Spotlight search web frozen safari links

When i use spotlight search on iOS to search the web, after clicking on the web search link it opens safari in google search results page. The links (be they the search resul links to websites, or the 'web, images, videos, etc' tab links, appear static and do not react to any finger taps in the screen. The only way to het a link to work is to refresh the page, amd search manually. But from spotlight search, all i get is a static screen similar to as if it was a screenshot image, posing as a search result page.

There is no edit button to edit my bad spelling on the original post here. Apple also have made a boob as the first post has no edit after psting. But comments do!

  • Iphone 6, "spotlight search" freezes after 8.2 update

Is anybody experiencing the spotlight search " web freeze" after updating  iPhone to ios 8.2?
Swiping down anywhere on your iPhone screen brings down spotlight search feature (can't be on a app icon, or at the top/bottom screen for this to work).  Very handy feature allowing you to search your iPhone, it's apps, and the web for instant access of what you search- nice!  And tapping on the search results connects you to it.  So searching google, for example gives results of google on the web, google app in iPhone apps, and anything else.  But now this nice feature has stopped here after the update of ios 8.2.   Pressing on the search links, beyond anything contained in the iPhone, comes to a "freeze screen" of what's being searched, and no connection, and the only solution is to back out by pressing the front iPhone button.
    1.  Phone has internet access and no problem on other apps such as google, chrome, YouTube, iPhone buy apps, ... etc. on the phone
    2.   Plenty of data left, Wi-Fi and internet usage not the issue
    3.  Wife's iPhone 6 has not been updated- no problems, and spotlight search was working properly on my phone before update

I finally got this problem to resolve after messing around (hooking up to a laptop ios update) and rebooting my iPhone 6.  Could be a iPhone glitch during updating to 8.2.  I'm still puzzled though, so if anybody gets this problem, try what I did.  If it's still a problem go see a apple store.  My wife is wondering now if she wants to update her iPhone 6.

  • How do you change the Spotlight Search from Google to Yahoo???

Does anyone know how to change the Spotlight Search setting in Safari 4 (Non Beta) from Google to Yahoo? I assume there is a way to do this though Terminal but all I can find are commands for the the Beta and not he final version.

I'll echo the other suggestion given already - Glims is the way to go.
My Safari is now set to use (oh the irony!) Live Search!
Now if they can JUST find a way to get the address bar to revert to pre-4.0 behavior I'll be happy!
(I'm not talking about the reload button on the far end; I'm talking about listing URLs by page title, "Top Sites", and bookmarks in that dropdown)

  • Spotlight search no longer searches the web?

Spotlight search was the best in Mavericks - it searched the web. Yosemite no longer searches the web.
Settings has no spot to add the web search.
I have to open Safari to do a web search - good grief.
It was temporarily removed from iOS7 and restored after popular demand.
I hope this happens with Yosemite. Please.

After searching help on spotlight and clicking on show me Bing search in preferences, the addition preferences showed up and the web searches began happening. The preferences did not go all the way to 21 when I first looked at them and scrolled down. The web search was definitely not included because so few results were returned as opposed to the identical search now. I'm not sure why the preferences for Bing search were omitted when I first review preferences prior to doing the search of help.
It appears to now be searching the web and have the ability to include web searches optionally.

  • No web content in Yosemite spotlight searches.

I am only getting local information from my mac book pro when I try a spotlight search. I am not getting any web content from bing or wikipedia at all.

I also assume you have a working internet connection and all categories ticked in SystemPrefrences/Spotlight/Search Results. (i'm not teasing here, just double checking)
Is the little triangle coming up in the menu bar as soon as an app uses location services on your machine? like weather in notifications for instance.
Also: In Safari, what search engine have you selected? I find spotlight behaves erratically when Google is selected as default search engine in Safari.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.
    * Preferences that have been modified are shown as '''bold (user set)'''.
    * Preferences can be '''Reset to the default''' or changed via the right-click context menu.
-> In the '''Filter bar''', type '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries'''
    * Right click the preference '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries''' and click '''Modify'''
    * Change value from 0 to whatever you want over 0 (Default value is 50)
    * click OK
-> Close the '''about:config''' tab and then Restart Firefox.

Reminders is automatically installed with 10.8 or above. A new Mac should have 10.9; it's possible that, with a third-party vendor, you have an earlier OS. Check under the Apple menu in the top left and click About This Mac. That will tell you what version of OS X you have.

  • Spotlight searching on hosted Web sites

As usual, Spotlight searching on Web sites hosted on OS X Server is yet again the ******* child of OS X Server's Web hosting, with zero documentation or information on how to configure and use it. Take a look at the implementation on my site here:
    http://www.newslink.com/.spotlight
Apple's documentation says only that "you can customize the template.spotlight file" but that's it. Zip, zero, zilch, nada, as far as how to configure it or what you can configure. So I'm left with very cryptic popup menus including:
    kMDItemTextContent
    kMDItemAttributeChangeDate
and a handful of others, coupled with search criteria equally cryptic, such as:
    ==
    !=
    <
    <div class="jive-quote">
    and so on.
My company's employees (want to be able to) use this functionality to search our Web site very frequently throughout the day. But it's like banging your head against the wall to figure out how to work this search feature!
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I want to be able to search easily, without cryptic codes, and ideally be able to see the results sorted by date, relevance, file size and so on, like you can do so easily with EVERY other Web site in the ENTIRE WORLD.
I apologize for sounding frustrated. But here Apple proclaims to have server software practically written by God himself and then it's a clusterf* to try and make it work, especially with no documentation about very critical features like simply searching a Web site.
Thank you tremendously for any help or guidance.

Besides the (errh) strong feelings and wording:
    *Same here.*
My WebServer directory with a lot of PDF files simply makes Apache crash:
    +05.12.07 17:21:08 ReportCrash[232] Formulating crash report for process httpd[147]+
    +05.12.07 17:21:09 ReportCrash[232] Saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/httpd2007-12-05-172105YADAYADA.crash using uid: 0 gid: 0, euid: 0 egid: 0+
For what it's worth: Using the Spotlight services via Finder menu on the server works fine...
(and searching in the PDFs via File Sharing works also...)
    Cheers,

  • Spotlight search results window columns frozen

Spotlight search results window columns "Name", "Kind", "Last Opened" are sometimes "frozen" and cannot be clicked. Sometimes can be clicked.

    HI,
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.spotlight.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • HT201285 Why can you no longer search the web from the spotlight search bar?

I just upgraded to iOS.7 and the spotlight search no longer searches the web. Why would that be?

Ask Apple.  Nobody here would know.

  • When I go to search web pages on safari my screen has a grey cover over page and won't let me click on items?, When I go to search web pages on safari my screen has a grey cover over page and won't let me click on items?

When I go to search the web on safari my screen is greyed out and I can't click on any anything. What should i do?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My Safari browser says type address here - why doesn't it say search web?

Why would the iPhone browser say "type address" in the search bar ...? I want it to say search web ... I don't always know the address of the site I'm looking for ...

The address bar should double as a search bar, despite the text that you see.
If you find that typing a word/phrase results in error messages, rather than a web search, post the error message here and we'll try to help sort things out.

  • Password protecting mail app and permanent deletion of emails so they don't appear in spotlight search

I realise that there is a temporary way to prevent this happening by unticking the 'mail' option in the spotlight search settings menu, but how do you permanently delete the emails? I assumed that when I hit delete then emptied the trash box, the mails were gone for good. But finding that they remain stored in some hidden place and can be easily accessed is very annoying! In fact, finding that other users can quickly change the settings back and have free access to my email is rather disturbing anyway, especially as there is no way to password protect my email account once i activate the mail app. the apple mail app is linked to my yahoo account, but within yahoo mail there seems to be no problem in regards to deleted mail being stored somewhere else, only within the apple app system.
So i guess id like to know, is there some way to password protect my account or do I just need to keep deleting my account before lending the ipad to someone else and then reinstating it? And is there any way to properly delete emails for good?
I would be happy just to go without the mail app and log in directly through yahoo in Safari, except that I find the notification alert when I receive a new mail very handy!!

[edit] I dragged the email I sent through the MBP Mail app (under MAILBOXES > Sent > Yahoo!) to the highlighted Sent folder (YAHOO! > Sent), and now it shows up on all Yahoo Sent folders (iPad app, web browser, phone app). Not entirely solved the issue but will use web browser to sent future emails to keep everything in sync.

  • Spotlight searching for mailing list archives

I need to make spotlight searches available for individual Mailman/Pipermail mailing lists' web archives. How can I do it? So far, the only way I've found is to make a copy of the mailing list's web archives somewhere inside a web site's hierarchy, then add indexing for it with the mdimport -f command. Simply using a symbolic link to a mailing list archve folder in /private/var/mailman/archives/private doesn't work. I don't want to keep a separate copy of the mailing list archives just so that I can have one that's spotlight searchable.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I can browse to the iPhoto Library in the Open dialogues from other apps. For some apps (eg Safari, Word), I can see the iPhoto Library, but it is greyed out
That's not what I mean. You're browsing to the Library, I mean +browse the contents of the Library+...
For instance: Consider the Open... Dialogue
On the left there's a Media heading, the contents of your Library can be accessed there.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
Is your Library available there? And in other Media Broswers in Pages, iMovie etc?
