Spotlight Ignores All Microsoft Documents in Mountain Lion

Having tired the the standard ways of deleting and reindexing Spotlight, I can't find a solution to fix this issue. Hoping "Linc" (who seems to be the number one sleuth these days) has something up his sleeve. The plugin is intact and I even reinstalled office to see if that helpded. I suspect there is some easy fix but i'm at a loss.
Thanks.

Too much information, LOL!
You need to update Microsoft Office to version 11.

hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

    Eli,
You can reset a Password (lost/forgotten) set on your Mac using 'Reset Password Utility' available with OS X Utilities tool. With OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Utilities tool can be generally found on a local hidden Recovery HD Partition if your Mac has one.
To check If your Mac has got a local hidden Recovery HD Partition, start your Mac holding COMMAND + R buttons. If you hold the keys pressed enough and there is a local Recovery HD Partition on your Mac, you will be presented with OS X Utilities window.
Click the 'Tool' menu item and choose 'Reset password'. Terminal window appears. Type 'resetpassword' into it and press 'Enter'. Reset Password window appears with User Account Names available on your Start-up Volume. Select the User Account Name and rest is simple to follow.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require any Authorization method such as administrative authentication to reset a password.
NOTE: If your Mac does not have a local hidden Recovery Partition on its system disk, you can create one using Disk Assistant application available from Apple. Search for the Disk Assistant in the support area.

  • Changing the CS3 AI default startup document in Mountain Lion??

Everything you read says that to change the default AI (CS3) startup document you use this path:
Users >  (User Name) > Library > Application Support >  Adobe > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > New Document Profiles > *.ai
The problem is, under Mountain Lion that path doesn't exist.  When I go to my user name, there is no "Library" folder at all.  Under "Shared" there is an AI Library folder, but it has nothing of any value in it.
My AI startup document (that I've been using for ages) is found here:
    HD > Applications > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > Plug-ins > filename.ai
However, if I navigate there and make changes, then quit Illustrator and re-launch it, nothing happens.  I'm using the same old defaults as before.
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here?  I know I need to upgrade to a later version of CS, but the prices have become so outrageous there's no way I can justify it as long as AI and PS are working.  You need a mortgage to buy new Adobe products these days.
    Tks
    Butch

The location of startup files has changed in version CS3.
The lirbary folder is hidden in Mac OS Lion and above, you can access it like this: http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/

  • Open AppleWorks6 Documents in Mountain Lion?

After installing 10.8.2. from 10.6.8. I can not open my AppleWorks6 Documents, but I need to! Can anybody give advice?

Bob: Here is a more complete set of options and workarounds that are available to you, including continuing to use AppleWorks 6 within Mountain Lion, from a post I assembled for similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3. Upgrade to an Intel compatible versions of your software, or find alternatives that will open your data files;
    4.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and continue to use AppleWorks 6:

Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

  • Numbers won't open documents in Mountain Lion.

I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini that shipped with Mountain Lion. I installed iWork from the original DVD and ran software updates to get the latest release. The apps launch, but will not open any of my iWork documents. I get the following errors in the  logs:
8/13/12 5:22:44.903 PM Numbers[6566]: Exception opening document: *** -[NSConcreteData initWithContentsOfFile:options:error:]: nil file argument
8/13/12 5:22:44.904 PM Numbers[6566]: Failed to open document, but no unrecoverable error
And I sometimes get the following error on screen "The document "document name" could not be opened." note "document name" is actually the name of the document I am trying to open.
I've uninstalled the application manually, and with AppZapper on 3 seperate occasions, making sure to clear out any preference files, empty the trash and reboot afterwards. Then reinstalled and ran updates after logging back in, but to no-avail. If I try to open the template viewer I get these errors in the log.

Pages and Keynote seem to have the same issue, I can't create new documents or open exitsing ones. I can keep uninstalling and reinstalling, but that doesn't seem to be the correct path. Anyone have any ideas?

I ended up finding a solution on my own. I re-uninstalled the iWork apps, deleting the apps, preferences and library\application support\iWork folder at the root of the Macintosh HD. After a restart, reinstalled the iWork software from my DVD. I then manually downloaded and installed the iWork 9.2 upgrade from Apple, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563 , instead of using the App Store software update method. Once completed, I ran permissions repair for good measure, though nothing was repaired. Launched and the apps are working as expected.

  • How do I set the default startup sequence for iWork documents under mountain lion?

I am frustrated when starting Pages under Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8.2). Instead of opening with the documents that I was working on when I closed the app, it opens with a standard "open" dialog box. I am forced to navigate through my folders and files or "create a new document" and then go to previously opened files. I would like Pages to open in the same status it was when I last used it, or if no files were open, to then automatically "create a new document" using the "Blank" template. In other words, how do I open Pages directly without the intervening dialog boxes?

Open General preferences and uncheck these boxes:

  • I lost all calendar events with mountain lion -- help!

I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and all looked fine until I opened Calendar -- no events!

    Jim,
I presume all of the calendars have a ✓ mark in the appropriate box?
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Then go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • Microsoft word in mountain lion x

i've just installed mountain lion and microsoft word, powerpoint and excel are not working anymore, why is that?

Your MS Office may be a Power PC App which is not compatible with ML.
Hold the Option Key and go to the Apple Menu/System Information/Software/Applications. Find the Applications then Kind. If it says Power PC you will need to upgrade.

  • Creating HTML document in Mountain Lion

I am trying to convert completely over to Mountain Lion. One important issue remaining is being able to create an HTML file from a document. I used Appleworks a lot because it allowed me to save anything I created as an HTML page. How can I do something similar in Mountain Lion? Pages won't
allow me to do it. I heard old version of Pages would do it, but that won't help.
I suppose I can buy some editor or converter, but seems such a waste to pay for something that an old version of Appleworks would do so easily and
perfectly for free. There must be a simple solution to create HTML from a word ( not Word ) document.

  • Is it at all possible to get mountain lion with an older MacBook?

I have a mid-2007 MacBook with upgraded RAM to 4GB and sufficient hard disk space.
The App store won't even let me download Mountain Lion (even though my computer meets the basic specs), and Lion isn't avail. either.  WHat other specs does my computer not meet to upgrade to Mountain Lion??   Will I forever be stuck with SnowLeopard?  It is really unfair that Apple won't even continue making software patches for people with older machines who can't get the latest OSx upgrade.  Not every Apple owner can afford to by a new notebook every 2 years.  Stop being so greedy Apple.....

There is a min requirement on the machine itself.
    See this link:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2012/02/16/mountain-lion-drops-support-for-several-older-mac -models/
If you really want to upgrade away from Snow Leopard, you can call Apple to buy the Lion usb.
In my opinion, the ONLY reason that I upgraded to Lion is the new File Vault (I have a Macbook 2008).  If you don't use file vault I don't see a reason to upgrade to Lion because you are not able to use most of the feature that it offers anyway, such Air Drop or Improved mouse touch detection.
I don't think for my Macbook 2008 ( or your Macbook 2007), Lion is that great of an upgrade : )

  • Why is my hard drive running all the time in Mountain Lion

My hard drive is powering up far more than it ever did with Lion, and this of course is killing battery power rapidly. Any one know why my hard drive runs so often on the new OS?
    Thanks!

Great. Thanks. What I mean is my hard drive actually revs up and makes noise far more often than it ever did on Lion. It is actively engaged in a higher usage than ever before and this of course makes the battery quickly expire.
Would anyone else like to offer advice? Thanks!

Anyone know answer me because in all programs of Creative Cloud installation stop on 49%, already passed 20 hours and the status is the same.

Redentor from your description it does not appear the installation process is beginning.  I would recommend you begin by reviewing the installation logs for error messages.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.
