Spotlight not working properly in Save and Save As dialog boxes

When I'm in any program and I go to the "Open Files" dialog box, I can use the spotlight search to search for files by name or by content, and it works fine. However in the "Save File" and "Save File As" dialog boxes, spotlight will only find folders by name. It will not find any files by name or by content in the current folder or anywhere else. It will only show any folders who's name is a match for what I type.
I spoke to Apple support who suggested that I reindex my drive, which I did, but it didn't help. Their next suggestion is to reinstall the OS, which I'm not going to do. By the way, I have a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro which both exhibit the same behavior, so it appears to be a problem with the OS itself. They are both running 10.6.1. I booted up in safe mode and had the same problem.
Any ideas?

If you want to report this to Apple, either send Feedback or send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

I most often do not restart my new MBPro .... 10.9.5 ..... but happened to a day or so ago, and it immediately began to block / problem with email .... I waited to see if it sorted out, but no .....
I get he server “p06-imap.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on port 993 ..... then deselected SSL and that did not help, so went back and selected it again .... and again not working .....
I can see my stuff "online" but I do not want to do it that way EVER .....
your "deselect mail" in ICloud preferences .... did nothing good for me .... any other thoughts Linc ?? in fact, some hundreds of in and sent emails did not show up .... I'm hoping they are going to when this gets fixed .... but hey, ..... right now I'm NOT in business ....

SPOTLIGHT NOT WORKING PROPERLY

Hello all---
I have noticed for the past few weeks that my Spotlight is not working properly. I can put in a search term for a file I **KNOW** is on my HD but it returns no results. During a search for a fix on this site, I found one person's fix by going into the Terminal utility and manually turning on the indexing for Spotlight. I did this; got a "indexing turned on message" but my Spotlight is still NOT indexing or finding on either my internal HD or either of my two external HD's. I've just never run into a problem like this and don't know where to start to look. Can someone please give me a suggestion on how to reset Spotlight or somehow manually ask it to index my HD's so it works better?? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

You can force Spotlight to reindex by going to system preferences>spotlight>privacy and add the drive you want to reindex. Close everything and then delete that drive.
Close everything? What does that mean? Quit all apps? Reboot? Delete the drive you just added to Privacy list?
I don't get it. The Privacy panel says to add drives you DON'T want index. I cannot search my external HD which is where all the production files for our company reside. No matter how many times I select it.
Searching seriously ***** in Leopard. In Tiger, I select the drive I want, the folder or document name, dates if I want to limit search and I am done.

Document Server not working properly on Vista and website

I just got a new PC with Vista Home premium edition and Document server is definitely not working the same as it did on my XP. I know it's an old program so I guess it's finally be time to buy the new stuff but why won't it work on the website I utilized it with? I'm using it with a basic html website that contains no flash (some rollovers though) and it still doensn't transfer over properly. You can even see it if you go to the third tab on the home page http://www.creditcardforum.com to see what I mean. Is it finally just time to let go of this product and upgrade? Has anyone used it successfully with with Vista?

I mad the biggest mistake when I bought all new Windows Vista Pc's. They dont work very well with many products. I tried to format and install a Vista PC and put Windows XP Pro on it but I had so many troubles since I need every new driver in the world. I now just use Adobe Document Server on my Laptop that has XP Pro on it. Works great on there.

Cursor arrow gone from solid black to having white lines go through it and trackpad is not working properly in mail and adobe acrobat - anyone know how this could have happened and how to solve it?

Can anyone help me? Concerned that I may have some kind of malware. My cursor arrow and trackpad are behaving strangely, The cursor used to be a solid black arrow but now seems to have horizontal white lines running through it. The trackpad does not function normally either. For example, when I use my trackpad to scroll up and down in mail it sometimes works and sometimes does not. In adobe acrobat it sometimes does not work. In facebook, the cursor does not line up behind the menu keys as it should.
Any one know how this might have happened and how I can stop it?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

The keys on my mac book pro (2009) are not working properly, both letters and numbers. I think I pressed something,but I cannot find a numlock key or other to undo this problem

Both the letters and numbers on my mac book pro (2009) are not working correctly, but the caplocks key still lights up,the delete key is like a back key,the o key is enter,etc. I think I must of pressed a button but I cannot find numlock or the action to fix it back to normal.

Try this. Open one of your files. The window that contains your picture is named at the top. Command click on the name and you'll see the entire path starting with its name and then moving to the folder, the folder it is contained in, etc all the way to down to the hard drive volume name. This should tell you where to find the folder.

Macbook 2009 Not working properly [Error -50 and other several issues]

I am having several issues with my Macbook, they all showed unexpectedly. Most applications would not work, such as Disk Utility or Pages. Safari couldn't load any webpage, just after a long time it was able to display them. Also, I was having some kind of error -50 when trying to move or delete any file, and iTunes was showing the following message; "iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "ax.itunes.apple.com". The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "ax.itunes.apple.com". I couldn't turn off the computer either, when I tried to doing so it wouldn't do anything, I had to press the power button to turn it off. After that, I turned the computer on, everything showed up as normal but after a few seconds later the computer suddenly turned off, I tried again but I got the same result. Afterwards, I tried in recovery mode, and weirdly, it didn't show any problem. I ran disk utility and verified the hard drive but it says it's working perfectly. The SMART status also says the hard drive is fine.
What could this mean? All these problems appeard suddenly, I've never had any of those issues before.
I have a late 2009 Macbook with Mavericks Installed,
4GB of RAM,
A 320GB Seagate Hard drive,
And a 250MB Graphics Card.

Thanks for your reply! I have no anti-virus software installed, but I have (rather said, had) CleanMyMac though. I installed the demo version and ran it only once. I was curious about it, I had no idea it could make as much damage as MacKeeper.
Also, I scaned again my internal Hard Drive with Disk Utility using the OS X Installation DVD, and according to the report, the partition where the operative system is located is corrupted. Disk Utility tried to repair it but failed, and the most reliable option was to reformat the disk. I proceeded to reformatting it but unfortunately the process was not succesful - I got an error that reads; "POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Cannot allocate memory". I tried to reformat the disk using the terminal, but I was only able to erase it, not to format it. I did a research and I found out the problem might be the SATA cable, (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3507546).
Could that explain also the weird behaviour when I was using the computer? I guess my best bet now is to get a new SATA cable.

Macbook 2009, will not work properly, is slow and music is jumpy any help or advice is appreciated

i bought my macbook pro in the summer of 2009, it worked perfectly fine for pretty much a year and now its messed up
music on itunes will stop every 10 to 30 seconds for 2/3 a time
laptop will freeze (shows the loading disc) most of the time im on it
will not play any games eg sims medeval, same as itunes it pauses every 30 or so seconds
if anyone has any ideas on what i can do to sort it out would be much appreciated!
i have tried resetting it and loading everything back on, it didnt work

update, after another reformat and reinstall of the drive and OS, the macbook is running (not shutting down anymore) but only on A/C, and still does not recognize the battery. I installed Snow Leopard, checked to make sure I had latest firmware updates (did) then updated to the latest Snow Leopard version, about a 1.26 GB download, then used my USB install key for Lion and upgraded. No shutdowns during all of this, looks like a clean Lion install, but still does not see the Battery.
Any of you experts have any ideas?

my spotlight only comes up with web searches even though i've checked that everything else in the system preferences section is ticked like applications and documents. Its really annoying because now i have to search through all my folders to find something.

Air Display not working properly after closed and re-opened

I have a late 2013 iMac (21 inch - 8gb of Ram) and am running 10.10.2
After starting the iMac up and choosing Air Display it 'mirrors' webpage videos well through Apple TV.
The problems start when the Air Display 'mirroring' is turned off and then turned on again.
After Air Display 'mirroring' is turned back on the webpage videos stutter and seem to pulse or falter and the only way I can sort the issue out is to re-start the machine and put mirroring on again.
Has anyone encountered this and does anyone have any suggestions about how to sort this problem out ?

I Don't know what type of issue this is.
I Don't use the Airdisplay all that much so singing off the wifi does the trick well enough for me.
MAybe the the latest software update fixed the issue, as I said I don't use this function a lot.

Applications not working properly after updating t...

After eventually updating to symbian Anna, I've noticed that some applications are not working properly, notably AccuWeather and Facebook. Uninstalled AccuWeather and re-installed it but still didn't work . Seems pointless releasing a software update and then to discover that applications from Ovi store won't work on your device! With Facebook I can only login in to my account but when I go to view a friend etc, it shuts down.
Has anyone any suggestions or solutions to the problem?

i updated to the latest version 025.007 on my E7 too and a lot of the apps on the store dont work. Just blank screens.
Somebody do something!!
I use other devices, and havent faced this problem with any of them after an upgrade!

Color Context does not work properly

Hi,
I'm using MII 12.1
ColorContext does not work properly with Lights and Multilights. I did not test other grids.
For every match it shows black colored lights.
Is there a way to solve this problem?

There was a bug in the early versions of 12.1 for color contexting. Color context changes were made in the display template were not being saved. I would strongly urge you to upgrade to SP5 patch 1. However, if you want a very crude way to test if your contexting is working the way you want it to:
1. Export your display template
2. Find the color context section of the xml and change the settings to the desired color coding
3. Import your modified display template
4. Test
I do not recommend this as a short term or long term solution. It is a hack and should be recognized as such. But it will allow to test your configured display template's behavior.

To change your Apple ID, follow these steps:
Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), click "Manage your Apple ID", and sign in.
If you have two-step verification turned on, you'll be asked to send a verification code to the trusted device associated with your Apple ID. If you are unable to receive messages at your trusted device, follow the guidelines for what to do if you can't sign in with two-step verification.
In the "Apple ID and Primary Email Address section," click Edit.
Enter the email address you want to use, then click Save Changes. Apple will send a verification email to that address.
Open the email from Apple, then click Verify Now in the email.
When the My Apple ID page opens, sign in with your renamed Apple ID.
If you have two-step verification turned on, you'll be asked to send a verification code to the trusted device associated with your Apple ID.
After you see a message indicating that verification is complete, remember to update all of the stores and services that you use with your Apple ID.
