Spotlight limitation, workaround?

I like to archive email by dragging messages out of OS X Mail, and into folders on my hard drive. Oddly, this results in their content no longer being readable by Spotlight. The file name, which is the email’s “subject:” can still be indexed.
Does anyone know of a way to get spotlight to see the content of these messages, outside of Mail? I know that I could save/export messages as RTFs or PDFs etc, but I like to keep email intact and in its native format. Thank you.

The workaround is: If you need approval for document created via DI API, you must program it to save the document as draft, and send the notification to the users using MessagesService object or Messages object (you can choose, there are some differences, but the result is the same).
Now when a document in draft state, and the user will issue it from draft to normal document, the system will join into the approval procedure.

why is the iphone search function spotlight limited in time? I can only find entries that are less than a year old,but I would like to search older entries in my calender, which goes back to 2002. Anyone has a solution for this?

Are you sure that your calendar still contains entries from that long ago? Generally when you sync the iPhone through iTunes, it will only sync entries from a specific time frame. It may be there older entries have been archived and do not exist on the iPhone anymore. Other than that, I don't see any setting that allows modification to the time frame for Spotlight search.

2k classpath limitation workaround not working

I am aware of the 2k limitation in installing weblogic as win2k service. The suggested
workaround for that as per the documentation is to provide a '@filename' paramater.
But looks like it is not picking up the ''myclasspath.txt' This file is in the
%WL_HOME%/server/bin directory.

Using Photoshop CS2, I created a document that is 217 pixels wide, 350 pixels high, 8 bit RGB, with exactly 217 layers.
I can navigate up and down with one layer visible using Alt ] and Alt [, no problem.
In this case, Photoshop is set to use 100% of available memory on a 64 bit system, which means it gets 2786 MB:

Another DI API Limitation workaround needed

Hi,
We have an issue with transfering an Order Document into SBO using DI when Printing Layout are configured to be "fired"
When entering a document using the graphical user interface, the pringint is launched correctly.
When sending a document to SBO thru the DI API, no printing job is triggerred.
I suppose that it is a DI API limitation...
Am I right?
If so, what is the best workaround to get these document printed...automatically if possible!

Basically this is not a limitation. DI API is a data interface api which used for data manipulation, and printing is belongs to application, not the SDK. The printing function is missing from SDK.
By the way, from SDK the printing is not supported. What you can do:
1. Issue the invoice via DI API,
2. Open the Document Printing wizard
3. run the printing of Invoices marked ony not printed (you will print out the invoices which are not printed)
This is the suggested workaround for huge number of invoices to be printed. If you issue 1-2 invoices per day by DI API, you can - issue the invoice via DI API, and use the GetNewObjectKey method to receive the docentry value
- open the invoice the SAP B1client
- send the print event by Activating the print menu.
- please note: here you must enter the number of copes by hand.

Sp_addlinkedsrvlogin AD group limitation (workaround? anyone?)

Hello. I have looked all over boards and can't seem to find any elegant (or even hacky) workaround for this situation, hoping some of you geniuses can help. SQL Server 2008
R2 Enterprise.
We have a linked server to a DB2 server. The current linked server uses an DB2 (Unix) ID/PWD (batchID/service account) to the linked server. We don't have Kerberos and the mixed bag of Windows/Unix would sort of disallow it anyway. The SQL server (while mixed
authentication mode) uses almost exclusively Windows Authentication and we are very good about using AD groups for everything, not INDIVIDUAL windows/sql logins (as part of our corporate security).
The data on the DB2 server will soon have masked confidential fields for individual users but not the batch IDs. To ensure that anyone connecting to our SQL server can't just pull up the the unmasked data, we thought we would create another linked server an
limit it to a specific Windows group - lets call it 'DOMAIN\DBA', that requires unmasked data for processing. Either that or -better- put the 'DOMAIN\DBA' group to the existing linked server mapping to an "unmasked" account on the DB2 side. This
group has sysadmin and consists of a windows service account and prod support staff who have to manually run processes). But it is IMPOSSIBLE to set Windows Group LOGIN permissions on a linked server login. The sp_addlinkedsrvlogin specifically excludes server_principals
type 'G'. Microsoft will not say why, except because they designed this for all linked servers to also be Windows SQL server - but there you go.
Does anyone know a way to do this without having to add the individual users from the 'DOMAIN\DBA' group to individual logins on the server? That just seems like a maintenance nightmare. This affects about 20 SQL servers in our organization. PLEASE? Anyone?

Is Spotlight limited to Apple apps in 3.0?

Do my eyes deceive me, or does 3.0 search ONLY Apple programs??
The Apple site says: "Spotlight searches all of your contacts, email, calendars, and notes, as well as everything in your iPod."
What do they mean by "everything in your iPod", if not other apps?
I hope I've just missed some search setting, as I was hoping 3.0 would bring the iPhone closer to the capabilities of my Palm Pilot from a decade back.

ipod refers only to the app "ipod" on ur iphone so it means it searchs all ur notes, contacts, emails, calendars, and any music albums, or videos etc, in your ipod app not ur entire phone... so ya it only works for original apple apps

OfficeJet 4500 G510n-z WiFi Passphrase limitations/workaround needed

First off, I'm an advanced user, please don't ask me if I've turned it off and back on ;-)
My issue is that I can't enter my current WiFi passphrase since the symbol doesn't appear on the list when pressing *. The character I'm trying to enter is a less than symbol "<". This printer has been a total nightmare since day one and I refuse to change my passphrase to something less secure just to accomodate this thing's poor design, I would rather toss it in the garbage and buy an Epson printer... Can anyone tell me if there is an alternative way to enter the passphrase, such as hooking the printer up via USB?

There are a couple of options:
1. In the HP folder, run the "Printer setup and software" program to have your computer help the installation. You will have to connect a USB cable temporarily during the process so the computer can communicate the network settings to the printer. Make sure to NOT plug in the USB cable before the software asks.
2. On the front of the printer, restore the network defaults. On your computer connect to the ad hoc network that begins with "hp". Get the printer IP address from the front of the printer and type it into a browser. Go to the network tab and run the "Wireless Setup Wizard" there.

How do I move the spotlight search window out of the freaking way in Yosemite??????????

The spotlight search window is Yosemite is obtrusive. How can I get the old spotlight behavior back in Yosemite? Spotlight windows used to be on the side and out of the way. Now spotlight is completely worthless, if it is going block what I am working on. I don't need a luanchpad app. OS X is a multitask environment and spotlight kills the ability to multitask. My desktop and laptop computers are not tablets, so why is spotlight limiting their abilities.

There are lots of useful things you can do with spotlight. My most common uses are: (a) an app launcher, and (b) a quick calculator, (c) a search tool. Each of you probably have others.
When I'm using it as an app launcher, the pop-up window in the middle of the screen is not an issue. I type a few keys and it's gone. For example, "CMD-Spacebar S A Return" launches safari.
When I'm using it as a calculator the pop-up window is often annoying because it obscures the data I want to do calculations on. I have to remember all the numbers I want to type in. Could I just use the calculator app? Of course, but this wasn't an issue previously.
When I'm using it as a search tool the pop-up window is usually not a problem but sometimes obscures information I want to see
Bottom line based on my use cases is that I prefer the pop-up out of the way in the corner.

I hate Spotlight

Whatever is it about?? The minute I start typing it starts searching, so it's looking for just a couple of characters. I'm usually searching BIG servers, which could take 5-10 minutes with the old Sherlock, but Spotlight just can't do it at all. And all this find content stuff - I am looking for files or folders, whyever does it default to this?
Today I tried to search my computer for 'itunes' (I wanted to check whether I had downloaded Apple's sample scripts before). Everything locked up. When I restarted and tried again it found every blessed music track I have. Whyever would I want that?
Sometimes I look back very fondly at OS9....

If you're usually searching BIG servers, you'd probably be better served by using the Cmd-F search window (instead of the menubar icon) and selecting the specific locations that you want to search, excluding servers that you're not intersted in.
As for improving performance, there are a couple of things you can do:
1. Use EasyFind (available on http://www.versiontracker.com) - I use it occasionally, since it's slower, to get around Spotlight limitations, others swear by it.
2. Change the Cmd-F window defaults file
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/default_smart.plist
to show name contains and List View (reportedly less beachballing)
3. If it starts searching as soon as you start typing, keep typing. Even if not displayed, the keyboard buffer should fill in your search term and then narrow the results in a single step. Alternatively, you can copy/paste your search term into the search field.
4. Search for something more specific.. Rather than search for iTunes, which should return all files associated with iTunes, search for the extension, or use the Kind:Others... criteria in Cmd-F to search for a specific file type.

Is there an "Edit Object Tool" in Acrobat 11?

Is there an "Edit Object Tool" in Acrobat 11 that is comparable to the Edit Object Tool in Acrobat 10 and earlier versions? Has it been discontinued, or split into 2 loosely connected tools, the new Edit Text and Images Tool?
I love the new Edit Text Tool in Acrobat 11, but the old Edit Object Tool in Acrobat 10 and earlier versions was great when I wanted to resize a block of objects. The old Edit Object Tool would resize both text and graphic objects, but not everything like form fields, although there are limited workarounds like printing the file to pdf to flatten it and then resizing, but doing so will discard the form fields.
When using the old Edit Object Tool to resize a group of objects that contain text, it will scale the text in proportion to everything else in the selection. The new Edit Text and Images Tool in Acrobat 11 does not resize or scale the text. It does change the size of the text containers, but the text does not resize.
There are situations where it is valuable to resize a group of objects that contain both text and images, but I can't get the new tool to do it, or I'm not operating the tool correctly. Is this functionality gone in version 11, or am I doing something wrong or using the wrong tool?
I initially upgraded both of my laptop workstations from Acrobat 10 to 11, but have now gone back to running Acrobat 10 on one machine and Acrobat 11 on the other so I can realize the great new functionality of the new Acrobat 11 Text Tools without losing the valuable functionality of the Edit Object Tool in earlier versions.

Pdf links don't work for imported text

Hi.
I imported some common sections located in their own frame file into three different books.
I tried this by reference first because I want to make changes only once, to the actual file.
When I make a pdf, the toc links to the imported reference text don't work. Nor do links within the text to other locations in the text.
When I import by text, the links work. But import by text defeats the purpose of having one source for multiple books.
I appreciate any help on this.

Unfortunately, cross-references in FM files imported by reference into other FM files ("text insets") are not converted to PDF links -- this applies to all versions of FrameMaker and Acrobat.
Limited workarounds are to (1) convert the text insets to regular text (on a temporary copy that is discarded after the PS/PDF is created; this can be automated using FrameScript) or (2) use hypertext links to create the PDF links (these are converted properly even when in a text inset).

NHL gamecenter streaming issues

I bought a new ATV2 last week and updated to the latest sotware. The main selling point for me was NHL Gamecenter live as I had grown tired of watching games on my laptop. Gamecenter live however is unbearable to watch. It stops to buffer every 3-5 minutes and often will buffer for 5+ minutes just to go another 2 minutes. I can use Gamecenter on my laptop with no issues and it never needs to stop for buffering.
I thought it was my ATV2 setup but Itunes and Netflix movies stream with a breeze, never a hang up and a very short buffering time to get started. I have a 20MB download internet connection and I've never had buffering issues when using NHL Gamecenter on my Laptop. Another annoying thing it does is sometimes when watching a game that the NHL has put in their own "commercials" during time outs, it will often go back to the NHL game menu when the commercial break is over instead of going back to the game.
Anyone else having this issue with NHL Gamecenter? Maybe its an NHL issue since everything else on my Apple TV streams perfectly. I've had to go back to watching games on my Laptop because of it.

Haven't had this hold true for me. I usually watch games after they are over--not live. Some will stream this way, others will not--most often the team I really WANT to watch will not! I was watching one game on the computer the other night and decided to try the ATV2 again after the first period and found it WAS finally available. The weird thing was that the steam was slightly different than the stream I was watching o the computer. The computer stream included all of the commercial breaks and period intermissions, the ATV2 stream did not--it just went immediately to the next action or next period. Are they somehow formatting a special feed for ATV2? Does this take time and is that why some of the games are not available for awhile after the live game is over? I'm grasping at straws here to understand how I can best use this device which is so far quite frustrating and mysterious.....

How to really "share" library, not just stream?

My husband and I each have a macbook. I have 99% of the music on my computer and "share" my library with him. In iPhoto I do the same thing so he can drag the photos he wants onto his will the rest stay on my computer. He is unable to drag music onto his hard drive like photos in iPhoto. I know that music is different with DRM and all but both our computers are authorized and he'd like an easy way to pull some music onto his computer and thus also sync with his iPhone etc. Is there a workaround here or something else I'm missing? I don't see how this can really be called "Shared". It should be called "Streamed". Two people married to each other are not going to buy a song twice so why do they make it so hard?

I just ran into the same problem. I want to store the files on my computer and let my wife use them on hers, for slideshows in iPhoto, etc. What iTunes calls "Sharing" is not that, it is "streaming", as you pointed out.
I found a limited workaround for now: Use file sharing.
• In her iTunes preferences, under Advanced, I deselected "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library".
• Then I logged on to my computer with the Finder using file sharing.
• Then I navigated to my computer's iTunes Music folder (typically in the user's home folder inside Music:iTunes), and dragged and dropped it onto the iTunes window on her computer. This caused her computer to import all of my iTunes files but instead of copying them, reference them to my computer's hard drive.
As a test, I quit iTunes on her computer and disconnected from my computer and relaunched iTunes. When I double-clicked a song to play it, her computer automatically logged into my computer to access the song. She has to have the password for my computer remembered in her keychain to allow the auto login to work.
Disadvantages:
• To access songs from e.g. iPhoto, iTunes must be launched first and something played, to make iTunes automatically log in to my computer. Alternately, I could set her computer up to mount my computer's drive at startup.
• My computer must be awake any time she wants to use iTunes.
• She can't use my playlists.
• It can take a very long time for her iTunes to process my iTunes Music folder even though it isn't copying all of the songs. It goes looking for album artwork and adjusts the song gaps all over again even though that info exists on my computer.
Advantage:
• She has access to all of the copyrighted songs that we legally own and she should have every right to use in any way she wants to, without requiring duplicate copies eating up space on her computer's hard drive.
There might be better workarounds. Her entire Music:iTunes folder could simply be an alias to my computer's folder and auto mounted at login but there are disadvantages to that too. For example, iTunes wouldn't auto mount my disk, and changes she makes would be applied to my library. You might want that, it's your call.

I programming a platform independend autonomous datalogger in C based on 6009 and Nidaqmxbase but i see something strange in Windows platform about ini file
I see the lib hook al I/O access to overlappe file read/write and adding some keys especially in INI file with the exact same name of executable
For exemple you got [LVRT] at the top of the ini file, and this not be properly handle, this corrupt INI files lines
I lot my voice when i discover it ! leaves me speechless !
What did you do NI dev team ? did you think about performance & ressources & simplicity ? hum...
You can reproduce with the joined sample with MINGW and make.bat
