Spotlight won't find bookmarks. already checked other posts

Hello everyone. In short, spotlight won't find my bookmarks. Let me go through what i've tried.
made sure bookmarks was checked in spotlight options
reindexed spotlight
checked for the spotlight metadata file but there was none.
any other suggestions? thanks
brett

Ok somehow this morning all was good. Thanks anyways for the help. If someone in the future is looking for a solution and comes across this, listen up...
I was on the phone with apple when i realized it was working again, the guy said he would have recommended removing the spotlight plist file. I never tried it but that might be a fix.

  • Unkown device help - have already checked other posts

I am having the "unknown device" problem.
I have a nano, computer is running XP pro. The computer used to work properly with the nano, now it is showing as an unknown USB device.
THe nano and cable both work. When I hook them up to another computer, I have no problems.
The nano does not show up as a device in computer disc managment or "my computer".
I have tried checking the isbstor.inf file. It exists.
I have unistalled and installed the latest ipod software.
I have tried rebooting the computer with the nano plugged in - this freezes the boot process right at the beginning of the boot sequence (although surprisingly, that is the only time the nano says "do not disconnect", but this does no good, as I can not boot the computer). I have tried plugging it in later in the boot sequence, with the same result. If I wait to the commencement of the boot of XP, the computer boots, but I again have an unknown device.
I have tried putting the nano into disc mode, and then plugging and unplugging the nano - still unkown device.
I don't appear to have a drive letter conflict. I have 2 drives, one with a c drive only, the other partitioned d-g, and two dvd drives, G and H. (although I haven't gone to the step of changing all of the drive letters above C, as I am not sure if that will affect the opertaions of them). I have tried disabling the 2 dvd drives and replugging the ipod - no luck.
I have updated the nano on another computer with the latest updater. Still unknown device on the problem desktop.
I can not do a "retore" on this desktop, as the device does not show in the updater.
The only thing I have not done, is to uninstall itunes and reinstall, but I doubt that will help, as the computer is not recognizing the nano, other than as an unknown USB device. I can't see it in computer management/disc management.
Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steven

it's no problem. i have a reasonably wide definition of what counts as an ipod connection issue.
okay, i think i tracked down the relevant ASUS support pages:

but it might be worth checking in at the general ASUS support site just to see if there's any relevant troubleshooting info there:

(always a good idea to be cautious about these matters.)

  • TM: Spotlight Won't Find Deleted File

As a test, I created a file just before TM began an hourly backup. After the backup was completed, I deleted the file.
When I open finder and search for the file using spotlight, of course it doesn't find it. When i call up the TM display and click the arrows, it still doesn't find it. In fact, spotlight won't find the file in TM at all. But because I know the exact time and date of the backup that has that file, I can navigate to the exact directory and find it. The file is there, and it only exists in that one backup.
So TM is working, but this isn't exactly the most convenient if you've deleted a file a month ago, have no idea when it was backed up, and can't remember where it was located.
I've tried it with the TM drive both in and out of the spotlight privacy pane--doesn't seem to make any difference. Known issue?

Hmmm, it sounds like Spotlight's DB is corrupt or not functioning properly.
Might give a try with Spotless...

  • Spotlight won't find files in user folder

i have spoken to apple tech support on this and they continue to try to find a solution but.....
i have files that spotlight doesn't find. they are in my user folder. in fact, it won't find the folder (s) one is on my desktop, one in documents. (these are just the ones i've tested). when i take the folder and just put it on the hard drive (root level), spotlight finds it. also, apparently, it can be found when i put it in the user folder of another user. i would like to avoid reinstalling the system. any thoughts??

  • Spotlight won't find old (immigrated) files

    Hi all!
I just recognized that spotlight isn't finding files that were not created on the
actual Mac. I copied lots of folders like clients data etc. to my new Mac when I
switched from my last PPC G5 to the Mac Pro two weeks ago.
Spotlight now works like a charm with all the files created on the MP or some of
the old ones but 98% of my data were just completely ignored by spotlight.
I tried to solve it by reindexing spotlight with the privacy trick, the terminal
and by deleting the -v100 file. Nothing worked out. It's always the same: It just
won't find my old data. I hope you guys can help me out! I installed Easyfind to
exclude the fact that the files are invalid or have wrong permissions or anything
but this small programm is doing it's job without any problems (or indexing) and
a lot faster than spotlight would do.
...but still I want my spotlight to work properly. PLEASE HELP!

The old Apple FindFile used to do it all. Quickly, simply, and reliably. Then someone started taking the funny pills.
A while ago I used Spotless to totally disable Spotlight, remove its index, and then I used Onyx to remove that annoying magnifying glass from the menu bar.
Then I used OneKey to map my F9 key to open EasyFind.
I'm able to do productive work at last without wasting time

  • Finder/Spotlight won't find .m4v files that are located in iTunes Media

My startup disk is out of space, so I've decided that I'll compress my 100+ music videos (I know, I have a problem). Instead of going through every artist's folder(s) in iTunes Media, I decided I'd just put in .m4v into the search bar. Only 2 music videos showed up. To test if this was for all iTunes media (and whether it worked for purchased items or not), I searched by .m4a, .mp3, etc. Anything that I had purchased from iTunes wouldn't show up. I'm a lazy person, and I want to be able to find everything and move it quickly. Can anyone help me do this?
(Less "junk", more question)--> Anything I've purchased from iTunes won't show up by file type when I use any search function on my mac. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks!

  • Networking ... cant find PCs on network - Already read other posts, no clue

    Hi everyone!
I am having a problem with networking and my MacBook. I have created a location for my home, where i share a network with two laptops and two desktops, all of them with vista home premium except for one with ultimate. I have set them all up in the same Workgroup, some have dynamic IP and others static.
    What I can do:
    - I can connect to any of the computers on the network by typing smb://computerName/shareName/ and it loads fine.
    - I can see the MacBook computer from my Vista machines.
    What I can't do:
    - My MacBook doesn't find any computers when I open the "network" section in finder, neither do they show in the finder sidebar. The only way i can connect to a specific computer is via typing the name in the connect to server as described before.
    - I cant open my macbook shares from windows. Both my usernames and passwords are the same, but I can't access any shares on my macbook.
    - I can't detect any printers on the network with the macbook. I have a share printer on a vista machine that is used by the others with no problem, but mac doesn't find it
I would appreciate any insight on this since i often connect into other networks (office, firiends etc,) and can never see their computers (even changing my workgroup)
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

This sounds like a typical SMB issue on a network where no obvious master server exists.
I had similar problems with Linux, and it all stemmed from the poor auto-negotiation of which computer would be the master browser on the network. I ended up forcing one machine to become the master overall, and SMB browsing became far more robust.
As per a previous poster, this is done by altering the OS level in /etc/smb.conf. Man samba or smb.conf should point you in the right direction.
I'd recommend you fix your OSX machine to become the SMB master, saving all the negotiation and you'll soon find these machines appear in your list with no trouble at all.
Even better, I now run mDNS on all my computers and specifically advertise SMB as a service, along with the .device-info_ service, allowing me to assign a nice icon to each machine! its great when my linux mac mini actually shows up as a mac mini in finder

  • Mac can't see wireless network - have checked other posts but no  solution!

I have scanned many posts on this topic but have not seen my specific problem resolved, so I'm starting a new post. Here's all the facts and things I've checked.
    Hardware Details
    iMac 1.25 GHz G4
Airport Extreme card (shows up in system profiler)
    Linksys 802.11g router
    Network Details
    WPA Personal
Have never had a problem using this network. 2 PC's an 2 Macs regularly connect. Right now one PC and my wife's MacBook Pro are using the network.
The iMac was seeing the network yesterday - today it can't even see it!
Per the advice from many helpful posters, I have checked that mac addressing is disabled on the router.
I have checked that appletalk is active on the iMac
I have restarted the iMac several times after applying various changes.
This is a very perplexing problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi kmacwilliam,
I am having a similar issues with yours, my MBP and MB couldnt not stay connect to the dlink router recently. But the PC's been working fine all the time. The wireless would drop and could not see the network again while my neighbours' networks were still displaying. Even restarting the MBP and router wont see my wireless network.
You can try these things and see if it works for you, it's worked for me for time being. Please post back the outcomes:
    1. Delete any airport-related passwords in the "Keychain" so no airport passwords are stored
    2. Shut down the iMac
    3. Reset the PMU in your case for the G4 iMac, you may need to open your back case to reset it
    3. Turn on your iMac and you should see the network again
I am suspecting this might be software issue, hope this works for you.

  • Can't get video error (Checked other posts first)

I have been checking the previous posts for solutions for my iChat problems and all the solutions haven't worked for me. Here is my situation:
I can do audio chats with my iSight without a problem.
I am not running a postgres database.
I have done a clean wipe and install of Tiger and then the 10.4.2 update, no other software has been installed.
    My router is configured properly.
My firewire is off for my computers.
I can do a video chat in the network, but not outside (bonjour, not AIM, though).
My connection is a 3 meg cable connection.
I am doing the same thing (clean wipe and installs) on a PowerMac G5 1.8 GHz, and a PowerMac Dual G5 2.5. It fails on both. I also have an old iBook G3 700 that it works just great on, and can chat out of my network (this is how I know that my router works fine). Any ideas? This is just from a clean wipe and install, no external firewire disks or add in cards. Please let me know of any ideas, as it is frustrating to no end. Thanks.

    Hi Guava M'nia,
Welocome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
This sounds like the ports are open for iChat in the modem as the G3 can chat to Buddies outside your location.
This would lead me to ask how the ports are opened ?
If it is Port Forwarding is it pointing to the IP of the G3 ?
Not many modems and router will allow you to use the same ports twice in Port Forwarding to different computers. Sme that do - do not have enough space on the entry table to get the 46 ports entries required for two computers.
You may need to change to Port Triggering or UPnP if you modem supports these forms of opening the ports. (both these allow multiple computers to use the same ports).

  • Mavericks is too slow, I've checked other posts, please help.

I am trying to finish editing a movie in FCPX this weekend for a film festival that has asked for it.
But everything is Pentium 90 slow.  I don't care about all the other apps that have hiccups and pause to think when they were quite happy, I'll live with those (I'm sure Apple will eventually fix it, even Microsoft eventually released Windows 8.1).
But I am handcuffed by how debilitatingly slow fcpx has become.  Plenty of free disk space, App Nap turned off for fcpx and compressor.  These are not rendering delays (all files transcoded).
Please do not give me a lot of homework to do.  The only change (says the retired CTO who's heard that from users for 20 years) was Mavericks.
Either somebody has a theory about how to help me or they don't.
    If you don't, I can't fault you, I don't know either.
If you do, I would love to hear from you.  This documentary is about a man dying from cancer and we'd like him to see it at his home town film festival before he passes (seriously).
    Thanks, y'all.

Fixed it!  It was so easy.  All weekend, I just rebooted every three hours or so.  Save all work, close everything, reboot my iMac.
Simple fix, reminds me of Windows for Workgroups.
My humble I-don't-have-time-or-energy-to-investigate-it guess is that it may be related to a faulty garbage collection.  Why do I say that?  See above.

  • Spotlight not finding bookmarks

I just noticed that Spotlight is not finding bookmarks on either my Powerbook or my Powermac G4 - both running 10.4.8 with Security Update 2006-007.
I've reindexed both machines, run Disk Warrior, Onyx, etc. and still no luck.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    FIXED!!!
Basically, Bookmark queries via Spotlight are read from the ~\Library\Caches\Metadata\Safari folder (the .webbookmark files).
Noting that new bookmarks were recognised by Spotlight (kind:bookmark), I quite Safari, moved the bookmarks.plist file in ~Library\Safari to the Desktop, restarted Safari and imported bookmarks from the .plist file.
Voila! This forced Spotlight to rebuild the ...Metadata\Safari folder (which it wasn't doing so earlier) and all is back to normal!

  • Spotlight doesn't find html files

I'm a web developer. I have thousands of ".html" files, such as "india.html"
    Spotlight won't find them.
It does find "india.cfm" files so I'll assume the problem is the html extension.
If I Show All in Finder it does them ... in a Find window section called "Developer" ... which doesn't appear in Spotlight, or is a choice in Spotlight Preferences.
This used to work. I'm now using 10.9.5. I don't know at which update it stopped working ... I don't perform this often but when I do it's critical.
I've repaired permissions and reindexed the drive (twice, by adding and removing the drive from Spotlight index preferences).
    Thanks.

    A test...
Made a plain text file, saved to desktop, apple.html. Spotlight doesn't find it. Duplicated it. Change the name to apple.txt. Spotlight immediately finds it.
Spotlight is having a problem with html.
Checked the Spotlight RichText.mdimporter and it has:

  • HT2531 Spotlight won't open finder for certain file types

I had Evernote installed a year or so back and used it for a short while. Then I started using springpad and deleted Evernote from my Mac.
Ever since, old notes have shown in spotlight, but CMD+Click wouldn't reveal them in finder. I've re-installed Evernote to try and help the situtaion, but alas, the old notes are still indexed (not merged from wherever they're hiding as I'd hoped).
I've re-indexed the Mac, (exclude HDD from spotlight under system preferences and then re-indexed) but they've re-indexed again. So they must be actual files somewhere.
Example, I have an old note called 'expenses address'.
Finder won't find 'expenses address' but Spotlight does. CMD+ click opens evernote... but not the note.
The quickpreview from spotlight shows exenses address as p36.ennote (in the quick preview), but again, finder won't find that either (p36.ennote). I've used terminal to show all file types, but still no joy with either search.
I've dug around in the User>LIbrary>Application support, found the evernote folder, but it's not in there either.
I've also had a poke around HDD>Library>Application support, but evernote doesn't seem to save data there either.
I share my iTunes folder with another user on my Mac and my Apps are backed up from my Iphone and iPad, but the evernote app isn't one of them.
I'm at a loss with regards to where these msytery files could be.
    Any advice?

Not sure if this helps, but this is how a 're-indexed' file shows up in Spotlight, but finder won't locate it and CMD+click won't either.

Contact your carrier to make sure there's nothing wrong with your account.
Also, it may be worth going into Settings>General>Reset and choosing Reset Network Settings. You'll lose saved wifi passwords but you won't see any other changes. That may resolve the issue.

HDD is a Toshiba 1TB, partitioned into two 500GB partitions.

Yes, sharing a TM disk is a bad idea, and disks are cheap enough so that you don't need to.
    Now
Have you tried to repair the disk yet
