanging while indexing

If anyone has a solution to perhaps delete a corrupt spotlight database i'd be grateful.  I am getting frequent finder (spinning wheel) hangs and spotlight gets stuck indexing.  I'm at wits end.  Reinstalled the latest system multiple times - tried to search for offending software - still getting hangs.

  • Cant open iWork documents on iCloud

    Hi guys,
I am running mountain lion 10.8.2, I put a few documents up into iCloud when 10.8 was released and they were working just fine, now cannot open a few numbers & pages documents.
I have 5 pages documents saved in iCloud, 2 docs I can open (the doc preview has the text) and 3 others I cant open (these have the pages icon as the preview) I have found the same issue in numbers.
I have unticked the documents option in the settings, let all the documents delete and then reticked it with no success.
I also went to the iCloud website and tried to download it from there and it says "Document cant be downloaded, please try again"
Tried dragging it onto my desktop from pages and get this “Document name” cannot be converted. Please install a newer version of iWork. I'm on pages 4.2 the latest version according to the app store.
I also logged onto my MBP at home and couldn't open the documents either.
I certainly hope this is fixable!!!!

Any progress on the 'copy your Time Machine backup' version of this issue? I started getting these errors 12 hours into a 24 hour copy… and eventually the copy failed.
Funny, I had the same symptoms, 12 hours into a 24 hour copy, too. (example below)
“D705B42B-AB04-4C16-9887-922B8A083A8E” cannot be converted. Please install a newer version of iWork.
The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062).
What I noticed was that, despite following HT5096 correctly, I was not asked to enter Admin password at the beginning of the copy. I run in Admin all the time, and Disk Utility asked me for Admin password and Finder asked me for Admin password when I unchecked ignore ownership.
I'm VERY interested in why the copy process believes it's CONVERTING these iWork documents. And naturally I'm running what App Store tells me is the latest iWork.
Previously, I'd always just started another backup on new drives… I guess I'll be doing that in future too, as the well meaning HT wasted 12 hours. Sadly, I don't seem to be able to submit feedback on the HT, either.
I posted these comments to a newer discussion, more specific, but not much activity.

  • Coldfusion 11 cfheader or cfcontent 'failed to load PDF document'

I have a website that worked fine with Coldfusion 10 and now I have updated to Coldfusion 11 and this code doesn't work:
    <cfheader name="content-disposition" value="inline; filename=#vPublicFile#" />
    <cfcontent type="application/pdf" file="#DownloadFolder##qryDownload.fileNameOnserver#" deleteFile="no" />
If I type in the URL directly to the PDF file it loads fine, but if I try to get it through this code then I get the message "failed to load PDF document".  Even if I change the code to allow me to save the file, I get a saved file but it won't open in acrobat.
I know the code is working code, I tried it with Coldfusion 10 again just to make sure.  Something about 11 is stopping it from working.  Any ideas?

I think that this is a iis web connector issue.
One of the worst cf update bugs I have ran into.
I have a lot of binary data served up with cfcontent, I never include "index.cfm," and almost always have query string params.
    <cfheader name="Content-Length" value="#variables.FileSizeBytes#" />
<cfheader name="Content-Disposition" value="inline;filename=#variables.FileName#" /> (inline vs attachment makes no difference)
    <cfcontent type="application/pdf" file="#variables.File#" />
    /test/  - works
    /test/index.cfm  - works
    /test/index.cfm?getPDF=1  - works
    /test/?getPDF=1  - fails
Connection:close response header value there everytime it fails:
    Connection:close
    Content-Disposition:inline;filename=abcd.pdf
    Content-Length:31739
    Content-Type:application/pdf;charset=UTF-8
    Date:Wed, 12 Nov 2014 20:59:55 GMT
    Server:Microsoft-IIS/7.5
    Response headers when it works:
    Content-Disposition:inline;filename=abcd.pdf
    Content-Length:31739
    Content-Type:application/pdf;charset=UTF-8

  • Problems indexing 30M documents

Platform: Sun 4800, 12 CPU, Solaris 9, 48 Gb RAM
    Oracle Version: 10.1.04
    Database Character Set: UTF-8
    SGA MAX SIZE: 24 Gb
    hi,
Our database contains a mix of image files and plain text documents in 30 different languages (approximately 30 million rows). When we try to index the documents (using IGNORE in the format column to skip the rows containing images), the indexing either bombs out or hangs indefinitely.
When I first started working on the problem, there were rows in the ctx_user_index_errors table which didn't really give any good indication of what the problem was. I created a new table containing just these rows and was able to index them with no problems using the same set of preferences and the same indexing script. At that time, they were using just the BASIC_LEXER.
We created a MULTI_LEXER preference and added sub-lexers when lexers existed for the specified language, using the BASIC_LEXER as the default. When we tried to create the index using a parallel setting of 6, the indexing failed after 2 hours, and we got the following error codes: ORA-29855, ORA-20000, DRG-50853, DRG-50857, ORA-01002, and ORA-06512. We then tried to create the index without parallel slaves, and it failed after 3 hours with an end of file on communication channel error.
Thinking perhaps that it was the MULTI_LEXER that was causing the problem (because the data is converted to UTF-8 by an external program, and the character set and language ID is not always 100% accurate), we tried to create the index using just the BASIC_LEXER (knowing that we wouldn't get good query results on our CJK data). We set the parallel slaves to 6, and it ran for more than 24 hours, with each slave indexing about 4 million documents (according to the logs) before just hanging. The index state in ctx_user_indexes is POPULATE, and in user_indexes is INPROGRESS. There were three sessions active, 2 locked, and 1 blocking. When we were finally able to ctl-C out of the create index command, SQL*Plus core dumped. It takes hours to drop the index as well.
We're at a loss to figure out what to try next. This database has been offline for about a week now, and this is becoming critical. In my experience, once the index gets hung in POPULATE, there's no way to get it out other than dropping and recreating the index. I know that Text should be able to handle this volume of data, and the machine is certainly capable of handling the load. It could be that the MULTI_LEXER is choking on improperly identified languages, or that there are errors in the UTF-8 conversion, but it also has problems when we use BASIC_LEXER. It could be a problem indexing in parallel, but it also dies when we don't use parallel. We did get errors early on that the parallel query server died unexpectedly, but we increased the PARALLEL_EXECUTION_MESSAGE_SIZE to 65536, and that stopped the parallel errors (and got us to the point of failure quicker).
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Tarisa.

I'm working with the OP on this. Here is the table definition and
the index creation with all the multi_lexer prefs. The table
is hash partitioned, and we know the index cannot be
local because of this, so it is a global domain index.
Perhaps of interest, we have changed PARALLEL_EXECUTION_MESSAGE_SIZE
from the default up to 32K. This made a huge difference in indexing speed, but
so far has just helped us get to the point of failure faster.

  • Can I choose which iWork documents to store on iCloud?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can choose which iWork documents to store on iCloud? I have a lot of iWork files on my work Mac but I don't want them all on iCloud, just a couple that I'm currently working on, so that I can easily access and edit them when I'm at home or on the road.
    Thanks!

You are free, if you want to store your iWorks documents in the cloud or locally on your mac. The file choser dialog, when you are saving the document, will let you save it either in iCloud or in a folder on your mac. If you later change your mind, you can move the document between your local storage oand the cloud.

    Léonie

  • Failed to get the document information (LO 26315)

    Hi,
I have to create an Xcelsius dashboard where I use a Live Office connection based on a WebI-report. The WebI is created on top of a BEx Query.
I need to pass 12 parameters to the WebI-report in orde to get the correct data.
Everything works fine in design-time, but when I want to preview the dashboard, I get the error: Failed to get the document information (LO 26315).
After investigating the issue, I've noticed that everything works fine when the parameters I have to pass, are only created in the WebI-report. But in my case it is a BEx variable that causes the error.
There is no possible way that I can recreate the BEx variable in the Universe (There are restricted key figures, calculated key figures and cell restrictions in the BEx query).
My question: is there a way to pass a parameter from an Xcelsius dashboard to a WebI-report via a Live Office connection to a BEx variable?

    Fred,
on the SAP Notes Search page on sdn.sap.com, you can enter the note number in a text field at the right side of the page, just above the Search Option part.
Just enter Note 1357924 in that text field and press the blue icon with the arrows next to it. Thiw ill show the corresponding note.

Does anyone know how to download iWork documents from iCloud to Mac, most specifically from Pages 5.0 and Numbers 3.0. It seems that Apple have taken away the ability to do so, as in the past I believe there was a download button... All I am trying to do is download the document to attach and send via Gmail.
Extremely frustrating as I can't find any discussion surrounding this problem.

Have you tried right-clicking the document to get an option to download it.
