Spotlight in 10.5.5 no longer indexing iPhoto 08 content

Problem: This used to work in OS X 10.4.11 and iPhoto 08: In iPhoto provide a comment for some photos. In Spotlight search for those photos by providing keywords from the comments. Spotlight finds the photos, and when I click on one of them iPhoto opens and the photo is selected.
Subsequently I did a clean install of OS X to 10.5.3, updated to 10.5.4, and installed iPhoto 08 from the iLife 08 CD/DVD, then placed a copy of my iPhoto Library in my Pictures folder. I was able to find commented photos using Spotlight.
After updating to 10.5.5 this no longer seems to work. That is, I can still find photos in Spotlight that I could find before updating, but new comments don't seem to be indexed. I have tried modifying the metadata of all 6,000 photos by assigning them a keyword, shutting down iPhoto, waiting, restarting iPhoto and removing the keyword. I have tried reindexing both the whole harddisk and just the Pictures folder (by placing them in the exclusion list, then removing them), but that only made the situation worse. Spotlight no longer finds any photos in iPhoto. I have even tried removing all /.Spotlight* files from the harddisk and reindexing using the Terminal. The commands are performed, but the result is the same. Mails and other documents that require import plugins are found in Spotlight, so this seems to be very specific to iPhoto (08).
Does anyone with the same setup (10.5.5 and iPhoto 08) have no/the same problem? Can anyone suggest a solution. I have reported this to Apple, but have received no reply.
Regards,
Richard

I don't have an immediate answer, but you can start with http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html and my mod to Finder's Find at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6725932 for what you can change so you can find stuff.

  • Mountain Lion Spotlight no longer indexes "codecs" for Apple Lossless files?

    Hi, I was recently trying to find some Apple Lossless files stored on my hard drive, and I tried searching using Spotlight's "codec" option (by typing "lossless" into the search field in the Finder). However, nothing came up. Upon further investigation (by looking at the info windows for various Apple Lossless files), it appears as though Mountain Lion no longer indexes the "codec" for Apple Lossless files, and therefore doesn't let you search by it. (Although I haven't tried this recently on at least Lion or Snow Leopard systems, I can verify that on OS X Leopard, which I still have running on an old machine, both the description "Apple Lossless" next to the codec field in the Info window came up, and it would also let you search by it.)
    I was just wondering if anyone else might have experienced this on their Mountain Lion systems? Thanks!

    I regret to inform this still has not been solved, though deleting the externalrecords helps purge those remnants away.

  • Spotlight no longer indexes remote server

    I have a small network of Mac, one of which acts as our "server" simply by sharing a raid disk set up. Spotlight on the other Macs has always been able to index the contents of this "server". Because the results from searches have lately been eratic, I wondered if Spotlight had stopped indexing the raid drive. It seemed it has.
    I tried to add the drive to Spotlight's Privacy area so I could remove it again, as mentioned in a number of threads. It will not allow me to add it. I get this "Privacy List Error The item couldn't be added or removed because of an unknown error."
    I get the same message no matter which Mac I try.
    I tried updating the software on the "server", checking the permissions in the Get Info area, turning every computer off and rebooting them all.
    I'm not sure what to do now.

  • Spotlight not indexing iPhoto Keywords - need help

    Spotlight appears to be working for everything else but will not index iPhoto (version 7.0.1) keywords. When I run in Terminal:

    Also, running mdimport -r "/System/Library/Spotlight/iPhoto.mdimporter" in Terminal does not return any results (or any errors).
    I have checked my library for any comments/descriptions with any line breaks in them and can not find any. I have deleted and rebuilt the spotlight indexes. I have added Pictures to the privacy section of spotlight then put it back. I have insured that iPhoto.mdimporter is the version off the the Leopard installation disc. I have checked that iPhoto.ipspot contains the correct path to AlbumData.xml.
    Any help or ideas on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

  • Find files in itunes folder no longer indexed by library

    Howdie y'all,
    well in the past I used to say Keep Files when deleting files from itunes and not
    move to recycle bin. I as well once by mistake restored a big chunk of recycle binned mp3s by accident.
    Now my itunes music folder is roughly 6 gigs larger than my itunes library and has
    a few hundreds files more than the library has songs. Seeing space on my laptop drive is getting low I would like to find the files that are in my itunes folder
    (I let itunes organize my files and have copy to itunes folder enabled as well)
    but no longer indexed by my itunes library.
    Anyone know of a way to do this easily?
    BTW I used a couple of duplicate finder programs and just half a dozen show up
    so I am pretty confident that it's not a duplicates issue but a no longer indexed
    issue!
    any help really greatly appreciated!
    remosito

    looks like itunes is not readding as duplicates anymore in 7.5.
    Just tried
    your method with a couple of artist subfolders and itunes must have
    realized they already existed in the library because nothing happened.
    Once my current itms purchased AAC->MP3 conversion is done I will try
    with the whole itunes folder!
    it would be sooo nice if it would be so simple!
    thanks again a ton
    remosito
    PS did itunes do duplicate stuff like that in earlier versions? I am pretty
    sure I read about this problem. And I think I ran into it a couple of years
    ago too when I misclicked the folder and picked the itunes folder instead of
    my EAC ripping folder...

  • TREX ABAP Client: How to index file content?

    Hello Colleagues,
    We have installed TREX search engine and writing own solution by using ABAP Client. Everything is ok except files content like XLS, DOC and so on. When we try to post binary content to the FM TREX_EXT_INDEX it is not processed by TREX and only attributes search is available. I think something wrong with data types.
    Test example:
      data lt_data type table of char100.
      data l_size type i.
      data lt_doc type trext_index_docs.
      data ls_doc type trexs_index_doc.
      call function 'GUI_UPLOAD'
        exporting
          filename   = 'D:test.xls'
          filetype   = 'BIN'
        importing
          filelength = l_size
        tables
          data_tab   = lt_data.
      ls_doc-doc_key = '00001'.
      ls_doc-doc_langu = 'EN'.
      ls_doc-doc_type = 'B'.
      ls_doc-mime_type = 'application/excel'.
      call function 'SCMS_BINARY_TO_STRING'
        exporting
          input_length = l_size
        importing
          text_buffer  = ls_doc-content
        tables
          binary_tab   = lt_data.
      append ls_doc to lt_doc.
      call function 'TREX_EXT_INDEX'
        exporting
          i_index_id            = me->index_id
          i_rfc_destination     = me->rfc_dest
          i_index_document_list = lt_doc.
    Document is indexed without content. Why?

    Hi Evgeni,
    I realise this is a little late, but just in case you are still interested - or anyone else out there is:
    Basically somewhere internally the FM 'TREX_EXT_INDEX' does the following with your ls_doc-content:
    l_xstring = p_content_in. "(p_content_in == ls_doc-content)
    If you look at the conversion rules in ABAP the xstring then expects the string to contain only the characters '0-9A-F'. Which your string does not have after calling the FM SCMS_BINARY_TO_STRING.
    Thus you have to format your ls_doc-content differently. Basically you need to move the hex characters in your xstring into 'real characters'. Which will expand the string massively.
    We solved the problem using the following Form:
    form conv_content using value(raw_content) type string
                   changing content            type string.
      data: lv_char   type c,
            lv_string type string.
      field-symbols:  type x.
      clear content. " init output.
      while raw_content is not initial.
        lv_char = raw_content(1).
        assign lv_char to  casting.
        lv_string = .
        concatenate content lv_string into content in character mode respecting blanks.
        shift raw_content left.
      endwhile.
    endform.
    Not exactly efficient, but you can call it just as you would call the FM SCMS_BINARY_TO_STRING (except you don't need the filesize). Then the TREX will index your MS-Office documents as long as they are not of type Office 2007 or newer. In that case there is another bug, where the mime_type you pass in the interface is only 50 Chars long - which is too short to fit the full docx mime type for example.

    Robin

  • Best way to index portal content

    Hi all,
    I am searching for a nice way to index the content of the portal.
    Using the standard functionality (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/46/9d1405fa743ef0e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm) does not lead to sufficient results, since all roles which are located in PCD are indexed and are found by the enduser.
    This could lead to the situation that the enduser might open a page which leads to an error or a blank page.
    The other possibility is to use the PCD roles search (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/b2/d59a4271c80a31e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm). This only offers results of roles which are assigned to the user.
    However, content of iViews (e.g. URL iViews) are not indexed and so the user can only search for the ID / description of the page (which is okay, but content search is also important).
    Is there no other possibility to search for portal content?
    Thanks for any hints...
    Best Regards
    Philipp Kölsch

    Hi,
    it seems that the current ways of indexing portal content are not really sufficient... I hope that there are better solutions in the future...

  • How do I re-download my iphoto library if I can no longer find iphoto on my desktop or in my finder without loosing all of my photos?

    How do I re-download my iphoto library if I can no longer find iphoto on my desktop or in my finder without loosing all of my photos?

    How did you install it in the first place? If it came with your Mac, and the Mac didn't come with Lion installed, then reinstall iLife from the Applications disc that was in the box. If you no longer have that disc, you'll have to order a replacement from Apple customer service. Either that, or restore the iPhoto application from your backups.
    If you got iPhoto from the App Store, you can download it again by launching the App Store application.

    I have a mac pro which I recently made to share with my mac desktop.  iphoto was updated on the mac pro from 8.2.1 and I can no longer open iphoto.  I get an error message You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.  The only option is for me to quit.  I have tried to restore with no luck.  I tried reinstalling using my Application CD.  Help?????

    when you opened the shared library with the newer version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11) you were given a warning that your library would be converted and could not be used by older versions - you clicked ok to go ahead - there is no updo available - either upgrade to iphoto '11 of the MBP or load your backup of the iPhoto '09 library on it - older versiopns of i{Photo can not read newer libraries

    As of yesterday afternoon, I can no longer view the content of email on my iPhone. I can view it on my iPad and my iMac. When I open the email, there's no content. • I can no longer open iphoto. It says it is damaged. How do i reinstall iphoto?

    I can no longer open iphoto. It says it is damaged. How do I reinstall iphoto?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
    2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
    A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
    If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
    If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
    If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • After re-install I no longer have iPhoto

    I recently had to carry out a complete erase and install on my G4 12inch PowerBook.
    (See this thread -
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=616332&tstart=0)
    Instead of using the discs that came with my PB I used the newer Tiger OS X DVD that I bought last year. I then updated to OS X 10.4.8 and re-installed my programmes. Everything worked beautifully and I was well pleased!
    It was only today when I went to upload some images that I realised I no longer have iPhoto installed on the PB.
    Can someone please tell me how I can get iPhoto (without buying the iLife CD)? I still have the original Install disks that came with my PB, but don't know if I can simply 'extract' the iPhoto app and install it. I don't want to cause any problems by trying to install an app. from an 'earlier' version of the OS - or will this not cause any grief?
    Help please!

    Thanks for the suggestion. I decided to take the time consuming and irritating route of erasing my new installation of Tiger, re-installing the original Panther OS then doing an archive and install of Tiger. I now have 10.4.8 up and running AND I've recovered iPhoto. As they say, we learn from our mistakes!
    What the ****.... it's only time and inconvenience

    My iPad two was dropped - not hard only from a low table to the floor and it was in a leather case - now I can no longer see the contents on the iPad. I can see the contents in Itune but no display on my pad. Please help!

    Try resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete the "Slide to Unlock" screen will display.

  • Can no longer open iPhoto

    G'morning, all,
    I've just installed iLife and updated all related applications. While I can access iPhoto via the media tool on iWeb, I can no longer open iPhoto by itself. I get a message that I should upgrade iPhoto (despite the fact that I have the most recent version) and that I should go to the iPhoto file menu >Library, and then ensure that I have read and write permissions. I have done all those things and I still can't access iPhoto.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks,

    This sounds like a permissions issue. Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
    And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder (at Home/Pictures) using the settings found here:
