I m facing "Spreadsheet Extractor Big Block Allocs" error on essbase server while retrieving data through spreadsheet add in. Anybody has faced this problem and know How to resolve it?

I don't know whether the following information is useful to you or not.
Analytic Services writes two messages to the application log for each data retrieval. As shown below, the first message describes the total amount of time required for the retrieval.

If a dynamic calculator cache is used, a second message displays the number of blocks calculated within the data calculator cache (Dyn.Calc.Cache: [n]) and the number of blocks calculated in memory outside dynamic calculator cache (non-Dyn.Calc.Cache: [n]).
To determine if the dynamic calculator cache is being used effectively, review both of these messages and consider what your settings are in the essbase.cfg file. For example, if the message indicates that blocks were calculated outside as well as in a dynamic calculator cache, you may need to increase the DYNCALCCACHEMAXSIZE setting.

"*Spreadsheet Extractor internal error:Invalid input spreadsheet table*" when I want to upload some data to my planning application using excel add-in. I can lock the sheet but when I click the Send option the aforesaid error is coming.

Do you have any of the conditions:
1) Member names and aliases <--I just tried this against My Very Favorite Essbase Databas In The Whole Wide World, Sample.Basic and in 9.3.1, I can lock and send with member names and aliases selected. This doesn't look like a true issue.
2) I do like the comment about write access -- are you sure that your filters (you may be a Planning admin so this won't really apply) are set to allow a write?
If you search on The Other Board for your error string (hint, click on the Match button on the Search page) you will find other threads that suggest a member name/alias conflict. That may be worth looking at.
One last thought -- can you take a single cell on the worksheet and lock and send that to Essbase? If so, can you expand the send range one at a time until you find what breaks? This might, slowly, get you to your error point.

Regular vs Spreadsheet extractor

In the Application logs I am looking to parse lines that would indicate how long retrievals from our cubes take:
Regular Extractor Elapsed Time : [0] seconds
Spreadsheet Extractor Elapsed Time : [1.22] seconds
What I would like to know is. WHat is the difference between the spreadsheet and regular extractors. Looking at the logs I see that a user can have both entires almost next to each other. Is one a free-form extract, and the other a normal spreadsheet retrieve?

Carrier grade nat - static port block allocation.

Is it possible to configure nat (cgn) on ASR 1k to permit the same private address always get the same port block allocation from the same public address? With that You dont need nat logging.

How do I print a spreadsheet too big for A4 paper?

My spreadsheet it a little too big to print on normal A4 paper, and the 'Inspector' will not allow me to change the 'Content Scale' of the document before printing. Any suggestions?

Use the content scale slider at the bottom of the document.

I know, normaly your VI should not be bigger as the window screnn.
Anyway, you can use the "Print VI documentation" as explain in the following link and and choose the option "Scale block diagram to fit"

An error [1130203] occured in Spreadsheet Extractor

Hello everyone. We have a BSO empty, shell db that is used for reporting. It has multiple partitions to two other ASO db's. A fairly simple Excel Add-in retrieve with ~116 rows and ~186 columns has begun giving users this error (same retrieve used for months). Our Essbase server has 16 GB of RAM. Currently the BSO db cache settings are as follows:
Cache memory locking: unchecked
Index Cache setting (KB): 10000
Data File Cache setting (KB): 32768
Data Cache setting (KB): 250000
Index Page Setting (KB): 8
We just increased the Data Cache setting from 200000 to 250000 to see if that would help, but it did not. Should we just continue bumping that up since we have so much RAM?
Any ideas?

Hi Steve,
I suppose you are using Windows, this problem indicates mainly settings of:
Datacache and Datacache file
As you have already tried with increased size of datacache settings now try two options;
Option 1: Increase Datacache and decrease Datacache file(keep 200000) size both and see the spreadsheet extract
Option 2: Decrease Datacache and datacache file settings both (from your current settings).

Why is there such a big block of space being taken up by backups on my computer's hard drive?

I'm about to leave for college, and I've gotten pretty much everything set up on my 13 inch MBP. I recently opened 'About This Mac' and went to storage to view how my storage was being used. I noticed the wierdest thing; that is, that I have a supposed 73 GB of 'Backups' on my MBP. I don't recall ever backing anything up, and I went through and deleted all mobile backups. I've also noticed that I have actually 27 GB of music and it says I only have 4 GB, so I know there are other faults too. I'm just hoping that the 'Backups' being displayed are really backups, and that maybe I can delete them and get more space on my MBP. If anyone knows how I could find these 'Backups' please let me know.

for any others having this problem, it's referring to local snapshots.
to disable local snapshots enter this command in the terminal:
sudo tmutil disablelocal
then turn off time machine and restart your computer. You will find that all local snapshots have been deleted.

Hi,
One problem is that I can not identify the script because it was not created by me, as I understand this calc is implicit in planning, only runs when you select the option "mass allocate".
The published extract was obtained from the log of the application in which the calculation is running, this was extracted from essbase directory that hosts the application.

Substitution variable in Dynamic Calc

Hi,
We are using Essbase 9.3.0 on Windows and are seeing this behavior in our BSO cubes.
When we use a substitution variable in a Scenario member with Dynamic Calc (not store) setting, after the first retrieve, if we change the value of the substitution variable, the subsequent retrieves do not generate updated results.
I suspect that the value is cached in the Dynamic Calculator Cache, and for some reason does not track changes in Substitution Variables to know that the value must be re-calculated. Here is what I see in the Application log -

This says that 4 blocks were used from the Dynamic Calc Cache, and none from outside it. Does this mean that existing blocks were read and not re-populated?
If I make a change to the formula, wherein I hard code the value of the sub var and perform the retrieve, then the value is updated. Subsequent retrieves, after restoring the formula still returns the updated results.
My question is, is this expected behavior? Or am I doing something /reading something wrong?

when a subst variable value is changed... to use the value in member formula or calc script, the concerned application has to be restarted...

Essbase trigger error : Application shuts down

I am implementing a trigger in Essbase BSO application. Trigger is as below

This is my VI, i use a "simulate signal" to generate my sine signal. I used other waveform generators but i keep having the same prob. When i use digital i/o or analog dc out, i have no probs.

and i have checked the log file.
It reads as follows
Unknown calculation type [0] during the dynamic calculation. Only default agg/formula/time balance operations are handled.
An error [1012703] occurred in Spreadsheet Extractor.

There is an error in a formula(s), therefore, no calculations will work. The problem is that when you have the outline open in Edit mode and you try to 'Validate', it does not identify any of these errors, nor does it write it to a log. However, you can go one by one and validate each formula. So any time you delete a member or modify a member name, be sure that this member is not included in any formula.

I've below queries in respect to Storage for a BSO member calculations,
first consider 3 two dimensions,

Here
1) For Measure 'D', I want data for Measure A to be aggregated only for P11 and P12 products,
Calculation based on Single Dimension members.
2) Measure 'E', I want data to refer to only particular Combinations sum like D = (B -> P13 --> C12) + (B -> P11 -> C11)

I have several KPIs and different rules needs to be implement across dimensions, so using Fix is not so easy.
For now I'm using member formulas with dynamic cacls.
As data is increasing then I'm facing the following challenge
dynamic calc processor cannot allocate more than [100] blocks from the heap. Please increase CalcLockBlock setting and then retry
I've increased the CalcLockBlock to 500, restarted Essbase service and tried but still facing the same problem. Hence I made calc members to Stored Type
What I want to know is
1) Any suggestion for calcs, as the levels and dimensions are different for several measures
2) What is the difference for Calculation process and result for Dynamic Calc over Stored across dimensions.

I was just giving an example, to increase the complexity here, I've some 5 other dimensions as well and hence you can understand it is not just 2 blocks.
I've few Dynamic Cal members with outline formulae which refer to different block combinations.
When I pull data from Add-in, I get Essbase Error

I've tried to resolve this by
1) Adding 'CALCLOCKBLOCK HIGH 500' in essbase.cfg ( as I did not see CALCLOCKBLOCK in the config file)
2) Increased my Datafile cache to 505416KB as per existing Blocks & Block size
Block Size is 1792 B, Existing Blocks 577619
3) Restarted Essbase service and application
Guys, Am I following the correct steps ? How can I make this to work.
