File open/exists problems under Mavericks
If I try to open a file under Mavericks, it says Path is not a valid path even if the files exists for real.
I even tried app.project.file.exists for an opened project, and it return false.
Anybody have an idea ?
CS6, OSX 10.9
By the way my project file is on the desktop, i also tried putting it in Documents, Downloads,etc.. but didn't work either... However it is working on an external drive...Wow, ahahah.
Found the bug source. A big OSX security flaw in my opinion. As the file was on the desktop, the path was Users/Me/Desktop/... However, I had a network connection to my pc, and the link was to my user account, Users/me/... So OSX was not trying to open its own /Users/ path but my PC folder... Somebody could fool the system, by creating a volume called /Users/... with some fake duplicate files, and someone could try to open something on his drive, but in fact it would load the evil Users volume.
I don't understand how this could be possible. I never understood how bad the OSX network volumes system was that bad, but never tought it would be so crappy. -
Print driver problem under Maverick OS
I guess I was a little too quick to update from Lion to Maverick. There is no print driver for my HP Laserjet 3200 All-in-One . I cannot print any pages anymore , it appears Apple threw in some obscure driver that does not work like the one under Lion OS X. Anyone have a suggestion on how to get the old driver into play since Apps does not recognize it under update.
Is it possible to migrate back to Lion?
regards , RoverlenLooks like many of us are out of luck. I now have a new paperweight with exrta printing suppies.

ISO and DVD drive problems under Mavericks
Since I upgraded my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) from Lion to Mavericks I have had problems with ISOs and my DVD drive.
If I download this ISO image for Ubuntu 12.04:
http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/sites/releases.ubuntu.com/releases//precise/ubuntu-12.04. 4-desktop-i386.iso
The md5 checksum of the ISO and it is correct: 14ad92270218a8925d802b3d3b6e140f according to the list at:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes#A12.04_LTS
If I try to mount it, Mavericks reports that there are no mountable file systems.
If I write this to a DVD using Disc Utility and then try to mount the physical disc, Mavericks reports that the disc is unreadable and offers to eject it.
If I run Virtualbox and attach the image to the virtual CD drive device, it boots and installs fine.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here with Mavericks?
What is Mavericks doing differently?ok this just got ultra wierd. i tried running the comp with just one optical drive and my monitor stopped detecting a signal.so i plugged the second drive back in and it started working again. i tried this several times. then i tried running the comp with no optical drives and it worked fine. so it works with 2 or none lol. what a crazy system. i beginning to think this system is hopeless. i have replaced the mobo, and the PSU just to get the graphics card working properly. but now my dvd drive is acting up. grrr.

IPad syncing problem under Mavericks
Since I installed Mavericks on my iMac, syncing my iPad 2 works but the operation never completes. I can unplug the iPad and use it, but when I come back to iTunes, the wheel keeps turning. Even if I plug it back later, the syncing will not end.
What's the cure, please? Not really a reply: addition of information.
I just attempted a new synchronization. The arrangement of icons on the screen was updated, but the new photos are not showing up on the iPad.
In iTunes, the message reads (my translation): Waiting for the application of modifications. But the Apply button isn't showing!
Thanks for the help. -
TrueCrypt 7.1a problems under Mavericks, help needed

Hey guys--so I've run into a bit of a problem.
My computer (before: with outlook 2002 and DM 4.7, no problems synching) had died on me. Anyway, new hard disk, fresh OS, and I've now installed outlook 2007. I installed DM 4.7, and have encountered some problems:
Whenever I try to set up the synchronization, i keep getting an error that says "The computer must be connected to the Internet in order to initially configure synchronization settings. Please ensure you are able to connect to the Internet and try again." The problem is, I AM connected to the net (that's how I'm typing this right now).

Under Maverick (10.9.2) with Safari (7.0.1) I notice that certain login pages of websites are not even presented anymore. As I cannot reach the source of those pages I also do not know which programming/websites they use for the login process. Anybody knows about these problems. As I use Little Snitch to prevent certain markting websites, geared to present information that I am not interested in, there might be a problem there, but I want to know more!
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Problems to print contacts with specific fields under Maverick.
I am unable to print contacts with specific, selected fields like `firm´ or `position´under Mavericks. The selected fields will not show up in the printing preview and not be printed at all. Any ideas?
Thanks, John! It seems you guessed correct, partly at least. I turned some of the problamatic fields off and on again an these are showing up now and I can print them. Great!
However, I can see the field "firma" (German = company in English) in the previewed sample card but not in the pull down menu "Add Field". That means, I am unable to turn it off/on. The intersting thing: The field is visible and selectable even in the printer dialog were you can select the fields you would like to print but it remains unprintable.
Again, many thanks, John! -
How to remove duplicate POP messages in Mail under Mavericks
Hello
I'm having some significant problems with Apple Mail, and despite having researched widely, I haven't been able to find a solution yet. Here is my tale of woe...
My set up is that I use Mail with 5 separate accounts, downloading all messages using POP. I keep ALL my mail (even the trash) so that I have a permanent record of all conversations, going back more than 10 years - this is about 250,000 emails in around 250 subfolders. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks on a 2010 MBP. I have no intention of moving to IMAP - I need to keep a local archive of all my mail.
A few months ago I was having problems with Mail being very slow to load and search emails. I decided to rebuild the mailboxes, but afterwards discovered that thousands of messages in the inbox of one of my accounts (and some of the sub-folders) had disappeared. Once I realised I tried to go back to a recent Time Machine back up, but, for whatever reason, that part of the back up hadn't worked properly and I was unable to recover the previous status. I left it while I decided what to do, and had time to deal with it...
The last 2 years worth of emails on that account were still archived on gmail, so last week I decided to try redownloading the whole lot (something like 72,000 messages), and then planned to use one of the scripts I was aware of to remove the duplicates to the trash, and then remove any duplicates in the trash forever. That ought to mean I at least had an archive of the last two years of missing messages, even if I had no record of which ones had been flagged or replied to, etc.
The downloading took about 24 hours to complete, and I now have almost 70,000 messages in the inbox of that account. I also rebuilt all the folders again, which doesn't seem to have resulted in any further loss of messages as far as I can tell. However, I hadn't figured on two things:
1. Mail 'hides' duplicate messages, meaning that all of the messages I've downloaded are showing as unread, and I can't differentiate the ones I already had in my Inbox, and the new downloads. When I click on those apparently unread messages I can see if they have been replied to or forwarded, etc, but there's no obvious way for me to remove the ones I have already dealt with to the trash, without going through them all manually, which is clearly impossible.
2. The scripts I'd found for removing duplicates don't work. Andreas Amann's Remove Duplicates script doesn't work under Mavericks, and he has abandoned the project. I've also tried the remove-duplicate-messages.scpt made by Jolly Roger (http://jollyroger.kicks-***.org/software/), and while it *sometimes* works on individual subfolders on my Mac (but as far as I can tell removes the duplicate in that folder, rather than the newly downloaded version), mostly it doesn't work at all - it creates a 'Remove Duplicate Messages' folder on my desktop, a log inside it and a folder for removed messages, but nothing appears in the duplicates folder.
So, I'm left in a position where I have 70,000 apparently unread messages in my Inbox, a massively bloated Mail library (which has pretty much doubled in size, because of the 'hidden' messages), a slow and unresponsive Mail program. I've come to the conclusion that there must be some corrupted email somewhere, which probably caused the original email haemorrhage, and may still be causing the inability to remove duplicates. Mail is so slow as to be almost unuseable.
I figure I have a number of options:
1. I could live with the situation and just archive most of the Mail in my inbox, with the side effect that there will be a bunch of messages I have never replied to that are missed.
2. I could abandon the last week's efforts and revert to the version of Mail I was using a week ago, and then redownload the recent emails from my various accounts. That would still leave me without those thousands of emails I lost on my local machine.
3. I could find another way to deal with this. Can I get the remove duplicates script working? Should I revert to the version of Mail from a week ago, download ALL the messages again, but do it in a way that allows me to find the duplicates and remove them? Should I move to another email program altogether (which would presumably be massively disruptive to my work!)
Anyway, apologies for the essay length of this request, and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer!hi Eric
thanks for the tip, but I don't think that solves my problem, which is that Mail apparently hides the duplicates, so they're still there, you just can't differentiate or remove them. I actually *need* the duplicates there so I know I've got everything, but then I need to be able to move the ones I know I've dealt with from my inbox to an archive/trash, and/or remove them completely so Mail isn't totally bloated -
Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) sleep wake problems under Yosemite
Hi,
Ever since I installed Yosemite on my MBP (details in the screen shot below), I've been getting Sleep Wake problems. At night, I simply close the lid of the laptop, leaving all applications running, and in the morning I wake it up. This worked fine under Mavericks on this laptop, but since Yosemite, every time I open the lid, I've had problems. Initially, I'd open the lid and the machine would restore from what looked like a deep sleep (screen would get an alpha layer on it, and the little progress bar would appear, as though it's waking from the battery running out). I ran Disk Utility, which found and repaired an issue on the disk (can't remember the details, unfortunately), and ever since then, when I open the lid, I have to hit the power button to get the machine going. It restores in about 15 seconds (nice and fast), and it does re-launch all of the applications I had open, but the machine will also show a little system alert, indicating a "Sleep Wake Problem". Each time I see it, I submit the issue to Apple. Because I'm an idiot, I forgot to copy the crash log from this morning, but I'll do that tomorrow and append it to this thread. Meanwhile, if anybody is having a similar experience and can isolate the cause, I'd love to know. A few variables which might matter:
* I have a Thunderbolt external hard drive which I use for Time Machine. Each night, I eject the disk before shutting the laptop down (I bring the machine home with me each night). My laptop used to have issues ejecting external disks, which I traced (thanks to this board) to an issue with attempting to put an external drive to sleep (I think that was the issue). I haven't had any issues since that time.
* The apps I have running all the time are Mail, Safari, Coda (text editor) and VMWare 8, which is running a Windows7 VM. That's been my environment for years now, yet the sleep-wake issue only started since upgrading to Yosemite.
Any help/advice is appreciated.
Thanks!Hi Ben,
Another sleep issue and adding to your post... My MacBook Pro (2.7ghz early 2011)
Leaving apps open and closing the "lid" and then going to bed... several times thru out the night my MacBook will start to wake up. The optical drive spins up (DVD is in the drive), the hard drive fires up, I think i can see the screen glow ("lid" is still closed). Then it sets itself back to sleep (must detect the closed lid).
Did not do this with Mavericks or other earlier OSs.
I have not begun to try to figure this out... today is the day! lol. -
Printing to an Epson 7900 under Mavericks
Anyone experienced problems printing to an Epson 7900 under Mavericks OS X 10.9 ?
According to Epson I have the latest drivers installed for the 7900, V9.04
I have 2 MACS - a MacBookPro running under Mountain Lion and I've updated my MacBook Air to run 10.9.
No problems printing the same file from the MacBookPro.
On the MacAir, I certainly see the printer; can send a file to it - but it prints and is terribly garbled. I see supply levels on the MacAir too.
But the interaction with the Driver is strange - it keeps reverting back to my HP 2100, Updating the settings in the printing Presets doesn't stick, etc.
the print is an almost total mess - it's the right size and you can see the image and some parts are fine - but the rest of it looks like it's done with drastic motion blur (so that looks like the driver is scrambling something).
If nobody else has seen this, then I will start by deleting the driver; re-installing it all and so forth - but just interested to see if anybody else out there has had trouble with it.
jcuse a computer with an internet connection to download the installation files (to a usb stick, eg) and transfer the stick to your non-connected computer.

Got major problem. Can't order previosly published projects under Mavericks. Nothing else has changed so it looks like a software problem. Anyone with any ideas?
Created a number of books in iPhoto and ordered them from Apple store via the software link. No problems except now that I have upgraded to Mavericks, I can't reorder the books since I keep getting a message at the end of the uploading to the Apple store which says "An error occurred uploading your Order" and asks if I wish to cancel order or retry. I have retried a number of times but to no avail. I have tried ordering from my MacAir instead of my iMac but still not luck. I have restared with the shift held down to move to safe startup but still no luck. I have reinstalled iPhoto but still no luck. It would be great if the Apple store could just reprint my books since nothing has changed and I just need more copies but this doesn't seem to be an option.

Intel Fortran compiler broken under Mavericks
After upgrading to OS 9 on a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro, and installing Xcode 5.0.1 on both, my Intel Fortran compiler (vs 12.0.5) no longer works. I have updated the command line tools. When I try compiling a source file it fails with the message:
ifort: error #10001: could not find directory in which g++ resides
There is a compiler option to specify the location of g++ "-gxx-name=" but this doesn't help - same error message. I'm not sure if I need to set a system variable or if I need to go back to an earlier version of Xcode. Has anyone managed to get their Intel Fortran compiler working under Mavericks?I haven't found this topic in the other Categories, so I'll reply here:
I'm having the same problem!!! Leopard has crashed ifort 32 bits! So I can't run my programs on my macbook core duo (32 bits), although it's ok with the ifort 64 bits version. But I really REALLY need the 32 version working on Leopard. Anyone has any clue about how to solve it? I've tried some 9.1 ifort's versions and the new 10.1 version. You can find evaluation versions on the intel's site.
Please someone help us.
Thanks,

Also on my Macbook Pro with Maverick 10.9.1. Aperture 3.5.1 hangs if I try to import files.
If I chose a folder containing *.mov, *.mp4, *.wmv or other not supported files, Aperture hangs immedialtely.
I asked apples support today. They recommended to update Maverick to 10.9.1.
So I did. But I had no progress with the Aperture problem.
The second recommendation was to chage the language of the Macbook to english. But also this had no effect to the described problem.
And now?
Best regards, Ekkehard Makosch

Dreamweaver CS3 under Mavericks
I just upgraded my Mac OS from 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.9.4 (Mavericks). My copy of Dreamweaver CS3 no longer works. The error message reads: "You can't open the application Dreamweaver because Power PC applications are no longer supported." The Adobe website says that there should be no problem with CS3 CS4 and CS5 under Mavericks. Any idea how to solve this problem?
ThanksJust a quick additional comment:
If you are going the Freeware route, I can recommend Kompozer as an alternative that runs well on Macintosh. If you are looking for a plain text editor for Macintosh, Bare Bones software makes Text Wrangler, which does provide strong code-hinting. I have used BBEdit, which is $50 (and they'll let you try before you buy) along with Dreamweaver to compare differences in code as well as doing the kinds of search and replace stuff that Dreamweaver just won't do (like grep type searches for patterns in text). BBEdit totally rocks and I purchased it after one use.
If I'm working with BBEdit and not Dreamweaver, I will set up a browser (usually Firefox with Firebug) to help me look at what I'm doing and BBEdit on the other side. With a large monitor, you can see what you are doing while you are doing it.
What you don't get (and things I still rely on a lot) are Dreamweaver's handy tools for inserting an image and Dreamweaver's ability to template a website so that you build a master page and any changes to that master page (as in navigation, a new header, changes to the footer and so on) are updated globally. Also, if you have bulleted text but it's not formatted correctly, Dreamweaver lets you do ordered and unordered lists very quickly from a series of paragraphs. So it's a better visual tool for me.
I used Kompozer a number of years ago after I got sick of how N|vu wasn't being updated often. It's easier to use than a TextWrangler/Web browser combo.
My father is 81. There is no way he'd be able to do a website. So I wish you good luck.

Clicking noise from left side of body?
There's an incessant clicking noise coming from the left side of my macbook, about once a second, not from the speaker. I can't tell if it's the top or bottom, but bottom is my guess. What is causing this/should I be worried about it?
