Spotlight / Language Input Menu Keyboard Shortcuts

In the Mouse & Keyboard Preference Pane, I disable the keyboard shortcuts for the Language Input Menu.
In addition, I try to change the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight from CMD-Space to Option-Space.
The only problem is that these prefrences reset themselves upon logout.
Is there any way to fix this, or can someone point me to the .plist file for keyboard shortcuts?
Thanks in advance.

can someone explain in more detail on how to change the keyboard shortcut? on my old imac, i was able to switch languages by using cmd-spacebar.. but on my macbook, it seems to direct to another command.
how do i change that so i have a hotkey on my keyboard to change languages?? (i'm very tech. challenged, so baby steps would be goog >_<!!) thanks for the help!

  • Input Menu Keyboard Shortcuts

I have "Chinese - Traditional" added to my Language & Text preferences, and have the choices made available from the menu bar. Prior to Snow Leopard, the shortcut to Show Punctuation for "Chinese - Traditional" input was "Alt–Shift–S". However, in the recent upgrade, Snow Leopard standardise the shortcut for showing punctuation to "Alt–Shift–B". Using the former shortcut will result in entering the Latin I with acute (Í).
Having to enter Chinese characters most of the time, I am quite used to the former shortcut combination. I understand that there is always a need to get used to new ways of working, but, is there a way to change the default keyboard shortcut in this case? (I couldn't find the relevant entries in the Keyboard Shortcuts menu.)

  • Spotlight menu keyboard shortcut stops working

Frequently, when I use the Spotlight menu keyboard shortcut to activate the Spotlight icon in the upper right corner of the screen, all I get is a highlight on the icon, but Spotlight itself doesn't open. So I can't start the search at all. However, the Spotlight window keyboard shortcut does work, and I can use Spotlight with no problems there. What is going on? The only way I can reactivate the simpler Spotlight menu version is by logging out of my account, then logging back in. It will work...but only for a while, then fail again, till I log out and log back in. Strange and frustrating.

    Rick,
Find and delete the following files, then restart:
    Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder (com.apple.systemuiserver.plist)
Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost Folder (com.apple.systemuiserver.000aXXXXadXX.plist) (X's will be numbers)
    Let us know what happens.

  • Language Input Menu

I have selected two languages in International Preferences, set up commad-spacebar keyboard shortcut, and made english the top language, yet I constantly find that the language had changed in the input menu without me selecting the change.
I could only see it happening once, upon opening the Helper application. all other times I was not aware when it actually changed, only once already changed.
What is happening and how can I set it to change only with keyboard shortcut or electing input menu?
    PBG412 Mac OS X (10.2.x) ext. HD FW180GB

Thank you so much for responding. I have opened everything I see on the desktop. Including the small icons near the bottom and top. I have done a search on the words you have provided. I have yet to find "sytemeinstellungen". I have located some "....einstellung" places but they are for the printer, internet, font settings etc. I did find "tastatureinstellungen" and a list of countries came up with flag icons. USA was not highlighted so I selected England. That selection included the USA also. I reset the mac and everything is the same. I think it has to do with the keyboard. Not sure what that changed. I believe I am using OS 8.6. Any other thoughts or suggestions.

  • Contextual menu keyboard shortcut

I've searched around and can't find an answer to this one.
What's the keyboard shortcut to access the contextual menu?
For example, when I select a text layer and press T, how can I change the font, size, anti-aliasing, etc. without using the mouse?

    Ryan,
I know a shortcut trick for getting access to the font family, font style, font size, and anti-aliasing input boxes while the text tool is selected.
Type your text; press the numeric keyboard enter key; press the standard key board enter key. This will place focus on the font family input box. Use arrow keys or start typing desired font family name. Press Tab key to jump forward one field...Shift Tab will jump back one field.
Don't hit enter while in these fields as you'll lose focus. If you do, you'll need to press the numeric keyboard enter key again.
When you are finished, press Control T to place focus back on the text tool. You'll need to do this to get commit/cancel type option.
For more options, you would need to use the Character palette. If you click in one of the Character palette fields, you can use the same shortcuts to cycle through the palette.
Ed gave you the shortcut to navigate the Menu bar with the type tool selected. Look at the word File in the menu bar when you hit Shift F10. Use the Underlined letters to navigate. So, Shift F10<W<C<C Enter will open the character palette.
Easier still, make a keyboard shortcut to call up the character palette.

  • No chinese language input in keyboard

i was playing with my brother's ipad trying to get the hang of it before i buy myself one. i noticed on the keyboard that there is no chinese language input like that in the iphone.
is there really one or do i have to download a software or whatever.
by the way, my bro bought in the states, and we are located in asia.
wondering if it will be included in the asian release.

i noticed on the keyboard that there is no chinese language input like that in the iphone.
Do you really not see the option for Simplified Chinese? If not, something is wrong with your system.
The iPad does not yet have input for Traditional Chinese. It is one of the 2 dozen keyboards which are in the iPhone but not yet ported to the iPad. Presumably Apple will add it in the future via a software update, but nobody can tell you when. There is no way to add it yourself.
If you are talking about Traditional Chinese, tell Apple you want it here:

  • Menu Keyboard Shortcut

Hi. I'm just starting with an iMac and having some trouble figuring out how to use the keyboard shortcut for the menu.
When I hit CTRL + F2, nothing seems to happen (from what I can tell) that would allow me to select one of the menu items. I checked the keyboard preferences and this shortcut is enabled. What should I do after hitting CTRL + F2?
    Thanks!

    bobfet1 wrote:
Thanks! I was able to get it to work by pressing FN + CTRL + F2. It's weird that the keyboard shortcut settings does not display the FN key as something to press - it looks the same as the other shortcuts that don't need it.
as i said, this depends on how your F-keys are set up. go to system preferences->keyboard->keyboard and check the box to use F-keys as standard keys. then you won't need to fn and control+F2 will work. but on the other hand this will mean that to get the hardware preset functions of the F-keys you'll need to press fn+F-key.

  • Apple Menu Keyboard Shortcut

Is there a way to change the keyboard shortcut for opening the apple menu? Currently I have to press the CTRL-FN-F2 keys then use the down arrow key to view the list. I'd like to easily use 2 keys with 1 hand instead of the current 3.
    Thanks

While I'm not exactly sure how you would get that in one shortcut, I can say this. If you are looking for shortcuts you need, nay MUST, check out Quicksilver. I got seriously addicted to this program, such that it's hard for me to use a computer with out it.

  • How can I access alt-menu keyboard shortcuts in fullscreen?

When Firefox is not in fullscreen mode, I can access all the functions of the menu bar by pressing the appropriate alt-letter keyboard shortcut (alt-f for file menu, alt-e for edit, etc).
This seems to be disabled in fullscreen mode. So I have to get out of fullscreen, pull down the menu, and then go back to fullscreen. How can I use keyboard shortcuts to access the menu while in fullscreen mode?

    <blockquote>Did you rename the userChrome-example.css to userChrome.css? </blockquote>
    Yup.
<blockquote>What is the file path of the userChrome.css file?</blockquote>
    /usr/lib/firefox/chrome
<blockquote>Do you get the Menu bar if you hover the mouse to the top in full screen mode (F11) with the code in userChrome.css? </blockquote>
I get the tabs and the navigation toolbar, but no menu bar.
<blockquote>Does other code in that file work?</blockquote>
Oops, didn't try that. I'll give it a whirl.
Aaaaaand this is where I confess that this is a dual boot system, and I got the userChrome-example.css from the Win7 side because there was no userChrome.css file on my system. I got it from here:
    /host/users/(me)/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/(random alphanumeric).default/chrome

  • Is it possible to switch between dictation languages with a keyboard shortcut

On my MacBook Pro I can use the dictation feature to dictate in either English or Japanese, and it seems to work pretty well.
However, if I want to switch between dictation languages, I have to go into settings and choose the installed language.
With Siri on my iPhone 5, if I switch the keyboard between languages then Siri dictation also switches to that language. That doesn't seem to happen in OS X.
Is there some keyboard shortcut I can use to switch between dictation languages to save time? When dictating in Japanese it is very common to also enter an English word here and there.
    Thanks,

I wonder if apple support would even know about the shortcut you are using, since it's not mentioned in

Sometimes their support documents are a bit outdated. I have just recently noticed that feature. But surely they must know about it if they created it.
Anyway, the problem isn't with the shortcut. That works fine. The problem was that mysteriously "enhanced dictation" - which lets you dictate even when not connected to the Internet via downloaded dictionaries, and also lets you type continuously and show the intermediate results (like Google Voice) - was not working. Yet if I turned off enhanced dictation - which DOES require an Internet connection, like with Siri dictation, was working.
I can imagine scenarios where the non-enhanced dictation may temporarily not work because of network or Apple server problems. What I couldn't understand was why the network-based dictation was  working, while the local dictation wasn't.
But I can't replicate it now anyway. Currently both are working.

  • Language input switching shortcut doesn't work

Hi! I always use command-space to switch between English and Chinese (Cangjie) input (having disabled this shortcut for Spotlight), but all of a sudden it stops working. I know the command key works and the space bar works, but when I press command-space it does nothing. I have to click on the little language flag to switch language. I also tried restarting the mini.
There is also something weird about the Chinese inputting now but I'll ask that in another post.
    Thanks!

I've been having a similar problem, but a little more elaborate.
It started with my Finder switching on its own from US (my default) keyboard input to Hebrew. I would just switch back using the shortcut (command+space bar), a shortcut I have been using for years without problems. Now the shortcut is giving me problems, and sometimes doesn't work, as steveappleotp describes.
While in Safari, the shortcut failed to work. I checked my System Preferences for language input and nothing had changed. When I used the mouse to open the language input menu, 3 of the 6 languages were grayed out. But this doesn't happen consistently. All of a sudden everything is okay and I don't know how to recreate the problem.
Thought I would post this here as it's recent and related, but maybe I should start another thread.
    Thanks.

  • How to change the flag image in language input in menu bar?

I have two languages that I have selected for regular use in my language input menu (on the right-hand side of the menu bar), and I would like to change the Spanish input flag from the Spain national flag to an Argentina flag, just for aesthetics. I figured it'd kind of be like changing the image of how the HDD looks like on the GUI (control-click, get info, copy and paste image), but I'm not sure where to start or if it's even possible. Anyone have any clues or experience with this? I may just have to make do with keeping the Spanish flag up there but just for curiosity's sake I want to know if it can be done.

There is no problem doing this if you are willing to create and install a custom keyboard layout.  You can find the tool and a manual at

  • Keyboard shortcut Command-~ DOES NOT WORK in/on some apps/machines

It seems that in Mac OS 10.6.2 the keyboard shortcut "Command-~" ( a.k.a.
"⌘-~" or "Command-tilde") is quite fickle. It is used in most apps to
switch between open windows within an application. It was available in OS
10.5 in Safari, Microsoft Office (including Entourage), and most other apps
with the capacity to open multiple windows simultaneously. But in OS 10.6.2
this shortcut is available in Safari on my 2.16 GHz Core2Duo 20" iMac but
NOT on my 2.4 GHz Core2Duo Unibody 13" MacBook; it's available in Entourage
on my MacBook but NOT on my iMac. So it's available on some apps and some
machines but not on others, there's no rhyme or reason to it, and it's not
consistent between like machines and apps, which makes me think that there's
a system-wide preference or command that could turn this on and off. I
thought perhaps it was controlled by a preference in certain apps, but I
have found no such prefs. Is there a way to control this - in other words,
to make it available where it currently is not? Or is there a command to
make it universally available on any 10.6 machine (my preferred solution)?
    Thanks for any help offered.

Not a reply to this specific question, just a quasi-relevant comment that might help some folks.
In Leopard, and with (for example) English and Russian chosen in System Prefs under "Language" and the keyboard shortcut set to command+space, I would always see the flag change in the menu bar as soon as command+space were chosen. Now, under Snow Leopard, hitting command+space seems not to make the change. But it does make the change, you just need to take your fingers off the keys first, then the flag will change.

  • How do i create keyboard shortcuts for the different markup colours?

I want to be able to quickly highlight with different colours in the preview app.

You didn't read my post. You merely read your preconceived notion of what I posted.
If you want to pop up menus and type letters, turn on the functions to activate the menus in the Keyboard & Text Input of Keyboard Shortcuts.
You can then activate the menus, type letters of the menu to select the one you want, then type letters for the menu items to select those. Once selected, arrow down or space to drop the menu or activate a hierarchical submenu.
These items allow you to activate the various menus, Dock, toolbars, etc.
They are default to Function keys (in order), but I changed mine to things that make sense.

  • How can I set up a keyboard shortcut for 'Remove Tween' in Flash Pro CC 2014?

I'm trying to set this up, as I have in previous versions of Flash, but the 'Remove Tween' command (among other commands) is not available in the Keyboard Shortcut window.
Is there some other way to add this shortcut?
    Thanks,
    George

I don't think this had a keyboard shortcut even before (checked in CS6). There's an alternative though.
    1. Create a JSFL file with following code and save it in the commands folder as 'Remove Tween'.
         fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().setFrameProperty('tweenType', 'none');
    2. Now goto Edit Menu > Keyboard Shortcuts..
    3. Search for 'Remove Tween' and assign a keyboard shortcut to it.
Now everytime you press the assigned key - jsfl script is executed which essentially removes the tween from selected frame. (works for Classic and Shape tween but not Motion Tweens)
