Spotlight - Results from Shared Drives

I'm looking for a solution, how to bring the Spotlight Search Result Page showing me also results from Shared Drives.
(My Shared Drives are hosted by a OS X Lion Server and an AFP Share)
Any ideas?
Thanks
Bojan

I'd like to know how to do this too.
I have several folders shared on Lion server and have got spotlight to index their drives successfully on the server. Once the shares are mounted on the client machines, I can search the server results through the search window in Finder, no problem. But results from those shares never appear in the spotlight window on the menu bar.
Anyone know how to fix this or change spotlight so it defaults to include shared locations?
Thanks

  • Spotlight doesn't return results from shared drives

    I work in an all Mac graphics shop and we all (four of us) share a variety of volumes connected to a G4 running Tiger 10.4.11 (regular, not server version). Two of us have Leopard and two have Tiger (two Mac Pros running 10.5.6, two MacBook Pros running 10.4.11).
    The G4 is partitioned into an 80gb drive, a 500gb drive, and also has an external 500gb LaCie drive. We access all drives on this computer by automatically connecting to the shared "network" when we boot up each day. Hornware's Sharepoints is installed on the G4 "server".
    Recently, the two of us running Leopard on our MacPros lost the ability to search the shared volumes. I have had intermittent permissions problems since I started in October and I have attempted to troubleshoot this using the Sharepoints application (which, admittedly, I'm not familiar with, and I'm a noob to networking).
    I have tried adding and then deleting the drives from the privacy pane in Spotlight preferences (both on my MacPro and on the G4 server Mac). I've repaired permissions with Disk Utility. I've used DiskWarrior 3 to rebuild the directories on all but the external drive (will do that tomorrow). I also ran TechTools 4 but it took so long running the tests that I gave up and canceled (didn't work), force-quit and restarted.
    The second part of my question is would it be worth it to upgrade to Leopard on our server Mac and do away with Sharepoints altogether? I've read some horror stories about Leopard's buggy filesharing but I'm really hamstrung not being able to search my shared volumes.
    Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Start with a search in these forums for search server, search servers, search network, etc. The first step. You'll find numerous items to peruse.
    Once that's fixed, see these for the Spotlight issues, if they're not related to the server one: http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html and my mod to Finder's Find at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6725932 for what you can change so you can find stuff excluded by the default structure.

  • Print pdf from shared drive

    Hello Experts,
    I have a requirement to print PDF document from SAP without user interaction.
    Here PDF document will be in another server say, shared drive. In simple way, if i execute the program (shared drive path of the document will be hardcoded in program) PDF document(which will be on shared drive) will get printed on local default printer.
    Please help me if anybody worked on similar requirement.
    Thank you very much

    In SAP Business by Designer, there is a reuse component called "Output management", which can enable end users to preview and print PDF document in a very convenient way. The printing is implemented in method:
    PDF binary data and printer code can be stored in ls_print_data.
    CALL METHOD cl_output_service=>document_output(
                    it_attachment_ids = lt_att_ids
                    is_archive_folder = ls_archive_folder
                    is_application_id = ls_application_id
                    ip_in_update_task = abap_false
                    ip_application_queue_id = lv_output_queue_id
                    ip_output_immediately = lv_output_imm
                    ip_output_at = lv_output_plan_time
                    ip_subject = lv_email_subject
                    is_recipients = ls_recipients
                    is_docdata = ls_docdata
                    is_send_data = ls_send_data
                    is_print_data = ls_print_data

  • How to install Adobe InDesign from Shared Drive ?

    I was given a volume licensed DVD and was instructed to remotely install the software on another user's PC. I tried copying the setup file to the shared drive but was unable to install the software (serial key invalid) numerous times. Experienced no problems when attempting to install direct from the DVD. The DVD is a burnt copy from the original. I would install the application directly using the DVD but the user is located in a different state. Any solutions ?

  • Spotlight broken for shared drives

    I'm using a MacMini under Mavericks 10.9.2 as a file server with a big external drive connected via FW800. Several folders of that drive are shared network folders (AFP, not SMB, no windows machines around here). The MBPs are all on 10.9.2 either. The Wifi is generated by an Airport Extreme base station (newest model). However, trying to locate files on the network shares via spotlight doesn't work if typing in search strings longer than 3 characters.
    Has anybody seen similar problems? Any clue how to fix this?
    Many thanks!

    While I haven't seen this issue personally, have you tried reindexing the network drives on the affected machines? I find it fixes a lot of problems with Spotlight search going sideways.
    This article shows how: Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes
    Hope that helps!

  • CS4 InDesign Slow with files opened from shared drive

    We have an issue that I can't seem to figure out...
    I have six different people using Word files and InDesign files that are being opened from a server. When going from Word into InDesign (or vise verse) it takes a few seconds for the cursor to become active; however if the user is copying text from Word to any other Adobe product (Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark) no lag at all. They are also all getting a PDF creation failed when trying to save to the server (error is attatched).
    It's  not a specific file because all six people have the same issue, and  they're all working on separate projects.
    It's not machine specific since (again) all six Macs have the issue.
    Obviously it's an InDesign issue, but what, and why all of a sudden?
    Any  help would GREATLY be appreciated.

    My first guess would be that the client OS version could be apart of it - small changes to the SMB client in 10.6 could explain it. I'd also be interested in looking at the firewall issue. It may well be a combination of both.
    I think said earlier that working locally was not a problem, so you've already done the first logical test. Next, I'd think about trying the following, the order of which I'd base on their level of difficulty:
    Temporarily put one of the problematic client machines inside the firewall (or the server outside of it, though I assume that would be harder/impossible)
    Either upgrade one the of the problematic machines to 10.6.2, or create a Snow Leopard boot system with InDesign installed (on an external drive?) from which you can boot the machine
    I'm sure getting rid of the firewall is not a long term solution, but it would be good to know for future reference whether the firewall is involved. Would upgrading to Snow Leopard be in the cards if it does seem to fix it?

  • Delete old Time Machine databases from shared drive

    1) I have an external drive that was used to store both data and Time Machine backups on the same partition.
    2) I have started FRESH with a Time Capsule for my backups and my first backup is complete, so I am willing to release the old databases.
    QUESTION: How do I delete the old databases?  Is it as simple as manually trashing the Backups.backupdb Folder?

    If there is other data on the volume (drive or partition), you can delete the Backups.backupdbfolder, but it will take a very long time to empty the trash afterwards (as there may be from several hundred thousand to a few million files), and you may have trouble with locked files and/or permissions.  If possible, it’s much better to delete the backups individually as above, or copy the other data elsewhere temporarily, erase the volume with Disk Utility, and copy the data back. (Again, a separate partition for Time Machine backups is advised.)

  • Read-only access when saving metadata to file from Adobe Lightroom on a MAC OS to Windows shared drive

    We have a group of 5 people editing and indexing photos to a shared drive on a windows server, everyone has its own catalog and working on different folders to avoid any locking conflicts.
    The windows computers don't have any problems but the Mac's don't write the updated metadata to all files because they get the message "Photos have read-only access".
    The environment is the following:
    2x Macs workstations running:
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    - iMAC with MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    3x Windows Workstations:
    - Windows 7
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    Server:
    - Shared drive on a Windows Server 2012 Standard
    I have searched the internet, no one has this problem with this exact setup but I have tried all the solutions I found, namely:
    1. Connect to the network drive with cifs:// protocol
    2. Change the settings of the nsmb.conf for 'smb1_only' protocol
    3. Mount the drive manually by command line
    Nothing worked, any ideas?

    Did you ever find a solution to this problem?  I have the same issue and wonder if Lightroom 6 will resolve it.  I  tried AFP, SMB2, SMB3 and they all failed to save metadata randomly. When I use NFS from OS X then it works fine but it's a little slower than SMB and it's not as native as the mount via AFP or SMB, so it's harder to maintain.     My server is a FreeNAS 9.2 (FreeBSD) which is running Samba, Netatalk and native NFS.

    Hi,
    If the destination folder is shared and can be accessed via SAP, then you can use FM EPS_FTP_PUT.
    call function 'EPS_FTP_PUT'

  • Is it possible to access a single Lightroom catalogue mounted on a shared drive from multiple computers, each with an individual Lightroom install?

    Is it possible to access a single Lightroom catalogue mounted on a shared drive from multiple computers, each with an individual Lightroom install?

    No, Lightroom catalogs cannot be on a networked (shared) drive, and they do not support simultaneous multi-user access

  • Can I install from a shared drive?

    I have about 25 people who need to install Technical Communication Suite 4. Does each person need to copy the installation files (exe and 7z files) to their local environment before running the install, or can they run the install files from a shared drive and it will install TCS4 on their local?

    Shannon,
    If you've purchased your license through the volume licensing program, you should be using the Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition Release 3.1 tool to install your TCS4 licenses.

    Hi,
    The error message may be thrown out when you attempt to create a database on another shared cluster drive when the SQL Server resource is not dependent on that disk.
    Check if you are in the scenario which mentioned in the following article:
