Spotty Wi-Fi Connectivity with iPhone 3G

I'm a new user so I haven't ruled out the possibility that I'm doing something wrong but...
I have noticed that in situations in which my iPhone has successfully switched over a known Wi-Fi connection (such as at home or work), there will be times that the iPhone reports that I have no Wi-Fi connectivity. This seems to happen completely at random, and can occur even when I am next to the wireless router. The odd thing that is that there is always another laptop PC that is successfully connected wirelessly, which rules out the possibility that the Wi-Fi is not working This is intermittent, and often will come back to working on its own, but it is irritating.
I have the latest iPhone OS (2.1). Is there something else that I am doing wrong? I know that I have setup the correct network SSIDs and network keys.
Another weird thing that I have noticed is that when it is connected wirelessly, I will not be able to see it on my wireless network. One of my programs, a Spreadsheet application, requires that I import XML files from my PC. I have only been able to do this once, because most of the time when I search for the iPhone from my PC, I get a "drive not mapped because there is no network" error message. Again, this happens in spite of the fact that the network is up, is actively in use, and there are wireless devices actively using the network.
Any ideas about this? Help would be most appreciated.

This is really becoming maddening.
My iPhone continues to see my WiFi network but I keep getting "Unable to join" errors.
I have combed through the technical support documents referenced above.
I updated my router's firmware to the latest version. It's a Belkin model in case that matters.
I have enabled MAC address filtering and put in the MAC for the iPhone into the router setup program.
I have verified that the router is NOT using WEP encryption. I have verified that it is using wireless b/g protocols.
I have verified that the iPhone has the correct network key.
I have reset the network settings on the iPhone - that worked for all of 3 minutes before it suddenly reverted back to Edge and could not find my WiFi network. And this too in spite of the fact that my iPhone is RIGHT NEXT TO THE WIRELESS ROUTER.
Other computers in the house can connect to the WiFi network without problem.
It was connecting without problem for the first few days and then suddenly stopped.
Apple's tech support documents want me to perform a time-consuming hard reset of the device as the ultimate diagnostic step. Strangely enough, that appears the be the recommended fix for a wide variety of iPhone problems. Trouble is, it takes > 2 hours to complete that process. I can't be out of touch for that long - my business depends on a working cell phone at all times.
Is there some other miracle solution that doesn't involve resetting the iPhone on an hourly basis whenever this occurs?

  • PC breaks down when connecting with iPhone

For about 2 weeks my PC breaks down whenever I try to connect with iPhone. A blue screen appears and it shuts down immediately. After restart the same happens again. Can anyone help me?

    Hi Diana,
Does your PC have software for a Logitech QuickCam/Webcam, Lexmark scanners, or a built-in media card reader?
If it does try uninstalling the software from Control Panel, then testing and downloading the latest software/drivers available, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502

when you change PC how to make connection with iphone and new PC

Yes, you can do it the same as any other database. The code would be similar.
I'd also suggest you not to use the JDBC ODBC bridge for connection. There are other drivers available for that.

  • Satellite Pro A200 failing to connect with iphone hotspot via wifi

Apologies if I get some of the technical jargon wrong but I pretty useless when it comes to IT issues.
I have a Satellite Pro A200 and had problems connecting to various wifi connections.
The computer would see the wifi connection and connect to it but i wasn't able to connect to the internet.
The office issue has now been sorted by our IT support guy (security settings on the new router we too complex for my PC or something like that) but he wasn't able to solve the problem of not being able to connect to my iphone to use the 'hotspot' feature via wifi.
Does anyone know a way of solving this or is it a simple fact of the laptop being too old and really needs updating?
Thanks for any assistance anyone is able to give.

This is not a question of notebook age
As far as I know not all mobile phone providers support this
You should firstly ask your mobile provider if you can use the tethering function.
If this would be supported my mobile provider, then you have to connect the iphone to the notebook firstly
For that youve got two options: you could use the BT connection (in such case check if notebook supports BT too) or via USB cable provided with the iPhone.
(PS: As far as I know tethering is support by iOS3.0 and higher)
After the iphone has been connected to the notebook you need to enable the tethering on iphone.
Under Settings -> Network you should see the option internet tethering this need to be enabled.
Now you should be able to see that in Network & sharing Center of the control panel.

  • TS3212 iTunes can't connect with iPhone because the pairing record is missing

I have been having a lot of trouble with iTunes on Windows XP. I have had to completely uninstall iTunes, QuickTime, iPod, Apple Mobile Support, Apple Application Support, etc. and reinstall iTunes several times just to get to this point: now when I connect my iPhone using USB, I get the error message:
'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "John L. Mohammed"  because the pairing record is missing.'
What is this about? What can I do about it?
It should be noted that the latest attempt to install iTunes does not seem to have installed QuickTime, though it does not complain about missing software.

Try disconnecting your phone from your computer, quit iTunes, connect you phone to your computer again, the re-launch iTunes.

  • Share Imac's wifi network connection with iphone

Now I have a problem that is contrary to all I have seen so far. My Imac is often with me in places where I can have wifi network if I declare my MAC address in advance. When I am there, I often want to have network on my Iphone as well, but cannot share that connection because wifi is already used for getting into the net. How can I do access the internet from my Iphone (example: skype or Viber calls from abroad to home) in such situations?

    Sorry for:
being so late (I had lost the pointer to this discussion due to a massive change in my machinery)
havig written iMac instead of MacbookPro. I was writing my post from my iMac at home...
However, I do know that every device has got a unique MAC address, and I do know the MAC address of my iPhone. My iPhone is connected to my home Wifi network, which allows access only to devices known by their MAC address.
My problem was that I only got ONE MAC address to declare, eventhough I had two devices. So, I could not directly connect my iPhone to that network, but I could connect my MacBookPro (because I needed the network to resume documents during meeting, and so on). I just wanted my iPhone being able to access the network, even if tethered to my MacBookPro (or, even better, without connecting it physically), but I was not able to do that. I can imagine that from my MacBook I could share the Internet connection via Bluetooth, and I tried that way, but there was no way to couple the iPhone on the Bluetooth connection to do anything significant. Also with the physical connection (cable), I did not see any way to share my network access on my MacBook.
I hope I was clear this time..

  • ITune not appear when connect with iphone

iTune not appear when iphone connect with my computer (window 7)

    Hello BrightGoh,
Generally for a new and unrelated question you should start a new thread.
Safari on the iPhone doesn't have the ability to download and save .exe files. The iPhone does not have the ability to store files as a storage disk.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
If you check the Safari section of the manual starting on page 52, you will notice that there is no mention of being able to save such files.

  • IMac losing connection with iPhone

When I connect my iPhone 3GS the phone syncs as normal but between 5 and 30 minutes after syncing the Mac 'forgets' the Phone, it vanishes from iTunes and the iPhone stops charging.
This has happened consistently over the last week or so. I am on latest OS versions of Phone and Mac, but the problem did not start immediately on upgrade.
The main problem is the stopping of charging since I leave my Phone connected overnight and now I get up in the morning and the Phone is out of power...

You're using the right port, have you tried a different port, different cable? One or both might be faulty. Do not use the keyboard port. Many iMacs have USB 1.0 (or 1.1) ports. This means that they only work with devices that supply their own power, not those that need power sent to them via USB 2.0.
The iPhone is a USB 2.0 device, so it needs to draw power from the USB port – something the USB 1.1 ports on the keyboard can’t offer.

  • Itunes does not open menu on connection with Iphone 5 windows 8

Upon connecting my iphone to my windows 8.1 (64bit) computer, Itunes does not open the Iphone interface.  How can I sync or back-up the iphone.
Itunes recognizes the Iphone on the main menu but the menu for the Iphone does not come up.  This is IOS 7.0.4.
    Mpls

Have you tried clicking on the phone in the device section. It may not automatically select the iPhone. From iTunes, you can select the phone. The menu looks a little different in the newer versions of iTunes. Control + B will bring up the menu bar, Control + S will bring up the sidebar for you to select the phone.

  • Slow Internet connection with IPhones using airport extreme

My Airport Extrem works fine with IPads and Mac Book but not with IPhones (very, very slow). Any advice?

Its Pretty simple if you need to change the network password on the wifi Just do a soft reset
To do this you need somethign small and skinny like a bobby pin then look at the back of the airport extreme for a tiny play button below that you stick the bobby pin in that for a full second.
Then go to your Pc go to aiport utility double-click your aiports name then go to the base station tab and you can change your password.
    Having worse problems still?
Then you need a hard restart to do a hard restart (like last time) take out something small and skinny (such as a bobby pin)  and look behind your airport for a tiny play button then right below that there should be a hole or a button use the bobby pin and stick it in the hole and leave it in there for 5.7 seconds then take it out and it should be rapidly blinking.
Then after it finishes blinking rapidly you need to set it up again like you did when you first got it.
