Spotlight hang on file and recreates it when deleted

After I upgraded from pb to macbook I've had a problem with spotlight reindexing all the time. After a while I found that spotlight hangs on the file Addressbook.data.
I have tried:
-spotless and delete the spotlight files, no luck
-onyx, no luck
-Yasu, no luck
-Delete the file and the dir, no luck
-change read/write properties on the file, no luck
-Drag the folder into privay, spotlight still reindexes the file and the folder dissapears from privacy
I'm going nuts here, can anyone help me?

Indeed, i was wondering where those files went. Previously i was using firefox v6, and when i stream media files like youtube or 4shared, I'm able to capture the files using download helper & bitcomet in form of flv or mp3 format respectively without having to manually download it.
So it means after streaming, and i'm able to save the media files without having to download it, it has already been stored somewhere right? Now, where could there be.
Unfortunately after upgrade to firefox v7 & the bitcomet to further version, I no longer able to capture the media files. I do not know whether it's about setting or that firefox (or bitcomet & download helper) do not allow direct saving from played streamed files
Imagine, it's quit depressing that u had to wait for the file to stream in order to view it, and then wait another for downloading in case u decide to like it. Whereas both the streamed file and the downloaded one is the same exact file with the same size & qualities.

If you use iTunes' default settings then when you add a file to iTunes it places a copy of the file in the iTunes media folder and it leaves the original in place. The exception is when you drag it to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder.
It does not convert the file. You can delete the original if you wish.

Parse exisitng xml file and recreate another xml file with different struct

Is it possible in java using dom parser to parse an exisiting xml file and recreate a new xml file from data obtained by parsing old xml file.
I checked on old forum threads and everywhere either parsing xml file has been explained or creating new xml file from scratch has been shown.
Any examples/guidance will be appreciated....

The general process is:

There are four general causes of this issue:
1. The computer's PRAM no longer contains a valid startup disk setting when there aren't any problems with the disk itself. This can be checked for by pressing the Option key and seeing if the drive appears.
2. The internal drive's directory structure has become damaged. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to perform the repair.
3. Critical system files have been deleted. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to reinstall them.

i have a BIG problem with Apple webdav.
All files or folders with fewer than 7 characters in filename disappear.
The problems is only between Mac Server and Mac Clients
and exists since OSX Server 1 (Server 10.7, 10.8, 10.9) on ALL Macs i know.
The problem persist ever and occurs in the following settings:
Mac Server (1.x, 2.x, 3.x) <> Mac Clients (10.7.x, 10.8.x, 10.9.x, 10.6 not tested)
The problem does NOT occur in the following settings:
Mac Server <> Windows Clients
Mac Server <> Linux Clients
Linux Server (my Webhoster) <> Mac Clients
Windows Server (my Webhoster) <> Mac Clients
So i think it is not a problem with server itselv or a single client only,
it is probaly a problem with the combination betwen mac servers and mac clients.
This is NOT a problem with MY MacServers/Clients only and not with only one Server.
It occurs in many different Places and many different Machines.
I have contact Apple Support more then tree times (always when i setup a new machine with server.app)
but she said they heard first time about that and she cannot reproduce that problem.
please, can somebody try it out?

Publishing external files and their links when all project is published on CD

I am restricted to publishing my whole project on CD. The project is divided up into lessons (individual projects), which I link to each lesson by creating a button to link to a URL/file and link to the html file. In select lessons, I have SWF's, PDF's that I link to a new window and not continue playing the project.
How do I set up a whole project to link to consecutive lessons as well as SWF's and PDF's that all have to reside on the CD?
I'm at a loss because my links end up being broken when I publish to a CD...

In a perfect world we would see that there would be no issues with linking. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world.
In Captivate 3, you could create a link to an asset such as a Microsoft Word document, Adobe PDF document, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or whatever. Once you did this, you simply ensured that the asset was in the same folder as the Captivate output linking to it. Most of the time things just worked. But sometimes we saw that instead of opening the asset, the browser opened and couldn't find it. The odd part of all this was that the address listed in the browser address bar was actually correct. And if you just clicked there and pressed Enter, voilà! The asset popped open.
In Captivate 3 you had a companion application called MenuBuilder. This application was intended to be used to link to assorted files. It was like a Captivate that was very limited in scope. It created what I refer to as "one slide wonders". I discovered this application could help when you needed to create a link that would work.
Do you have Captivate 3 handy? If so, you may be able to use the companion MenuBuilder application to overcome some limitations.
If you don't happen to have it handy, shoot me an E-Mail message at rstone75 (at) kc (dot) rr (dot) com and tell me the exact file names you need to link to. I'll be happy to create some small SWF files and send them back that will help with the linking.

Assign the name of a file and its extension when using DESTYPE=MAIL

Hello,
I've developed a report running Oracle Reports 10g that is being emailed to a user. I would like to specify the name of the file and it's extension that is attached. Are there variables or parameters in Oracle Reports that I can use to accomplish this?
It looks like by default that the file name is using the Name value found in the Property Inspector for the report. I have not been able to find a way to re-assign this value with a value from either the input or select values in the data model.
Will Oracle Reports 10g allow me to define the name of the file and the extension?
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the quick reply and information. I almost thought you had solved my problem until I found out that distribution and bursting do not support delimited and spreadsheet output. One of the two files I need to email has a desformat of SPREADSHEET.
Is there any other way to manipulate the file name and extension when using destype of MAIL?

HELP! Can not play quicktime files and no audio when it does!!!

i tried opening a .mov file and the message said "you are missing a component that is necessary to open...blah, blah." then it gave me the link to the quicktime site for the 3rd party filters...but which one do i need? there were several and i have no idea. plus, the audio thing is making me mad.
quicktime was pretty much didn't exist, so i popped in a itunes install disk and re-installed quicktime and that corrected my video problem. but now i'm having all this other stuff. and help will do. thank you.

I have never heard of an "iTunes" install disk. Where did you get this disk from?
The latest version of QuickTime is v7.1.3. Is this the version you currently have?

File and Account Management When Dual-Booting Mavericks and Earlier OS X

I want to install Mavericks into a separate partition on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro so that I can still boot into Snow Leopard to run some essential legacy software. My question is: how do I configure everything so that I only have to install each app once and so that user accounts access one set of files?
For example, I would like to be able to run, say, MS Office within either Mavericks or Snow Leopard, but I want to use the same software installation, the same preferences and other support files, and save to the same user file space.
Would someone be kind enough to point me to instructions for setting something like this up? I am an experienced computer user, and I am capable of following instructions. However, I am not a power user, nor do I know the ins and outs of navigating through the terminal.

Have you found a solution yet? I have exactly the same issue, and same questions. Being able to continue to use 10.6.8 for essential legacy material and a few old programs is a pre-condition of my upgrading to 10.9.
Installing 10.9 onto a new partition, or a new drive (as I shall do on my early 2008 Mac Pro) is mentioned as an option in virtually every article on the web on upgrading, but I can find nothing that explains precisely what you do about your user account.
I'm not so worried so much about the applications. I'll just migrate all that work in 10.9 across to the 10.9 drive, but not delete them from the 10.6.8. drive. I can see too much chance of OS conflicts if you tried to run them in both OS from a single location.
I initially thought it should be possible to access all my content through a single user account which is accessible whether I boot in 10.6.8 or 10.9. I can't find a convincing answer to whether that is possible or not anywhere, or instructions on how to do it if it is possible.
I wonder if I'm not being too complicated about this?. Once 10.9 is installed, I suspect I'll use that for everything except the programs and content that only work in 10.6.8. And it may be far better to have all the 10.6.8 stuff in a specific and separate user account in any case.
But I'd be interested in what you may have found out or decided to do!

i am trying to delete all files and folders from the trash folder by clicking empty securely, but its not deleteing the files anf folder. please suggest how to clean the trash folder by deleteing all the deleted files and folder.

Securely deleting items in Trash writes Zeros over the data so that it is completely eradicated.
This will take quit a long time depending on how much data you have in Trash.
Unless there is data that needs to be rendered unrecoverable in the Trash, you could choose to just delete the files and folders with out the secure option.
Once you have Emptied the Trash unsecurely you can always use disk utility to Securely Erase Free Space on the Drive.

File and image distortion when opened in Photoshop CS6

I recently upgraded to a new computer and I am experienceing strange black bands blotches when opening many of my old photoshop files or even when opening common files types (jpg/png). The problem doesnt occur with all file, some open just fine. The distortion only appears within photoshop, when I try to save the file for display everything looks fine as long as I don’t open the saved file in photoshop. I feel like I’m missing something basic but I’ve used PS for years and never encountered this.
All of my profile settings are exactly the same as they were on the old computer (basically default) so I don’t think there is a mismatch.
Using Adobe Creative Cloud if that helps.

Drivers are fully updated. You did lead me to a solution though once I considered the video card might be the problem. Apparently there is a bug between the current Catalyst driver and current version of Photoshop.
In case anyone else experiences the problem here is a workaround.
Go into Edit - Preferences - Performance, [Advanced Settings], and choose Drawing Mode: Basic.

How to avoid output file and error lines when condition does not match

A customer want to send purchase order files to several vendors and each vendor has their own requirement to content and file format. I have prepared scenarios for each vendor and a template is (conditionally) called when CardCode matches. It works fine, - PO file is generated when CardCode matches, but error lines are written to SAP B1 Control Center each time CardCode does not match the one defined in a scenario (100 or more times per day). Problem is that these error lines does not get automatic deleted. Conditional processing are made in this way:

Hi Steen,
using <b1im_skip> should be the right approach, if you're working with B1 OUTBOUND.
Following extract form the B1i help describes the usage to skip the outbound processing:
1.1 Skipping Outbound Processing
If you do not want to hand over the message to the receiver system, the scenario step can create a special tag that indicates to generic processing in the integration framework to skip the message processing.
Add the following to the final transformation atom (atom0):

If the integration framework skips the message, it puts the message log information to the Filtered section, if the message log is switched on. The result message contains the Message skipped by vBIU logic information.

Files and fonts disappear when I render

My motion 3 files look fine when I drop them into the FCP timeline but when I render, the fonts disappear and images are just black.
I had a previous problem (never solved) where the rendered file would be green but this would resolve itself when I output through compressor. However this problem remains.
I'm working in DV pal with my original video and the motion files. The motion files are originated in motion and dropped in the timeline.
I can't simply export the motion file as a DV pal file because the same problem occurs.

1. Try an alternative font, possible it is corrupt.
2. When you say you can not export the file it implies issue is with Motion and not FCP.
3. Trash motion Pref's
