Spotlighting a person in a movie/video

I am making highlight videos for my local sports team (football). I need to place an arrow or small spotlight on the actual player being highlighted in each play. Is there a program that can do this? I have iMovie 09. Thanks!

I would use a circle picture, animated over your player. In photoshop, simply create a 50 x50 pixel transparent document. Draw a circle with line size set to 3 or 4 pixels with a transparent interior. Save you file in PNG (transparent interlaced) format.
Import in FCE, add it on Video track over your football clip. Set the scale to 100 or smaller (to fit your player) and start to set keyframes for position value to "spot" your player.
There are also some generators available for FCE to draw a such circle and animate his center position. Google final Cut free plugins.

How do you add personal movies/videos to iTunes

I have repeatedly tried to drag/drop my personal videos into itunes on my NEW iMac (mountain lion) with no success. They are .mov videos. It appears Apple is forcing you to purchase their products in order to get it into itunes to play on apple TV. I hope this is not the case.

You may want to try playing the video in QuickTime Player, to make sure it's compatible with iTunes.

How can I move videos to computer without syncing

Can anyone suggest how I can move video clips to my computer from the playbook which will not sync now that I have update the lastest software. They are too big to send in an email. When I tried to upload them to a youtube account, the file was rejected because the name looked like VD 000164.mp4. In edit mode in the video file I have the vast array of editting options: delete or cancel. I cannot change the name as it is uploading.. Any way to salvage this as a video camera?

Web sites that host .mov videos?

Since iMovie '08 won't support any format I throw at it other than .mov, I'm looking to find any web stie that provides downloadable .mov videos. I need to get a few clips of relatively general scenes, eg. fight scenes, dramatic expressions, etc. Thanks for the help.

Hey Nicolas, I'm running exactly the same system and having the same problem. I suspect as andyBall_uk suggests it is in fact a security issue with local files.
If I go into safari preferences, click on "security' tab, select "manage website settings", choose Quicktime from list on left, then toggle "Local documents" from "Allow" to" Run in Unsafe Mode", quicktime will now work in Safari when viewing webpages stored on a local drive. However this does come with a prompt warning "Plug-ins running in unsafe mode can access your personal documents and data". Maybe not an issue if you're just running your own local test webpages, but sounds fairly intrusive/unsafe??

ITunes 11 won't import .mov video files from external hard drive but will from internal.

I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.0.1. I can't import .mov video files stored on an external hard drive. I can however import .m4v files from the same external drive. Using either the add to library option or dragging files from the finder.
I can add .mov files from the internal though. Strange I know.
The reason behind this posting is that I'm using iFlicks to convert my TV and movies from my external drive for Apple TV and add all relevent meta data, keeping the files on the external drive and having iTunes link to them.
I would like to be able to simply create a general iTune compatiable file using iFlicks which only takes a minute or two per file to convert. I'm currently converting them to .m4v just for the sack of being able to import them into iTunes from an external drive takes 45 minutes per file.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on a fix to allow me to import .mov files from an external drive into iTunes without copying it to the iTune library file.

This might be worth a shot - basically seeing if Vista permissions could be the culprit.
Give yourself FULL control and ownership of the exHD, let's call it M:

Take control of the top level folder and ALL subfolders.
Try creating a new blank ITL file on M: by pressing *and holding* the shift key while itunes starts. See if you can add everything again.

Is there a way to change the thumbnails for movies/videos?

This may be more of a Leopard question, but I'm wondering if there's a way to change the thumbnail that OSX and Front Row display of movie files. I think this feature is awesome but would love to have more control over it so I can pick a frame from the video that relevant to me. Imagine Front Row's menu for movies with a bunch of thumbnails that are title screens or your favorite scenes from your movie collection (rather than a random thumbnail that may or may not even be identifiable to that movie).
I've already included this request to Apple in a suggestion I sent along including a few other Front Row requests/suggestions I had including movie/video playlists, album art support over streaming/shared libraries, and music that doesn't stop playing when you return to the main menu.

It appears that "saving" doesn't impact the quality, but wraps the file up in the .mov format (size and quality appear to stay the same). It worked ("saving" instead of using the save as a reference movie seems to fix the starting playback from the poster-frame issue). However, now a new issue has come up... I like to save the files to DVD as the original .avi so they will play on our Philips DVD players. However, being wrapped up in .mov means I have to have two versions of the file, and if my HDD ever dies or fills up I'll have to always correct the poster frame, and save another copy from the .avi original. Kind of frustrating... I wish Front Row/Quick Time would let you easily change the thumbnail and not have to change the format, etc.

Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.

To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
for example
DCIM
MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there.

Can no longer sync movie video playlist after update?

I recently performed the 3.0 update to my iPhone 3g with no apparent issues. However, I went to play a movie video last night and discovered that only my music videos had synced (all were previously on the iPhone with no problems). Checking the iPhone settings under video I noticed that the tab lists a section for movie rentals and TV shows but does not specifically call out movies that you own. Under tv shows is where I normally expect to select which video playlist to sync for which none were available (even though I have one with 3 movie videos in it). It looks like it handles tv show video playlists only which I have not tested.
This is different from before the update where I could sync any video playlist I wanted. The videos were all downloaded from iTunes so there should be no issues or questions about format and source. Am I missing something? Thanks.

after you connect your iPhone and go to the 'video' tab, if you scroll down, you should see your 'movies' section which should list the 'movie' files you have in the 'movies' section of iTunes. if you select the videos you want to sync, hit save/apply and sync, you should get the videos on your iPhone.
video playlists will only sync files in the 'tv shows' category, not files in the 'movies' category of iTunes. i'm not sure why they did it like this, but they did, and it highly annoys me. my work around is to make all of my 'movies' go into the 'tv shows' category, which i can then add to a playlist and have it synced. more work, but it works...

IPod-Video-80Gig No longer plays movies, videos, TV shows (older shows)

What gives, only 6 months ago the videos played just fine...then I begin having a host of problems (started with the death of the battery at the ripe old age of 8 months). This $400 video iPod had played the few movies and TV shows I purchased...and it will play the audio of them...but will no longer play the video portion. I've tried the resetting (holding the MENU plus CENTER buttons at same time). No go still. I haven't played the movies/videos in a while; but now I'm going on a roadtrip and wanted to take them with me to watch on the plane. So sad. Any help anyone can pass along would be rightly appreciated!

OMI...my daughter had told me she was "fiddling" with the settings and wouldn't you know, she changed the VIDEO SETTINGS "TV Out from Off to On." Word to people with kids...tell them to step away from the iPod.
