50783m Mag (Summer) MCC4 Mtns Christian College
Mountain Lion & Lion would do this basic tarsk. Why cant Mavericks do it?
When I search manual I can find it no problem but it takes a lot longer!!!!!
Help HELP HELP somebody please.

Spotlight has been flakey for me ever since Mountain Lion... Sometimes re-indexing will help.
To re-index your whole startup disk, open System Preferences, select Spotlight, select the Privacy tab, click the plus ( + ) button, add your startup disk (Macintosh HD, or whatever name it goes by), then remove it by clicking the minus ( - ) button. Afterwards, spotlight should perform a fresh indexing of the disk.

  • How do I use Spotlight to find the location of a document?

Spotlight used to show the location of document when I hovered the mouse over an item in its list. It no longer does this. Now it tells me that a document exists and allows me to open the document, but doesn't tell me where to find the document. How do I use Spotlight to find the location of a document?

    Hi Thomas ...
Open System Preferences > Spotlight then select the Search Results tab.
Select the all the categories for the search results you want.
    Restart your Mac.
If that didn't help the Spotlight preferences may be corrupted.
    Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences
Move the com.apple.spotlight.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Try Spotlight.

  • Spotlight can't find a document

    Hello,
I'm using OSX Snow Leopard. Spotlight was unable to find a document in a folder. It found several others that have almost the same name, but not the one I was looking for. By scrolling down in the finder window I found it without spotlight right away.
    To better explain my problem:
I was looking for a document that was called "Paperless". Spotlight found several document in different folders like "Paperlessone", Paperless2" etc. But not able to find "Paperless"
I checked the Spotlight options and it says, that it is looking for everything.
Has anyone an idea, what the problem was and how it could be solved.
    Thank you

Looking for everything is meaningless. Spotlight indexes, most, but not all files/folders. What you have to ensure is that it reports what's in its index. For that, you have to expand the search criteria. Peruse http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html for a Spotlight tutorial.

  • Can't find folder/documents?

When I search for a folder in spotlight, it doesn't come up, and neither do any of the files inside.  However when I go to Word and look at my recent files that I have saved to those locations (I am still able to do so) they're there.  What could the problem be?  I did switch everything over to my current air a month or two ago after my MacBook hinge broke, but so far I haven't found anything to be missing.  Does anyone know how to find where the folder is, and make it so it comes up in search?  I have checked spotlight preferences and both documents and folders are checked as ok.  Thank you!

    mmullen,
Try Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes.

  • My hard drive icon is gone from desk top and does not show up in spotlight or finder searches!

    Hi there
recently my hard drive icon has disappeared from my Macbook Pro (10.7.4) desk top and does not show up in spotlight or finder searches! I have tried several fixes posted online for earlier operating systems with no luck.
Also, when I connect my external hard drive the icon does not appear on the desl top nor in the finder either, making looking for documents impossible.
    Help!!!
    Thanks in advance!

In "finder" click "finder" then "preferences" and navigate to the "general" tab.
Select which items you would like to have show on your desktop.

  • Spotlight Not finding files Re indexing does not work

As the title says really, but there is more.
If I am logged in as one of two users, I can't find the file in the spotlight search, not quite...but if I log in as a new user, the file appears within a few characters being typed in the Spotlight of the new User.
The File title is Su Birth Cert.jpg
If I am logged in as that user, I have to type the filename and include the  (.)  full stop at the end just before the  'jpg'  I don't need to type as far as jpg, Just the Full stop  (.)
It is a jpg file, stored in a "Documents' sub folder with other ID info.
Images are checked in Spotlight Preferences...but it is an Image..in a Documents Sub folder.
I thought that may have been an issue...so i moved some documents over to the "pictures" home folder.  Spotlight continued to find the Document in the Pictures folder.
I Duplicated the Birth Cert image..Spotlight still could not find it
I opened the Image in Preview and exported it as a PDF Spotlight can now find it iinstantly
I have re index multiple times, Re booted, Safe Booted, Recovery booted (where the Menu bar would not work,  where the Menu bar wold not work)   RESET PRAM
Dragged User Folders HDD to Spotlight Privacy, then deleted it so to Force Re indexing
used the command from other threads tp reset user folder permissions.
Disk Utility does not give the option to Repair Permissions on the User Folders HDD.....yes the user Folders are 'moved' via the Sys prefer /Users/ Advanced options, to a separate HDD.
    Any one have any ideas?
Spotlight does just not seem to want to find some files.

  • Spotlight and finder not working after Yosemite upgrade

    Hi,
    I just upgrade to 10.10.1 from 10.8 on a Mid 2012 Retina macbook pro, 2.7Ghz i7, 16GB RAM, 750GB SSD drive.
Since upgrading spotlight and finder have stopped working.  When I first upgraded I noticed it worked very briefly and found some of my applications, but now nothing.  The only thing it does is find the definition of the word I am searching for,
    I have
gone in to sys pref > spotlight added and remove all folders and rebooted the machine
gone in to sys pref > spotlight > privacy tab and ensured no folders are in that pane
gone in to sys pref > spotlight > privacy tab and added "documents folder" closed sys prefs rebooted and then removed "documents" folder to try and trigger a re index
gone to terminal and typed "sudo mdutil -E /" which should erase and rebuild the index but i get the error back "Error: Index is already changing state.  Please try again in a moment"
gone to terminal and typed "sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist" and then typed "sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist"
go to disk utility and verified my disk which comes back as showing no errors
logged in as another user but spotlight and finder still not working
Any other ideas my laptop is useless for work if I can't find anything,
    Thanks

unfortunately I this is still not working, thanks for the link Eric i tried those options, but still the problem remains.
I can clear the cache and re index my mac, and while the system is re indexing spotlight works and I can find material during the reindex.  This is obviously limited to the files that have been indexed at the point of using spotlight.
Once indexing has finished if I go to spotlight and try to search for anything, there are no results only the dictionary appears.
At the moment I have to delete the index cache every morning to trigger a re index so I can work, this is terrible and the worst upgrade experience I have had with any OS mac or windows

  • The find... command from finder does not find my documents

Hi. I have searched this topic and found lots of posts, particularly from spotlight not finding anything.
In my case, neither the find.. command nor spotlight can find my word documents while I can find them manually in their respective folders. I tried the re-indexing solution with no success. I did not have the problem of computer indexing continuosly as describbed in some posts, and in fact, did not notice any change even after restart.
I saw another popular link about resizing (?) the finder window, or something like that, which involve typing some text and saving it in the desktop... but wasn't sure if that would apply to my problem and since I am not an expert was worry it could make things worst as it has happened to some...
by the way if it matters, the documents came from an ibook running Tiger...
Thanks in advance for the answers.

Since I have the time now, assuming that yes, this will improve find... capabilities, here are the questions in between text. Thanks for your patience. Half of the article is chinese for me:
    ARTICLE
Want to tailor the Finder's Find (Command-F) window? Copy the following into TextEdit, make it plain text, and save it to the Desktop as default_smart.plist:....
Q1: ONCE DONE, WILL I KEEP THIS ON DESKTOP FOREVER?
This version of Finder's search box shows the user's home folder as a place to search, includes all system files, is taller than the original window, and the cursor displays in the search box. Note that the ViewHeight field is the difference between bottom and top. So you can adjust it, and the window's width, to suit your needs.
To change the default Find window, run these commands in Terminal (don't type the $), pressing Return after each:
    $ cd /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources
    $ sudo cp default_smart.plist default_smart.plist.bak
The first command changes to the proper directory, and the second one saves the original default search file, so you can restore the current behavior. Enter your admin password at the Password prompt when asked.
Q2: RUN IN TERMINAL, MEANS SIMPLY OPEN TERMINAL FROM UTILITIES, TYPE THIS AND CLOSE IT. RESTART?
To activate your modified search box, use this command:
    $ sudo cp /Users/username/Desktop/default_smart.plist default_smart.plist
Replace username with your user's short username. To return to the original file, cd to that same directory in Terminal, then use this command:
    $ sudo cp default_smart.plist.bak default_smart.plist
Q3: BOTH OF THE ABOVE COMMANDS ARE ALSO IN TERMINAL? NEW WINDOW? OR ALL 4 COMMANDS AT THE SAME TIME PRESSING ENTER TO SEPARATE THEM?
[robg adds: You'll need to kill the Finder for this change to take effect. We've covered this sort of edit before (1, 2), but this one adds the 10.5-specific ability to search system files.]
    WHAT IS KILL THE FINDER?
    Thanks

  • Use Spotlight to find a file

I can use Spotlight to find and open a file or document, but sometimes I want to see where on my hard drive a particular  file/document is.  When I was using Snow Leopard the path would be shown at the bottom of the window.  How do I find the path using Spotlight in Mavericks?

Highlight the result in Spotlight, a preview appears, hold the command key down and the name will appear, continue to hold it and the path will appear.

  • Whenever I try to open a certain document on Microsoft word it keeps saying it is unable to find the document. How do I find it?

I typed a 10 page paper. And when I went to submit it to my class online the document was grey and it had no information and it wouldn't let me open it; like it was corrupted. When I do click on it, it says that Microsoft Word is unable to find my document.
When I click would you like to locate it yourself, it brings me to all my documents but it is no where to be found on my computer. How do I retrieve it?

    Hi Jessica,
From where did you open the file for editing originally? Have you saved it properly before you submit it?
As Paul mentioned above, in some cases, corrupted documents are rarely recoverable. Do you have a backup of that file? Or elaborate a little bit about your situation for further assistance.

  • Find cleared document according entry date of clearing document.

    Hi,
i have poor performance in this issue. I would find cleared document according clearing document. On selection screen are cpudt and cputm clearings documents and i need to find cleared document for these document.
    First statement
select bukrs gjahr belnr into table i_bkpf from bkpf where cpudt in so_cpudt and cputm
    Second statement
select burks gjahr belnr into table i_itab
for all entries in i_bkpf from bsas where bukrs = i_bkpf-bukrs
    <b>and augbl = i_bkpf-belnr and augdt = i_bkpf-budat</b>
    Third stat.
select burks gjahr belnr appending table i_itab
for all entries in i_bkpf from bsak where bukrs = i_bkpf-bukrs
    <b>and augbl = i_bkpf-belnr and augdt = i_bkpf-budat</b>
all is OK but condition augbl = i_bkpf-belnr and augdt = i_bkpf-budat has very poor performance!!
How to solve it? Do you have any solution?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Vidlak,
If you might have noticed, BSAK has a secondary index available (number 1) with the fields :
    LIFNR
    BUKRS
    AUGDT
    AUGBL
    GJAHR
    BELNR
    BUZEI
in the same order. Now since you cant obviously build and query on the primary key atleast try to complete the secondary index key. I can see i_bkpf has BUKRS & GJAHR key, and in the index AUGDT comes before AUGBL hence in construct your where clause for the third statement as
    WHERE BUKRS EQ I_BKPF-BUKRS AND
                 AUGDT EQ I_BKPF-BUDAT AND
    AUGBL EQ I_BKPF-BELNR AND
    GJAHR EQ I_BKPF-GJAHR.
this should certainly help improve performance.
Also seeing how many FOR ALL ENTRIES clauses u are using, one thing for performance improvement is ensure the table is NOT empty before using it and sort the table with its keys.
    Hope its of some help.
    Regards,
    Aditya

  • An error has occurred: Could not find the document.

I get the "An error has occurred: Could not find the document." error when trying to open a URL using OpenDocument.  The URL is as follows:
    http://:<myserver>8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?iDocID=AZjCUhaL3c9Is.YxtGMc7K4&sIDType=CUID
I am certain the value of iDocID is correct, and I am also certain that I can get an OpenDocument to work on the server.  In fact, I tried the same URL using a different iDocID for a Webi report in a different folder, and it works.  For some reason, it appears as though the report in this folder won't open though.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.  I've been working on this for a couple of days an am completely stumped.  Also, I'm relatively new to Business Objects.  Is there a log file that I can view that might give me more details regarding the error?
Thanks in advance for your help!

May be that the user who is accessing the report does not have sufficient rights to view it.
Check whether you are able to view the document as an administrator.

  • EHSM - Create Vendor - error: 'Could not find a document for the given key'

    Dear all,
In the Chemical Approval Process I have attached a SDS document to the Approval Request. You can assign a Vendor to the SDS. As there are no (EHSM) Vendors currently available in the system I would like to create a new (EHSM) Vendor by clicking on 'Create Vendor'.
This will lead me to the following Webdynpro Application: Edit Vendor (EHFND_UI_VENDOR_OVP).
Only one field is shown in the Webdynpro named: 'Name of the Vendor'. After typing a name e.g. 'test', the following error message appears; 'Could not find a document for the given key'. See also attached document. This issue looks like a missing number range, however I could not find a EHSM number range for Vendors.
    How to solve this issue?
    More information:

    Hi
    babooraj
This might be a problem with Windows Power Shell.
The solution is to copy the folder: "PSWorkflow" from "C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\"
    to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules"
    Than everything works fine.
Ps.: @Microsoft, please fix this problem in future versions.

I believe that I have documents that are saved to the iCloud and then switched to the iCloud drive but I am unable to view those documents on the iCloud online or on my iMac.
Why can i not find the documents.

    Hi darceyam,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with iCloud Drive. If you are having issues accesssing your previous files, you may find the following article helpful:
What if I don't see all my files at iCloud.com?
Any documents that you've already stored in iCloud are automatically moved to iCloud Drive when you upgrade. iCloud.com will display these files in the new iCloud Drive app in addition to the iWork apps (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) that you're used to seeing.
If you don’t see your files in the iWork apps or in iCloud Drive, then make sure that you set up iCloud Drive on all of your devices.
