Spotlight search results depend on if a user is logged in?

I am trying to gather files to my computer with the Spotlight search. I noticed that if a user is logged in, I can see the file I'm looking for in the Results page and if no user is logged in, I can't. I want to be able to gather files whether users are logged in or not. Is there a way?
Thank you for your help

No, I don't see it in the File Search Report, whether the user is logged in or not. I still don't understand why some files show up and others don't. I have to say that I am disapointed in Remote Desktop about file search (Spotlight and Report). It is a very expensive program which our school bought primarily to be able to do File Search and I have had a lot of problems with it and have posted several times on this forum without really managing to make it work successfully.
Thank you very much for your help.

  • Spotlight Search Results - Sort by Date Modified

Running 10.5.2 on a Mac Pro.
Is there a way to sort Spotlight search results by date modified?
Am I missing something really basic or is Apple kinda going insane?
I also don't like that I can't search my files by filename without also allowing Spotlight to index the contents of my hard drive. I don't want my content indexed.
Why does Apple use AES encryption for FileVault? It has an NSA backdoor...
And while I'm at it, I can't network with my PB180 running System 7.5.5 anymore (OSX 10.2 let me).

If you want to report this to Apple, send Feedback and send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • How do I copy text from a Spotlight search result quicklook window?

Is it possible to copy text from the quicklook windows that appear when you hover over a Spotlight search result? It would be useful to be able to copy, say, a phone number or email address straight from the address book card that appears in Spotlight. The only options I see are to display the text in large type and to Facetime (for phone numbers) and to perform mapping functions for addresses; simple copying seems to be disabled for some reason.
I am using Spotlight in OS 10.7.5.

  • Maniplating Spotlight Search Results

When I open Entourage emails found in my Spotlight search results the date and time associated with the email automatically changes to today's date and time and the email - no matter how old it is - shows up as the first item in the list of found items. Is there any way to stop this from happening?
Also, is there a way to add columns to the search results that would show more information such as location or sender?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Is there any way to use Quickview from within Spotlight search results?

I'm sure this has been answered previously, but my searches came up empty....
Is there any way to use Quickview from within Spotlight search results? I'd like to be able to do a Spotlight search and hit the space bar for a quick Quickview look before actually launching the program. I'm guessing this isn't possible, but thought I'd ask...

    Thanks, Kappy.
Duh...I meant Quick Look. Sorry about that.
In any event, pressing the space bar in Spotlight just puts a space in the Spotlight search box - it doesn't open a Quick view of the highlighted item...

  • Spotlight search results for a contact no longer display details

    3GS software ver 3.1.3
    new problem with spotlight/search/contacts/results:
I use spotlight to search on a contact, select the result.
Normally it would display the details of the contact I have chosen. I like this.
Now it is going to the All Contacts function. This is a problem for me.
I have looked in this forum and the user guide for an answer.

Actually there have been complaints off and on for ages that keyword search doesn't work at all, though you say that it was working for you. Certainly it isn't producing a result now, though searching on your title does. I'm afraid that all this is internal to the Store - the ranking and search methods are opaque and despite various websites claiming to explain them, nobody really knows except Apple, and as usual they aren't talking. There isn't really anything you can do about this.

  • Spotlight Search Results Incomplete

    Hi,
we run 10.6.8 server on xServe. QNAP NAS server is connected via iSCSI and it is shared as a network share for network users.
We have troubles searching documents by spotlight, because results are still incomplete.
We walked through all processes we found but finaly results are not ralible.
What we found is, that it works fine during spotlight re indexing process. But when re indexing finished it is incomplete again.
For example if I want to search documet "concept_001.pdf" it works during re indexing. It is founded and it is ok.
But when I put the same request after re indexing is finished, it doesn't work.
    Any idea?
    Thanx.

    Back up all data.
    In Contacts, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Contacts Archive
from the menu bar, and save the archive to your Desktop.
If you use iCloud, disable contact synchronization in the iCloud preference pane. When prompted, click Delete From Mac. Re-enable synchronization. Wait for the contacts to re-synchronize, then test.
If you don't use iCloud, or if the contacts fail to synchronize, delete all contacts, then select
    File ▹ Import…
and import the archive you created. It may take a few seconds for the contacts to be indexed. Test.
If you don't like the results of this procedure, quit the application. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Restore the folder that opens from the backup you made before you started.

  • Spotlight Search Results - Missing Items

When I search in Spotlight I've noticed that it's not including images in the results that I would expect to find there. e.g. If I type Coniston in the spotlight search field it doesn't find any of the 62 images in iPhoto (6.0.6(322)) that have the word Coniston in their title. I have got images checked in the Spotlight preferences. Can someone help?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to disable the “Trim Duplicates” in SharePoint 2013.
In SharePoint 2013, the “Remove Duplicate Results” option has been removed, but we can use the “View Duplicates Link” option.
The TrimDuplicates to specify whether to trim away the duplicate search results from the result set. TrimDuplicates is true by
    default.
If you want to disable the feature, as you had said, we should export the web part and modify the
    'TrimDuplicates' setting then re-upload it.

  • Spotlight Search results - how to get the "categories" view full-screen?

I don't use Spotlight that often, but when I did in TIGER I got a nice listing by category when I requested the SHOW ALL results screen. I saw results grouped by documents, folders, images, pdf, contacts etc.
Now with LEOPARD I see the categories when I search by clicking on the upper right-- but then if I choose SHOW ALL the results appear in a smart folder and they are in more or less the standard name, kind or date format-- but the wonderful categories listing (as in the dropdown menu listing) is no longer there. IS THERE A WAY to get that 'categories' listing view back?
    Best regards,

Categories is gone from Leopard's Spotlight. For more on Leopard's Spotlight, see http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html and my mod to Finder's Find at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6725932 for what you can change so you can find stuff excluded by the default structure.

  • Spotlight Comments do not appear in Spotlight search results

I have a .png file on my desktop.
    Right click >> Get Info
Spotlight Comments has the string 'Fruit' saved.
If I search for 'Fruit' in Spotlight I get no results, why?

    Hi TD
    Yes and no.
Yes it worked the way you mentioned but if I change the Spotlight Comment: on the same file to something else I can still find it via 'Fruit'. I much prefer command-space bar to call Spotlight.
How long does it take a change to a Spotlight Comment: to filter into Spotlight?
Its not the end of the world its just I was finding Spotlight really useful until I came up against this.

  • SpotLight Search Results Preference Pain Missing 4 Categories

    Hello;
My Spotlight Preference Pain Window only show 10 of the 14 categories. The...
    Applications
    System Preferences
    Documents
    Folders
    Mail
    Contacts
    Evens & To Do Items
    Images
    PDF Documents and
    Webpage
listings are all there, but the
    Music
    Movies
    Fonts
    Presentation
    ...listings are not.
All 14 of the boxes you can check are there, and they are checked, but the words MUSIC, MOVIES, FONTS, and PRESENTATIONS that are supposed to be next to the boxes are not. Looks like this:
    1 √ Applications
    2 √ System Preferences
    3 √ Documents
    4 √ Folders
    5 √ Mail Messages
    6 √ Contacts
    7 √ Events & To Do Items
    8 √ Images
    9 √ PDF Documents
    10 √ Bookmarks
    11 √
    12 √
    13 √
    14 √
And I should add that they don't show up in in the Preference Pains any of my User Accounts.
Why is that and how do I fix it?
    Blessings,
    Damon

  • Restrict spotlight search results for pdfs

I have a great number of academic papers in pdf format. Each paper has a title, an abstract, main text and a number of references. By default spotlight wouldn't distinguish the difference between these portions. But when I type the title of paper, papers that cite that paper also shows up, which is annoy, because I actually only want to locate the paper that has the title. I'm wondering if there is a way to restrict searches in only title, abstract, main text or references in academic papers of pdf format.

Using a Finder search (command-F), which also uses Spotlight, you should be able to tailor your searches to file names as well as extensions, or other criteria.
